Services for George C. Avery, 99, will be held this morning, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2005, at 11 a.m., in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah A. Tucker, age 72, of Marianna died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 18, 2005 in the Bay Medical Center of Panama City after an extended illness.
She retired as office manager from the F.W. Woolworth Corporation after 20 years of faithful services and had made Marianna her home for the past 30 years. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

She enjoyed baseball and college football and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Auburn Tigers.

Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Tucker, in 1998.

She is survived by her loving family of seven children; Bill Tucker Jr. and wife Denise of Wetumpka, Ala., Cathy Dawson of Wetumpka, George Tucker and wife Sharon of Bascom, David Tucker and wife Lorraine of Wetumpka, Steve Tucker and wife Kim of Holtville, Ala., Paul Tucker and wife Amber of Marianna, Cara Mount and husband, Marcus also of Marianna; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many good friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tucker will be held Friday, Oct. 21, 2005 at 11 a.m. graveside in the Riverside Cemetery of Marianna with Pastor Steve Canada officiating and Markham Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Markham Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made online at www.alz.org or to the Alzhiemer's Association 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601.

Markham Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.

Services for Mr. Donnie W. Rhodes, 52, of Cottondale will be held today, Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastors Tim Sanders and Henry Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the First Assembly of God Church Cemetery.

Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Maple Pyles McKinney, age 92, of Marianna, Fla. died Oct. 14, 2005 on the Courtyard Rehabilitation Center.

She was a native of Marianna, a member of the Springfield A.M.E. Church, and the Independent Lodge No. 1.

Survivors include 3 granddaughters: Ola Jean Coleman and Evelyn Pyles of Marianna, and Sylvia Burrow of Richardson, Texas ; 2 grandsons: Eddie Pyles of Marianna and James Robinson of Valorica, Fla.; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Roosevelt Long of Jacksonville, Fla., Hercules Pyles of Tallahassee; and 1 sister, Gussie Lee Hall, of Clearwater. She also reared Dr. Joe Gay, Md. of Marianna from age 4-16.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Springfield A.M.E. Church with Rev. Charles Flowers, and Prophet Billy White officiating. Interment will follow in the Orange Hill Cemetery in Marianna. Vann Funeral Home is in charge.

The body will lie at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

The family will receive friends, Friday, Oct. 21, from 5-6 p.m. at Vann Funeral Home.

Shirley Sarah Turner Oswald, 90, of Malone died Monday, Oct. 18, 2005 in Marianna.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 at the First Baptist Church in Malone. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Dolly Mae Cross, 69, of Kynesville died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City.

She was a native of Mt. Pluski, Ill., served in the U S Navy as a military nurse, and most recently was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband Joseph L. Cross of Kynesville; one daughter, Maileiene Burdick of Ft. Myers; two grandchildren, Lester Ray Burdick & Kimberly Marie Burdick.

Memorial services will be announced later by James & Sikes Funeral home Maddox Chapel of Marianna.

Wilbur Wayne Morris, 88, of Kynesville, died Sunday, Oct. 16 in Marianna.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, served in the U.S. Navy, and was the owner operator of W.W. Morris Jewelers where he was a jeweler and a watchmaker. He was a member of the Kynesville Methodist Church for more than 55 years, member of the Shaddai Shrine Temple, a mason and the American Legion Post #100 and Jackson County Conservation Club of Marianna.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Morris of Marianna and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. CDT, Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Maddox Chapel with Revs. Bill Wheeler and Robert Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 5-7 p.m. at Maddox Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shaddai Shrine Temple, PO Box 16115, Panama City, Fla. 32406.

Ronald Eudon "Don" Grant Sr., 76, of Marianna died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 in Tallahassee.

He was a native of Marianna lived most of his life in Jackson County. He was retired from the U S Air Force as a Master Sargent after 21 years of service. He worked for several years with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Grant was a member of the Marvin Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn O. Grant of Marianna; his son, Ronald Eudon Grant, Jr., and wife Elena of Marianna; his daughters Carole Grant Bevis & Donna Grant Lodge both of Tallahassee; 3 sisters, Ruth Owens of Marianna, Elaine Alexander of Raleigh, N.C., Annette Kmetz of Miami; 5 grandchildren, Hinson Bevis, Jessica Lodge, Sidney Bevis, Trip Grant & Laura Grant.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 at Marvin Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Oct. 18 from 6-8 p.m. CDT, at the Church, Marvin Chapel Freewill Baptist located on Hope School Drive in Marianna.

Donnie W. Rhodes, 52, of Cottondale, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2005 in Jackson Hospital.

He was a resident of this area since 1969. Baptist by faith, he loved to go to church, sings and movies, and he enjoyed gardening.

He loved his family dearly and served our country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by his parents, Donald J. and Pauline Rhodes of Cottondale; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be held Thursday, October 20, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastors Tim Sanders and Henry Matthews officiating.

Burial will follow in the Assembly of God Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening, Wednesday, October 19, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Shirley Sarah Turner Oswald, 90, of Malone, died Monday, October 18, 2005 in Marianna.

Mrs. Oswald was born in Daleville, Alabama on June 13, 1915 to Allen D. and Lura B. Turner.

At an early age, she moved with her family to Greenwood, where she lived until her marriage in November of 1948 to Virgil D. Oswald of Malone.

She resided in Malone for the remainder of her life.

She and her husband have two children, her daughter, LuAnne Oswald O'Reilly and husband John M. O'Reilly Jr. of Ft. Walton, and her son, Virgil D. Oswald, Jr. and wife Mary Lynn of Marianna.

She has four grandchildren, Meghan and John O'Reilly III, Sarah Hunt and Daniel Oswald.

A graduate of Florida State University, Mrs. Oswald served as a teacher in Jackson & Gadsden counties until her retirement in 1975.

She was a Presbyterian by faith but served in the First Baptist Church of Malone for her entire married life where she taught Sunday School classes and served on various committees.

During part of her early retirement, she volunteered as coach for students on various subjects who needed her help.

One of the highlights of her teaching years, as reported by her students, was her reading to them from good works of literature, which broadened their scope of education.

Teaching students in reading and mathematics was her constant aim, as well as the other subjects.

She was a Christian, and when the state and government approved, she included a daily Bible story.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Malone with Revs. Ottis Mann, Ronnie Wright & Don Wilson officiating.

Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel in Marianna.
