Gene Shaeffer, 49

Gene Shaeffer, 49, passed away Friday afternoon, February 1, 2008, at Tattnall Community Hospital from an apparent heart attack.
The Pennsylvania native had lived in Pooler many years moving to Reidsville three and a half years ago. He was the owner of All Around Repairs and was an US Army Veteran. Gene was an avid fisherman and hunter and attended Antioch Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Shaeffer of Reidsville; his mother, Phyllis Shaeffer of Savannah; two daughters and son - in - law, Jamie and Timmy Monroe of Cobbtown and Kristen Cromer of Reidsville; a son, Dustin Cromer of Reidsville; a sister, Laurel Pontbriand of Savannah; three brothers and sisters - in - laws, Mike Shaeffer and his fiance’ Bessie Watson of Savannah, Paul and Shelley Shaeffer of Jacksonville, FL, and Daniel and Wendy Shaeffer of Savannah; two grandchildren, Abbi and Evan Monroe both of Cobbtown.
Pallbearers were Timmy Monroe, Dan Bennett, David Williams, Paul Shaeffer, Paul Shaeffer Jr., Jarrith Fischer, Todd Padgett, and Mike Shaeffer.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 4, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Edwards officiating. Interment followed in the Old Anderson Church Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John Sikes, 54

John Sikes, 54, passed away late Saturday night, February 2, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Cobbtown most of his life. He was a self - employed carpenter and was of Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his son, Trent Sikes of Glennville; parents, W.L. and Betty Sikes of Cobbtown; sister, Sara Sikes of Cobbtown; grandson, Patrick Sikes of Glennville; nephew, Robbie Sikes of Cobbtown.
Pallbearers were Robbie Sikes, Brad Martin, Brad Davis, Duncan Davis, Jerry Powell, and Patrick Ansell.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, with Rev. K.C. Seabury officiating in the Sunlight cemetery in Cobbtown.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Louis Sikes, 77

Robert Louis Sikes, 77, of Collins died Monday, February 4, 2008, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native, son of the late Stanley and Cleola Boyette Sikes, returned to his home place in 1990. Louis retired as a civil engineer at Ft. Stewart and loved becoming a farmer. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church at Claxton and was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Sikes and son - in - law, Dale Morris.
Survivors are the mother of his children, Mildred Anderson Sikes of Vidalia; son, Robert Sikes of Savannah; daughters, Linda (Dennis) Kowalski of Mabeleton, Angela (Bruce) Bass and Brenda Morris both of Vidalia; brother, William Taft (Edna) Sikes of Savannah; grandchildren, Lyndsay Bass, Patrick Kowalski and Courtney Morris; and nephew, Kerry Sikes.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery. Minister will be Rev. Don Moye.
Pallbearers are Joe Davis, Keith Mack, Phillip Collins, Kinyard Jarriel, Jack Boyette and Calvin Anderson.
Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, POB 2277, Vidalia, GA 30474.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Joe Dwight Tatum, 91

Joe Dwight Tatum, 91, died Monday, February 4, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing Home, after a long illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of his life working in the timber industry and farming. He was a member of Battle Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Jones Tatum; sister, Merle Durrence; brothers, Curtis Dewitt, John C. and Eugene “Tiny” Tatum.
Survivors include daughters and sons - in - law, Marjorie and Lemmon McCorkle of Claxton and Betty and Wayne Kennedy of Glennville; sister, Myrtice Sikes of Glennville; brother and sisters - in - law, Willie Joe and Joann Tatum of Glennville and Nell Parker Tatum of Glennville; grandchildren, Tammy Dasher, Reese McCorkle, Jan Burke, Tony Kennedy, Joey McCorkle, Tommy Kennedy, Terry McCorkle and Dana Kennedy; fifteen great - grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 7 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Elder W.H. Durrence officiating. Burial will follow in Battle Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Joey McCorkle, Terry McCorkle, Reese McCorkle, Tony Kennedy, Tommy Kennedy and Dana Kennedy.
Remembrances may be made to Battle Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Jesse Cranford, 323 Cranford Lane, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Annie Ruth Tyler, 85

Annie Ruth Tyler, 85, passed away January 30, 2008, after a long illness. She was living at Crofton Convalescent Nursing Home in Maryland.
The Tattnall County native was a homemaker and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Maryland and a former member of Cresthill Baptist Church in Savannah.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Tyler of Maryland and Earl Tyler of Virginia; three daughters, Brenda Jewell, Betty Sullivan and Deanna Klovensky, all of Maryland; one sister, Mary Evans of Florida; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held February 9, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Shiloh cemetery in Reidsville, GA. Remembrances may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association, 1899 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA.

Judy Ann Patrick Westmoreland, 53

Mrs. Judy Ann Patrick Westmoreland, 53, of Twin City died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Jefferson County Hospital after a sudden illness. A native of Toombs County, Judy moved to Twin City in 2003. She was the owner and operator of Patrick’s Premier Pinestraw and attended the Lyons Freewill Baptist Church. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, D.L. Patrick and Polly Currie.
Judy is survived by two daughters, Tracy Ann Hamilton of Cobbtown, and Stacy and her husband, G.W. Williford of Lyons; five grandchildren, Dustin Williford, Madison Hamilton, Tucker Williford, Flint Nail and River Harbuck; four brothers, Larry Patrick of Jacksonville, FL, Michael Patrick of Swainsboro, Johnny Patrick of Lagrange and Denny Gregory; two sisters, Brenda Patrick of Gainesville, FL, and Michelle Gregory of Lakecity, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., from the Lyons Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverend Rick Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of the arrangements.

Rafael Volpe, 73

Mr. Rafael Volpe, 73, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 5, 2008, at his residence under the care of Community Hospice.
The Puerto Rico native had lived in New York many years moving to Reidsville twenty - two years ago. He was a Head Chef for the Rocking Horse Ranch in New York for thirty - five years and recently retired from Toombs County Middle School. He was of member of the Lake View Full Gospel Praise & Worship Center in Reidsville.

James K. Conley, 88

Mr. James K. Conley, 88, died Thursday morning, March 27, 2008, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah after a brief illness.
He was a native of and lived most of his life in Toombs County where he retired as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Spikes Conley; a child, Mabel Nadine Conley; his second wife, Gladys Wildes Conley; his parents, Grover Cleveland Conley and Mabel Davis Conley; a son, James Kenneth Conley; and a sister, Willie Lane.
The survivors include two daughters and sons - in - law, Norma Jean and Irvin Davis of Waycross, and Nancy Karen and Wayne Moran, of Sanford, FL; three step - children, Kenneth Wildes of Toombs County, Tony Wildes of Toombs County and Patsy Wallace of Glynn County; 11 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one sister, Ina Mae Amos of Toombs County; one brother, Cecil Conley of Burke County; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, 126 Jordan St., Reidsville, GA 30453. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
Music Funeral Home, Waycross, GA is in charge of local arrangements.

Portia Ann Halford, 64

Mrs. Portia Ann Halford, 64, passed away Sunday night, March 30, 2008, at the Tattnall Healthcare Center in Reidsville. The Chatham County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker and attended Abundant Faith PH Church.
She is survived by: son and daughter - in - law, Daniel and Sandra Halford of Collins; two daughters and sons - in - law, Connie and Jim Ward, and Melissa and David Sharpe all of Kingsport, TN; nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted 6:00 pm Thursday, April 3 at the Believers Church of Reidsville conducted by Pastor Sherry Hill.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home is serving the Halford family.
