YOUNG, Thomas J., 54, of Tampa, passed away October 2. He is survived by his wife, Libby Owen Young; son, Jeff, and wife, Kristina; daughter, Susan MacGregor; stepson, Jason Johnson; stepdaugher, Amy Johnson; mother, Dorothy A. Young; brothers, Kenneth and Ernie; and two grandchildren, Macey and Greyson. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy K. Young. He moved here in 1958 from Miami, and graduated from Robinson H.S. in 1968. He spent 20 years in automotive sales and management in the Tampa area. He was semi-retired and worked for the Plantation Homeowners Association. Tom deeply loved his family, playing tennis, coaching soccer, watching Bucs and USF football, and celebrating life. He will be greatly missed.

EXTER, Mort M. `Woody`, 76, of Tampa Palms, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; sons, Alan and Jeffrey; and three grandchildren. Born in New York City, he served in the US Navy from 1943-1946 and spent his career in the lumber business in New York and Florida. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at C.E. Prevatt Funeral Home, 9750 N. 56 St., Temple Terrace. FESPERMAN, Mildred Huhn, 76, of Brandon passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002. She is survived by her husband, James Cicero Fesperman, Sr. of Brandon; three sons, James Cicero Fesperman, Jr. and wife Teena, Knoxville, Tenn., Dennis Franklyn Fesperman and wife, Priscilla, Pompano Beach, Fla., Thomas Avery Fesperman and wife, Robin, Brandon, Fla.; daughter, Pamela Fesperman Mathews and husband, James, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; sister, Frances Huhn Deaner, St. Clair Shores, Mich.; niece, Bridget Deaner Pikarski, St Clair Shores, Mich.; six grandchildren, Jim III, Jennifer, Aspen, Sierra, Deborah, Missy; two great-grandchildren, Hunter, and Katelyn. She came to Brandon from Jacksonville in 1964. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She held a private pilots license and loved to fly. A past president of the Inner Wheel and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, 10 a.m. at Stowers Brandon Chapel with Dr. A. Wells officiating.

LYLE, Harry A., 87 of Lutz passed away Thursday, October 3, 2002. He is survived by his brother, John T. Lyle and wife Alice; sister-in-law, Helen C. Lyle; three nieces, Judy Sanchez, Linda Brinkerhoff and Jamie Nelson; and two nephews, Scott Lyle and Bryant Lyle. He was Past Master Fellowship Lodge #265 F&AM, a member of the Tampa Consistory Scottish Rite, a member of American Legion Post #0334, Tampa, past President of the Tampa Chapter of the American Kennel Club and a member of the Tampa Humane Society. A Masonic Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park with Fellowship Lodge #265 F&AM officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Humane Society in his memory.

MEDEROS, A. Felicia, age 100 of Tampa, passed away October 5, 2002. A native of St. Nicolas, Cuba and resident of Tampa for the past 60 years, Mrs. Mederos was preceded in death by her husband, Estanislao Mederos; and son, Nilo Mederos and is survived by her children, Dora Diaz, Raul Mederos, Gloria Goins and Elaine Kennedy; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock from the chapel of Gonzalez Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice Pearl Team, 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa, FL 33609, in her memory. RAY, Russell M., 78, USAF M/Sgt. (Retired), went to rest with the Lord on October 2, 2002 after a four year battle with cancer. He retired in 1970 from the USAF after serving 26 years in the Accounting and Finance career field. Mr. Ray was an Ex-POW in Germany during World War II and served as a Ball Turret Gunner on the B-17 aircraft. After retirement, he worked as a manager for Zayre Corporation for an additional 20 years. Mr. Ray devoted most of his time helping family and friends while serving as a Life Time Deacon at the Palma Ceia Baptist Church. Russell is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ray; a son, Ronald Ray; a daughter, Brenda Moody; two grandchildren, Amberlea and Janel Moody; and a sister, Helen Rodgers of Soddy Daisy, Tenn. Richard Voelcker and Jason Rowland were also a significant part of his life. MacDill AFB military and Honors Team will conduct a Full military Honor Ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. RICHARDS, Frank H., 87, of Tampa passed away October 4, 2002. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee; son, Lee Richards; daughter, Dr. Roxanne Richards; sister, Helen Flack; four grandchildren, Lisa Bond, Christy Richards, Jonathan Rizzotto, and Chrissy Rizzotto; and two great-grandsons. Mr. Richards was retired as a printer at the Tampa Tribune and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was also an active member of the Eastside Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Chapel with Pastor Buddy Stott officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survived by two brothers, Russell, Tampa, Barney, St. Augustine; five sisters, Mae, Charleston, S.C. , Ophelia Jo, Walton, Ky., Alice, Hamilton, Ohio, Georgetta, Richmond, Ky., and Evelyn, Atlanta, Ga. ROSS, Richard `Dick`, 77, was born in Detroit, Michigan, and passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 in Tampa, Fla. He moved to Tampa from Durham, N.C. 25 years ago. He was a greatly sought after construction and painting contractor for many years. He was a member and past president of Civitan International, and was an active member of the Forest Hills United Methodist Church, and a Stephen minister. He was an honorable principled man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Richard is survived by his wife, Melba; three daughters, Ellen and husband, Mike Stevenson of California., Vicky and husband, Flannagan of Jacksonville, Fla., Laura and husband, Dane Skagen of Penn. He had two sons, Jeffrey and wife, Karen of Calif., Christopher and wife, Nancy of Calif.; sister, Patricia Kimberly of Hawaii. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. There are two stepdaughters, Carolyn and husband, Bill McCord of Ill., Victoria and husband, Jim Fernandez, of Tampa. Fla. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Forest Hills United Methodist Church 904 W. Linebaugh Ave., Tampa. STEPHENS, Thomas D., 74, of Dade City, Fla., a life long native of Florida, went to rest with the Lord October 4, 2002. Survivors include his wife, Jeannine; sister, Katherine; daughter, Debby; sons, Tim and Matt; daughter-in-law, Diane; grandchildren, Jennifer, Audra, Steven, Adam, Levi, Hannah and Sage; and great-grandchild, Haley. His Tampa roots led him to Tampa Electric Company, where he was faithfully employed for 45 years. He began Stephens and Sons House Movers in 1970. In his retirement he served the University of South Florida for seven years until his illness. He loved the Lord and attended Calvary Assembly Church in Dade City. Come celebrate his life with the family, one hour prior to the service. Service time will be at 2:00 p.m. at Lowry Park Community Church, 919 W. Kirby, north of Sligh and west off of N. Boulevard. Graveside service will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. For those who knew him, watching the Florida Gators will never be the same.

TANNER, Ruth, Lakeland, age 76, died Oct. 1, 2002. Born Nov. 4, 1925 in Geneva County, Ga. She is survived by one son; four sisters; and two grandchildren.

TORRES, Antonia, 79, of Tampa passed away October 2, 2002. Survivors include her son, Emil Torres of Bushnell; and her sister, Maria Marrero of Miami. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, October 7, 2002, from 3-5:00 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Avenue.

WAITS, Ruth J., of Tampa, Florida entered into heavenly rest on October 4, 2002. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia June 14, 1914 and moved to Tampa in 1944. Mrs. Waits worked in the Business Division of the School District of Hillsborough County for 28 years before retiring in 1979. She also taught bible classes for many years at Tampa Baptist Church. She was devoted to her family, church, and friends. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and gardening. Mrs. Waits was predeceased by J. Claude Waits, her husband of 59 years; his daughters Vivian Atkinson and Juanita Archer; and granddaughter; Linda McLeod. Survivors are daughter, Claudia Stephens and husband Kenneth; and their children, Ken Stephens, wife Kathy; and their son, Tyler, Gina Stephens Leavens and husband, Bob, all of Tampa; Mr. Waits daughter, Lucille Caldwell, Orlando, and her children; Gina, Jerry, and James Caldwell, and Cindy McAllister and their families; children of Juanita Archer; Carl Archer, Maribeth Allen, Ruth Archer, and their families; sister, Thelma Morgan; and brother, Jim Jones, both of Rockmart, Georgia; brother, Bob Jones of Chula Vista, California; and many nieces and nephews. The f amily gives special thanks to caregiver, Linda Allen. Services will be held at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

HOPKINS, Eara Coffin, 80 of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed Friday, October 4, 2002 at Heartland Nursing Home. Mrs. Hopkins was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. She moved to Zephyrhills from Tampa in 1972. She is survived by her son, George M. Coffin of Zephyrhills; two brothers, Richard Driggers of Zephyrhills, and L.C. Driggers of Lakeland; three sisters, Ruth Douglas of Starke, Louise Diamond of Dover and Flossie Lee of Zephyrhills; two grandsons, Denver G. Coffin and Brett A. Coffin of Lutz; and one granddaughter, Cindee J. Campbell of Dade City; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 7, 2002 from 7:00 to 9 p.m. Services will be on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at Kelly Funeral Home with the Rev. David Frit officiating.

PERRY, Ruth A., 92 of Zephyrhills, died Friday, October 4, 2002. She was born in Jasper, Florida and has lived in Zephyrhills since 1921. She worked in retail for over 50 years in local stores, including Skinners Drug Store. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Zephyrhills and was a children's Sunday school teacher for many years. Family requests memorial donations be made to the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gaskin, who was Pasco County Commissioner; five brothers; and three sisters; including Lura M. Whitworth. Survivors include; several nieces; nephews; including James L. Bass, Chattanoogo, Tenn., and Roger A. Whitworth, Clearwater, Fla. Friends will be received Monday at the funeral home from 6 - 8 p.m. The funeral will be officiated by Pastor Stephen Odom at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Coleman & Ferguson Funeral Home, Richey Chapel, 38303 North Ave., in Zephyrhills, (813) 782-7676. Burial will follow at Oakside Cemetery, Zephyrhills.

PHILLIPS, Charles F., 88, of Holiday, Florida, died Saturday October 5, 2002 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center, New Port Richey, Fla. He was born in Radburn, New Jersey and moved here from Ridgewood, N.J. 22 years ago. He retired as the mechanic for a Getty Gas Station in New Jersey. Survivors; two sons, Charles L. Phillips of Holiday, Fla., Robert E. Phillips of East Rutherford, N.J.; brother, Ellsworth Phillips of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Jennie Ward of Deland, Fla.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
