Gloria Russo

JULY 3, 1925 -- JUNE 14, 2004

DELTONA -- Gloria Grosch Russo, 78, of Fountainhead Drive, a native of New Orleans, died Monday at Orange City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, DeBary.

Ms. Russo, a homemaker, moved to this area in 1992 from Metairie, La.

Survivors include a son, Lamar Ard, Waggaman, La.; two daughters, Annette Valois, Deltona, and Gisele Tumbagahan, Metairie; a brother, Jerry Grosch, Terrytown, La.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Minniebelle Servoss

JUNE 5, 1913 -- JUNE 14, 2004

UMATILLA -- Minniebelle Servoss, 91, of Umatilla, the mother of DeLand resident, D. Gene Servoss, died Monday at Florida Hospital-Waterman, Tavares.

Mrs. Servoss, a high school secretary, was born in Evart, Mich., and moved to Umatilla in 1952 from Corunna, Mich. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist and Outdoor Club.

Additional survivors include two sons, Ronald, Sylva, N.C., and Larry, Greenville, Tenn.; a brother, Eugene Staats, Evart; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Beyers Funeral Home is in charge.

Blanche Shallow

DEC. 6, 1924 -- JUNE 11, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Blanche D. Shallow, 79, of Spruce Creek Boulevard, a registered nurse who retired as an emergency room supervisor, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Shallow was born in Littleton, N.H., and moved here in 1987 from Weymouth, Mass. She received her nursing degree from Mary Hitchcock Hospital, Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Daytona Beach, she enjoyed golf, traveling and reading.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Robert; two sons, Mike, Daytona Beach, and James, Pawtucket, R.I.; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 University Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32118. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Jesse Adkins

JAN. 15, 1940 -- JUNE 13, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Jesse Thomas Adkins, 64, of Big Tree Road, who retired from the U.S. Navy, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Adkins, a native of Beckley, W.Va., came to this area a month ago from Ormond Beach. He also was a former resident of Seville. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Adkins was a member of American Legion Post 267 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3282.

Survivors include a son, Daniel, Scarbro, W.Va.; three daughters, Donna Wilson, South Daytona, Sharon Gutierrez, Port Orange, and Deanna Hulvey, Daytona Beach; a sister, Dreama Lyons, Shady Springs, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Ira Calhoun

DEC. 3, 1943 -- JUNE 14, 2004

PALM COAST -- Ira Rodgers Calhoun, 60, of Zodiac Place, who owned and operated Rodger's Pump and Sprinkler, Daytona Beach, died Monday at home.

Mr. Calhoun, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was a native and lifelong resident of the area. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, stock car racing and motorcycles.

Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Gerberman, Palm Coast, and Tammy Reuter, Ormond Beach; his mother, Lula Mae Calhoun, Vero Beach; two brothers, Charles, Wisconsin, and Butch, Vero Beach; a sister, Sabarah Harrington, Vero Beach; and two grandchildren. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Joseph Chiarelli

APRIL 30, 1917 -- JUNE 12, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Joseph Chiarelli, 87, of Spring Drive, who owned a sewing machine and vacuum cleaner business in Wallingford, Conn., died Saturday at home.

Mr. Chiarelli, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in New York City and moved here in 1989 from Wallingford. He also worked in real estate sales before he retired.

Survivors include a cousin, Eva Giglio, Ocala, and John Meekins, Daytona Beach, who both provided for his care. ICS Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Charles Edwards

JUNE 27, 1944 -- JUNE 13, 2004

DELTONA -- Charles Stanley Edwards, 59, of Holly Hock Street, a brick mason, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.

Mr. Edwards, an Army veteran, was born in Washington, D.C., and came to this area in 1970 from Indiana. He was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite and Shriners.

Survivors include two daughters, Lauren and Nina, both of Orange City. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Harold Jones

JULY 1, 1928 -- JUNE 14, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Harold F. Jones, 75, of Vista Palm Drive, a cabinet maker who retired from Cicero Sash and Door Co., Cicero, Ill., died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Jones was born in Davenport, Iowa, and moved here from Cicero in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Hal, Edgewater; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

David Long

JULY 17, 1954 -- JUNE 13, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- David Earl Long, 44, of Congress Avenue, a construction worker, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mr. Long, a Navy veteran, moved here in 1994 from Birmingham, Ala., his birthplace. He was a member of Calvary Christian Church, Ormond Beach.

Survivors include his companion, Emma Jean McDonald, Daytona Beach; a son David Jr.; and a brother, Eugene. Thompson is in charge.

Daniel MacKinnon

OCT. 18, 1918 -- JUNE 13, 2004

DELTONA -- Daniel Malcolm MacKinnon, 85, of Baton Drive, a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, died Sunday at home.

Mr. MacKinnon, a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, was born in Boston and moved here in 2002 from Midland, Mich. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, DeBary, and American Legion. Mr. MacKinnon enjoyed listening to old music.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marguerite; a son, Robert, Westland, Mich.; two daughters, Nancy Wilson, Deltona, and Carol Nocito, Sanford; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Carl Mofield

NOV. 5, 1931 -- JUNE 10, 2004

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- Carl Mofield, 72, of San Rafael, a resident of Daytona Beach from 1936 to 1949, died Thursday at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco.

Mr. Mofield, an Air Force veteran, was born in Kentucky and moved here from Livingston, Tenn. He worked for the State of California Insurance Division before he retired this year. A 1949 graduate of Mainland High School, Mr. Mofield attended Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, Texas, and was a graduate of Florida State University, Tallahassee. He was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and was a director and member of Northern California Sports Car Club of America.

No known immediate relatives survive. Russell & Gooch Funeral Home, Mill Valley, Calif., is in charge.

William Musolino

DEC. 20, 1909 -- JUNE 12, 2004

MAITLAND -- William Musolino, 94, of Maitland, a former Deltona resident, died Saturday at The Palms at Maitland, an assisted living facility.

Mr. Musolino was born in Fairfield, Conn., and moved to Deltona in 1973 and recently moved to Maitland. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community, Sons of Italy, Mike Accardi Lodge, and the New York Club, all of Deltona. Mr. Musolino enjoyed painting and dancing.

Survivors include a son, Ronald, Middleton, Wis.; a daughter, Kathleen Aiello, Altamonte Springs; and five grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

John Oakley

DEC. 27, 1921 -- JUNE 12, 2004

DELEON SPRINGS -- John W. Oakley, 82, of Fox Hollow Road, an officer with the Miami Fire Department for 19 years before retiring, died Saturday at home.

Born in Montreal, Mr. Oakley, an Army veteran of World War II, moved here in 1980 from Miami. He was a member of the Masons, Florida Hospital-DeLand Auxiliary and the Miami and Dade County Fire Officers associations.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Phyllis; two sons, James, St. Petersburg, and John, Tampa; a daughter, Jerri Waller, DeLand; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.
