Yancey B. Walters
Yancey B. Walters of Gainesville died Saturday in her home. She was 78.
Mrs. Walters was born in Tallassee, Ala., and moved to Gainesville from Anniston, Ala., 30 years ago. She was a retired professor emeritus from the University of Florida.
Mrs. Walters grew up in Opelika, Ala. She earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from Montivello College in Alabama and a master's degree from Auburn University. Mrs. Walters worked with the U.S. Farm and Home Administration and the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service before coming to Florida as a district director with the Cooperative Extension Service at UF.
Mrs. Walters helped organize the expanded nutrition program and was its first director, serving until her retirement in 1988. She received many awards for distinguished and meritorious service including the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Meritorious Service Award.
She was a former president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 185; and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Sigma Phi, Gamma Sigma Delta and other organizations. Mrs. Walters was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville, where she served with distinction in many capacities.
Survivors include three sisters, Frances B. Tegeder of Atlanta, Ga., and Anne Bailey and Nancy Lynch, both of Gainesville.

Irene T. Bertotto
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Irene T. Bertotto died Monday at her home in Keystone Heights following an extended illness. She was 67.
Mrs. Bertotto was born in Jersey City, N.J., and moved to Keystone Heights from Hollywood, Fla., in 1983.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Williams Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Nestor "Skip" Bertotto of Keystone Heights; three daughters, Gail Ann Oeschger of Tallahassee, and Kathy Pendarvis and Shari Smith, both of Keystone Heights; a son, James Bertotto of Keystone Heights; a sister, Lorraine Pacailler of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.; three brothers, Robert Taylor of Apopka, Allan Taylor of Annapolis, Md., and Arthur Taylor of Shelton, Conn.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Steve Butler Carroll
LAKE BUTLER -- Steve Butler Carroll died Monday at his home in Lake Butler. He was 83.
Mr. Carroll was a lifelong resident of Union County.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Church of Christ of Lake Butler.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Thornton Carroll of Lake Butler; two sons, Jerry S. Carroll of Lake Butler and T. Ronald Carroll of Kissimmee; two sisters, Thelma Garibaldi San Carlos, Calif., and Elva Cobb of Jacksonville; a brother, Rance J. Carroll of Lake Butler; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
David Albert Denslow Sr.
David Albert Denslow Sr. of Gainesville died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 83.
Mr. Denslow was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, and moved to Gainesville from Bradenton 15 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired Methodist minister and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed photography.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Ashmore Denslow of Gainesville; a daughter, Harriet Noble of Gainesville; a son, David Denslow Jr. of Gainesville; two sisters, Hester Hansen of Sapphire, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Antonia Fuentes
STARKE -- Antonia Fuentes of Starke died Monday at Alachua Nursing Center following an extended illness. She was 72.
Mrs. Fuentes was born in Davao, Philippines, and moved to Starke in 1990.
She was a homemaker and a Catholic.
Survivors include five daughters, Melita Reddish of Starke, Regina Fuentes, Melanie Fuentes, Marilyn Fuentes and Virginia Fuentes, all of the Philippines; three sisters; a brother; and four grandchildren.
Robert Currie Hudson
CHIEFLAND -- Robert Currie Hudson died Sunday at his residence in Chiefland. He was 55.
Mr. Hudson was born in Newark, N.J., and moved to Chiefland from Fort Lauderdale 10 years ago.
He was a truck driver for a logging company.
Mr. Hudson was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 325 and the Teamsters Union.
He was a Methodist.
He enjoyed playing billiards.
Survivors include a daughter, Christine Hudson of Spotswood, N.J.; a son, Robert Hudson Jr. of Spotswood; his mother, Joanne Lewis of Pembroke Pines; two sisters, Ann Schuler of Plantation and Sue Zelnosky of Cary, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Leonard Thornton Johns
STARKE -- Leonard Thornton Johns died Monday at his residence in Starke following an extended illness. He was 83.
Mr. Johns was born in Tavares and moved to Starke at a young age.
He was a retired engineer for the Seaboard Coastline Railroad, a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and a former 12-year member of the Bradford County School Board.
He was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Starke.
Survivors include his wife, Lucile Johns of Starke; two daughters, Emily McDonald of Newport News, Va., and Gladys McRae of Starke; a son, Edwin F. Johns of Starke; a stepson, Dale Brown of Keystone Heights; two sisters, Jeraldine Johns Hooten of Kingsley Lake and Natalie Thornton of Starke; a brother, L.G. Johns Jr. of Fort McCoy; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Virginia King Odom
LAKE CITY -- Virginia King Odom, a longtime resident of Lake City, died Monday at National Health Care following a lengthy illness. She was 78.
Mrs. Odom was a school teacher in many elementary schools, including Melrose Elementary School.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a former director of the Children's Choir.
She enjoyed music and gardening.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald B. Odom.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, D.B. Odom of Lake City; a daughter, Martha Jane Carter of Lake City; a son, James L. Odom of Wakulla; a brother, Joe King of Clever; and three grandchildren.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Hospice of North Central Florida or to the First United Methodist Church.
Albert M. Quarles
Albert M. Quarles died Monday at his Gainesville residence. He was 89.
Mr. Quarles was born in Mound City, Ill., and moved to Gainesville from Chicago in 1995.
He was retired from the hotel business.
He was a Methodist.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Quarles.
Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Q. Hardy of Archer; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John Oakley Roenbeck Jr.
OLD TOWN -- John Oakley Roenbeck Jr. of Old Town died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 52.
Mr. Roenbeck was born in New York and moved to Old Town from West Palm Beach 17 years ago.
He was a retired firefighter. He served in the U.S. Army Special Services as a sharp shooter during the Vietnam War. He remained in the Civil Service until 1970.
He was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Roenbeck of Old Town; a daughter, Teresa Lynn Cummings of Cross City; two stepdaughters, Sherry Gray of Lake Mary and Diana Johnson of Royal Palm Beach; three stepsons, George Smith of Coral Springs, Shayne Smith of Marshall, N.C. and Kevin Smith of Old Town; three sisters, Marleen Coker of Lantana, Jane Harden of Lake Worth and Diane Nash of Clearwater; a brother, Tom Roenbeck of Lake Worth; and nine grandchildren.
