Mr. Henry Wit, a resident of Lake Clear, NY and Eustis, FL, passed away on Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 at the age of 70 years. Mr. Wit was born in Middlestum, Holland to Mr. Joost and Mrs. Eltje (Klooster) Wit. He retired from the New York State Police. Henry and his wife of 28 years, Wendy moved from Wadhams, NY to Eustis, FL in 1988 and have been spending half the year in Eustis and half in Lake Clear, NY. Henry was a member of Christ Community Church of Deland, FL. He was remembered by his wife, Wendy; mother, Eltje Wit of Deland; son, Joel Wit of Lake Clear, NY; daughter, Eva (James) Stinson of Saranac Lake, NY; brothers, George (Connie) Wit of Montgomery, NY and Garry (Joanne) Wit of Sanford, FL; two grandchildren, Brian and Jessica Stinson and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake, New York. Local services were held at Christ Community Church in Deland, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778. Arrangements were entrusted to Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors, Eustis, FL, 352-357-4193.

Catherine Morley
March 14, 1924 - November 12, 2009

Mrs. Catherine Morley, of Grand Island, FL, passed away on Thursday, November 12th, 2009 at the age of 85 years. She was born in Terre Haute, IN to James and Sadie Marie (Hayes) Dowell. She volunteered for the Genessee County Center for Retarded Children in Michigan. Catherine, along with her husband, Daniel, who preceded her in death, moved to central Florida in 1980 from Flint, MI. Catherine is survived by her daughters, Linda Morley and Bonnie Elliott, both of Leesburg, FL; brothers, Paul Dowell of Ft. Myers, FL and Bob Dowell of Terre Haute, IN; sisters, Barb Schimmel of Brazil, IN and Bea Cannon of Terre Haute, IN; 2 grandchildren, Heather French of Davenport, FL and Robert Wolgast II of Summerfield, FL; as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Zachary Wolgast. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Sunrise ARC, 35201 Radio Road, Leesburg, FL 34788. Arrangements are entrusted to Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors, Eustis, FL, 352-357-4193.

Aubrey Marie Wood
April 25, 1997 - June 15, 2009

Aubrey Marie Wood, 12 of Heathrow passed away on June 15, 2009. She was born in Ft. Pierce, Florida and moved to Heathrow from Port St. Lucie in 1999. Aubrey was a student at Markham Woods Middle School. Aubrey is survived by her paternal grandmother and her husband Carol and Frank Taylor of Leesburg, her maternal grandfather and his wife Walter and Geri Apgar of Ormond Beach, her aunt Judi and uncle Chuck Wood of Umatilla and her uncles Charles "Charlie" Apgar and David Apgar both of Ormond Beach. Visitation was held in the First Baptist Church of Umatilla Monday from 5 until 7 PM. Funeral services was in the Church on Tuesday June 23 at 11 AM with Rev. Brooks Braswell officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorials to the Wood Family Memorial Fund at the United Southern Bank, P.O. Drawer 29, Umatilla, FL 32784

Dillon Avery Wood
March 25, 1999 - June 15, 2009

Dillon Avery Wood, 10 of Heathrow passed away on June 15, 2009. He was born in Altamonte Springs and was a student at Heathrow Elementary School. John Dillon J.D. Wood
October 24, 1967 - June 15, 2009

John Dillon "J.D." Wood, 41 of Heathrow passed away on June 15, 2009. He was born in Rolla, Missouri and moved to Heathrow in 1999 from Port St. Lucie. He had worked for Lowes Home Improvement Stores for many years. J.D. is survived by his Mother Carol Taylor and her husband Frank of Leesburg, his brother Charles Avery "Chuck" (Judi) Wood of Umatilla and his uncle Carlton (Ann) Wood of Harrisburg, North Carolina. Visitation was held in the First Baptist Church of Umatilla Monday from 5 until 7 PM. Funeral services was in the Church on Tuesday June 23 at 11 AM with Rev. Brooks Braswell officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorials to the Wood Family Memorial Fund at the United Southern Bank, P.O. Drawer 29, Umatilla, FL 32784.

Bert Robertson Yarbrough
March 15, 1933 - September 15, 2009

Bert Robertson Yarbrough, 76 of Eustis was born on March 15, 1933 in Evergreen, Alabama and passed away on September 15, 2009. He had lived in Eustis over 20 years and was a Graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He spent two years as a Navel Officer in the Pacific Fleet. Mr. Yarbrough enjoyed worldwide travel and was an active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Eustis. He had worked as a self- employed importer having operated a shop in Winter Park and for J.C. Penny for a number of years. He was survived by his sister Frances Ann (Bob) King of Atlanta, nieces Pam King of Atlanta and Debbie Hayes of Kansas City, Kansas, one great niece and two great nephews. The family requested those desiring direct memorials to the First Church of Christ Scientist, 301 S. Grove Street, Eustis, FL 32726. Memorial Services were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Monday September 21, 2009 at 10 AM.

Mathew P. Zingsheim
November 14, 1922 - March 31, 2009

Mathew P. Zingsheim, 86, of Tavares passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved here from Illinois in 1987. He was Lutheran and a retired accountant. He is survived by his sister, Mae Kinnamon of Lake Barrington, Illinois and two nephews, Terry Kinnamon of Naples, Florida and Leigh P. Kinnamon of Lake Barrington, Illinois. Mr. Zingsheim's final services and interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington, Illinois was handled by Davenport Funeral Home (847-381-3411) of Barrington.

Richard S. Zinn Jr.
August 07, 1926 - April 17, 2009

Richard Stevenson Zinn Jr. 82, of Eustis, passed away on Friday April 17, 2009. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved here from Clearwater in 1993. Mr. Zinn was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a career Cameraman. He did freelance work for Channel 13 and the Lincoln Center in New York City, worked for the Hughes Sports Network, won an Emmy for his work on the series "The Edge of Night", did broadcast work for professional wresting in the Tampa area, the Tampa Bay Lighting, and the Orlando Magic. He is survived by his son Richard Zinn III of Milford, New Jersey, his stepchildren, Shari Hamilton, Janice Casper and Thomas McClain all of Eustis, and Beverly Lezark of Evergreen, Colorado, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William R. "Bill" Shamrock William R. "Bill" Shamrock
November 29, 1914 - March 22, 2010

William R. “Bill” Shamrock, 95 of Altoona passed away in Tavares on Monday, March 22, 2010. As a young man, William was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, and worked in California and Virginia. He then worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania, was instrumental in the safety of those he worked with, and was responsible for the saving of a fellow worker’s life. After retirement in 1975, William and Lillian moved to their new home on Lake Yale in Grand Island, Florida. He was a prolific and knowledgeable gardener and took pride in his varieties of citrus. He could often be seen rowing across the lake with his “catch of the day.” He and Lillian moved to Lakeview Terrace in Altoona in July 1996, where they made new friends and continued their love of travel, visiting such places as Hawaii, Alaska, the Canadian Rockies, and Branson. Bill also continued his love of gardening, and enjoyed sharing the bounties of his efforts with friends. He was never too busy to talk, and was an active, contributing member of the Lakeview Terrace community. Bill was predeceased by Lillian Holly Shamrock, his wife of 67 years, in 2005. Bill carried his 95 years with grace and integrity. He is survived by his brothers; Keith (Pat) Shamrock and Fred (Ruth) Shamrock all of Grand Island, Florida, sisters; Deloris (Frank) Christovich of Tallmadge, Ohio and Katherine Kokesh of Masontown, Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews, his sisters in law; Helen Shamrock of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Therese Holly Cantini of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and his companion Edith Dill. A gathering will he held Thursday evening from 6 until 8 PM, a Blessing Service will follow on Friday at 10 AM both in the Chapel of Haky Funeral Home (724-437-2756) Uniontown, Pennsylvania, interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 31 at 2 PM at Lakeview Terrace in Altoona. The family requests that memorials be sent to Blue Lake Academy, 3551 E. Orange Avenue, Eustis, Florida 32736.

Joan S. Mitnik
April 21, 1924 - May 24, 2009

Joan S. Mitnik, 85, of Eustis passed away in Orlando on Sunday, May 24, 2009. She was born in Deland and lived in Eustis all her life. She was a member of Saint Thomas Episcopal Church of Eustis and was an organist for her church for over 40 years. She was an educator with the Lake County Public School System, taught at Eustis High School and served as a Guidance Councilor at Mount Dora High School and Umatilla Elementary School. She was a member of Chapter FF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood of
Eustis and of the Florida Retired Educators Association. Mrs. Mitnik had been honored by being chosen to serve as the Orange Queen for the Eustis Washington's Birthday Festival. She was an Angel on earth and is now an Angel in Heaven. She is survived by her sons, Brian (Monique) Mitnik of Orlando and Keith (Gwen) Mitnik of Groveland, her grandchildren Jennifer Guck of England, Benjamin, Madison and Lexington Mitnik all of Orlando and a great-granddaughter Kelsey Guck of England. Mrs. Mitnik was predeceased by her husband "Nick" in 2005. Funeral Services were held in Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, 317 South Mary Street, Eustis at 11 AM Saturday May 30, with Rev. Dr. John Jacobs officiating, interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorials to Saint Thomas Episcopal Church of Eustis.

Ethel C. Maholm
September 8, 1914 - March 25, 2010

Ethel C. Maholm

Ethel C. Maholm 95, of Altoona passed away on Thursday March 25, 2010. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved to the Eustis-Altoona area in 1963. Mrs. Maholm was a member of the Altoona United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society of Avante and the Magnolia Garden Club of Eustis.

She is survived by her children; Diana Strickland of Winter Garden, Phyllis Malcolm of Altoona and Joash (Karen) Maholm also of Altoona, her brother Richard Church of Sunrise, Florida, eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Maholm was predeceased by her husband Phillip in 1986 and her son Phillip in 1962.

A gathering was held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel from 4 until 6 PM Thursday April 1, 2010. Ceremonies were held on Friday April 2, 2010 at 11 AM in the Chapel, entombment followed in Lakeside Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Eustis.

Marilyn J. Hare

Marilyn J. Hare, 80 of Grand Island and Brockport, New York passed away on Saturday March 27, 2010. She was born in Brockport and moved here in 1987. Mrs. Hare was Methodist and is survived by her husband George, they have been married for 56 years, her children; Thomas (Karla) Hare of Canandaigua, New York, James (Joan) Hare of Brockport, Richard (Denise) Hare of Kent, New York and Patricia (Robert) Vanderstouw of Hamlin, New York, a sister Barbara (Dayton) Smith of Brockport, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be directed to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, 32778

Edward Messal
November 13, 1921 - March 28, 2010

Edward Messal of Grand Island, FL passed away on March 28, 2010 in his 88th year. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lavina (Dings) and his two daughters and son in laws, Dianne and Robert Harris of Clarksville, TN and Deborah Messal and David Kazdan of Toronto, Canada. It is not about the loss of life but the life that was lived. Born in Chicago, the fourth of five children, he was raised near Benton Harbor, MI.

He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Messal owned a gas and oil business in Covert Michigan where he was Township Treasurer and Assistant Chief of the Fire Department for 15 years. Ed had a 20 year career in the paper box industry in Michigan and in 1967 he was Master of the Masonic Lodge in Watervliet. He was a partner in Smuggler’s Antique business and an avid collector of Royal Doulton. In 1980 they moved to West Palm Beach, Florida where they made their home for 20 years and were in property management and import transportation. His final retirement came at age 78 when he and Lavina moved to Grand Island, Florida and became a part of the Sunlake Estates Community. He was an avid card player and active in the community activities with many friends from his residence that was overlooking Lake Yale. He was a kind and gentle man with a big heart. He inspired others with his sense of fairness, ambitious drive, love of family and abundance of patience. He bravely faced his continuous health challenges over the past years.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, April 17 at the Sunlake Estates Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers charitable donations can be made to a memorial fund: Edward Messal, at Suntrust Bank, 15375 US Highway 441, Eustis, FL 32726.

Irma Peterson Irma Peterson
February 13, 1923 - March 30, 2010

Irma Peterson, who was called “Oma” by everyone, passed away quietly in her sleep on Tuesday March 30th. She was born 87 years ago in Augsburg, Germany to Josef and Maria Braun. She had one brother, Alfred. During World War II she was trained as a weather observer. In 1952 she immigrated to the United States to marry a young American soldier, Max Peterson of Colorado. She was granted United States citizenship in 1953, a privilege she was most proud of. Oma was a wonderful mother and homemaker and would continuously try to improve her English skills by playing hours of Scrabble. She enjoyed traveling, swimming and garage sales.

She is survived by her daughter, Ingrid Peterson, son-in-law, Lloyd Purdy, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She lived in Central Florida for fifty years and called Mount Dora home for the past three years.

Services were private with interment in Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.

Susie J. Roberts
March 4, 1940 - April 6, 2010

Susie J. Roberts, 70 of Eustis, passed away in Tavares on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. She was born in Baxley, Georgia and moved here in 1987 from Orlando. She was a retired Certified Nurse Assistant at Florida Hospital Waterman and attended the First United Methodist Church of Eustis.

Susie was predeceased by her husband John in 2007 and is survived by her children, John of Bainbridge, Georgia, Billy of Thomasville, Georgia, David of Lawrenceville New Jersey, Yeonnia Richter of Ailey, Georgia, Martha Trubey of Leesburg and LeeAnn S. King of Johnson City, Tennessee, her sister Ann Jordon of Cartersville, Georgia, seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

There was a gathering of family and friends in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 5 until 7 PM. Ceremonies were held in the Chapel on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10AM. Rev. Ruth Wendt officiated. Entombment followed in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis.

Ann Elizabeth Baker
September 11, 1923 - April 9, 2010

Ann Elizabeth Baker, 86, of Mount Dora passed away Friday April 9, 2010. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee and moved here in 1953. Mrs. Baker was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eustis, she had been a Sunday School Teacher at her church. She was predeceased by her husband Leighton in 1996, they were the former owners of A.W. Peterson Gun Shop of Mount Dora.

She is survived by four sons; Ronald L. Baker of Salt Springs, Steuart L. (Betty) Baker of Tavares, Roy L. (Marie) Baker of Eustis and Carey L. (Lori) Baker also of Eustis, her sister Evelyn Flannery of Hendersonville, Tennessee, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends called in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel from Noon until 2 PM Sunday April 11, 2010. Ceremonies were held in the Chapel on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 11 AM. Interment followed in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis.
