Mrs. Gladys Marie Mathes, 65, of Youngstown, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 28, 2000. She was retired from Margaret Fashions after 16 years of service. Mrs. Mathes is survived by her husband, Ed Mathes; four sons: Michael Mathes, Don Mathes, Randy Mathes and Galen Mathes, all of Youngstown; sister, Geniva Hopkins of Ashville, N.C.; brother, Horace Owenby of Ashville, N.C. Visitation will be held this afternoon from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Panama City. Mrs. Mathes will be laid to rest in Nesbitt Chapel U.M.C., Fairview, N.C. Penland and Son Funeral Home in North Carolina, will be in charge of arrangements.

CHARLOTTE HELEN ROBERTS
Mrs. Charlotte Helen Roberts, 50, of Pensacola, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, the beloved daughter of Helen Kipp of Mexico Beach. Ms. Roberts was born in Tallahassee, Fla., and was a longtime resident of Ithaca, N.Y. She recently moved to Pensacola. Ms. Roberts received her Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University and her Master's Degree from the University of Kansas. She was a publication specialist for Cornell University. She is survived by her sons: Patrick Kiefer of San Francisco, Calif., Greg Kiefer of Pensacola, Joey Kiefer of Pensacola; mother, Helen Kipp of Mexico Beach, Fla.; sisters: Patricia Maroney of Chapel Hill, N.C., Robin Rudicell of Pensacola, Judy Roberts-Kidd of Amherst Island, Ontario. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today, July 2, at their home, 4300 Whiteleaf Circle, Pensacola. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 2001 North Palafox St., Pensacola, Fla. 32501 or the American Cancer Society, 701 East Cervantes St., Pensacola, Fla. 32501.

ERIN ALAN "PEANUT" SHUFF
Erin Alan "Peanut" Shuff, 4, of 12324 Clear Creek Road, Youngstown, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000. He has lived in the area all of his life. Erin was "all boy." He liked tools, enjoyed swimming in Econfina Creek, and loved his father. Erin is survived by his father, Jeffrey Shuff of Youngstown; brothers, Matthew Shuff of Sneads, and Thomas Shuff of Callaway; a sister, Melanie Michelle Pickett of Perry; paternal grandfather, Carl Shuff of Callaway; maternal grandmother, Betty Joyce Hamm of Panama City; paternal great-grandmother, Verna Booth of Huntington, W.Va.; great-grandmother, Ina Greever of Sarasota; aunts, Brenda White of Panama City and Terry Davis of Bayou George; and uncles, Robert Toole of Panama City, John Shuff of Lynn Haven and David Toole of Pensacola. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Mitchell DeLoof; and his paternal grandmother, Lola Shuff. Erin passed away with his mother in an accident. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 3, 2000, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Price officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, July 3, 2000, from 9 until 10 a.m., an hour prior to service time.

Mrs. Vera Christine "Ninny" Burge, 84, of 216 Seventh St., Port St. Joe, Fla., passed away Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Sun Bridge Nursing Home. Born in Dodge County, Ga., September 12, 1915, she moved to the Port St. Joe area in 1943. She was a homemaker, member of the Rebeka's, active in the Boy and Girl Scouts and a member of the Long Ave. Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Buck Burge. She is survived by her son, Rudy Burge and wife Karen of Panama City; daughter, Linda Skipper of Baxley, Ga.; brother, Clyde Sanford and wife Alma of Mexico Beach; five grandchildren, Lisa Bradley and husband Adam of Jacksonville, Fla., Stephanie Badgent and husband Ken of Hancock, Md., Anna Budworth and husband Bill of Dubois, Pa., Mollie Griffin and husband Lynn of Port St. Joe, Jamie Gibbend of Panama City; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 5, at 10 a.m. EDT in the Long Ave. Baptist Church with the Rev. John Adkins officiating. Internment will follow at Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Blountstown, Fla. Sarah Beth Eberbaugh, age 51, beloved sister, aunt and friend, passed away unexpectedly in Panama City Beach, June 21, 2000. She was born Jan. 31, 1949, in Charleston, West Va. Survived by Margie, Michael, Robbie, and Jeffrey. She attended Gulf Coast Community College. Sarah worked at Matrix/A&T as technical writer and proofreader. Memorial services are being held at Richard Seltzer-New Thomas Drive Park at beachside, 7 p.m., July 5. Shoes optional.

EDWARD JOSEPH JIRU
Edward Joseph Jiru Jr.(Lt. Co. Ret.) formerly of Bay Point, passed away peacefully July 1, 2000, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a 33-year veteran of the USAF and served as a pilot in World War II, Korea and Vietnam earning 13 distinguished medals. His non-wartime assignments included Japan, Okinawa, Berlin, San Antonio, Sacramento and Norfolk. After retiring in 1974 he and his wife built their dream home in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. After four years they became full-time RV'ers traveling throughout the USA, Canada and Europe before settling in Yerington, Nev., After his beloved wife of 50 years, Norene, passed away, he moved to Panama City, where he was a member of the MGA at Bay Point. In 1998 he located to Air Force Village I in San Antonio, Texas. Ed was born in Madison, Wis., Jan 14, 1923. He is survived by two sisters, JoAnn Zinke of Fort Worth, Texas and Genevieve Buchanan of Virginia Beach, Va.; four children, Mike Jiru (Col. USAF Ret.) and wife Kay of San Antonio, Carol Hoehn and husband Barry of Panama City, Edward Jiru (SGMGT USA Ret.) and wife Susie of Livingston, Texas, and Paula Jiru and husband Rich of South Lake Tahoe; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Respecting his request for no services, he will be laid to rest beside his wife in South Lake Tahoe.

ROBERT M. MOORE
Judge Robert M. Moore of Port St. Joe, Fla., died as the result of an automoblie accident on Thursday, June 29, 2000, in Franklin County, Fla. Judge Moore was born in Greenville, N.C. on May 21, 1943. He was reared by his maternal grandparents, Fred and Lena Denton Broadwell. In 1967 he graduated from the University of Florida with a Juris Doctorate Degree. After graduating, Judge Moore and his family moved to Gulf County, where he began his life's work. He first worked for Attorney David Carl Gaskin in Wewahitchka and later moved to Port St. Joe as an associate for Attorney Cecil G. Costin Jr. In 1970 (the year of strike), Judge Moore began his own law practice, served as county attorney and public defender for Gulf County. He served Gulf County in these capacities for over 30 years. In 1995 he was seated as Gulf County's eigth county court judge and served as judge until his death. He was the first attorney ever to be elected judge in Gulf County. Professionally Judge Moore was involved in the Florida Bar Association, American Bar Association, Association of Trail Lawyers, American Judicature Society, past president of the 14th Judicial Circuit Bar Association, arbitrator on the panel for the American Arbitration Association and a leading member of the Juvenille Justice Council. He established the Gaurdian Ad Litem program in Gulf County. Bob's community activities included the Port St. Joe Jaycee's, Lion's Club, Chamber of Commerce president for both Port St. Joe and Gulf County, President of Gulf County Senior Citizens Association, director of Gulf County Association for Retarded Citizens, chairman of March of Dimes, Jail for Bail volunteer for the American Cancer Society and a Florida's Sheriff's Ranches builder. He was also a member of the Gulf Coast Community College Foundation. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Port St. Joe, where he served as the Sunday school superintendent. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Moore; five children, Martha Goodwill and husband Richard, Marcy Crosby and husband Todd, Michael Moore and fiance'e Edward Long and Matthew Moore; two stepchildren, Alan Sisk and wife Gina and fiance'e Charlie Sullivan; two brothers, Tull Moore and Victor Moore; 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today, July 4, 2000, at 11 a.m. EDT in the First Baptist Church of Port St. Joe with Dr. Gary Smith offiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hills Cemetary. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Gene Abrams, Larry Bateman, Billy Carr, Greg Johnson, Al Scheffer, Fred Witten, Bill Wood and Kenny Wood.

Eleanor G. Floyd, 80, of Panama City, Fla., went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2000, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. Survivors include her husband, William F. Floyd Jr.; son, William R. and wife Marge Floyd of Panama City; daughter, Ruth E. and husband William Wylie of Kissimmee, Fla.; sister, Mary Rickert of Panama City, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel at Southerland Funeral Home, today at 10 a.m. with Pastor Larry Curtis and Pastor Larry DeMoss officiating.

CATHY HAGGERTY
Mrs. Cathy B. Haggerty, 38, of Deep Bayou Dr., Panama City, passed away Friday, June 30, 2000, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. She resided in Panama City since 1975. She graduated from the nursing program at Gulf Coast Community College and she worked as an R.N. at Gulf Coast Hospital and Bay Medical Center for the past 18 years. The past 11 years she has been at Gulf Coast Hospital's Emergency Room. Funeral services will be conducted today, July 3, 2000, at 4:30 p.m. in the Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Marty Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the Lynn Haven Cemetery. The following men will serve as pallbearers, Sherman Retherford, Skip Mock, Roger Jones, Scott Miller, Alan Richie and Jim Barnett. Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to North Star Church at 1510 Virginia Ave., Lynn Haven FL 32444.

DAVID LEWIS EDWARDS
David Lewis Edwards, 42, of 1300 Balboa Avenue, Panama City, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a heating and air conditioner contractor. He had been a resident of Panama City since 1968 and was a 1976 graduate of Bay High School. He was past president of the Howard Parker Little League. He is survived by his wife, Terri Edwards; daughter, Elizabeth Lynn Edwards; son, John-Michael Edwards; mother, Ann Dauphin and her husband, Paul; father, Delano R. Edwards and his wife, Charlene; two brothers, Michael Edwards, Chip Dauphin; two sisters, Kristi Starling, Kellie Edwards; two nieces, Samantha Edwards, Hunter Starling; four nephews, Dustin Edwards, Aulden Burnes, Derek Rajala and Davin Rajala. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Hankins officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Central Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross Disaster Services in memory of David Edwards.
