ALLEN 'BIG AL' VAUGHN
M. Allen "Big Al" Vaughn, 80, of Panama City Beach, Fla., went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, July 27, 2001, at his home. Born in Lewisburg, Miss., he moved here in June 1969, from Birmingham, Ala. He retired from Tommy Thomas Chevrolet where he worked as an automobile salesman for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Vaughn was also a member of the Optimist Club, served on the Panama City Beach Zoning Board, was the former vice president of the Green Valley Country Club of Birmingham, Ala., was the former chairman of the Rescue Mission Board and was a deacon with the St. Andrew's Kiwanis Club. One son, Joseph Allen Vaughn, four brothers and three sisters precede him in death. Mr. Vaughn is survived by his wife, Margaret Bowen Vaughn; one daughter, Judy Vaughn McCants and husband, Mike, all of Panama City Beach; one son, Allen Vaughn Jr. and wife, Susan of Acworth, Ga.; two sisters, Aline Mathis of Ashland, Miss., and Pauline McQueen of Collierville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Margaret Shamblin and husband, Paul of Panama City and Michael "Bubba" McCants Jr. and wife, Mandi of Lynn Haven. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 30, at 10 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Panama City. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers: Allen Vaughn Jr., Mike McCants, Michael "Bubba" McCants Jr., Paul Shamblin, Robert Stillwell, Ryan Stillwell, Rob Stillwell, Jerry Vaughn and Tom Dellatore. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Vaughn.

DOROTHY ELLINE BEARD
Mrs. Dorothy Elline Beard, age 59, of 1025 N. Star Ave., Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her home. Mrs. Beard was a life long resident of Bay County, a member of the Assembly of God faith and enjoyed camping, fishing and the outdoors. Mrs. Beard is survived by her husband, John D. Beard of Panama City, Fla., two sons, John D. Beard Jr. of Bear Creek, and Daniel Lee Beard of Kissimmee, Fla.; and mother, Dorothy Riley of Panama City, Fla. Funeral services will held 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at the Bear Creek Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Dewey Myers and the Rev. James Railey officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2001. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Oscar Randall, Larry Riley, Harry Cobb, Mike Cobb, Ronald Jackson, Gerome Hood, Glen Hood, Joey Moles & Wayne Beach.

EDWARD BOYETT
Mr. Edward Boyett, 75, of Panama City, Fla., passed away on Friday, July 27, 2001, in a local health care facility. Born in Goose County, Ala., he moved here 70 years ago from Alabama. He worked for Civil Service as a locksmith at Tyndall AFB, was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. His wife, Jewel Boyett, whom he had been married to for 51 years and passed away in May of this year, preceded him in death, as well as a daughter and son. Mr. Boyett is survived by one daughter, Norma Jean Mount; one brother, John Boyett and wife, Gwen all of Panama City, Fla.; three sisters, Shirley of California, Bert of Fla., and Fannie of Mo.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at 9 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Everage officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

ARTHUR Z. COX
Mr. Arthur Z. Cox, 79, of Panama City, FL, died Thursday, July 26, 2001 in Florence, SC. Born in Florence, SC, he moved here in 1993 from Defuniak Springs, FL. He was a retired construction worker and was Baptist by faith. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy. His wife, Harriett Mosier Cox, precedes him in death. Mr. Cox is survived by three sons, Butch Cox and wife Shirley of Panama City, FL, Donald Cox and wife Lynda of South Dakota, Gene Cox and wife Karen of Montgomery, AL; two daughters, Grace Smith and husband Steve of Timmensville, SC and Billie Jean Hudson of Florence, SC; one step-brother, Clenny Alexander of New Zion, SC; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 30, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Steve Southerland, II and Mr. Steve Sumner officiating. Interment will follow in Bayou George Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

MARILYN R. FAISON
Marilyn R. Faison, 64, of Richmond, Va., and Lynn Haven, Fla., died July 5, and was buried July 9 in Richmond, Va. She is survived by her husband, Frank A. Faison; her children, Larry, David, Beth and Trish; four grandchildren, Jimmy, William, Stephanie and Kristina; and an aunt, June Dunbar. Mrs. Faison was a volunteer at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and a member of First Unitarian Church on Blanton Ave., Richmond, Va. Interment in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Mr.William L. Nealon, Sr., age 69, of Lynn Haven, Fla., born in Albany, N.Y., passed away Friday, July 27, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of Bay County for the past 7 years, coming here from Upper Marlboro, Md. Mr. Nealon was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church, the Panama Country Club, served his country for 20 years with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam era and he loved golf and gardening. Mr. Nealon is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Nealon of Lynn Haven, Fla.; two sons, William L. Nealon Jr. and wife, Lisa of Coral Springs, Fla., Donald G. Nealon and wife, Elizabeth of Longview, Texas; two daughters, Elaine M. Nealon of Charlotte, N.C., and Patty O'Reilly of Simpsonville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Mary Alice Scott of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; three brothers, John Nealon of Vero Beach, Fla., Lawrence Nealon of Clifton Park, N.Y. and James Nealon of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Father Peter Zalewski officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Eglin Air Force Base Honor Guard. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Jim Caldwell, Bill Porter, Dick Waddey, Len Melish, Guy Jencks, Bob Mitchell and Ted Rybincki. The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July, 30, 2001, with a rosary at 7:30PM.

GEORGE R. WEIKEL
George R. Weikel, age 87, formerly of Lynn Haven, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2001, at Willow Valley Manor Retirement Home in Lancaster, Penn. Mr. Weikel was a member of the Panama City Country Club and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Idell Weikel. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Weikel of Lancaster; daughters, Barbara Prentiss and husband, Hank, Sue Krauss and husband, Walter of Panama City Beach; son, William Weikel and wife, Carol of Lilburn, Ga.; two stepchildren; grandchildren, Pamela Prentiss Morrill and husband, Doug of Littleton, Colo., Patricia Prentiss Osborn and husband, Wes of Fisherville, Tenn., Walter Krauss of Mobile, Ala., Brian Krauss and wife, Nancy of Naperville, Ill., Rachel Weikel of Lilburn, Jeremy Weikel of Sequoia National Park, Calif., three step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Willow Valley Manor in Lancaster, Penn., on Saturday, August 18, 2 p.m.

WILLIAM MILTON CHAFIN
Mr. William Milton Chafin, 85 of Port St. Joe, went to be with the Lord and his loved ones, Saturday, July 28, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Kinard, Fla., he moved to Port St. Joe in 1938 from Blounstown. Milton was the superintendent in charge of the paper machine for the St. Joe Paper Co. and a member of the First Baptist Church of Port St. Joe. Mr. Chafin served as a deacon and a youth teacher in his church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Port St. Joe and was the president of the local Paper Makers Union in the 1950s. Mr. Chafin was an original member of the Football Booster Association and was instrumental in the stadium construction. He was an avid golfer prior to his illness. Mr. Chafin is preceded in death by his parents William and Bertha Chafin; two brothers, Carl and Harold Chafin; brother-in-law, B.J. Bateman; and his wife, Frances Chafin who passed away in 1993. He is survived by his devoted wife of seven years, Rena W. Chafin of Port St. Joe; two sons, William Chafin Jr. and wife, Sandra of Port St. Joe, Tommy Murphy of Durant, Okla.; three daughters, Marietta Briker and husband, Bill of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Marsha Sanders and Pat Cannedy both of Mobile, Ala.; one brother, W.T. Chafin and wife, Eve of Clearwater, Fla.; one sister, Louise Bateman of Blounstown, Fla.; "special family" Frank McFarland and wife, Peggy of Port St. Joe; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Chafin will be conducted on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. EDT at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Vickory and the Rev. Bill Bricker officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers, Ed McFarland, John Presnell, Harry Lee Smith, John Rich, Bill Rich and Charles Cloud. Honorary will be the Sr. Adult Sunday school class. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 11:30 to 1:30 at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Mr. Chafin.

JOHN CATHA
Mr. John Catha, 35, of Port St. Joe, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He worked as an electrician and for the past 20 years was a resident of Panama City and Port St. Joe. Survivors include his mother, Donna Catha of Port St. Joe; his father, Charles Catha of DeRidder, LA; two children, John Aaron Catha and Alyssa Lee Catha, both of Port St. Joe; Ernest Thursbay, William Thursbay, Charles Thursbay, Kim Tharpe, all of Port St. Joe, and his great-grandmother, Ernestine Thursbay of Panama City.
