Mr. Robert E. Sales Jr., 60, of 747 Sanders Lane died Friday, Oct. 22 in a local nursing center. He was a native of St. Augustine, Fla., but had been a resident of Panama City. He leaves to cherish his memory one loving daughter, Joyce Sales; a loving sister, Mary (James) Thomas of St. Augustine, Fla.; a loving and devoted friend, Patricia Brown of Panama City; a loving stepdaughter, Zelda (Freddie) Parrish of Panama City; loving and devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. John Brown; eight loving nieces: Gladys Landrum and family of Atlanta, Ga; Gwendolyn (Richard) Duncan and family of St. Augustine; Inez (Kirk) Garvin of Atlanta; Carol (Anthony) Britton and family of Jacksonville, Fla.; Beverly Williams and son of St. Augustine; Cheryl Thomas and family of St. Augustine; Kathryn (Kenneth) Ginn and family; Robin (Eroll) Matte of Jacksonville; and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held in Battle Memorial Funeral home today, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Bethea officiating. Public visitation for viewing will begin this morning at 10 a.m.

BETTY VERNON STEPHENS
Mrs. Betty Vernon Stephens, age 72, of 350 Massalina Drive, Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 at her home. She had been a resident of the area since 1979, coming here from Dothan, Ala. Mrs. Stephens was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, the Pilot Club and Reach to Recovery. She is survived by her husband, Victor Stephens of Panama City, Fla.; sister, Mary Alice Boyer of Rural Valley, Pa.; a brother, F. Joe Vernon of Batavia, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Sally Barton of New Jersey; and she was Grammie to Laura, William, Dana and Kevin. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Chapel of Love in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Hal Jensen officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Panama City.

THOMAS WHITE JR.
Mr. Thomas White Jr., 76, of 2335 E. 34th Place, Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 in a local hospital. Born is Salisbury, N.C., he moved here 43 years ago. He was a retired truck driver and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. White is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis White, and a son, Donald White. He is survived by three sons: Gene White of Panama City, George White of Panama City Beach and Murray White of Apalachicola; two daughters: Shelley McCoy and husband David of Knoxville, Tenn., and Delia Burkett of Panama City; and eight grandchildren. Graveside funeral services for Mr. White will be conducted on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Walter Hubert Brandenburg, age 78, of 305 Red Bird St., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999 at a local nursing home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.

WILLILE LEE (BISCUIT) BRUNDIDGE
Mr. Willie Lee (Biscuit) Brundidge, 48, of 900 Bradley Circle, received his heavenly promotion Monday, Oct. 25, 1999 at Bay Medical Center. Affectionately known to everyone as "Biscuit," he was born July 12, 1951, in Troy, Ala., to the late Ruby Mae Brundidge and the Rev. Ballard Brundidge Jr. Biscuit attended Bay County Schools and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, he was employed with the City of Lynn Haven, where he has faithfully worked for the last 151/2 years. Biscuit was a member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. He was an avid sports fan who never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with a hearty hello and a warm smile. A compassionate and kind-hearted individual would best describe Biscuit. Biscuit leaves many to cherish and remember the love he shared with them: a loving and devoted soulmate, C. Yvonne Johnson; father, the Rev. Ballard (Betty) Brundidge Jr.; grandmother, Grace Green; four children: Consuello Wright, Terrecia Brundidge, Jamond Brundidge and Myles Brundidge; five brothers: Authar (Dorothy) Slater, Robert (Bertha) Porter, Louis (Carolyn) Brundidge, Leon (Diane) Brundidge and Gary (Myleen) Brown; three sisters: Shelia Barnes, Cynthia Brundidge and Jacqueline (Kenneth) Coulter; six grandchildren; uncles, aunts and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many friends. Funeral services for Mr. Willie Brundidge will be held Sunday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. in Holy Temple Church of God In Christ with Elder W.C. Green, officiating. Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation will begin today at the funeral home at 1 p.m. A family hour will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. in Battle Memorial Funeral Home Chapel today. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at 900 Bradley Circle.

WILLIAM M. COWAN
Lt. Col. William M. Cowan, retired, U.S.A.F., of 638 Driftwood Drive, Lynn Haven, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 at his home. He had been a resident of the area since 1972, coming here from Colorado Springs, Colo. He was Espicopalian by faith and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. Mr. Cowan was the past president of A.F.A., a Paul Harris Fellow in the Lynn Haven Rotary and past president, and former chief ground school instructor at Sowell Aviation. He is survived by his wife, John Ella Grigsby Cowan of Lynn Haven; his daughters, Patricia A. Yarbrough and Mary Hill van der Lann, both of Lynn Haven; two sisters, Mary Hill Warner and Hanah Weedon, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren: Kenney Wallace, William Yarbrough, Brian Yarbrough, Kris van der Laan, Rachael Yarbrough and Lyndsey van der Laan; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Bill Hunter officiating. Full military honors conducted by Tyndall Air Force Base. ROBERT LEE EXLEY
Mr. Robert Lee Exley, age 67, of 402 New York Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 in a local hospital. He was a native of Augusta, Ga., but had been a resident of Bay County for the past 32 years. He was co-owner of Fran's Travel, a decorated veteran of the Korean War serving with U.S. Army 3rd Airborne Rangers and a member of the V.F.W. Mr. Exley was also a member of Harry Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 314, the Shaddai Temple, the Moose Lodge and the Elks. He retired from the FAA in 1979. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Fran W. Exley, and is survived by Clara Register, a life partner; his two daughters: Mrs. Kare Rector of Panama City Beach and Mrs. Ellyn Newgreen of Tallahassee; granddaughter, Keleigh Rector of Panama City Beach; a grandson, Austin Newgreen of Tallahassee; and a son-in-law, Terry Newgreen of Tallahasse. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 30, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Rites to be conducted by the Harry Jackson Lodge No. 314. The lodge will be open an hour prior to service time. Asked to served as active pallbearers are the Roadrunners of Shaddai Temple. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shaddai Temple Childrens Fund, P.O. Box 16115, Panama City, FL 32406.

Funeral services for Mr. Clarence Angus Hand of Springfield, Fla., will be held today at 2 p.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lester Whitehead officiating. JOHN HARMON
Mr. John Harmon, 68, of the St. Joseph Community Chipley, passed away Thursday night, Oct. 28, at the residence of his daughter in Callaway, Panama City, Fla. He was a native of Jackson County and reared in Washington County. Mr. Harmon was a member of St. Joseph A.M.E. Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army, taught brick masonary at Washington Holmes Vocational School several years ago, worked at the International Paper Mill and became a building contractor in Panama City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at St. Joseph A.M.E. Church Chipley with the Rev. Claudia King and the Rev. Jeffrey Mills officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home, directing. Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Mary Harmon Jones, Tammis (Shelton) Roulhac and Emily Franklin, all of Panama City; three sisters: Reatha Brown (Robert) of Fort Walton Beach, Oddys Wilson of Orlando and Lillian Johnson of Tampa; and many other relatives and friends. The remains will lie in state at the church from noon Sunday until time for the services at 2 p.m.

JAMES DOUGLAS (POP) JOHNSTON
James Douglas (Pop) Johnston, 90, of Panama City, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 in a local nursing home. He was born in Barbour County, Ala., Dec. 22, 1908. He was a truck driver by vocation, living in various places in Alabama until he moved to Panama City in 1960. He then drove for McKenzie Tank Lines until he retired. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Hattie R. Johnston. He is survived by one son, Ed Johnston of Panama City; three daughters: Emily Warnberg and her husband Harry of Lynn Haven, India Belisle and her husband Albert (Buddy) of Panama City, and Paula Jane Pettit and her husband Stan of Richburg, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Eloise Johnston of Dothan, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two nephews and one niece. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Lewis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to Northside Baptist Church or St. Andrew Bay Center in memory of James (Pop) Johnston.
