LERER, Sam, age 93, of Tampa, died Monday, August 4, 2003. Mr. Lerer was a resident of Tampa since 1955. He was a chemist for the US government and a former member of Temple David. Survivors include his beloved wife of 36 years, Lucille; cousin, Rhea Hurwitz; step-son, Dan Good Jr.; step grandchildren, Dan Good III, Donna Meyers and Denise Epp; step great-grandson, Joshua Meyers; three nieces; and three great-nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at Beth David Funeral Chapel, 3909 Henderson Boulevard, Tampa. Interment will follow at Gan Shalom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital or the charity of ones choice.

MAGAI, Lloyd Owen, 75, of Ridge Manor, Fla. for 16 years, formerly of Whippany, N.J., died on July 29, 2003 at Virtua-West Jersey Hospital, Voorhees, N.J. Born in Montclair, N.J., he served in the US Army as a 1st Lt. He worked as a Corp Director of Purchasing at Warner-Lambert Morris Plains, N.J. for 33 years. He was the husband of Audrey E. (nee Harring Magai; father of Linda wife of Jim Ferr is of Stratford; grandfather of Jenny, Ryan and Sean; brother of Mary Mutter and Carol Magai; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Rt. 41 & Mt. Fair Avenue, Brooksville, Fla. ORTIZ CONCEPCION, Irma Iris, age 54, of Tampa passed away Aug. 1, 2003. A native of Fajardo, Puerto Rico and resident of Tampa for the past nine months coming from Chicago, Ill. Survivors include her children, Luis Cosme, Samantha Cosme, Johann Gandia, Anthony Cosme and Charles Carcone, Jr.; mother, Natividad Concepcion Pacheco; loving companion, Charles Carcone; brothers, Jesus and Edgar; sisters, Lillian, Solin, Lucy and Mabel and eight grandchildren.

PIDICK, William J. `Bill`, 49, of Tampa, passed away August 2, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Debbie Pidick; son, Adam Pidick; daughter, Aimee Pellegran; brother, George Pidick; nephew, Alan Pidick; and a grandson, Dillon Pellegran. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at MacDonald Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4- 7 p.m. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many close friends. STELMA, John, 78 of Belleair Bluffs, Fla., formerly Tampa, passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003. He was born in New York and was a Veteran of World War II, U.S. Army Air Corps. He was preceded in death by son, Duane Hutto. Survivors include his wife, Martha Hutto Stelma of Belleair Bluffs, Fla.; two sons, Fred and Ronnie Hutto and daughter, Dawn Butts. TOMCZAK, Frank J. `Tom` 82, of Tampa, passed away August 1, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Tomczak; daughters, Linda

Tomczak of Dallas, Texas and Suzanne Seder of Tampa; and granddaughter, Katherine Seder of Tampa; sisters, Marie Murphy of Waldorf Md., Ann Janiak of Linesville, Pa. and Dorothy Kane of Williamsburg, Va. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Tomczak. Frank was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., was a veteran of World War II, served in both the US Navy and US Air Force and was a member of the Suncoast Chapter of Submarine Veterans, World War II. He retired from Eastern Airlines and was a member of Elks Lodge 708. Family will receive visitors Wednesday, Aug. 6, beginning at 6 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave., Tampa. Frank will be laid to rest with military honors on Thursday, August 7 at 11 a.m. at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. TOWLES, Helen M., 88, of St Petersburg passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 at Tandem Health Care of St. Petersburg. She was born in Houston, Texas on Oct. 12, 1914, daughter of Harold C. Martin and Bertha Dickey. Helen came to St. Petersburg in 1984 from Tampa, Fla. She built ships during World War II at the Tampa Shipyard. Helen married Captain Luke C. Towles December 16, 1947. She had no children, but raised her niece, P. Ann Boyer of Topeka, Kan., who is the next of kin. Other survivors are her sister, Dorothy E. Dunbar of Newark, Delaware; her brother, William R. Martin of San Diego; a great niece, Heather Boyer-Zavadsky of Austin, Texas ; and great nephews, Barry Boyer of Topeka, Brian Boyer of Greensboro, N.C. and Christopher Martin of Dallas, Texas . Helen Towles was cremated. No services are planned as requested by Helen Towles. ALONSO, Sylvia, age 65, a lifetime resident of Tampa died at her daughter's home on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 of breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her loving son, Gerald Alonso, Jr. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Michele Alonso; two sisters, Flora Chambers and husband Rex, and Dorian Hernandez and her husband Louis; one brother, Phillip Castellano and his wife JoAnn; several cousins, nieces and nephews. CLINE, Robert Stuart, PhD, CLU, CPCU, 83, beloved father and grandfather, died Friday, August 1, 2003 in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Margaret Anderson Cline, and is survived by his daughter Judith and her husband Ronald Beller; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Cline was born in Union, New York. He attended Hartwick College before serving as a pilot and flight instructor in the United States Navy during World War II, after which he attended Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor of Science and a Masters degree in Business Administration. Mr. Cline earned a PhD degree in Economics and Insurance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and then entered an academic career that included faculty positions at the University of Syracuse; the University of Missouri; Georgia State University; the University of Florida; the University of South Florida, where he served as the Charter Dean of the College of Business; the University of North Florida; and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, from which he retired in 1986 after ten years as Professor of Insurance at the School of Business and Economics. In 1983-84 he also served as Acting Dean of the School, and upon his retirement was designated Professor Emeritus of Finance. Mr. Cline resided in Florida from 1956 to 1976, and 27 years, up to the time of his death, in North Carolina. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 9, 2003 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Allen Memorial Home, 511 East Main St., Endicott, NY, 13760. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. Interment will be at 11 a.m. August 11, 2003 at Riverhurst Cemetery in Endicott.

COLE, Zora E., 75, a Tampa resident since 1959, passed away August 2, 2003. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Cole, Sr., February 2, 1994; and is survived by her son, Bernard Cole, Jr., and his wife, Paula; three grandchildren: Douglas, David, and Jennifer; and one great-great-grandchild, Wesley. Zora was the former president of the Tampa Bay Fern Club, and also an active member of the Orchid Club. She was known as Plants by `Zoe.` Family and friends will gather Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with interment following in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. GARDNER, Bernell Dayle, a 56-year resident of Tampa, passed away Aug. 4, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospital after an extended illness. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean; loving daughters, Judy Dato, Susie Dickens and Jackie Gardner; sons-in-law, Joe Dato and Ben Dickens; grandchildren, Jonathan Orebaugh, Joey Dato and Robert Coltman; and great-grandchildren, J.D. and Ford Dato. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Coltman and his younger brothers, Delbert and Garrel. He was born in New Madrid, Mo. As a young man, he was associated with the Kroger Co. and the St. Louis Packing Co., which transferred him to Tampa. He started his own business, Peninsular Meat Co., in 1955 and won various professional awards for excellence, expanding his company to include a fleet of 25 delivery semis. Bernell was a man of quiet strength and gentle ways, a respected and productive member of his community who was always generous to causes he believed in, with both his time and financial support. He was a 50-year member of the Palma Ceia United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a 55-year member of the Egypt Temple Shrine of North America. He was a member of the University C lub, Palma Ceia Golf and Tennis Club, Tampa Yacht and Country Club and Avila Golf and Country Club. An avid golfer, he was proud of an award won for scoring a hole-in-one on the Palma Ceia course. He was a Duke in the Royal Court of the Krewe of Venus and was later elected King Venus XI. Bernell will be dearly missed. There will be a visitation at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave., Tampa, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6. A funeral service is planned for Thursday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, 3723 Bay to Bay Blvd. Pallbearers are Ernie Green, Jonathan Orebaugh, Robert Coltman, Joey Dato, Mayes Howard, Richard Navarro, Brownie Oaks and Jimmy Rucker. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Bell, Keevin Sullivan, Dick Wittcoff, James Watkins, Joe Dato, Ben Di ckens, John Orebaugh, Howard Hill, Andy Reeves, Dickie Etts, Gary Gardner, Edsel Fair, Taylor Thorington and Frankie Marchesini. Friends are invited to join the family at a celebration of Bernell's life scheduled at the Tampa Yacht Club, 5320 Interbay Blvd., following the service. Flowers are welcome as are memorial contributions to the Childrens Home Inc., 10909 Memorial Hwy., Tampa, FL 33615 or the charity of your choice.

GINTZ, Connie, 60, of Land O' Lakes, Fla. passed away Monday, August 4, 2003. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Land O' Lakes from Tampa in 1970. She was a bus driver for 30 years with Pasco County Schools. She is survived by one son, Norman Gintz of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; three daughters, DeDe Fletcher of Brooksville, Fla., Teresea Kirkman of Brandon, Fla., Dawn Hartman of Mt. Verde, Fla.; one sister, Delores Gunther of Brooksville, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at Loyless Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Lutz Cemetery, Lutz.
