Miss Amy Kathleen Swallick

Amy Kathleen Swallick, 39, Bradenton, formerly Holmes Beach, passed away Jan. 8, 2014.

Amy was born icon on January 17, 1974 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to the late Edward Joseph and Mary Alice (Cutler) Swallick.

She moved to Manatee County in 1989 settling in Holmes Beach where she lived until 2012 when she moved to Bradenton. She worked as a cook for Rotten Ralph’s on the Island and also as a convenience store clerk for Jessies Island Store in Holmes Beach.

Amy is survived by her loving sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Timothy Yarger of Bradenton, and a host of many extended family members and friends.

There will be a private family service at a later date and time.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, Bradenton, Fl.

Mr. Patrick M. Rice

Patrick M. Rice, 87, Bradenton, passed away Jan. 10, 2014. He was born icon March 25, 1926 in Elcho, WI to the late Dennis E. and Clara H. (Borth) Rice. Patrick served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. Following his military service he attended and graduated from the Benjamin Franklin University in Washington D.C. He then went to work as an Administrator for the Government and also as an accountant in the telephone industry. He moved to Bradenton in June of 1995 coming from St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands. Patrick's memberships included the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans, Rotary Club of South Manatee all of Bradenton. The Rotary Club of St. Thomas, Rotary Club of St. Thomas II, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the Selective Service System all of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Patrick was the 11th of 13 children, 11 of whom have predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Condon) Rice of Bradenton, two sons; Christopher C. of Woodbridge, VA, Kevin F. (Maria Cruz) Rice of Bradenton, one daughter; M.C. Rice of Bradenton , one brother, Eugene (Dolores) Rice of Clintonville, WI, one granddaughter, Heather Marie Rice of Bradenton, numerous nieces and nephews and tons of cousins, and close friends. A Family Eulogy will be held at 9:15 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3100 26th St. W., Bradenton. Committal will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the children's ministry at St. Joseph Catholic Church in his memory.

Mrs. Norma W. Stahl

Norma W. Stahl, 86, passed away on January 9, 2014.

Norma was born icon May 14, 1927 in California, was raised in Michigan and came to Bradenton in 1927. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

Norma leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years, Marvin, son; James (Denise) Stahl of North Carolina, and two grandsons; Landan Stahl of North Carolina and Jessie Stahl of Texas.

Mr. George Barnhart

George Barnhart, 53, of Bradenton, passed away on September 14, 2014.

He is survived by a loving family.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, September 21st from 12:00 – 1:00pm with a Memorial Service commencing at 1:00pm at Shannon Funeral Home, 1015 14th Street W. Bradenton.

Mrs. Nancy T. Bennett

Nancy T. Bennett, 82, Bradenton, passed away Sept. 13, 2014. She was born icon August 30, 1932 in Miami, FL to the late Henry Blake and Hilda (Patton) Thackston. She moved to Bradenton in 1942, and was a graduate of Manatee High School Class of 1950.

Nancy worked as a customer service representative for Westside National Bank which later became known as Barnett Bank. She retired from the bank in 1994 with 22 years of loyal service.

She was also a member of West Bradenton Baptist Church. She was an avid reader and shared her love of traveling with her husband Richard.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Richard of Bradenton, three caring daughters; Linda Bennett of Mesa, AZ, Sandra (Ken) Lee of Sarasota, Elizabeth (Rick) Robinson of Tampa, dear sister, Barbara (Bill) King of Bradenton, four precious grandchildren; Scott and Stephen Bennett of Mesa, AZ, Richard and Lindsey Robinson of Tampa, and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 P.M. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014 at Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, 5610 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton with a celebration of Nancy's life to follow at 3 P.M.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Manatee County Library Foundation, 1301 Barcarrota Blvd. West, Bradenton, Fl 34205 in her memory.

Mr. Richard F. Schluederberg, Sr.

Richard F. Schluederberg Sr., 91, died peacefully in his home in Holmes Beach FL on Sept 10, 2014.

Mr. Schluederberg was born icon on May 5, 1923 in Pittsburgh to the late Carl George and Roberta (Skene) Schluederberg. He grew up in Lakewood OH and graduated from University School, Shaker Heights OH.

A WWII veteran, he served in the US Army’s 66th (Black Panther) Infantry Division in the Northern France Campaign, fighting and holding pockets of Nazi forces near the fortified port of St. Nazaire until the surrender of Germany. His unit was moved to Marseille before being transferred to the 42nd (Rainbow) Infantry Division occupational forces.

Mr. Schluederberg began his life-long career in security analysis and portfolio management in 1949 at Mercantile-Safe Deposit and Trust Co. and Naess and Thomas in Baltimore. He moved to New York City in 1962 where he worked for investment counseling firms Brundage Story & Rose and Lionel D. Edie & Co. In 1976 he returned to Baltimore to join Maryland National Bank as Senior Portfolio Manager and retired in 1991 as Senior Vice President, Bank of America.

An avid sailor, he was a member of sailing teams at Cornell University and Ohio State University and a lifetime member of the International Star Class Yacht Racing Assn. He raced cruising class boats on Long Island Sound for Noroton Bay Yacht Club and on Chesapeake Bay for Potapskut Sailing Assn. and Gibson Island Yacht Squadron, his yacht Serendipity winning the CBYRA 1960 C Class High Point Trophy. He served as helmsman in numerous Newport to Bermuda races.

He competed on varsity track teams at Cornell and Ohio State and participated in the 1945 athletic games organized by General Patton in Nuremberg, Germany.

He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ann Snider Schluederberg; five children: Suzanne Schluederberg of Ann Arbor MI, Richard Schluederberg Jr. of Florida, C. Jeffrey Schluederberg of Bel Air MD, Peter Schluederberg of San Elijo Hills CA and Scott Schluederberg of Elkridge MD; and seven grandchildren: Rachelle Lesko, Eric, Evan, Katie, Quinton, Kelly and Lauren Schluederberg.

A memorial service will be held on Gibson Island MD.

Mr. Donald William Meilner, Sr.

Donald William Meilner Sr., 98, Bradenton, passed away and joined Natalie, the love of his life for 56 years on Aug. 30, 2014.

He was born icon in Chicago on Dec. 18, 1915. An Army Veteran of WWII, Don retired from Western Electric Co. and moved to Bradenton in 1977.

Survived by his sister Mary Deneen, and brother Edward (Phyllis). His Daughter Judith Snyder and son Don Jr.(JoAnn). Grandchildren Kelly Stanton, Erik Henriksen (Jill) and Amelia Talucci (Nathan). great-grandchildren Melissa Howell (Oakley), Sydney Stanton and Jacob, Evan, and Natalie Talucci, and one great-great-grandson Jameson Howell.

A Celebration Open house of his wonderful life will take place from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the home of Don & JoAnn Meilner.

Mr. Paul Evans, Jr.

Paul Evans, Jr., 83, Bradenton, passed away September 4, 2014 at the Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.

Paul was born icon on September 26, 1930 in Greensburg, Indiana to the late Paul Sr. and Grace (Lyons) Evans. He was retired from the United States Armed Services. Following his retirement he moved to Florida and worked for Bay Pines Veterans Administration Medical Center in the Engineering Department as a painter from which he retired after many years of service. He was also a member of the D.A.V., V.F.W., and American Legion Posts throughout the years.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Lois and a son Chester. Survived by his two sons and their wives; Terry and Michelle Evans, Robert and Sue Evans, daughter and her husband; Betty-Jean and David Pingleton all of Indianapolis, IN, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the D.A.V. Post 18, 111 63rd Avenue East, Bradenton. Further services will be held at a later date in Indiana.

Arrangements by Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, Bradenton.
