ORA L. SMITH
UNIONVILLE - ORA L. SMITH, age 92 of Bloomfield and former Unionville, Iowa resident died December 12, 2006 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born
August 11, 1914 in Davis County, Iowa to Eli and Ara Ann Bridgeman Smith. She married
Henry Faye Smith March 27, 1937 in Bunch, Iowa. He preceded her in death January 28, 1981. She was a resident of Davis County most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Unionville Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son Carl Smith of Drakesville, Iowa; a granddaughter; 2 great granddaughters and a sister Blanche Cantrell of Bloomfield, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers Rosco and Alva Smith and 4 sisters Vergie Smith, Elsa Coop, Ruth Doll and Beulah Smith.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday December 15, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Richard Friend officiating. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday with the family present from 6:00-7:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the Taylor Cemetery.
ELMO HARRIS
PULASKI - ELMO HARRIS, age 89 of Pulaski, Iowa died November 27, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born
November 19, 1917 in Schuyler County, Missouri to William and Edna Jarvis Harris. He married
Mae Stookesberry May 26, 1940 in Lancaster, Missouri. She preceded him in death June 14, 2001. He lived in Davis County most of his life and was a farmer and carpenter.
He is survived by a son Danny (Georgia) Harris of Pulaski, Iowa; 3 grandsons and 3 sisters Myrtle Hudson, Mildred Harris and Maxine McGrew all of Bloomfield, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter Patricia Sickle and a grandson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday November 30, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Kramer Smith officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Open visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to his family.
ROBERT W. HARNDEN
BLOOMFIELD - ROBERT W. HARNDEN, age 56 of Bloomfield died August 29, 2006 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born
April 3, 1950 in Albia, Iowa to Abraham C. and Carolyn Corrine Manos Harnden. He married
Rachel Mason October 5, 1975 in Floris, Iowa. He had been a resident of Davis County most of his life. He was affiliated with the Word of Life Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife; a son Robert Reeves of Washington, Iowa; a daughter Candace Meeker of Ottumwa, Iowa; a brother Abrum Harnden of California; 3 sisters Debbie Edger and Carol Bradley both of California and Linda Fry of Sebring, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters Thelma Harnden, Connie Davis and Loretta Boatman.
The body has been cremated. No services are planned. A memorial has been established to his family and may be sent to 308 N. Buckeye St. Bloomfield, IA 52537. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
JEANETTE R. FARRIER
BLOOMFIELD - JEANETTE R. FARRIER, age 60 of Bloomfield died August 28, 2006 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She was born
October 1, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa to Gilbert and Ruth Lyons Pullen. She was a 1963 graduate of Moravia High School. She married
Richard Ripka and later married
Les Farrier. She was a certified nursing assistant in home care. She was affiliated with the Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Bloomfield and was serving on the Heartland Humane Society Board in Ottumwa.
She is survived by a daughter Lorri (Raul) Tranquilino of Bloomfield; 3 grandchildren Josh Archer, Zach Ripka and Isabella Tranquilino; a brother Mike Bridgman of Ottumwa and 2 sisters Kathy Pulse of Eldon and Linda Robinson of Bloomfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Charles Bridgman and a sister Patricia Pullen.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday September 1, 2006 at the Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Bloomfield with Rev. Rick G. Rigney officiating. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The family will be present from 6:00-8:00 PM for visitation. Memorials in lieu of flowers have been established to the Heartland Humane Society and the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Oncology Center.
MUREL E. BEAVER
BLOOMFIELD - MUREL E. BEAVER, age 81 of Bloomfield died August 22, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born
June 28, 1925 in Farmington, Arkansas to Loss W. and Minnie Swope Beaver. He married
Joan McGee May 27, 1951 in Memphis, Missouri. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 106th Infantry Division and was in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. He had been a resident of Bloomfield since 1951 and was a lineman for the REC in Bloomfield for several years. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. He was a 58 year member and Past Master of Ottumwa Lodge #16 AF & AM and Franklin Lodge #14 AF & AM in Bloomfield. He was also a District Lecturer and Past Junior Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of Iowa AF & AM.
He is survived by his wife; 2 sons Kelly Beaver of Bloomington, Illinois and Kevin Beaver of Hobart, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren and a sister Sybil Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Keith Beaver and a sister Loss Ann McNeil.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday August 26, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Open visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday. Masonic services by Ottumwa Lodge #16 AF & AM, will be at 6:30 PM Friday with family visitation following until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Boys Little League.
LaVERN O. McMAINS
BLOOMFIELD - LaVERN O. McMAINS, age 94 left this life and joined his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ in heaven, on August 21, 2006, after a brief illness. LaVern was a lifelong member of the Mark Baptist Church and Davis County until 2003 when he and his wife, Helen, moved to Mason City, Iowa to be closer to their daughter.
LaVern was born
on November 7, 1911 to Alva and Mertie McMains and was raised in the Mark, Iowa area. He attended Bloomfield High School graduating in 1931.
LaVern accepted Christ at age 11 and continued serving Christ all his life, holding almost every position in the church. He married
Helen Kimball November 25, 1933 and to this union three children were born. They farmed for 45 years in the Mark, Iowa area. His life was centered on the church, family and hard work.
LaVern retired in 1978 and they moved to Bloomfield and lived there for 25 years before their move to Mason City, Iowa. LaVern loved the outdoors and generously helped all the neighbors with their lawns while his health permitted. In Mason City, they lived in a condo a block away from their daughter and her husband. They joined the First Baptist church where their son-in-law is the pastor.
LaVern loved to read the Bible, attend church services, garden, visit and watch old Westerns. He and Helen had been married
72 years 9 months. Their children had hosted many celebrations honoring anniversaries and birthdays with family gathering from all over the United States to be with them.
Survivors include his wife Helen; three children Charles (Judy) of Mesa, Arizona, Karen (Ron) of Mason City, Iowa and Phil of Bloomfield, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Annabelle Kimball; nieces; nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Wilma Dixon, Leone Lyons, Maxine Allen and their spouses and one nephew J.W. Dixon.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials to be made to the Mark Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa Friday, August 25, 2006 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ronald Stein officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, August 24, 2006, 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery with Rev. Boyd Lyons officiating.
RALPH O. WILFAWN
BLOOMFIELD - RALPH O. WILFAWN, age 83 of Bloomfield died August 20, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born
July 10, 1923 in Bunch, Iowa to Leo and Grace Childs Wilfawn. He married
Jeanine Harman May 18, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was a lifetime resident of Davis County and served as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a custodian at Davis County Community High School and the Bloomfield Post Office. He was affiliated with the Church of the Open Bible in Bloomfield, was a member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield and was past president of the Davis County Little League.
He is survived by his wife; 3 sons Melvin (Linda) Wilfawn of Fairfield, Iowa, Mike (Vicki) Wilfawn of Overland Park, Kansas and Mark (Marla) Wilfawn of Bloomfield, Iowa; 9 grandchildren Erika (Chuck) Coulter, Corrie (Mitchell) Sorrels, Chad Wilfawn, Jason (Angie) Wilfawn, Jacki (Nick) Nabor and Drew, Blake, Connor and Stephyn Wilfawn; 8 great grandchildren; a brother Leon Wilfawn of Albia and 2 sisters Dorothy Huffman of Ottumwa, Iowa and Pat Weideman of Dubuque, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great granddaughter Mia Nabor; 2 sisters Esther Buck and 1 in infancy and 2 brothers Russell and Lawrence Wilfawn.
Cremation has been accorded as per his wishes. Graveside services with military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield, will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday August 23, 2006 at the IOOF Cemetery with Pastor Charles Courtney officiating. No visitation is planned. A memorial has been established to the Davis County Boys and Girls Little League.
BEATRICE M. SLEETH
OTTUMWA - BEATRICE M. SLEETH, age 91 of Ottumwa and former Davis County resident went home to be with Jesus and Dad August 14, 2006 at Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born
November 24, 1914 in Davis County, Iowa to Everett and Inez Benge Stufflebeem. She married
Clarence L. Sleeth July 2, 1932 in Lancaster, Missouri. He preceded her in death January 17, 1995. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Davis County most of her life. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Assembly of God in Ottumwa.
She is survived by a son Galen (Janice) Sleeth of Bloomfield; 3 daughters Evelyn Anderson, Kay (Wilbur) Livingston and Karren (Ralph) Livingston all of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren; a brother Rev. E. J. Stufflebeem of Lake Placid, Florida and a sister Alma Lanferman of Bloomfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 grandsons Keith Pilcher and Larry Sleeth; 4 brothers Milo and Wilbur Stufflebeem and 2 in infancy and a sister in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday August 18, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. E. J. Stufflebeem officiating. Burial will be in the West Grove Cemetery in West Grove, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to Hospice, Inc.
JOANNE RUPE
BLOOMFIELD - JOANNE RUPE, age 71 of Bloomfield died August 11, 2006 at her home. She was born
January 19, 1935 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Earl and Verta Kratzer Latimer. She married
Clarence Archie Rupe September 16, 1952 in Macon, Missouri. He preceded her in death December 6, 2002. She lived in Bloomfield most of her life and had been a nurse in the area. She also owned and operated a business as a seamstress and Videoland in Bloomfield for several years. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church, the Davis County Historical Society and the Davis County Fine Arts Council. She had also been involved with the boy and girl scouts and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and various other organizations.
She is survived by a daughter Janna (Mark) Bader of Potosi, Wisconsin; 3 sons Curt Rupe of Vinton, Iowa, Jeff (Leanna) Rupe of North Liberty, Iowa and Gregg Rupe of Bloomfield, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 2 sisters Jacquie Huggins of Newton, Iowa and Lu Eirls of Sunnyvale, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson Kane Rupe; a brother John Latimer and a sister Earla Jean Nemitz.
Graveside services will be at 4:00 PM Monday August 14, 2006 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with Rev. James Wakelin officiating. The family will be at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday August 13, 2006 for visitation. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church.
E. JANE BROWN
BLOOMFIELD - E. JANE BROWN, age 61 of rural Bloomfield died August 2, 2006 at Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born
July 4, 1945 at the Bremerton, Washington Naval Base to Alvin L. and Luela Anderson Bennett. She married
W. C. “Buster” Brown May 27, 1972 in Bloomfield, Iowa. She had been a resident of Bloomfield since 1969 and was an elementary teacher in the Davis County Community School District, retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Church of the Open Bible in Bloomfield. She was also a member of the Davis County Retired School Personnel and was currently serving as treasurer.
She is survived by her husband; her mother Luela Bennett of Chandler, Arizona and 2 brothers Gary Bennett of Linwood, Kansas and Marvin Bennett of Chandler, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and father.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday August 5, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastors Charles Courtney and Jerry Lanferman officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM.
