LILLIAN FISHER RADFORD
Mrs. Lillian Fisher Radford, 93, of Panama City, died Feb. 4 at a local hospital. She was born July 30, 1908, in Mulberry, Fla. As a child, she lived in Washington state before the family moved to Cross City, Fla., where she completed high school. She was the last surviving member of the 1927 inaugural graduating class of Dixie County High School. After attending nursing school in Quitman, Ga., she married George Radford and moved to St. Augustine, Fla., where she lived for 20 years. Widowed while her sons were young, she raised them alone and performed many jobs, primarily in practical nursing, over the next 30 years in St. Augustine, Jacksonville and Tampa. She retired in Tampa in the 1970s and moved to Panama City in 1995, where she found a wonderful home at Glen Cove Nursing Pavilion. She leaves behind devoted sons Ronnie Radford (colonel, USAF retired) of Warner Robins, Ga., and James Radford (senior master sergeant, USAF retired) of Panama City; loving sisters Alline (Dutch) Methvin of Panama City and Ruth Pender of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Joel Radford of Hollis, N.H., Laura Radford of Orlando, Fla., Gina McLean of Valrico, Nikki Hensley of Ensign, Kan., David Radford of Lizuka City, Japan, Joseph Haray of San Antonio, Texas, and Tara McGraw of Warner Robins; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Lindsay McLean, Brandi, Brody, Brock and Bradyn Radford, Sheila and James Hensley, Jimu, Kei and Miku Radford, Ryan and Riley McGraw and great- great-granddaughter, Ayanna Hensley. A memorial service will be held at Glen Cove Nursing Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 3:30 p.m. At a later date, her ashes will be interred at her parents' graves in Cross City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Englewood, CO 80112. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed; truly, "Miss Lil" never met a stranger.

Mrs. Jane F. Griffin, of Panama City, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, in a local nursing home. Born in Alabama, she moved to Panama City in 1980 from Silver Springs, Md. Mrs. Griffin was an executive secretary for the District of Columbia and a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Griffin. Mrs. Griffin is survived by her loving nephew, Paul La Pointe; dear friend, Helen Summerlin; and a host of good friends and church family. Graveside services for Mrs. Griffin will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. in Lynn Haven Cemetery. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

MADELEINE MARIE EMMA GIRVIN HALFACRE
Madeleine Halfacre, 89, of Panama City Beach, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in a local hospital. She had been a resident of Bay County since 1957, moving here from Inkster, Mich. Mrs. Halfacre was a motel and restaurant owner and retired from Hutchison Beach Elementary School, where she was in food service. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City Beach and a past Royal Matron of the Order of the Amaranth in Panama City. Mrs. Halfacre was preceded in death by her loving husband, Veedie Halfacre. She is survived by her son, Bob Halfacre and his wife, Melba, of Gainesville, Fla.; her granddaughter, Pamela Halfacre Gregory; and her great-grandson, Jason Gregory, both of Panama City Beach; two grandsons, Kevin Halfacre and Kyle Halfacre and his wife, Cindy, all of Gainesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of First Methodist Church of Panama City, 903 E. Fourth St., with Brother David Warren and Brother Si Mathison, pastor emeritus, officiating. Mrs. Halfacre will be laid to rest beside her husband at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Southerland Funeral Home today, Feb. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.

JOHN L. HIGGINBOTHAM
Mr. John L. Higginbotham, 65, of Port St. Joe, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at his residence. He was a native of Alexandria, Va. Mr. Higginbotham was a lifelong member of the Amvets, the American Legion, the United States Marine Corps Legion and a devoted VFW volunteer. He is survived by two sons, John Higginbotham Jr. and wife, Gina, of Odenton, Md., and Wayne Higginbotham and wife, Jeanne, of Mason Neck, Va.; one daughter, Bobbi Jeanne Atkins of Port St. Joe; grandchildren, Sara and Jeffrey Higginbotham of Odenton, Md., and Jackie Higginbotham of Mason Neck, Va.; brother, Charles Higginbotham of Burke, Va.; and a host of friends. Memorial services for Mr. Higginbotham will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the VFW Post 10069, 1774 Trout Ave., Port St. Joe, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Mr. Higginbotham.

GRACE HORTON
Mrs. Grace Horton, a devoted and beloved wife and mother, 90, of Panama City, Fla., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at a local nursing facility. She has been a resident of Panama City since 1980, coming here from Miami, Fla. Mrs. Horton was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, the Coachman Camping Group, and the Elks Camping Group. Mrs. Horton's father was the No. 2 founding charter member of Kiwanis International. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Hugh Horton of Panama City; a daughter, Katie Koehnemann, and her companion and friend, Bill McLendon, both of Panama City; three grandchildren, Kathryn Koehnemann, Matthew Koehnemann, and Andrew Koehnemann, all of Panama City; and a sister-in-law, Martha Ann Haas of Miami. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Horton; a grandson, Patrick Matthew Koehnemann; a brother, George "Sonny" Haas; two sisters, Sally Haas and Patricia Haas; and her mother and father, George and Elizabeth Haas. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Feb. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.

CURTIS 'TOBY' KELLY
Mr. Curtis "Toby" Kelly, 79, of Panama City, formerly of Graceville, died Feb. 20, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Chapel of James and Lipford Funeral Home with the Rev. Eloise Pippin and the Rev. Dale Worley officiating. Burial will follow in E. Mt. Zion Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing. Mr. Kelly was born May 24, 1921, in Holmes County, Fla., to the late William Grover and Essie Worley Kelly. He is survived by two brothers, M.D. Kelly of Quincy and Hurtis Kelly of Tallahassee; three sisters, Lucille Strain of Pensacola, Estelle McKee of Graceville, Cumi Wood of Lakeland; and several nieces and nephews.

CHRISTOPHER DELANEY LEDFORD
Mr. Christopher Ledford, 44, of Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham after a lengthy illness. Mr. Ledford was born in Columbus, Ohio. He was a graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School in Knoxville, Tenn. Mr. Ledford served in the U.S. Navy for 13 years and was employed at Wal-Mart Supercenter in Panama City Beach. He is survived by his wife, Deanna Jackson-Ledford; children, Christopher and Jessica; and his special buddy, Ranger; all of Panama City Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Dennie Ledford; father, C. Edward Wade; and brother, Matthew Ledford. He is also survived by mother, Jerry Wade; brothers, Michael Ledford, Patrick Ledford, Patrick Wade and Keath Wade; and sisters, Linda Ledford, Francis Ledford, Marty Rucker and Lydia Baird. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The United Network for Organ Sharing, care of UNOS Foundation. A special thanks to the University of Alabama at Birmingham hospital staff.

RICHARD LEWIS OWENS
Mr. Richard Lewis Owens, 52, of 201 W. l4th St., Lot 2, in Lynn Haven, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a native and a resident of Panama City for more than 30 years. He attended public schools in Gulf County. He united with Greater Friendship Baptist Church where he was a faithful and devoted member of Choir No. 2, male chorus, and kitchen ministry. He was certified and received certificates in Cooking and Baking Division of Hotel and Restaurants, food manager, and certified in nursing. He was formerly employed at Holiday Inn West for many years. He is survived by a special devoted friend, Robert Karvanek Jr.; eight brothers, Willie James Owens (Gwen) of Panama City, Johnnie B. Owens (Jenell) and David L. Owens (Lorella) both of Lanett, Ala., Lorenzer Owens Jr. (Gwendolyn) of Lynn Haven, Leon Owens (Shelena) of Bristol, Michael Williams (Phillis) of Eatontown, N.J., Jessie Owens (Wanda Faye) of Spring Lake, N.C., and Earnest Peace Jr. (Toni) of Niles, Mich.; four sisters, Geraldine Harvis (Robert), Lorene O. Caldwell (English Lynn), and Freddie Mae Jackson, all of Panama City, Sheila Fisher (Charles) of Wewahitchka; two godmothers, Carrie Pope and Bertha Peterson; one godchild, Japan Chancellor; one special adopted niece, Mary M. Peace Pharham; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends. Funeral services for Mr. Owens will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. in Greater Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. James Youmas, pastor, officiating. The remains will repose at the church this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and will lie in state on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time. Mr. Robert L. "Sandy" Sanderson, 66, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at a local hospital. CARL CRAWFORD WEATHERS
Mr. Carl Crawford Weathers, 87, of 317 Springfield Ave., Panama City, died Sunday evening, Feb. 17, 2002, at his residence. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1933, moving here from Columbia, Ala. Mr. Weathers was a retired machine tender after 42 years from International Paper Co. He was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Mr. Weathers is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Suggs Weathers; and daughter, Renee Carol Weathers. He is survived by one son, Carl Lamar Weathers; one daughter, Doris Bradford, both of Panama City; two sisters, Helen Jarrett of Panama City, Nell Carpenter and husband, Warren, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Gaila Wallace and husband, Mike, of Youngstown, Karen Burleson of Panama City and Andrea Richard and husband, Thomas, of Tampa; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services for Mr. Weathers will be conducted today, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.C. Warren officiating and the Rev. Mike Parker and the Rev. Fred Melvin assisting. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers: Fred Shoemaker, Willard Sellars, Greg Jenkins, Lloyd Warren, Charles Willis, Russell Willis and Mike Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Weathers' former co-workers at International Paper Co. and the senior members of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a hospice of choice in memory of Mr. Weathers.

THEODORE J. WINTER
Mr. Theodore J. Winter, 79, was born in Monclova, Ohio, in 1922. Mr. Winter passed away at St. Andrews Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Winter received a honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps with the rank of corporal. Mr. Winter worked for many years as a fishing boat captain, and managed the Rescue Mission Thrift store, where he worked very closely with the late the Rev. Joe Daniels. Mr. Winter graduated from Agriculture College. Mr. Winter leaves to mourn his passing four children, Kay Johnson (Larry) of Florida, Joyce Bird of St. Petersburg, Theodore J. Winter Jr. (Patty) of St. Petersburg and Sue Ann Winter of St. Petersburg; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a beloved niece and caregiver, Rebecca Ogburn; and his faithful friends and companions, Bobo, Wickey, Puttin, and Angel (his doggies). Memorialization for Mr. Winter will be by cremation.
