Esther Mae Green Daniels
Esther Mae Green Daniels of Gainesville died Jan. 6 at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. She was 88.
Mrs. Daniels was a retired cottage supervisor for Sunland Training Center, now Tacachale.
She was born in Hague and moved to Gainesville 50 years ago.
Mrs. Daniels was a member of the Deaconess Board, the Senior Mission Society, the L.C. Gamble Circle, the Chancel, the choir, the Faith Walker Sunday school class and the Powerful Elders Organization, all at the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Alachua County Ministers Wives and Widows Association and the Palmer King Day Care Board of Directors.
Survivors include two daughters, Luewilla B. Perry and Shirley G. Cannon, both of Gainesville; a son, Larry Hill of Gainesville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Dewey Clifford Dougherty Sr.
STARKE - Dewey Clifford Dougherty Sr. of Starke died Saturday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City after a long illness. He was 60.
Mr. Dougherty was a former truck driver. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was born in Bartow and moved from Winter Haven to Starke 18 years ago.
Mr. Dougherty was a Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife, Belinda Louise Hemphill Dougherty of Starke; three daughters, Evie Rodriguez of Keystone Heights and Tammy Garber and Traci Pearl, both of Starke; three sons, Dewey Embry Dougherty of Starke, Dewey C. Dougherty Jr. of Tampa and Rocky Windham of Pensacola; and seven grandchildren.
Leola Duncan Ferguson
Leola Duncan Ferguson of Gainesville died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness. She was 101.
Mrs. Ferguson was a homemaker.
She was born in Micanopy and moved from Wilmington, N.C., to Gainesville three years ago.
Mrs. Ferguson was a member of the Saint Luke A.M.E. Church and a former member of the Lily White Circle.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise F. Davis of Gainesville; three sons, Haywood Ferguson Jr. of Sarasota, Jimmy Ferguson and Albert A.C. Ferguson, both of Gainesville; 28 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Doris Young Hyatt
Doris Young Hyatt of Gainesville died Wednesday at Shands at AGH after a long illness. She was 83.
Mrs. Hyatt was a retired librarian for the University of Florida. She also served in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II.
Born in Atlanta, she moved from Valdosta, Ga., to Gainesville 60 years ago. She received her bachelor's degree in French from Valdosta State University and a bachelor's degree in library science from the George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University.
Mrs. Hyatt was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville, where she volunteered at the library and was a member of the Mary Martha Sunday school class and the senior choir. She also was a member of the Alachua County Historical Society and the Gator Country WAVES.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Hyatt Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen A. Hyatt of Gainesville; a son, Robert P. Hyatt of Gainesville; and two grandchildren, Christina Townsend of Starke and Jeremy P. Hyatt of Gainesville.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the First Baptist Church of Gainesville or to the Valdosta State University Foundation in Valdosta.
Ethel Sache Kidwell
YULEE - Ethel Sache Kidwell of Yulee died Monday at her daughter's home in Yulee. She was 83.
Mrs. Kidwell was a homemaker and a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
She was born and raised in Chiefland and briefly lived in Chiefland again four years ago before moving from Brandon to Yulee six months ago.
Survivors include two sons, Lester Braden Jr. of Callahan and John Braden of St. Petersburg; five daughters, Ethelyn Hanley of Phoenix, Ariz., Joan Johns of Salt Springs, Carol Freeman of Yulee, Linda Smeaton of Riverview and Sandra Braden of Gainesville; two sisters, Roma Bailey of Albuquerque, N.M., and Joyce Faircloth of Chiefland; 24 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Ralph Eugene Kitchens
Ralph Eugene Kitchens of Douglas, Ga., died Dec. 26 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas after a long illness. He was 60.
Mr. Kitchens was formerly employed by 3M.
He was born in Coffee County, Ga., and lived in Gainesville for more than 25 years before moving to Douglas two years ago.
Survivors include his mother, Vestal Ellis Kitchens of Douglas.
Vivian M. George Lundy
ALACHUA - Vivian M. George Lundy of Alachua died Sunday at her home after a long illness. She was 84.
Mrs. Lundy was a homemaker.
She was born in Valdosta, Ga., and moved from Valdosta to Alachua 64 years ago.
Mrs. Lundy was a member of the Westside Church of God In Christ, where she was a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, church secretary, choir member and missionary.
Survivors include four sons, Chester B. Lundy and William H. Lundy, both of Alachua, and Charlie L. Lundy and Harry L. Lundy, both of Gainesville; four daughters, Helen Lundy Tyson and Vivian J. Moorer-Holsey, both of Alachua, Linda Lundy of Jacksonville and Gwendolyn P.A. Davis of Gainesville; a sister, Ruby Newkirk of Daytona Beach; 23 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Albert Fenton Masterhan
CROSS CITY - Albert Fenton Masterhan of Cross City died Monday at his caregiver's home in Cross City. He was 92.
Mr. Masterhan owned and operated grocery stores.
He was born in Central City, Iowa, and moved from Iowa to Cross City 16 years ago.
Survivors include two sisters, Doris King of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Delva Schultz of Fairmont, Minn.; and his caregiver, Marie Sanchez of Cross City.
Reinard M. McCray
TALLAHASSEE - Reinard M. McCray of Tallahassee died Tuesday at his home. He was 30.
Mr. McCray was a corrections officer. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was born in Ocala and lived in Gainesville before moving to Tallahassee more than five years ago.
Mr. McCray was a member of the Masons and the Faith Baptist Church.
He graduated from Eastside High School and received his Associate of Arts from Keiser College in Tallahassee.
Survivors include a son; his mother, Ola Pearl Hill of Gainesville; his father and stepmother, Sampson and Betty McCray of Gainesville; three sisters, Tara McCray, Sharon McCray and Samantha McCray, all of Gainesville; three brothers, including Navares C. Mosley of Gainesville; and his maternal grandmother.
Emma Lee Munnerlyn
HAWTHORNE - Emma Lee Munnerlyn of Hawthorne died Sunday Putnam Memorial Hospital in Palatka after a brief illness. She was 52.
Mrs. Munnerlyn was a retired school behavioral program assistant in Macon, Ga.
She was born in Macon, Ga., and moved to Hawthorne 35 years ago.
Mrs. Munnerlyn was a member of the Gordon Chapel Community Church in Hawthorne.
Survivors include her husband, Elton L. Munnerlyn of Hawthorne; five daughters, Makeda Bryant and Burnadette Munnerlyn, both of Gainesville, Regina Bryant of Augusta, Ga., Magina Bryant Harris of Camden, N.J., and Tamara Munnerlyn of Keystone Heights; a son, Kenyatta Bryant of Camden; six sisters, Veria Harris and Carolyn Simmons, both of Cincinnati, Lansice Miller of New Jersey, Alberta Rouse of Gainesville and Peggy J. Butt and Barbara J. Ballard, both of Macon; six brothers, Cleveland Shinholster, John K. Shinholster and McClure Shinholster, all of Macon, Darnell Shinholster and Larry Shinholster, both of Detroit, and Harold Shinholster of Atlanta; and five grandchildren.
Johnny Lee Richardson Sr.
CROSS CITY - Johnny Lee Richardson Sr. of Cross City died Jan. 7 in Trenton after a long illness. He was 59.
Mr. Richardson was a retired truck driver.
He was born in Hague and moved to Cross City 25 years ago.
Mr. Richardson was a member of the Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Richardson of Cross City; seven daughters, Marylyn Granger of Gainesville, Debra Richardson and Linda McHenry, both of Chiefland, Tina Hall and Winnie Richardson, both of Tampa, and Suwania Lee and Katrina Smith, both of Cross City; a sister, Louise Perry of Chiefland; a brother, Ernest Richardson of Winter Springs; 20 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Robert Lee Ridgeway
TRENTON - Robert Lee Ridgeway of Trenton died Wednesday at the Tri-County Nursing Home in Trenton. He was 91.
Mr. Ridgeway was retired from the Florida Department of Transportation.
He was born in Wilcox and moved from Jacksonville to Trenton 18 years ago.
Mr. Ridgeway was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Lucille Ridgeway.
Survivors include his wife, Lovie Cozene Gainey Ridgeway of Trenton; four daughters, Thelma Ridgeway Cloer of McHenry, Miss., Blonnie Knaggs of Warner Robins, Ga., Dorothy Oaks of Hammond, La., and Betty Crawford of Brandon; four sons, Maxie Ridgeway and Donald Ridgeway, both of Navarre, and Jimmy Ridgeway and Thomas Ridgeway, both of Trenton; a brother, Gordon Ridgeway of Trenton; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
