Mrs. Ruby Robinson Spence
Mrs. Ruby Robinson Spence, 82, of Hogansville, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Derrick Smith and the Rev. Randall Hodge will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Pallbearers will be Robert Pilgrim, Norman Smith, Mallory Smith, Harold Robinson, Hassell Robinson, Charles Robinson, Elliott Robinson and Robbie Robinson.

Mrs. Spence was born Dec. 4, 1920 in Randolph County, Ala., daughter of the late Henry Albert Robinson and the late Beulah Roberts Robinson. A resident of Hogansville most of her life, she was a former resident of Atlanta and retired from the purchasing department of Georgia Institute of Technology. She was a member of the Hogansville Church of God and was the wife of the late H. Johnson Spence.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Denise Spence of Hogansville and Marinell and Robert Pilgrim of Stone Mountain; one sister, Miss Mary Robinson of Hogansville; brother, Leonard (Doc) Robinson, also of Hogansville; two granddaughters, Jennifer Morkis of Seattle, Wash. and Jamie Pilgrim of Tucker; one great-grandson, Patrick Morkis.

Mr. Walter "Walt" Eugene Spencer
Mr. Walter "Walt" Eugene Spencer, 70, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003.

He is survivied by three sons, Barry Anthony Spencer, Ellabella, Ga., Timothy Alan Spencer, Bremen, Ga., and Jody Paul Spencer, Ellenwood, Ga.; two daughters, Pamela Kaye Rigby, Chesapeake, Va., Angela Paige Spencer, Griffin, Ga.; sister, Margaret Webb, Newnan; five brothers, Thomas, Ronnie, Jerry and Danny Spencer, all of Newnan, Jimmy Spencer, East Point, Ga.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Parkway Garden Chapel by Dr. Raymond Hancock and Rev. Gary Howard. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan, Ga.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3-9 p.m.

Mrs. Sarah Chaffin
Mrs. Sarah Chaffin of Tyrone, Ga., died Sept. 21, 2003.

She was born Sept. 26, 1940 in Fulton County, Ga.

Surviving are her husband, Mr. Holland Chaffin, Tyrone; daughter, Vickie Chaffin Lewis, Tyrone; sons, Rick Chaffin, Greenville, Micky Chaffin, Greenville, Alan Chaffin, Tyrone, Kenny Chaffin, Grantville, Randy Chaffin, Sharpsburg, James Chaffin, Tyrone, Mark Chaffin, Palmetto; sister, Judy Greeson, Fairburn; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Rev. Ron Edwards officiating. Burial in Camp Memorial Park.

Miss Helen Marie Cook
Miss Helen Marie Cook of Fairburn, Ga., died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 at Fairburn HealthCare Center in Fairburn.

A funeral was Saturday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Highway 154, Sharpsburg, Ga. with remains placed in state at the church at 10 a.m. The Rev. Colliers Starks, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Coleman Hayes, Minister Robin Brooks and Minister Amanda Hayes. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers and flower bearers were relatives and friends.

Miss Cook was born June 26, 1924 to the late Andrew Jackson Houston January Cook and Susie McKiever Cook in Heard County. She spent most of her life in New York with her sister Inez. She also lived in Detroit, Michigan and later moved to Georgia where she spent time in East Point, Senoia and Atlanta.

She joined Ebenezer Baptist Church April 4, 1999 with the Rev. Coleman Hayes Jr. as pastor. Her greatest accomplishment was her devotion to her Christian faith. Her next joy was her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William Howard Cook, Clarence M. Cook and John Lloyd Cook; and one sister, Inez Mary Delaney.

Surviving are brother, Joseph Simon Cook, Autumn Ages in Lorain, Ohio; three brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends were asked to assemble at the home of her niece, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil (Sara) Brooks, 64 Lee Road, Senoia, Ga. on the day of the service at 10 a.m.

Mr. Robert Michael "Mike" Huddleston
Mr. Robert Michael "Mike" Huddleston of Newnan, Ga., died September 20, 2003.

He was born July 25, 1959 in Fulton County, Ga. He was a senior customer service agent with Delta Air Lines.

Surviving are his wife, Leslie Huddleston; mother, Jere Echols of McDonough; daughter, Amanda (Mandy) Huddleston, Newnan; son, Michael T. Huddleston, Newnan; stepdaughter, Christina Barker, Newnan; brother, Randy Huddleston, Fayetteville.

A funeral was Monday, Sept. 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Bagley officiating. Burial in Holly Hill. An on-line guest registry is available at www.parrottfuneralhome.com.

The family was receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5-8 p.m.

Mrs. Grace Slaton Lanier
Mrs. Grace Slaton Lanier of Tyrone, Ga., died September 19, 2003.

She was born April 12, 1913 in Fayette County, Ga. to Eugene Slaton and Myrtice Adams.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Junior Dalton, Tyrone; sisters, Madjorie Thompson, Tyrone, Doris Meachem, LaGrange, Jerline Chambers, Forest Park; Helen Howard, Gainesville; Myrtie Eubanks, Newnan; brother, Thomas Slaton, Newnan; grandchildren, Lisa and Gene Dalton, Cindy and Wade Knowles; great-grandchildren, Jake Knowles, Kayla Davis, Andrea Dalton, Maegen Dalton, nieces and nephews.

A funeral was Monday, Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Rev. William O. "Bill" Priester and Rev. Farren Roper officiating. Burial in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Lucile Shokes
Mrs. Lucile Shokes died Sept. 21, 2003.

Margaret Lucile Breihahn Shokes, widow of Charles H. Shokes, was a temporary resident of Newnan, Ga., but was a life-long resident of Charleston, South Carolina.

A funeral will be Friday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Downtown Chapel, Charleston, S.C.. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel Thursday between 5 and 7 p.m.

Mrs. Shokes was born April 26, 1916 in Decatur, Ga., the daughter of Julius W. Breihahn and Lily E. Wittschen Breihahn. She retired as a Registered Medical Clinical Secretary. She was a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church, Professional Women's Business Association, The American Legion Auxiliary and The Rutledge Rejoicers.

Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews survive her.

Mr. Ulas B. Ware
Mr. Ulas B. Ware, 92, of Newnan, Ga., died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Warm Springs, Ga.

A funeral for "Mr. U.B," will be Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with remains placed in state at the church from noon until the hour of the service.

The Rev. Grady B. Vaughn, pastor of Russell Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church will officiate. The Rev. Willie J. Johnson is presiding, assisted by the Rev. John Farmer, the Rev. Clinton Melson, the Rev. Joe P. Geter. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers, and the flower bearers will be the Mother Board of Oak Grove Church, Newnan Chapter 483 Order of the Eastern Star, and the granddaughters. Newnan Lodge 299 will perform Masonic rites.

Mr. Ware was born June 15, 1911 in Hogansville, Ga. to the late Peter Walton Ware and Besora Beasley-Ware. He was the oldest of three boys and was preceded in death by two brothers, William Henry and Eddie Lee Ware.

At age seven he joined Oak Grove Baptist Church in Roscoe, Ga. and served as chairman of the Deacons Board until 1999. He joined Masonic Lodge 299 December 23, 1955 and was an active member for forty-plus years.

Mr U.B., as he was so lovingly called by everyone, was joined in holy matrimony March 27, 1932 to the late Lois Missouri Wimberly Ware and they had 13 children, three of whom preceded him in death: Mr. Willie B. Ware, Mr. Ulas Ware Jr. and Mr. Calvin Harmon.

Surviving are 10 children, including six daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Lynch (Louise), Atlanta, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Lovelace (Julia), Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Mildred Brown, Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Harden-Brown (Barbara) Suffolk, Virginia, Ms. Evelyn Ware-Cox, Newnan, Ga. and Ms. Joyce Ware, Newnan, Ga.; four sons, Mr.and Mrs. Walter Ware, Newnan, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ware, Atlanta, Mr. Eugene Ware, Newnan, Ga. and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ware, Atlanta, Ga. Mr. U.B.'s extended flock includes 27 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m.

On the day of the service family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence, 38 Ulas B. Ware Road, Newnan, Ga. at noon.

Mr. John W. Watts Jr.
Mr. John W. Watts Jr., 75, of McDonough, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Portsbridge Hospice in Conyers.

Mr. Watts was a member of White Oak Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Ruth Watts.

The family will receive friends today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, with Reverend Cecil Dudley officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Clegg of McDonough, and Linda Stalvey of Albany; one sister, Dora Teal of LaGrange; one brother, Jack Watts of Newnan; grandchildren, Joseph Kelly, Donnie and Jessica Slaton of Newnan, John and Scarlett Stalvey of Albany, James Stalvey of Albany, and Ashley Clegg of McDonough; one great-grandchild, Alexis Stalvey of Albany; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Harriett Bush Smith
Mrs. Harriett Bush Smith, of 101 West Washington St. in Newnan, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville, Ga.

Mrs. Smith was the wife of Mr. Levi Smith.

Her remains will be shipped to Temple and Son Funeral Home in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Tuesday, Sept. 23 for a funeral service on Saturday, Sept. 27.
