Miss Kasey Clark

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Miss Kasey Michelle Clark, 19, of 49 Lion Gate Drive, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Shaws Creek Baptist Church, Trenton, with the Rev. Delbert Nero officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Miss Clark, a native of Edgefield County, was a 1997 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School and a member of Spring Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the gospel chorus.

Survivors include her parents, Julia Mealing, North Augusta; two brothers, Jamal Quattlebaum, North Augusta, and Johnny Clark, Aiken; three sisters, Valensia Clark and LaShonda Mealing, both of North Augusta, and Natalie Clark, Aiken; and her paternal grandmother, Lillie Bell Clark, Aiken.

Friends may call at the residence or at 1 p.m. today at G.L. Brightharp and Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Fred Cheeks

Owens-Corning Fiberglass retiree

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mr. Fred Joseph Cheeks, 65, of 711 Seymour Drive, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at University Hospital.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley.

Mr. Cheeks, a native of Augusta, was a retired purchaser with Owens-Corning Fiberglass. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9164.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Cheeks, North Augusta; one brother, Harry Cheeks, North Augusta; and five sisters, Doris Stufflet, Myrtis Petersen and Earlene Miville, all of Belvedere, Carolyn Tygrett, Carrie, Ill., and Jewel Dunkle, Omaha, Neb.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Mr. Willie Daniel

Retired farmer

WARRENTON, Ga. -- Mr. Willie James Daniel, 81, of Providence Health Care Center died Wednesday, April 8, 1998.

Graveside services will be at noon Saturday in Haynes cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Rev. Alexander Ingram officiating.

Mr. Daniel, a native of Warrenton, was a retired farmer.

Survivors include two daughters, Alta Daniel and Julia Daniel, both of New York; and three sisters, Leslie Clemens and Mamie Pearl Cunningham, both of Atlanta, and Katie Yarbough, Warrenton.

Friends may call at Dawson's Mortuary.

Mrs. Dorothy DeWeen

Mrs. Dorothy Louise DeWeen, 65, of 103 Second St., died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Vencore Hospital, Atlanta.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Allan McDonald officiating.

Mrs. DeWeen, a native of Wagener, was a homemaker and Catholic.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy DeWeen, Sanborn, N.Y.; and three sisters, Jaydeas DeWeen, Niagara Falls, N.Y., Betty Jean Bolton, Texas, and Jean Bolton.

Poteet Funeral Home, Greene Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Irene Douglas

Homemaker

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Mrs. Irene W. Barton Douglas, 95, of 131 Alder Circle, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, in Brunswick.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Church of the Nazarene, Augusta, with the Rev. Jeff Hines officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta.

Mrs. Douglas, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include one son, Giles Barton, Augusta; one daughter, Mary B. Hitt, St. Simons Island; and 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 2044 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA 30906.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road.

Mrs. Ruth Jackson

Retired nursing assistant

Mrs. Ruth Jackson, 87, of 2541 Milledgeville Road, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at Blair House Nursing Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Southview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Survivors include two nephews, Johnny L. Metoyer and James Leon Metoyer Jr.; two nieces, Joann Hayes and Joyce McClenham, Augusta; and three sisters-in-law, Johnnie B. Metoyer, Florence Jackson, Augusta, and Amanda Gainer, Newport News, Va.

Friends may call at the residence of Linda Metoyer, 624 Bohler Ave.

Mr. Cleo Johnson

Army veteran

ALLENDALE, S.C. -- Mr. Cleo Johnson, 68, of 963 Wagner St., died Monday, April 6, 1998.

The funeral will be at noon Monday at Simpson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie C. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Smart cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Allendale County.

Mr. Johnson, a native of Allendale County, was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Simpson United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi Odoms Johnson; and one daughter, Mary Helen Johnson, Newark, N.J.

Cave Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnny Jones

Mr. Johnny Jones, of 539 W. Sixth St., died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Walker Memorial Park.

Mr. Jones, a native of Burke County, was an employee of the Waynesboro Sanitation Department.

Survivors include three sons, Abe Jones, New York, Michael Jones, West Virginia, and Santonio Ervin, Waynesboro; three daughters, Martha J. Hart Thomas, Hephzibah, Dianne Jones, Augusta, and Tonya Ervin, Waynesboro; four brothers, Alvin Reese, Wadley, Robert Jones and Larry Jones, both of Waynesboro, and James Jones, Augusta; four sisters, Ella Belle Jones and Joyce Ann Burnett, both of Savannah, Flossy Mae Douglass, Midville, and Susie Mae Moody, Detroit; and 18 grandchildren.

Mrs. Anna Kirby

Greenwood Mills retiree

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Mrs. Anna Bell Wells Kirby, 87, of 2009 S. Main St., died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Self Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Lawrence Johnson, Hayes Riddle and James Young officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Kirby, a native of Laurens County, was retired from Greenwood Mills and was a member of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas A. Kirby; two sons, James F. ``Jimmy" Kirby and Thomas E. ``Tommy" Kirby; one brother, Elmer Wells; one sister, Ruth K. Mahaffey; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dewitt Pressley, Guy Reid, Harold Boyd, Branch Hall, Jimmy Still and Myron Toney.

Honorary pallbearers will be ladies of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blyth Funeral Home.

Mr. Phillip Laird

Pool repairman

Mr. Phillip Lee Laird, 27, of 7032 Amarillo Circle, died Saturday, April 6, 1998, in Orlando, Fla.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Flowing Wells Congregational Holiness Church with the Rev. Bobby Renew officiating. Burial will be in Harlem cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Harlem.

Mr. Laird, a native of Aiken County, was a pool repairman.

Survivors include one son, Phillip Austin Laird, Orlando; his father, Franklin Laird, Florida; his mother, Dorothy Davis, Augusta; his stepfather, William Davis, Augusta; two brothers, Todd Franklin Laird and Jimmy Laird, both of Augusta; two sisters, Sheila Laird, Ohio, and Monica Laird, Augusta; two stepbrothers, William Davis, Augusta, and Tony Laird, South Carolina; and one stepsister, Mattie Davis, Augusta.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road.

Mr. Robert Mallard III

Mortgage banker

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Mr. Robert Lee Mallard III, 55, died Monday, April 6, 1998.

The funeral was Thursday at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Mallard, a native of Augusta, was a regional mortgage banker with Wachovia Bank and a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He had been a stockbroker with Interstate Johnson Lane and vice president and personal investment counselor with BB&T. He was a graduate of the University of Richmond, and he received his master's degree in marriage and family therapy from East Carolina University. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served as first lieutenant on the USS Turner.

Survivors include his wife, Janis Colbert Mallard; one stepson, Louis Colbert Holland, New Hampshire; two daughters, Caroline Mallard Rohs, Greenville, and Emilie Mallard Gray, Charlotte; one stepdaughter, Jana Holland Watkins, Raleigh; one sister, Charlotte Mallard French, Brandon, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
