NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Fritz Hohenstein, 67, of Roberts Street, a commercial fisherman, died Friday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Born in New Smyrna Beach, Mr. Hohenstein, an Army veteran, was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion and the Dolphin Athletic Club.

Survivors include his wife, Becky; two brothers, Tony, New Smyrna Beach, and Bill, Florida; and a sister, Ann Detloff, New Smyrna Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129; or to the Christian Life Center, 350 Mission Dr., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. Doris Holtmeyer

SEPT. 17, 1916 -- AUG. 12, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Doris Skinner Holtmeyer, 87, of Elsie Avenue, a resident of this area since 1923, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Holtmeyer, a homemaker, moved to this area from her native Caterhim, England. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. An avid Atlanta Braves fan, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing and garage sales.

Survivors include a son, Gerard, Daytona Beach; a daughter, Barbara Forsberg, Ormond Beach; a sister, Mildred "Joyce" Guthrie, Holly Hill; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 319, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Joseph Mahon

JAN. 10, 1918 -- AUG. 13, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Joseph E. Mahon, 86, of Poinciana Avenue, who retired as a self employed coal retailer, died Friday at Hospice Care Center.

Mr. Mahon, a Navy veteran , came to this area in 1976 from his birthplace, Shamokin, Pa. He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Clara; a stepson, Michael Amato, Shamokin; three daughters, Patricia Brennan, Norfolk, Va., Barbara Knarr, North Hampton, Pa., and Debbie Hayes, Portsmouth, Va.; a sister, Agnes Zyla, Shamokin; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Shannon is in charge.

Elizabeth Nolan

NOV. 17, 1927 -- AUG. 13, 2004

ORMOND-BY-THE-SEA -- Elizabeth A. Nolan, 76, of Longwood Drive, a retired telephone operator, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Nolan was born in Hartford, Conn., and moved to this area in 1988 from Waterbury, Conn. She was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Aerie 3800, Ormond Beach, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She enjoyed bingo and crafts.

Survivors include a son, James Jr., Ormond Beach; a daughter, Linda Dinerman, New Providence, N.J.; and four grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Florence Opara

SEPT. 25, 1919 -- AUG. 11, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Florence Opara, 84, a resident since 1997, died Wednesday at Olds Hall-Good Samaritan Center.

Mrs. Opara, a homemaker, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved here from Deer Park, N.Y. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Mrs. Opara enjoyed shopping, cooking and reading.

Survivors include a son, Steven, Ormond Beach; two daughters, Christine Kerry and Lorraine Corkran, both of Palm Coast; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 111 N. Frederick Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Palm Coast Funeral Home, Palm Coast, is in charge.

William Ossmer

NOV. 4, 1925 -- AUG. 12, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- William T. Ossmer, 78, of South Peninsula Drive, an agent for Prudential Insurance Co., died Thursday at home.

Mr. Ossmer was born in Petosky, Mich., and moved here in 1985 from Orange Park. An Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Bronze Arrowhead, Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three stars, two overseas bars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife, Flo; four sons, Patrick, Ormond Beach, William III and Stephen, both of St. Augustine, and Michael, College Park; a daughter, Marjorie Hughes, Ponte Vedra; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Leland Raymaley Jr.

DEC. 29, 1929 -- AUG. 12, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Leland Chalmers "Chal" Raymaley Jr., 74, of Clubhouse Boulevard, who owned and operated LCR Inc. Landfill and Raymaley Hauling, died Thursday at home.

Mr. Raymaley was born in Irwin, Pa., and came to this area from Pittsburgh. He was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church, Sugar Mill Country Club and Kairos Prison Ministry. An avid golfer, Mr. Raymaley enjoyed helping others, hunting, fishing, sunsets and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Lee; a son, Leland III, Ligonier, Pa.; two daughters, Shelley Iorio and Lissa Raymaley, both of New Smyrna Beach; five sisters, Constance Ventura, Greensburg, Pa., Elinor Carey, Latrobe, Pa., Shirley Remaley, Santa Cruz, Calif., Gracie Zimmerman, Salem, Ohio, and Maggie Morris, Delmont, Pa.; and 13 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Glencoe Baptist Church, 196 N. Glencoe Road, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

Jane Reed

JULY 26, 1925 -- AUG, 11, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Jane M. Reed, 79, of Sutton Circle, a retired publishers assistant with the Ithaca (NY) Journal, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center.

Ms. Reed moved to this area in 1997 from her native Ithaca.

No known immediate relatives survive. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Frank Shoup

FEB. 5, 1924 -- AUG. 11, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Frank D. Shoup, 80, of George Hecker Drive, a former professional roller skating teacher, died Wednesday at Port Orange Health and Rehabilitation Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Shoup was born in Washington, Pa., and moved to this area in 1994 from Canonsburg, Pa. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2723, the Society of Roller Skating Teachers and the Roller Skating Rink Operators of America. Mr. Shoup, who taught numerous national skating champions, was the former owner of several roller skating centers throughout Pennsylvania.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Janet; a daughter, Linda Miner, Donora, Pa.; a brother, Melvin, Washington; two grandchildren; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the Harry-Anna Trust, co Port Orange Elks Lodge 2723, P.O. Box 290879, Port Orange, FL 32129-0879. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.

Salvio Theus

OCT. 12, 1923 -- AUG. 12, 2004

DELAND -- Salvio A. Theus, 80, of West Armstrong, who retired as a director of physical therapy at the former Fish Memorial Hospital, died Thursday at Alliance Community Center for Health Care.

Mr. Theus was born in Cuba, and came to this area in 1983 from Miami.

Survivors include a cousin, Luis Moyano, Auburndale, who provided for his care. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Darryl Tomaka

FEB. 11, 1961 -- AUG. 10, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Darryl T. Tomaka, 43, of Russett Lane, a former route salesman for Budweiser, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Nova Road and Eighth Street in Holly Hill.

Mr. Tomaka moved here in 1997 from his native Buffalo, N.Y. A member of H.O.G. Club, Daytona Beach, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Mr. Tomaka also enjoyed animals.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Adrienne; two sons, Andrew Podsiadlo, Port Orange, and Charles Cannon, Ormond Beach; a daughter, Jessica Cannon, and his father, Benny, both of Port Orange; his mother, Mary Tomaka, and a sister, Deborah Napieracz, both of Buffalo. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Rudolph Willis

MAY 2, 1939 -- AUG. 10, 2004

JACKSONVILLE -- Rudolph "Popcorn" Willis, 65, of Jacksonville, a native of Daytona Beach, died Tuesday at Shands Hospital, Jacksonville.

Mr. Willis moved to Jacksonville in the 1980's and retired as a school bus contractor for Duval County School Board. He was a graduate of the former Campbell Street High School where he played football. He also was a graduate of and Edwaters College and Tennessee A&M University, where he also played football and was a member of Omega and Q-Dog fraternities. Mr. Willis was a member and deacon of at Phillippian Community Church. He enjoyed coaching football and baseball.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Gail; three daughters, Charlette Willis, Daytona Beach, and Kendra and Judy Willis, both of Jacksonville; two brothers, Ulyesses Guyton Jr., Alexander, Texas, and Cecil Guyton, Jacksonville; five sisters, Lorraine Curry and Lucretia Kouassi, both of New Smyrna Beach, Ruby Willis and Juanita Guyton, both of Daytona Beach, and Letitia Toure, Orlando; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Phillippian Community Church, 7578 New Kings Road, Jacksonville, FL 32208. Brown-Green-Fralin Funeral Directors Inc., Jacksonville, is in charge.

Clyde Wright

SEPT 22, 1911 -- AUG. 12, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Clyde Lester Wright, 92, of Turtle Mound Road, the former chief of police for Coronado Beach, died Thursday at Hospice of Volusia Flagler, Port Orange.

Mr. Wright, a graduate of Oglethorp University, Atlanta, was a native of Oak Hill. He was also the former co-owner of Wright and Ford Millworks. He was a member of the New Smyrna Beach Elks Club and the Membry Hunting Club, Oak Hill. Having won many fishing tournament, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Wright also won boat races on the Indian River in the 1940s from New Smyrna Beach to St. Augustine.

Survivors include a son, Clyde Jr., and a daughter, Sally Bayles, both of New Smyrna Beach; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Canaveral, P.O. Box 1526, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32170, or to the New Smyrna Beach Community and Alumni Providing Scholarships, P.O.
