Robert Klein

FEB. 19, 1938 -- FEB. 18, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Robert Alvin Klein, 66, of Forough Circle, an Air Force captain who retired after 22 years of service, died Friday at Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs.

Mr. Klein was born in Port Jefferson, N.Y., and moved here in 2004 from Aurora, Colo. He earned a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University and a master's degree from Texas A&M University. An avid reader, Mr. Klein also enjoyed bird watching and golf.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Karen; a son, Robert, Aurora; and a brother, John, Pennsylvania. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Florida, P.O. Box 549, Daytona Beach, FL 32115. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Elizabeth McWilliams

SEPT. 3, 1921 -- FEB. 18, 2005

BUNNELL -- Elizabeth C. "Betty" McWilliams, 83, of North Anderson Street, a native of Kilbirnie, Scotland, died Friday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Ms. McWilliams, a former cashier at K-Mart, moved to this area from Boynton Beach in 2001. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting and knitting.

Survivors include a sister, Ann Preloh, Bunnell. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Charles Petersen

DEC. 8, 1933 -- FEB. 19, 2005

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Charles Vernon "Chuck" Petersen, 71, of South Ridgewood Avenue, the owner of a heating and air conditioning service, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Petersen, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and moved here from San Diego in 1966. A sonar man with the U.S. Submariner Veterans, Buffalo Base, he also was a member of American Legion Post 361 and the AMVETS Post 911, Port Orange.

Survivors include two daughters, Terri DiGiacomo, South Daytona, and Shelly Decker, Deltona; and five grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post 361, 2648 S. Ridgewood Ave., South Daytona, FL 32119. Shannon Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.

Isaiah Russell

OCT. 1, 2004 -- FEB. 19, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Isaiah Russell, the four-month old son of John Russell and Vanessa Melendez, of Sheridan Road, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center.

Baby Isaiah was born in Orlando.

Additional survivors include three brothers, Sean Newton, and Trey and Bi'Jion Russell, a sister, Ali'Jea Russell, and his paternal grandparents, Melvin Russell and Patricia Murphy, all of Daytona Beach; and his maternal grandparents, Juan Roman and Elizabeth Ortiz, both of Minneola. Gainous is in charge.

Theodore Sampson

AUG. 5, 1933 -- FEB. 19, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Theodore Sampson, 71, of Emma Street, a retired brick mason, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Sampson moved here in 1956 from his birthplace, Camilla, Ga. He was a member of Mount Mission Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Viola; two sons, Donnie Sampson, Daytona Beach, and Vernard Green, Miami; a daughter, Coretta Murphy, Bridgeport, Conn.; a brother, Henry, Orlando; and three grandchildren. Gainous is in charge.

Clarence Tepe

AUG. 10, 1923 -- FEB. 19, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Clarence H. Tepe, 81, of Sleepy Hollow Drive, a retired truck driver, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Tepe was born in Elmont, N.Y., and moved here in 1991 from West Babylon, N.Y. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Laura Tepe and Lisa Cintron, both of Port Orange; two brothers, Joseph and Andrew, both of Valley Stream, N.Y.; three sisters, Florence Ford, Palm Beach Gardens, Ann Ruebner, Levittown, N.Y., and Regina Karp, West Babylon; and a grandson. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Central Region, 125 S. Swoope Ave., Suite 107, Maitland, FL 32751. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Garrett Ziegenfelder

JAN. 4, 1936 -- FEB. 19, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Garrett M. Ziegenfelder, 69, of South St. Andrews Drive, a retired Nassau (NY) County detective, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Ziegenfelder, an Air Force veteran, was born in Schenectady, N.Y., and moved here in 1995 from Massapequa, N.Y. He was a graduate of Hofstra University. Mr. Ziegenfelder was a member of the Moose Club and enjoyed golf, fishing and boating.

Survivors include his fiancee, Jacqueline Cooney; two daughters, Lisa Newkirk, Modena, N.Y., and Susan Oldrey, Elmont, N.Y.; a brother, Rush, Tacoma, Wash.; and two grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Peter Auerbach

DEC. 22, 1920 -- FEB. 27, 2005

HOLLY HILL -- Peter B. Auerbach, 84, of Glen Way, who retired as a director of planning for the United Way for the state of North Carolina, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Auerbach was born in New York City and moved here in 1985 from Charlotte, N.C. He formerly worked for United Way in seven different states. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Rotary of Palm Coast, the Power Squadron and the Palm Coast Yacht Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Triplett, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Wendy Auerbach, Dallas; and a sister, Joan Dumont, Orono, Maine. Memorial donations may be made to the United Way of Volusia, 3747 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32114; or to a charity of one's choice. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Dottie Broomall

MARCH 19, 1924 -- FEB. 28, 2005

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Dottie L. Broomall, 80, of South Segrave Street, who formerly owned Dottie's Beauty Salon, died Monday at home.

Ms. Broomall was born in Quakertown, Pa., and came to this area in 1956 from Mentor, Ohio. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1590, Port Orange Eagles 4089, the American Legion 270 and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and trips to Biloxi, Miss.

Survivors include her companion, Ed Why; a son, Robert; a daughter, Donna Sheppard, Ormond Beach; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Janice Cosentino

OCT. 21, 1930 -- FEB. 28, 2005

EDGEWATER -- Janice E. Cosentino, 74, of Travelers Palm Drive, a resident since 1993, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Ms. Cosentino, a homemaker, was born in McVeigh, Ky., and moved here from Elyria, Ohio. She enjoyed collecting dolls.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Frankie; five sons, Gregory, Jacksonville, Frankie Jr., Elyria, John, Avon Lake, Ohio, Gary, Oberlin, Ohio, and Mark, North Ridgeville, Ohio; two daughters, Catherine Lingruen, Edgewater, and Karen Slaghter, Osteen; four brothers, Albert Smith, Edgewater, Burl Smith, Oak Hill, Daryell Smith, Grantsville, W.Va., and Michael Smith, North Ridgeville; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

Eileen Daehler

JULY 17, 1925 -- FEB. 28, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Eileen C. Daehler, 79, of Marvin Road, a part-time librarian at Daytona Beach Community College, died Monday at home.

Mrs. Daehler was born in Chicago and moved to this area in 1963 from Redwood City, Calif. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Daytona Beach. She earned a master's degree in library science from Rosary College and a master's degree in sacred theology from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Ind.

Survivors include her husband 47 years, Russell; and a daughter, Dawn Daehler, Ormond Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 University Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32118. Lohman-Ormond is in charge.

Rose Etayo

SEPT. 4, 1948 -- FEB. 23, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Rose Etayo, 56, of Saxon Drive, who formerly owned Second Generation Appliance, Edgewater, died Wednesday at home.

Born in Winten, Austria, Mrs. Etayo, a homemaker, moved here in 1988 from Fort Lauderdale. She enjoyed cooking and shopping.

Survivors include two sons, Jason, New Smyrna Beach, and Eric, Orlando; her mother, Julianna Pree, and two sisters, Charlotte Pree and Maria Anenger, all of Austria; and three grandchildren. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Thelma Hammock

JUNE 26, 1912 - FEB. 28, 2005

DELTONA -- Thelma Alice Hammock, 92, of Saxon Boulevard, a native of Narcoossee, died Monday at home.

Mrs. Hammock, a homemaker, moved to this area in 1990 from Apopka. She enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Husted, Ocoee, Wilber Husted, Hendersonville, N.C., and Raymond Linton, Buford, Ga.; three daughters, Maryann Swift, Deltona, Nell Miller, Independence, Ky., and Wilma McCollough, Orlando; 56 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
