Marvin Lamar McDonald Sr.
Mr. Marvin Lamar McDonald Sr., 87, of Matthews died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Keysville Nursing Home.
Mr. McDonald served his country in the United States Army, he retired from the Civil Service. He was a member of the Wrens Church of God and was a member of the American Legion Post #229. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by Jeanette H. McDonald.
The funeral was Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at Wrens Church of God with the Rev. Roy White officiating. Burial was in the Stapleton Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen McDonald; two sons, Marvin Lamar McDonald Jr. and Ricky McDonald, both of Gibson; one daughter, Marilyn J. Miller, Stapleton; three stepsons, Walter Templeton Jr., Matthews, John Templeton, Wrens, Ronnie Templeton, Louisville; four stepdaughters, Carolyn Lee, Dorothy Howell, both of Martinez, Shirley Russell, Matthews, and Ruth Wren, Wrens; one brother, R.C. McDonald, Wrens; three sisters, Dorothy Dye and Marjorie Englett, both of Wrens, and Lonita Williams, Augusta; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild; 18 step grandchildren and 18 step great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Burt Dye, Bruce Dye, S.J. McDonald, Kenneth McDonald, Terry Englett, Jimmy McDonald and Douglas Morris.
Honorary pallbearers were the American Legion Post #229.

Roy Marsh
Mr. Roy Marsh, 91, of Louisville died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the Georgia War Veteran's Home in Milledgeville.
Mr. Marsh was born in Glascock County. He was a service station operator and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He attended the Louisville Church of God. He was the son of the late Luther and Hattie Lamb Marsh.
The funeral was Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. at the Louisville Church of God with the Rev. Don King officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Leroy Marsh, Louisville; two daughters, Mrs. Billy Owensby, Louisville, and Mrs. Anelle King, Mobile, Ala.; three sisters, Mrs. Fronie Bell Black, Avera, Mrs. Hattie Mae Todd, Martinez, and Mrs. Elouise May, Vidalia; one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fred Robinson Sr. of Wrens died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002.
The funeral was Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Jones officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth Brown Williams, 61, of Gibson died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002.
Mrs. Williams, a native of Cook County, Ill., was a nurse and a member of the Gibson Church of God.
The funeral was Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Gibson Church of God with the Revs. Steve Lamb, Ralph Kitchens and Bert Osborne officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Buford E. Shirley McGruder Pierce
Mrs. Shirley McGruder Pierce of Louisville died Friday, Dec. 19, 2002.
Mrs. Pierce, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the Jones Grove Baptist church where she served as President of choir, Church Clerk member Youth Dept. Advisor, Missionary Board, Pastor's Aid and Kitchen Committee Chairperson of Watch Night and worked with the Minister's Deacon and Church Union. She was also a member of the Louisville Chapter 101 Order of Eastern Star, NAACP where she worked on the special program committee. She was a member of the Jefferson County Democratic Committee. She was employed by Ingersoll-Rand at Thermo King Corporation since 1973 and was attending Sandersville Technical School where she was studying accounting.
The funeral was Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Jones Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Dudley, Fredrick Ricks, Perry Daniels and Thomas Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Aaron Pierce; one daughter, Wanda T. Judson Cunningham Sr.
Mr. Judson Cunningham Sr. died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002.
Mr. Cunningham was a native of Jefferson County. He was a member of the Eden Baptist church where he served on the Trustee Board. He was a farm overseer most of his life.
The funeral was Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Eden Baptist Church and cemetery with the Revs. James Nelson and Augustus Lockhart officiating.

J. Norman Folk Jr.
Mr. J. Norman Folk Jr., 82, of Williston, SC, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002.
Mr. Folk, a native of Westminster, Md., was co-owner of Folk Amoco service station and was service manager of Folk Auto Company. He taught from 1969 until he retired in 1983 as auto mechanics instructor at the Barnwell County Vocational School. He was a member of Hope Masonic Lodge No. 126. He was a member of the Williston Lions Club and a member of the Williston United Methodist Church where he served as Chairman of the Official Board of the United Methodist Church and as church treasurer and was on the Board of Trustees. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Laura Rhodes Folk.
The funeral was Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at Folk Funeral Home Chapel in Williston with burial in the Williston Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Dale E. and Devin Wright of Aiken, Anne Rhodes Evans Able and Mark Able of Elgin; son and daughter-in-law, Eric Norman and Joyce Folk of Hazel Green, Ala.; a sister, Elizabeth F. Roosevelt Theodore Williams Sr.
Mr. Roosevelt Theodore Williams Sr. of Louisville died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Williams, a native of Jefferson County, was a retired logger and a member of the St. Matthews AME Church. He was employed by the Pilcher family for many years.
The funeral was Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at the St. Matthews AME Church with the Rev. David Walker officiating. Burial was in the Louisville Society Cemetery.

Martha A. Cox
Mrs. Martha A. Cox of Auburn, Ky., died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky.
Mrs. Cox, a native of Glascock County, graduated from Wrens High School and obtained a degree from Georgia State College for Women in 1925. She moved to Kentucky and taught in the Langdon School, a Presbyterian school for mountain girls, in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of the Auburn Legion Auxiliary for 68 years, a former member of the Eastern Star, Auburn Woman's Club and Grayson Woman's Club. She was a member of the Auburn Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late James M. and Mary Jane Hadden Adams of Wrens and her husband, Richard F. Cox Sr.
The funeral was Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Young Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, Ky., on Dec. 14.
Survivors include her sons, Richard R. Cox Jr., Auburn, Ky., and James L. Cox, Atlanta; and her grandchildren, James L. Cox Jr. and Lisa A. Cox of Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren, Melissa Erin Cox and James L. Cox III. Local survivors are Ms. Ruth Adams and Mr. Brian Brown.
James A. Beckworth
Mr. James A. Beckworth, 63, of Wrens died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Beckworth, a native of Glascock County, had lived in Wrens for several years. He was retired from the grocery business. He was a member of Wrens First Baptist Church.
The funeral was Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his nephew, John Rabun, Matthews, and a niece, Sara Jane Rabun, Matthews.

Cecil Therman Bishop
Mr. Cecil Therman Bishop, 77, of Adrian died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at the Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro.
Mr. Bishop, a native of Emanuel County, was the son of the late George Robert and Reba Robinson Bishop of Emanuel County. He was a retired mechanic and restaurant owner and was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
The funeral was Dec. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Bishop Chapel cemetery in Summertown with Elder Tommy Roundtree and the Rev. Allen Meeks officiating.

Rosser Roy Raines Jr.
Mr. Rosser Roy Raines Jr., 64, of Highlands, NC, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002.
Mr. Raines, a native of Upson County, formerly lived in Thomaston. He was the son of the late Roy Rosser Raines Sr. and Myrtle Conley Raines. He was a graduate of Emory University 1959 and attended Harvard Business School. He retired in 1998 after 36 years with Thomaston Mills serving on the Board of Directors and was Treasurer and CFO at the time of retirement. He was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a grandson, John Ross Raines.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Thomaston.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Helms Raines; two sons, David Raines, Atlanta, and Mark (Elva) Raines, of Waynesboro; his granddaughter, Anne-Marie Raines, Waynesboro.

Mr. Walter Brown "W.B." Jones Jr., 75, of Davisboro died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 in the Washington Regional Medical Center in Sandersville.
Mr. Jones, a native of Treutlen County, was a retired machinist with the J.P. Stephens Company and a mechanic and plumber. He was a member of the Davisboro Volunteer Fire Department, a former city councilman of the City of Davisboro and a member of Davisboro United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Ann Jones Hannah.
The funeral was Dec. 23 at 3 p.m. at Davisboro United Methodist Church with the Revs. Harold E. Davidson, Eddie Wallace and Bob Williams officiating. Burial was in the Davisboro Cemetery.
