Mrs. Ann Little of Wrens died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at University Hospital.
Mrs. Little was a member of Stone Springfield AME Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society. She also held membership in Paramount Chapter #337, Order of Easter Star. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Little.
The funeral was July 8 at 3:30 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church with the Rev. Michael G. Ephraim Sr. officiating.
Survivors include three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Robert S. Van Arsdale
Mr. Robert S. Van Arsdale, 84, of Wrens died Sunday, July 3, 2006.
Mr. Van Arsdale was a member of St. Jacobi Lutheran. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a charter member of Ecker-Haupt Post 5635, VFW, charter member of Lackawaxen Township Ambulance Service, a charter member of Shohola Township Planning Comm., and former Chairman of Citizens Advisory Council Upper Delaware. He served in the US Army and fought in World War II, Coast Artillery.
Graveside services were July 5 at 11 a.m. at the Young-Pool cemetery with the Rev. Roy White officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Van Arsdale; a brother, Jacob J. Van Arsdale; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1725, Augusta, GA 30903-1725.

Walter D. “Bubba” Thomas
Mr. Walter D. “Bubba” Thomas, 69, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006.
Mr. Thomas, a native of Louisville, lived in Savannah most of his life. He was retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad after 30 years of service and was a member of the Alee Shriners Oriental Band. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy, and was a volunteer with Civil Defense.
The funeral was July 8 at 10 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Burial was in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Fairbanks, Savannah; his mother, Lucille B. Thomas, Savannah; two sisters, Joan Schmidt, Savannah, and Rosalyn Hackney, Perry; two grandchildren, Alex and Mary Allison Fairbanks, Savannah; and several other relatives.

Carla Gail New Poss
With heavy hearts and deep sadness, the family of Carla Gail New Poss of Bartow announces her passing on Tuesday, July 4, 2006.
She is survived by numerous friends and family, specifically, her husband Michael R. Poss; her daughter, Kate Poss; her parents, Tommy and Gloria New; her paternal grandparents, Wesley and Nesta New, all of Bartow; her sister and brother-in-law, Wendy N. New and Edward W. Malin, and their daughter, Nesta Ryan New Malin, Arlington, Va.
Mrs. Poss, 33, died in her sleep Tuesday at the family farm in Bartow after a prolonged illness.
A 1991 graduate of Thomas Jefferson Academy of Louisville, Mrs. Poss also attended Georgia Southern University and Augusta College.
Mrs. Carla Poss and her husband, Michael, were married
for seven and one-half years. She lived in Bartow her entire life, working at the Jefferson County Corrections Institute.
Throughout her life, she was a free spirit, thoughtful and generous. She loved animals, writing and most of all, her six-year-old daughter, Kate. In 2001, The News and Farmer featured an award-winning essay written by Carla Poss nominating her mother, Gloria New, the Mother of the Year.
Viewing and visitation for the family and friends was held on Friday, July 7, at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Louisville and the burial services were observed at the Memorial Gardens in Louisville on Saturday morning, July 8, with Pastor Dewey Henderson and Pastor Beau Taylor officiating. Pallbearers for the services were Mr. William Hadden, Mr. Ron Livingston, Mr. Gordon Mays Jr., Mr. Rodney Mays, Mr. Calvin Oliphant and Mr. Mark Williamson. Honorary pallbearers were represented by all active and retired Jefferson County employees.

Henry C. “H.C.” Pitts Sr.
Mr. Henry C. “H.C.” Pitts Sr. of Wrens died Thursday, June 29, 2006.
Mr. Pitts joined in fellowship and membership at Trinity CME Church where he served as a Steward. He also held membership in the Ways Grove Memorial Aide Society and Gibralter Lodge #256. He specialized as a master barber and was retired from the Jefferson County School System. He is preceded in death by his wife Mollie Julia Pitts.

Aubrey Cicero Brooks
Mr. Aubrey Cicero Brooks, 85, of Fayettevillen, Tenn., died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Hillside Memorial Hospital, Pulaski, Tenn.
Mr. Brooks, a native of Stapleton, was the son of the late Lemuel Reese and Anne Thigpen Brooks. He was an educator with degrees from Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Army Artillery as a radioman in the South Pacific during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. He lived for many years in Anchorage, Alaska, working primarily as a management engineer at Ft. Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three sisters and two wives, Margaret Spear Brooks and Ivy Caudill Brooks.
The funeral was July 1 at 3 p.m. at Curtis Funeral Home with Dr. Leonard Dupree officiating. Burial was in Reedy Creek Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughters, Maritana Appling, Marietta, Paula Kudadad, San Diego, Calif., and Becky Coffman, Huntington, W.V.; brother, John G. Brooks, Dearing; a sister, Joyce Brooks Hughes, Thomson; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Edith Elizabeth Screws Gordy, 88, of Wadley died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mrs. Gordy was a native and lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She was preceded in death by her husband J.W. “Buddy” Gordy. She was a homemaker and a member of Wadley First United Methodist Church.
The funeral was July 3 at 11 a.m. at Wadley First United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Sauls officiating. Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, James T. and Edith Gordy, Wrens, Willard Lyman and Jenny Gordy, Wadley, and Gene Colin and Linda Gordy, North Augusta, S.C.; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hazel Pauline Davis “Polly” Holley of Knoxville, Tenn., died Saturday, June 10, 2006.
Mrs. Holley was a member of Timothy St. Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wesley and Katherine Davis; and a brother, Robert Kenneth Davis.
Graveside services were held at Easeview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Louanna Cunningham Redfield of Augusta died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Beverly Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Redfield, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Augusta for several years. She was a member of Greater Zion Baptist Church in Augusta, a member of Spring Bethel Benevolent Society, Ways Grove Society and a former member of Smith Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Marion Redfield, Waynesboro, Geneva Sammolns, Augusta, Evelyn Mitchell, Jamaica, N.Y., and Helen Redfield, Brooklyn, N.Y.; a devoted granddaughter, Wanda Redfield, Augusta; one daughter-in-law; two sons-in-law; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Mrs. Maude Stephens Malin, 91, of Martinez died Wednesday, June 8, 2006.
Mrs. Malin, a native of Avera, lived in Augusta most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Julius Malin.
The funeral was July 1 at 2 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Chapel in Grovetown with the Revs. Lucis Cato and Dewain French officiating.

Mrs. Vera Irby Boren, 84, of Waynesboro died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mrs. Boren, a native of Glascock County, was the daughter of the late Warthen and Dessie Mae Norris Irby and lived most of her life in Waynesboro. She was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class and Rosemont Heights Baptist Church. She was affiliated with Eastern Star and Daughters of American Revolution. She is preceded in death by her husband, Percy Perry Boren, and two brothers, Ottis and Cecil Irby.
Graveside services were April 21 at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Church cemetery with the Rev. Keith Alderman officiating.
Survivors include her daughter, Tiana (Joseph) Greiner-Dwolek, Waynesboro; two sons, Percy (Diane) Boren Jr., Arley, Ala., and Nelson (Wendy) Boren, Nashville, Tenn.; her sister-in-law, Gladys Irby, Gibson; a nephew; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
