He was a Major in the Salvation Army and served as chaplain of the House of Representatives in Harrisburg, Pa.; was a member of the Salvation Army for 43 years and the former director of development for the Salvation Army, serving in Western Pa., Central Illinois, Eastern Iowa, Western NY, Southwest Ohio, NE Kentucky division and state of NJ. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eva M.; three daughters, Donna Kirby; son-in-law, Jerry Kirby, of Ill., Margaret Nathan, Lansing, Mich., Cathy Nathan, Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Emmett Nathan, Cape Elizabeth, Maine; and one grandson, J. STOUT, Arthur W., Jr., 82, of Dade City, died Sunday, March 16, 2003. Born June 19, 1920 in Mobile, Alabama, he attended school in New Orleans, La., and Graduated from Tulane University with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1941. A retired shipbuilding Industry executive, he was the Vice President of New York Shipbuilding Company until 1967. He retired as President of the Todd Shipbuilding Corporation in 1981. He served on the board of directors for the American Bureau of Shipping and the Todd Shipyards Corporation. He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and was a Life member of the Navy League. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946 and retired as a commander in tbe U.S. Naval Reserve in 1967. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dade City. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rowena Lee Stout; two sons, Arthur W. Stout, III of New Orleans, La., and John B. Stout of Frederiksted, U.S.V.I.; one daughter, Miriam Knorr of Nevis, West Indies; one brother, Thomas A. DEAN, Wallace, E., Jr., 54, of Gibsonton, passed away March 12, 2003 in Tampa. A native of Chicago, Mr. Wallace had graduated from Roosevelt military Academy, where he had played drums in the school band. He had joined the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego from 1967-1971. He then resided in Los Angeles for the rest of his 15 years in California, where he had worked as a commercial printer. After a short stay with his sister in North Carolina, he moved to this area in 1983 and resumed his printing career. He had a second career in interstate trucking. One of his favorite past-times was riding his Harley. He was preceded in death by his father, Dean E. Wallace, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Wallace of Sun City Center; sister, Colette Newman of Winston-Salem, NC; nephew, Jason Newman and his wife, Rani of Louisville, Ky.; great-niece, Rozlyn Newman; great-nephew, Maxamillion Newman; and his beloved companion, Miss Kitty, who now lives with his close friends Denny and Teresa Myers. LONG, John Joseph, Jr., 59, of Tampa, passed away Sunday March 16, 2003. His parents, John and Helen Long and his nephew, Bryan O'Connor, all of Overland Park, Kan., preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, John Stephen (Steve) Long, his daughter and son-in-law Michele McKay Long-Craig and Bill Craig, his grandchildren, McKay and Jack Craig of Tampa, Fla. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Linda and John O'Connor, their surviving children, Laura and Michael, all of Overland Park, Kan., a brother and sister-in-law Bob and Ann Long, and their children, Shawn, Joshua, and Sundown of Everett, Wash. Mr. Long was a native of Shawnee Mission, Kan. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1965. After graduation, he moved to Tampa to join the Bentley Gray Company. He was named President of Bentley Gray in 1982. His commercial real estate career began in 1985 when he joined the A. S. Austin Company as Vice President and General Manager. In 1998 he became associated with the Grubb & Ellis Company as Vice President, Office Services Group and remained an active broker with Grubb & Ellis until his health forced him to take medical leave in November of 2001. He was involved in many civic and social activities during his career in Tampa. He was a past board member of the Downtown Rotary Club, past Vice President of the David Falk Foundation and past member of the Merrymakers Club, the University Club, and the Centre Club. He was an active member of both the Krew of Gasparilla and Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, having served on the board of Palma Ceia for two terms. A Funeral Mass will be said at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20 at Christ the King Catholic Church with private interment to follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. MILLER, Carolyn Garrett, 59, of Riverview received into the hands of the Lord on March 16, 2003 after a long illness. Born in Arlington, Va. on May 17, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Virginia Garrett and widow of Vernon Dean Miller of Tampa, Fla., married for 29 years. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn V. Miller of Riverview and Deanna M. Coile (husband, William R. Coile, Jr.) of Lakeland. She was blessed with three grandsons, Matthew Todd Glenn, Nicholas Dean Coile and Christopher Robert Coile. Mrs. Miller is also survived by sister, Mary Harvey and husband Clint of Amherst, Va.; brother, Harry Garrett and wife Lois of New Market, Va.; sister, Eleanor Harvey of Sumter, S.C.; sister, Linda Odom and husband Marvin of Hartsville, S.C.; brother, Roger Garrett and wife Luann of Zebulon, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. MUENZLER, Fred L., 90, formerly of Tampa, passed away on March 12 2003 in Tamarac, Fla. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, he was an avid fisherman, whose love and laughter will be forever missed. He served his country with valor and distinction in World War II with the 83rd Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge, and the liberation of Europe, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. PENDERGRASS, Hardin T. `Buddy`, passed away March 16, 2003. Buddy was born twice. He was born first into this world on August 10, 1947 in Chattanooga, Tenn. and re-born into the Kingdom of God and re-dedicated his life to the Lord during the Summer of '98.
Since his early childhood God had blessed Buddy with the gift of music, but he struggled much of his life to serve the Lord with His gifts. Buddy made several efforts in bands like White Witch to make statements about the battle of Good versus Evil, but Buddy found no true success until he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. Since then Buddy has been confessing the name of Jesus before men through his music and engineering the music of others to the Glory of God. For all his life, Buddy had an infectious passion for life, a passion that was vibrantly communicated in the music of the Tropics and still touches the lives of fans throughout the world. In recent days, Buddy's passion had led him to ultimate satisfaction in Jesus in bringing Him glory. This is no more evident than in the lives of his family who have blossomed in the shadow of his spiritual leadership.
