Robert C. Sheppard

Robert C. “Bobby” Sheppard, age 72, of Stockbridge, Georgia, formerly of Stone Mountain, died March 10, 2008. Mr. Sheppard retired from Frito-Lay and enjoyed camping.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Allen Sheppard of Stockbridge; children, Scott and Penny Sheppard of Monroe, Angie and Allen Dobbs of Conyers, Debbie and Andy Williams of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Brad and Chad Sheppard, Tommy and Amanda Viar, Brittany and Brooke Williams, Kourtney Pegram; five great grandchildren; brother, Forrest Sheppard of Newborn; sisters, Shirley Davis and Virginia Wilson, both of Covington and Edna J. Baldwin of Florida.

Services were held on March 13 at Horis A. Ward Rockdale Chapel with Pastor Michael Soop officiating. Interment Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Stone Mountain. Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, Rockdale Chapel, in charge of arrangements.

Purnie Marie Upchurch

Mrs. Purnie Marie Upchurch, age 80, of Locust Grove, Georgia died March 11, 2008. Mrs. Upchurch was born in Cullman County, Alabama. the daughter of the late Rachael Tiney Huffstutler and William Gorman. Purnie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family, friends, gardening, and hummingbirds. Her son, Arnold Upchurch preceded her in death.

Survivors are her husband, Otis Upchurch of Locust Grove; sons and daughters-in-law; Richard and Lauren Upchurch of N. Dartmouth, Massachusetts and Bruce and Mary Ann Upchurch of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren, Erin, Stephen, Jason and Melanie; sisters, Nola Hicks and Barbara Shepherd; brothers, Dwight and Larry Gorman; several nieces and nephews.

Services were held March 15, in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Gilreath officiating. Interment Locust Grove Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Sterling Buffington Woodruff

Mrs. Sterling Buffington Woodruff, age 92, of Stock-bridge, Georgia died March 11, 2008. She was born in Lyndale to the late D. R. and Gertrude Marion Burch. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Messier and her sister, Evelyn Raines.

Mrs. Woodruff is survived by her daughters, Carleen Strickland and Betty Jean Burch, both of Stockbridge, Maudine Buff-ington Denmon of Douglasville; sons, Hiram Buffington of Wisconsin, Wayne Buffington of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, W. O. Burch of Covington, Monroe Burch of Macon; and sister, Sarah Durrance of Glenville.

Services were held on March 14 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Captain Jose’ and Candi Marquez with Salvation Army officiating. Interment Riverview Memorial Cemetery in Smyrna. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Alexander Gramaglia Gramm

Mr. Alexander “Al” Gramaglia Gramm, age 83, of McDonough, Georgia died March 12, 2008. Mr. Gramm was born in Massachusetts, the son of the late Rose and Samuel Gramaglia. Mr. Gramm served his country in the US Air Force during WWII. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his family, socializing with friends and he never met a stranger. He retired with Delta Airlines with 30 plus years of service, he was a Mason and a Shriner and enjoyed cooking and golf. He was preceded in death by several siblings.

Survivors are his wife , Marilyn Gramm of McDonough; children, Cynthia (Dan) Siegel of Fayetteville, Mike (Lisa) Byrd of Senoia, Alex Gramm of Massachusetts, Rhonda (Rich) Gailey of Covington; grandchildren, Renee Siegel, Jason and Amanda Byrd, and Parker and Rylee Gailey ; great granddaughter, Marissa Byrd; and cousin, Ann Paradise of Sharon, Massachusetts.

Services were held March 17 at McDonough Christian Church with Rev. Bill Gailey and Rev. Paul Leslie officiating. Interment Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Alphonso Cornwall, III

Kenneth Alphonso Cornwall, III, age 50, of McDonough, Georgia died March 13, 2008. He was born in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Cornwall loved his puppy "Max A Million" and "Lucky". He enjoyed working outdoors in the yard and working on cars, playing cards, music and working on the computer. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, a brother-in-law, three aunts, two uncles and his dog “Alphie”.

Mr. Cornwall is survived by his wife, Clara M. Cornwall of McDonough; daughters, Sheila Martin of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Charlotte Robinson of McDonough, VickieAndrews of Stockbridge; son, Vincent Robinson of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; parents, Kenneth A. and Julia B. Cornwall Jr. of Decatur; sisters, Michele C. Cornwall-Carrion of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Sherry A. Cornwall-Jackson of Decatur; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; five brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, two uncles; two aunts; two nieces; five nephews, numerous cousins and a host of friends.

Services were held on March 19 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Dudley Rose officiating. Interment Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Charles Embry Rainwater

Mr. Charles Embry Rainwater, age 93, of McDonough, Georgia died March 13, 2008. Mr. Rainwater was born in Fulton County, the son of the late Bertie Bell Henderson and Charles Edward Rainwater. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. He retired with the federal government. He received a letter of commendation from the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Mr. Rainwater was a gardener who enjoyed growing prize winning crepe myrtles. He enjoyed his family and friends and deep sea fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rainwater; sister, Agnes Horton and brothers, Earl Rainwater and Henderson Rainwater.

Survivors are his daughter Gail (Richard) Sanders of McDonough; step daughter, Judy Harrison of Richmond, Virginia; sisters, Evelyn Dobbins of Dalton, Odelle Guensch of Delaware, Jean Grant of Carrollton; brothers, Oliver (Sarah) Rainwater of Union City, Julius (Gloria) Rainwater of Conyers, and Dawsie (Mary) Rainwater of Jonesboro; three grandchildren and four great granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held March 17 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Pirkle officiating. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

John Thomas Clem

John Thomas (Tommy) Clem, age 52, of Rex, Georgia died March 14, 2008. He was born in Atlanta to the late Carlton Richard and Mary Elizabeth Scott Clem.

Mr. Clem is survived by daughters, Jeanette Cowin, Mary LeeAnn Clem, Dawn Marie Clem; son, Daniel Moore, all of San Antonio, Texas ; grandsons, Benny Gonzales, Michael Maldonado, Mark Dimas, Gavin Clem; grand daughters, Mercedes Moore, Breanna Cowin, Victoria Cowin, Alexa Moore; sisters, Marie Clem of Stockbridge, Linda Harvey of Jackson, Paula Garner of White Plains; brother, Rusty Clem of McDonough; significant other, Gerri Jackson of McDonough. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
