Mrs. Cassie Jenell Carter, age 73, of Panama City, Fla., passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001 at St. Andrew Health and Rehab. She has been a resident of the area for six years, coming here from Alford, Fla., and was Baptist by faith. Mrs. Carter enjoyed china painting, line dancing, and fishing. She also was a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, Gleen Carter of Panama City, Fla.; a son, Truman Beggs and his wife Diane of Panama City, Fla.; a grandson, Truman "Truby" Beggs of Panama City, Fla.; and a granddaughter: Stacey Lane Knowles of Panama City, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack D. Mayo and Cassie Gay Mayo and a daughter, Penny Carter Knowles. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Sept. 21, 2001 from 6 until 8 p.m. The family will be staying at 4113 Pipeline Road. Panama City, Fla.

MYRTLE L. KIRKLAND
Mrs. Myrtle L. Kirkland, age 78, of Hardaway Community, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001. She was a long-time resident of Panama City and had lived in Gadsden County for 10 years. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church. Survivors include two sons, Raleigh Cross of Tallahassee and Larry Cross of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters, Rebecca "Becky" (Al) Vealey of Hardaway; one brother, the Rev. Albert Vickers of Marrietta, Ga.; three sisters: Lottiee Mae Davis of Panama City, Alice Baker of Panama City; and Earline Vickers of Panama City; one grandchild, Andrew Vealy of Quincy. Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m., in Faith Heritage Church in Quincy. Burial will follow in Callaway Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. in Callaway. Family will receive friends after service at the church. Memorial contributions to Faith Heritage Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1476, Quincy, Fla. 32353-1476.

EMANUEL 'BUD' MACK
Mr. Emanuel "Bud" Mack, 68, of 1717 Louisiana Ave. died Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Bay Medical Center. He was a native of Jackson County, Fla., but had been a resident of Panama City for many years. He met and married Susie L. Reed. To this union five chidren were born, Janice, Davis, Arthur Paul (Diane), Ira E. (Darlene), Sherry Mack and Sheila Mack Reese (William). He also has a daughter, Diane McNear all of Panama City, Fla. "Bud," as he was so affectionately known, loved God, his family, drag racing and his yellow Grand Prix, in that order. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary True Holiness Church. Bud worked until his retirement at Florida Mining for over 37 years and also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susie; six children, Diane, Janice, Arthur, Irs E.; Sherry and Sheila; three sisters, Catherine (Willie) Jennings, Panama City, Fla.; Irene (Paul) Gilbert, Xenia, Ohio; Claudia (Walter) Harmon, Anchorage, Alaska; three brothers preceded him in death, David Mack I, Benjamin Mack, Freddie Mack; his in-laws, Flora Mae Carter, Hasting, Fla; Herman (Pearline) Reed, Elliott (Dreena) Reed, Vivian (Robert) Ashley, all of Panama City, Fla.; Arthur Paul Reed (Effie), Vernon, Fla.; 22 Grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, a forever special son-in-law, Hugh David Smith, Nashville, Tenn.; many friends from all over and special friends of the Power House Race Track. Funeral services for Deacon Mack will be held Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11a.m. in the Neals Temple First Born Church with Bishop S.J. Williams, Pastor and Bishop Richard Jenkins, Sr.; officiating. Interment will follow in the Redwood Cemetery. Public visitation will began at the funeral home this afternoon from 1 to 8 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at their residence of 1717 Louisiana Ave.

BETTY MARTIN
Mrs. Betty Martin, 80, of Panama City, Fla., passed away, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2001 at her home after an extended illness. Born in Holmes County, Fla., she had been a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Martin and her husband, Mr. George C. Martin Sr., founded M&M Mobile Homes in 1963. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dianne Martin precedes her in death, along with several one brother and 11 sisters. Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, George C. Martin; one son, George C. Martin, Jr.; two daughters, Betty Sue Collins and husband Sam P. Collins all of Panama City, Fla., and Elizabeth Ann McSpadden and husband Richard G. McSpadden Sr. of Royston, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, Donna McSpadden and husband Allen, Tanya Sue Riley, Richard G. McSpadden Jr., Betty Lynn Jones, Clifton C. McSpadden and wife Trisha, George "Marty" Martin, III and wife Nancy, Debra E. Polk and husband Richard, Kimberly L. Pettis and husband Michael, Cheryl R. Bryan and husband Don, Laura "Lanice" Cleckler and husband Bobby, Dana L. Schiro and husband Todd and Summer M. Collins; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 at 3 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Key officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: George "Marty" Martin, III, Cliff McSpadden, Richard McSpadden Jr., Michael Pettis, Michael Jones and Bobby Cleckler. Honorary pallbearers will be: Skipper Denham, Richard Polk, Don Bryan, Todd Schiro, Bill Allen, Jr. and Aubrey Bo Davis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

MARTHA VIRGINIA MAXTED
Martha Virginia Maxted of Panama City died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 11, 1914 in Ashford, Ala., and had been a resident of Panama City since 1942. She worked as customer relations for Commercial Bank from 1962 to 1983. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City and the Faithful Servants Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Kent Maxted Sr., her parents, Oscar M. and Odessa Myrtle Holman, two brothers, Oscar Meigs Holman Jr., John Lamar Holman, three sisters, Catherine Holman, Evelyn Holman, Miriam Theresa Holman. She is survived by two sons, John Blackburn and his wife, Katherine of Lafayette, La., Sam Blackburn and his wife, JoAnn of Hopewell, Va., three grandchildren, Shaun Thomas Blackburn, Ashley Gail Washington, Nick DeMuro, two great-grandchildren, Avery Blackburn, Anthony DeMuro, sister, Eleanor Lyle, and brother, Howard Holman. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Conner officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church in memory of Martha Maxted.

PEARL LAIRD MILLER
Pearl Laird Miller, 92, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., died Tuesday. Services will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4315 Main St., with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery (Gate 1). The family will receive friends and relatives at the chapel before the service. A descendant of pioneer families of Florida and Alabama, she was the daughter of Ada Victoria Zorn of Florala, Ala., and John Henry Laird of Panama City, Fla. She was the widow of the late William Whitfield Miller of Jacksonville, Fla., and was a former member of the Riverside Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. She was retired as a school teacher at the Ruth N. Upton School in Jacksonville. She is survived by a brother, John Henry Laird of Hattiesburg, Miss., two sons, William Whitfield Miller and his wife Molly and John Michael Miller, both of Tallahassee, Fla., daughter, Jane Laird Miller Arnett and her husband Vance of Safety Harbor, Fla., and six grandchildren, William Whitfield Miller III, Joy Anna Miller, Jill L. Miller, Catherine W. Pope, Gregory W. Pope and Gabriel T. Arnett. Hardage-Gidden Funeral Home, 4315 Main St., Jacksonville, FL 32206, 904-355-5641, Ext. 501 is in charge of the arrangements.

KENNETH DAVID PURVIS JR.
Kenneth David Purvis Jr., born Oct. 4, 1984, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 18, 2001. We rejoice in the knowledge that he will suffer no more and will soar with the angels forever. His care, sense of humor, patience, and love for his family was surely a gift from God. He was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by his family. His father, Kenneth D. (Kenny) Purvis Sr. and stepmother, Tina, his (guardian angel) grandmother, Lell Purvis, his aunt, Shirley Vaughn and her husband Tommy and their children, Jaime and Jared, his uncle, Bobby Purvis and his wife, Charlotte, and their children, Michele Jordan and her husband, Clayton and their child, Alexandra, Chris Purvis and his wife, Brandi, and numerous great aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Albert Rudolph Purvis. Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Thompson and the Rev. Baldwin Holmes officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers are Chris Purvis, Jay Purvis, Mike Purvis, Steve Harbuck, Ken Turner, and Dwayne Purvis. WILLIAM C. 'BILL' ROWE
Mr. William C. "Bill" Rowe, age 80, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001 at a local hospital. He has been a resident of the area for 60 years, coming here from Florala, Ala., and was a devoted family man. Mr. Rowe is survived by his wife: Mattie Rowe of Panama City, Fla.; a son: William C. Rowe, Jr. and his wife Donna of Panama City, Fla.; three daughters: Gaile Hoffman and her husband James of Milton, Fla., and Frances Ramsauer and Kathy Rowe, both of Panama City, Fla.; eight grandchildren: and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Key officiating.

JOE BRYANT SKIPPER
Joe Bryant Skipper, 89, of 2420 East Second Plaza, Panama City, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 in a local hospital. He was born in Slocomb, Ala., and had been resident of Bay County for 70 years. He was retired from Arizona Chemical Company. He was a member of the International Paper Chemical Workers Local 328. Mr. Skipper was a Deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church where he was a lifelong member. He loved playing and being with young people, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very witty with an incredible sense of humor until the end. Among his favorite hobbies were the Atlanta Braves and gardening, which he last tended in 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Holland Skipper and son Billie Joe Skipper. Mr. Skipper is survived by two sons, Charles Allen Skipper and his wife, Deborah of Orlando, Fla., James Larry Skipper, daughter-in-law Frances Skipper both of Panama City, brother, Olan Skipper of Hanahan, S.C., five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous friends and extended family. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Adolph Bedsole and the Rev. Don Redmond officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6-8 p.m.

PEARL LEE WALKER
Mrs. Pearl Lee Walker, age 98, of Laguna Beach, Fla., passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 at her home. She has been a resident of the area since 1966, coming here from Michigan. Mrs. Walker was a homemaker and a member of Beach Church of Christ. She is survived by her sister-in-law: Madeline Halfacre of Panama City Beach, Fla.; a nephew: Bobby Halfacre of Gainesville, Fla.; niece: Donna Vitale of Chicago, Ill.; brothers-in-law, James B. Walker and Jay W. McGee, both of Tennessee; numerous other family and friends; and caregivers Dan and Nan Skipper of Laguna Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. KAREN BEASLEY
Karen Beasley, age 60, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, in her home after a valiant battle with cancer. Ms. Nesbitt was born in Panama City, Fla. She graduated from The University of Alabama College of Nursing. Most recently Ms. Nesbitt was the nurse recruiter for Miami Children's Hospital. She is survived by a brother, Michael Beasley; a stepdaughter, Barbara Zanni; and her son, Thomas (Jacko) Nesbitt. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may make a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society. Church Vernon, with the Rev. Hazel Vience, officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvania Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
