Danielle Lynn Manus
HIAWASSEE – Danielle Lynn Manus died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at her home following an extended illness. She was 13. Born June 5, 1990, in Union County, she was the daughter of Rodney Kenneth Manus and Donna Lynn King Manus. She was a lifelong resident of Towns County and had attended Towns County Middle School.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Otis King, in 2001 and an aunt, Becky Manus Bradley, in 2000. Miss Manus was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her brother, Dallas John Manus; stepgrandfather, Bruce Lovell; grandparents, Diane Lovell, all of Hiawassee, Marilyn Dyer, Blairsville, Kenneth and Sallie Manus, Young Harris; great-grandmother, Mary Ruth Craig, Cleveland; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday at Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Harold Ledford officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Christeen Miller
Christeen Miller of Sautee-Nacoochee died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at BJC Nursing Home in Commerce following an extended illness. She was 93.
Mrs. Miller was born in Banks County, the daughter of the late Henry and Nancy Roberts Bell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, David P. Miller; daughter, Arlevia Gunter; and son, Paul Miller.
Survivors include her daughters, Laurene Chastain, Sautee-Nacoochee, Bonnie Sue Turner, Fayetteville, Martha Woodall, Cornelia, Mary Cannon, Sautee-Nacoochee, and Jeanie Hill, Woodland, Ala.; sons, Ted Miller, Cleveland, Jimmy Miller, Commerce, and David Miller, Alto; sister, Grace Seager, Gainesville; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Springway Baptist Church in Gainesville. The Rev. Donald Wilson officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Barrett Funeral Home, Cleveland, had charge of arrangements.
Lorene Thomason
Lorene Thomason of Cleveland died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness. She was 84.
Born in White County, Sister Thomason was the daughter of the late Charles Gene Wike Sr. and Ida Mae Wike. She was the founder and pastor of the Emmanuel Gospel Fellowship Church in White County for the past 40 years. She was called to the gospel ministry 57 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Thomason.
Survivors include her daughter, Doris Thomason, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Hoyt Hester, Evelyn and Rick Anglin, Linda and Edwin Nix and Lisa and Donald Hicks, all of Cleveland, Debby and Johnny Smith, Murrayville, and Betty and J.W. Wilson, Pine Bluff, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Cathy Thomason, Danny and Vicky Thomason, all of Cleveland, and Wayne and June Thomason, Loganville; sisters, Myrtle Wheeler, Imogene Autry, Christine McCollum, all of Cleveland, Yvonne Hicks and Louise Piano, both of Sautee-Nacoochee, and Winnell Anderson, McDonough; brothers, Berlin Wike and C.G. Wike Jr. both of Cleveland; 30 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday in Barrett Chapel. The Rev. Chris Anderson, the Rev. James Wyatt and the Rev. Aubrey McIntyre officiated. Burial was in Emmanuel Gospel Fellowship Cemetery.

Clyde Turner Sr.
Clyde Turner Sr. of Cleveland died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended illness. He was 83. Mr. Turner was born Nov. 16, 1920, in Union County to the late Ollie W. and Mary Thurmond Turner. In 1931 he moved to the Asbestos Community of White County, where he was reared. Mr. Turner was educated in White County Schools and attended Truett-McConnell College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippine Islands.
Mr. Turner founded Mt. Yonah Lumber Co. and was a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. Mr. Turner was active in Gideons International, former commissioner of White County, former director of the First National Bank of White County and a member of Yonah Masonic Lodge 382, Free & Accepted Masons.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Turner Crumley; brothers, Bill Turner, Ray Turner, Arnold Turner and Jack Turner; and sister, Willie Mae Blalock.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell Turner; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Turner and Joe Crane, Aiken, S.C., and Janna and John F. Lovell, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Clyde Jr. and Velma Turner, Cleveland; brother, Harold Turner, Cleveland; sisters, Ruby Blalock and Jessie Lou Chambers, both of Cleveland, and Oline Turner, Demorest; grandsons, Travis Turner, Marc Turner, Madison Crane, Jason Crane, Trey Crumley, Rory Crumley, Spencer Lovell, Luke Lovell and Hunter Lovell; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Turner and Easton Turner.
Funeral services were held Saturday at The Rock of Cleveland. The Rev. Dean Head, the Rev. Dean Bryant, the Rev. Doug Merck, Dr. Robert Massey and the Rev. Dennis Turner officiated. J.C. Freeman
J.C. Freeman of Cleveland died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 91.
Mr. Freeman was born in White County, the son of the late Dock John Freeman and Mary Elizabeth Sosebee Freeman. He was a farmer and member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Barrett Freeman, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, GeNeal and Emily Freeman, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Algene and the Rev. Loyd Martin, Linda and Harold Blalock, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Cherri and Joe Morrison, Holly and Kerry Smith, Ginger and Jesse Thomas, Jeff and Rebeca Blalock, Amy Blalock, Wes and Lillian Freeman; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Loy B. Turner
Loy B. Turner of Cleveland died Tuesday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following injuries sustained in an accident. Mr. Turner was 83.
He was born in White County, the son of the late Tom and Lula Freeman Turner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and attended Cleveland Church of God.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Wilson Turner; brothers, Marvin Turner, Claude Turner, Dewey Turner, Ellis Turner, Wallace Turner and Fredrick Turner; and sisters, Vera Mae Petty and Helena Cannon.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Moorhead, Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Buster Thomas, Cleveland; sons, Milton Turner, Cleveland, and David Turner, Hartwell; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jo Turner, Hartwell; brothers, Lamar Turner, Cleveland, and Arthur Turner, Dunwoody; special friend, Unzell Craven; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the chapel at Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Danny Brumfield, the Rev. Aubrey McIntyre and the Rev. Ross Palmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Cleveland Cemetery.

Richard Sears
James "Richard" Sears of Cleveland died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. He was 45.
Born April 4, 1959, in Habersham County, Mr. Sears had lived all his life in White County. He was employed by Concord Baptist Church in Clermont.
Mr. Sears was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Sears; grandparents, Robert and Annie Mae Edge and John and Etta Sears.
Survivors include his parents, Grady and Versie Sears, Cleveland; brother, Henry Lee Sears, Cleveland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and John Mullins, Betty and Bruce Davis, all of Cleveland, Carolyn and Sam Roberts, Gainesville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held May 30 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. James Dollar and the Rev. W.A. Jenkins officiated. Burial followed in Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Oscar Franklin Swansfeger II
Mr. Oscar Franklin Swansfeger II of Cleveland died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness. Mr. Swansfeger was 77.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late Oscar and Gertrude Swansfeger Sr. He had lived many years in Florida before moving to Georgia 19 years ago. Mr. Swansfeger was a veteran of World War II and had a long and distinguished career in the military, having served in the Navy, the Air Force and the Coast Guard.

Mr. Robert William (Bob) Childs, 70, of Cleveland died Monday at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Childs was born in Union Town, Penn., and had lived in Florida before moving to White County.
He was the son of the late William Childs. Mr. Childs was retired from Eastern Airlines and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Childs, Cleveland; daughter, Jeanine Childs, Evanston, Ill.; son, Michael Childs, Lighthouse Point, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Martha Pailes, Henderson, Nev.; mother, Margaret Childs, Allison, Penn.; brothers, Frank Childs, Allison, Penn., Bill Childs, Mentor, Ohio; niece, Sandy Anderson, St. Charles, Ill.; and several nephews.
Graveside services will be at noon Friday, May 28, 2004, at Evergreen Cemetery.

Janie R. McCord Woodcock
Janie R. McCord Woodcock died August 20, 2003 in Portland Oregon. She was 86. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 21, 2004, at Clarkston United Methodist Church, 3919 Church St. Clarkston, Ga. Born March 31, 1917, Janie was the daughter of Walter and Katherine McCord, long-time residents of Clarkston.
She is survived by two sons, Hue Rainey of Helen and Curt Woodcock of Portland, Oregon; and one daughter, Jan Woodcock of Black Mountain, N.C. She also had four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to stay after the service for an informal gathering in the Walter McCord Fellowship Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to a Humane Society in Janie Woodcock's name.

Margery Marie Cook Murphy
Mrs. Margery Marie Cook Murphy of Demorest died on Friday, May 21, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness. She was 79.
Born in Hamilton, Ohio, on Sept. 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Elbert C. and Nancy M. Pennington Cook. Mrs. Murphy was in accounting and bookkeeping for many years and was a member of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royce P. Murphy.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Murphy Dennis, Helen; son, Gary P. Murphy, Snellville; sister, Glady Garrett, Hamilton, Ohio; brothers: Joe Cook, Martinez; Paul Cook, San Diego; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Clarkesville. Father Thad Rudd officiated.

Private graveside service for the infant Farmer twin girls, daughters of Stacy and Kimberly Lynn Farmer of Mt. Airy, was held on Sunday, May 23, 2004, at 2 p.m. from the Glade Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Orman Knight officiated.
The infant girls are preceded in death by a grandmother, Margaret Deneice Yearwood of Mt. Airy.
In addition to their parents, survivors include grandparents, J. D. and Cornelia Farmer of Cleveland, grandfather, John Yearwood of Mt. Airy, and great grandmother, Lynn Beathard Hill of Cleveland.

Susan Callaway Bidgood
Susan Callaway Bidgood of Demorest died Friday, May 21, 2004, at her daughter's residence following an extended illness. She was 83.
Formerly of White County, Mrs. Bidgood was born in Putnam, County on July 14, 1920, to the late Thomas Wooten and Esther Dearman Callaway. She was retired from the state of Georgia. Mrs. Bidgood was a member of the First Methodist Church, Cleveland.
She is survived by her son, William T. Bidgood Jr., Palm Harbor, Fla.; daughter, Carolyne Davis, Demorest; brother, James W. Callaway, Jesup; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Some of Mrs. Bidgood's fondest memories were of her days in Eatonton and all her family and friends in Putnam County. Services were held at 11a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the First Methodist Church, Eatonton, with the Rev. Steve Winter officiating.

Lenora Gooch Hicks
MURRAYVILLE - Lenora Gooch Hicks died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at the Chatuge Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was 89.
Born in White County on Oct. 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Matt and Nettie Palmer Gooch. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Hicks, and a son, Shorty Hicks.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-laws, William and Mabell Hicks, Lithonia, the Rev. Tim and Joyce Hicks, Murrayville; grandchildren, Cathy and Bobby Moon, Martha and Robert Todd, Kim and Andy Caldwell, Stacie and Steven Reece, Tammy and Jason Watkins, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services: 3 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. The Rev. Phillip Robinson and the Rev. Franklin Grant officiating. Burial following in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church No. 2 Cemetery.
