Mr. Bobby Howard Cason
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Mr. Bobby Howard Cason, 72, passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Dublin, Ga., on Thursday, February 8, 2007. He was the son of the late Harris and Bertha Howard Cason of Columbia County.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by a brother, Donald A. Cason, Thomson.
At his request, his body was donated to the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Thomas Gordon Newman
THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Thomas Gordon Newman, Jr., 62, husband of Mrs. Barbara G. Newman of Gardner Dr. entered into rest Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at the residence.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 16, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Reverend Charlie Benson officiating. Interment was at 4 p.m. at Reedy Creek Baptist Church in Jefferson County.
Mr. Newman was a native of Richmond County and was employed with Davis Appliance. He had served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Duval Masonic Lodge # 159 F & AM and a Shriner.
Additional survivors include; his mother, Mrs. Francis B. Newman of Augusta, one son, Steven Kitchens of North Augusta, two grandchildren, Emma Kitchens and Daniel Tyler Kitchens, three brothers, H. Gene Newman of Ft. Worth, Texas, William Wallace Newman of Thomson, Jimmy Larry Newman of North Augusta, two sisters Barbara Newman Hillman of Thomson and Nettie Valentine of California.

Mr. Thomas Reuben Burnside, Jr.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Thomas Reuben Burnside, Jr., went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church, Augusta, 642 Telfair St., with Dr. George W. Robertson officiating. A graveside service and burial was held at 2 p.m. at Westview cemetery in Thomson.
He was born in Augusta on April 7, 1938, to Thomas R. Burnside, Sr., and Lois Brand Burnside, formerly of Thomson. Mr. Burnside was educated at University of Georgia where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega, Phi Delta Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa and Gridiron. After earning both his BBA and LLM degrees in 1961, he joined the Georgia Bar and moved to Augusta where he later founded the law firm of Burnside Wall, LLP. He was a member of the Georgia Bar Association (Board of Governors, 1993-present), the Augusta Bar Association (President, 1980), the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (President, 1981), American Board of Trial Advocates, Fellow International Society of Barristers, American Bar Association, the Georgia Bar Foundation (Life Fellow), International Academy of Trial Lawyers, Kiwanis Club of Augusta (Board of Directors), State of Georgia YMCA (Board of Directors). He was former Chairman of the Board of both Westminster Schools, Augusta and Augusta Preparatory Day School, and a founding member of Westlake Country Club. Along with many other awards and achievements, Mr. Burnside received the Tradition of Excellence Award from the State Bar of Georgia in 1990 and was listed in the Best Lawyers of America from 1993 until the time of is death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dianne McGill Burnside; his daughter, Jenny B. Davison and her husband, Bill; his son, Thomas R. Burnside, III, and his wife, Donna; his daughter, Laurie Elizabeth "Beth" Burnside; and six grandchildren: Aubrey Burnside, Ben Burnside, Hampton Burnside, Bill Davison, Stephen Davison and Crissie Davison.
Pallbearers were Hon. George H. Carley, Michael S. Barnes, Hon. E. Purnell Davis, Hon. T. Raworth Williamson, Jerry B. Dye, W. Hunter Baggs, Jr., Ross H. Pittman, O. Torbitt Ivey, Jr., Michael L. Philpot, Timothy F. Maund, Jack W. Wilson, Dr. Joseph W. Tollison and Peter L. Banks.

DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Melvin Watson Gay, 70, died Wednesday evening, February 14, 2007, in the V. A. Medical Center in Augusta.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Rockefeller and Rev. Richard Kitchens officiating. Burial followed in the Walker Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shane Jenkins, Clarence Holliman, Billy Gay, Daniel Gay, Ray Gay and Timmy Gay.
A native of Dearing, Mr. Gay was a son of the late Horace and Nellie Rogers Gay. He was a U. S. Army Veteran and was the owner of the Ridge Tavern in Pea Ridge.
Mr. Gay is survived by companion Georgia Barrett, of Dearing; two daughters and sons-in-law: Pat and Mike Jenkins, of Thomson, Sherry and James Key, of Dearing; sister Elizabeth and Joe Young of Thomson; brother, Herman and Henrietta Gay of Warrenton; three grandchildren: Tonya and Curtis Whitaker, Shane Jenkins, Scott and Martha Key; two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

THOMSON, Ga. - Homegoing services for Mr. Ruben Grant, Jr. 94, of Thomson, were held on Sunday, February 18, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church in Thomson, with Rev. F. D. Favors officiating. Interment was in the Sandy Grove A.M.E. Church, Warrenton.
Survivors inclucde two sons, Ruben Grant, III, and Johnny B. Grant; two daughters, Verannett Grant Collins and Lutica Grant; all of Thomson; two brothers, Luvie Grant & Homer Grant, both of Thomson; one sister, Annie Griffin, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Emma Lee Grant, Thomson, and Delia Grant, Dearing; one son-in-law, Eddie L. THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. John Edward James, Sr., 72, entered into rest February 19, 2007 at St. Josephs Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2007, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harlon Noles, Rev. Newton Cranford, Jr. and Rev. Charles Green officiating. Interment will follow at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson.
Pallbearers will be Bennett Boulineau, Jim Votaw, Gary Usry, Jason Milburn, Dwight Prescott and Johnny Hadden.
Mr. James was born in Jefferson County on April 24, 1934, and was the son of the late Joe James and the late Ada McGraw James. He was retired from the engineering department at the Veterans Administration. Mr. James was a member of the Wrens Church of God, was past coordinator of the Trailblazers Senior Adult Group of the Wrens Church of God and was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. The family said that Mr. James was a loving husband, caring father and wonderful friend.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne W. James; sons - Randy Edward James, Sr., Sheridan, Mich., Mark Leroy James, Sr., Thomson, John Edward James, Jr., Thomson, daughter, Brenda Newsome, Avera, Ga.; brother - Jack James, Lakeland, Fla.; sisters - Louise Coe, Prattville, Ala., Sara Cranford, Thomson; Grandchildren - Randy Edward James, Jr., Jennifer Eckert, Rebecca Oliver, Samuel James, Mark Leroy James, Jr., Abigail Duncan, Matthew James, Melissa James, Pam Norton, Allison Unruh, Tyler James, Andi James; great- grandchildren- Alex James, Jessie James, Stephen James, Dalton Brown, Anslee James, Brianna Unruh, Jasmine Ibriham.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Katie Mae Williams Brown, wife of the late John Burns Brown, entered into rest Saturday, February 10, 2007 in Augusta.
Survivors include two daughters, Fay Faglier and her husband Wilbur and Kay Norton and her husband Herbert, both of Augusta; one son, Don Brown and his wife, Brenda, of Thomson; six grand- children and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her friends, family and her senior church family.
A memorial service was held Friday, February 16, 2007 at 7 p.m. at the Church Of The Nazarene Of Augusta on Lumpkin Road.

Mr. Herbert G. Newsome
THOMSON, Ga. -- Mr. Herbert G. Newsome, 63, of Thomson, entered into rest Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at McDuffie County Hospital.
Mr. Newsome was a lifelong resident of the Augusta area and was an automobile mechanic. Mr. Newsome was a family man that enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and he will be greatly missed.
Graveside services were held Monday, March 7, 2005 at Westview cemetery with Rev. Kelly McKnight officiating.
Survivors are three sons: Tommy Gordon Newsome, Randy Lee Newsome, and John Wayne Newsome, all of Augusta and three daughters; Patricia Ann Weeks of Augusta, Tammy Marie Joslyn of Waynesboro and Rachel Marie Weeks of Waynesboro and a grandson; Roy Newsome of Waynesboro and one brother, Douglas S. Newsome, Jr. and a sister, Glenda Sapp.
Mrs. Evelyn Martin Mobley Flake

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Evelyn Martin Mobley Flake, 96, died Thursday, March 3, 2005.
A native of Burke County, she was a life long resident of the Greenscut community. Mrs. Flake was the daughter of the late Luther Martin and Emily Collins Martin. She was the widow of the late Owen Mobley and the late W. L. Flake. She was the oldest living member of the Greenscut United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Flake was preceded in death by her daughter, Emma Ruth Mobley Salemi; her sisters Beatrice Martin McNorrill of Waynesboro; Mae Martin Saxon of Greenscut; and Lorena Martin Usher of Greenscut.
Survivors include one son and one daughter-in-law, Thomas Lovett Mobley and Kay Mobley of Thomson; a brother Jerry Miller Martin (Estelle) of Greenscut and a sister Elizabeth Martin McNorrill of Savannah, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday March 6, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home in Waynesboro with Dr. Francis Ford officiating. Interment was in Magnolia cemetery in Waynesboro.

HARLEM, Ga. -- Entered into rest Saturday, March 5, 2005, at the University Hospital, Mr. Gary H. Silas, 81, husband of Mrs. Jerrie Silas, of Harlem.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Harlem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Vest officiating. Burial was in the South Harlem Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Silas, a native of Glascock County, was the son of the late Willie and Carrie Silas. He served in World War II Army Service Co. 349th 88 Inf., Fifth Army Alassis Italy. Before changing careers, he was owner of Silas Jewelry Stores in Harlem, Wrens, Louisville, and Sandersville. He had retired as an assistant Fire Chief at Fort Gordon, and was a retired fireman on the Harlem Fire Department. Mr. Silas had served on the Harlem City Council and was a member of the Harlem Masonic Lodge #276. He was a member of the NARF Thomson Chapter and a member of the Harlem United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Thomas Silas, Roy Silas, and Billy Silas.
Survivors include his wife, Jerrie Silas; three sons, Cary Silas Thomson, Tom Silas, Harlem, and Jackie Norris, Harlem; three daughters, Nancy Silas Sator, Thomson, Linda Corley, Appling, and Wendy Snellings, of Harlem; two daughters-in-law, Brenda Silas and Francine Norris; three sons-in-law, John Corley, Mike Snellings, and Michael Sator; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bob Brown, Gene Sullivan, Bobby Culpepper, Steve Camp, Jimmie Lewis, and Greg Stokes. Honorary Pallbearers were Harlem United Methodist men and members of the Harlem Masonic Lodge.

Mr. John N. Maxwell III
THOMSON, Ga. -- Mr. John N. Maxwell III, 81, beloved husband of Mrs. Catherine Maxwell, of Dogwood Drive, Thomson, died Monday, February 28, 2005 in the University Hospital.
Graveside services were held Thursday, March 3, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jim Ramsey officiating.
Mr. Maxwell was a native of Bowman, Georgia, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was retired from National Homes and had retired from the U.S. Postal Services as a rural mail carrier. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a Mason and a member of the Thomson First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Catherine Maxwell, Thomson; his daughter, Kaye Maxwell, Hernando, Miss; his son, John N. Maxwell IV, Winter Haven, Fla. and two grandchildren, Kim Maxwell and Jill Maxwell.

Mrs. Virginia Holliman Adams
THOMSON, Ga. -- Mrs. Virginia Holliman Adams, 86, of Thomson, entered into rest March 7, 2005 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Marvin Albert Adams.
Survivors include Ray Adams (Barbara), Washington, Roy Adams (Laverne), Thomson, Terry Adams (Kim), Thomson; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Adams was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County and was the daughter of the late Steve Holliman and the late Dilly Hawes Holliman. She was also a homemaker and a member of Washington Heights Baptist Church.
Mrs. Adams was also preceded in death by two sons, Shelton Adams and Bennie Adams.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Sonny Peevy and L.H. Fowler officiating. Interment followed in Westview Cemetery.

His memories shall linger in the lives of those he touched and loved. THOMSON, Ga. -- Mrs. Alberta D'Antignac Cofer of Thomson, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005.
Her legacy lives on in the cherished memories of three nieces, Ola Kate Parks, Margie Roberts and Emma Reese, all of Thomson; seven nephews, Leroy, Bill, Henry, Bobby, Joe, Gub, and David Roberts, all of Thomson; three step-sons, Robert, Arthur and Minister Paul (Sherri) Cofer, Jonathan and Zonia, all of Philadelphia; one sister-in-law, Annie Cannon of Connecticut; a host of other relatives and friends. One daughter, Edna, preceded her in death. Also, a very dear friend, Loise Ivey, of Thomson.
Funeral service was held Monday, March 7, 2005, 1 p.m. at New Zion Hill A.M.E. Church, Thomson. Minister Latham Mills presided.
