JUNE WODTKE 77, of rural Anthon passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at her home. Memorial services were held Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

GARY G. MICHENER 66, of rural Anthon died Thursday September 22, 2005, as the result of a single vehicle accident southeast of Anthon. Services: Wednesday September 28, 2005 at the Moville, Iowa United Methodist Church. The Revs. Karen Handke and Robert Rook officiated. Burial: in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville. Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville was in charge of arrangements. Gary; the son of Elza and Lucille (Taylor) Michener was born icon on May 4, 1939, in Sioux City. He was raised in the rural Climbing Hill, Iowa area, and graduated from Climbing Hill High School with the class of 1958. He also graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. On August 17, 1962 he was united in marriage to Janet Kathryn Jensen in services at Storm Lake, Iowa. Gary and Jan lived in the Climbing Hill area for a few years until they purchased their family farm west of Anthon in 1969. It was here that they raised their family. Gary farmed all of his life and also did custom harvesting for many area farmers. He was a member of the Iowa Cattleman's Association, Woodbury County Farm Bureau and had sponsored many events at the Woodbury County Fair. Survivors include his wife, Jan, currently residing in the Kingsley Nursing Home; two daughters and their husbands, Ann and Jay Hardy of Redwood City, California and Kim and Mo Emami of Ft. Collins, Colorado; two grandchildren, Farrah and Zoya Emami; his parents, Elzie and Lucille Michener of Moville; a brother and his wife, Ron and Carolyn Michener of rural Anthon; as well as many other family and friends. The family requests that memorial contributions go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the "Make A Wish Foundation."

SUSAN E. KETELSEN 51, of Sioux City and formerly of Anthon and Lawton, Iowa died Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at her residence. Services: Saturday September 3, 2005 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon with burial in Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Susan was born icon in Sioux City on August 26, 1954 to Chris and Evelyn (Meyer) Ketelsen. She attended Anthon-Oto School and Lawton-Bronson, graduating in 1973 from L-B. She went on to attend Western Iowa Tech Community College, getting her degree / certificate in the Professional Truck Driving Program. Susan enjoyed reading, making scrapbooks, movies and coloring. For most of her life, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary McNiff Unit #389 at Anthon. Survivors include one son Justin and his wife Julie Clausen of Norfolk, Nebraska; her mother, Evelyn Ketelsen of Lawton, one brother Bernard "Bernie" and his wife Barb Ketelsen of Correctionville, Iowa along with three sisters; Lena and husband Ron Whitesell of Correctionville, Iowa, Louise Guthridge of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Luci and husband Wayne Mead of Sioux City, Iowa. Susan was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents, Lena and Bernard Meyer and Catherine and Christian Ketelsen.

RALPH WILSON 87, of Anthon passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at his residence in Anthon. Services: Monday, August 15, 2005 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon. Burial: in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. Ralph Nicholas Wilson, was born icon on July 4, 1918 in Anthon to Raymond Elliott and Anna (Lorenzen) Wilson. Ralph attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Anthon and graduated from Anthon Public High School with the class of 1936. He enjoyed playing baseball on the Anthon High School team during his high school years. One of his favorite high school memories was going to state tournament with the baseball team in 1936. Baseball remained an interest all his life. Ralph especially enjoyed watching the Cubs and was a big fan. He also enjoyed golfing, drag racing and ballroom dancing. Ralph started working at Garrison's Grocery Store when he was ten years old and worked there until 1943, when he went to Alaska to work on the Alcan Highway. On Aug. 19, 1940, Ralph was united in marriage to Grace Irene Jones in South Sioux City. To this union, six children were born. Ralph joined the U.S. Army and served with the 101st Airborne Paratroopers from April 1944 until January 1946. During the war, he took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He attained the rank of Sergeant before receiving his honorable discharge. He worked with his father before purchasing and operating Wilson Motor Company. In 1966 Ralph was appointed Anthon Postmaster and retired in 1988. A lifelong Anthon resident, Ralph took pride in the Anthon community. He was an Anthon City Councilman and was a member of the Anthon Lions Club, Anthon Fire Department as well as the American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. Survivors include his wife Grace who was Ralph's partner and best friend for 64 years; four sons, John and his wife, Gayla of Anthon, Ray and his wife, Priscilla of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Steve and his wife, Sue of Correctionville, Iowa, and Kermit and his wife, Lyn of Ames, Iowa; a daughter, Suzy and her husband, Terry Schneider of Chandler, Arizona; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jim Wilson; one grandson, Preston Van Houten; one great-granddaughter, Devin Gochenour; and his sister, Margaret Franks Brenner.

MARVIN C. KIRKHOLM 77, of Moville, Iowa; died suddenly on Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada; while on a family vacation. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville. Marvin was born icon July 8, 1928, near Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of Carl and Mary (Neal) Kirkholm. Following his graduation from Battle Creek High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving for two years. He married icon Margaret Ann Murphy, of Sioux City, on Dec. 31, 1952. He began his farming career near Moville, Iowa. He farmed near Everly and also near Anthon, Iowa. In 1982, the family relocated their farm operation to near Homer, Nebraska, where he retired in 1993. He was particularly proud of the cow herd he raised on his ranch in northern Missouri. Margie and Marvin enjoyed spending winters in Weslaco, Texas for 25 years, where Marvin was able to perfected his poker and cribbage techniques with friends. He was a devoted agriculturist, husband, father and dedicated to his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Margie; three sons, Dennis (Nancy) Kirkholm and Craig (Sheila) Kirkholm, all of Homer, Neb., and Kyan (Diane) Kirkholm of Brooklyn, Iowa; a daughter, Jodi (Rick) Steffen of Moville; two sisters, Norma Scheelhaase of Moville and Mary (Gary) Roepke of Northridge, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Paul Nielsen of Eugene, Ore.; grandchildren, Tyler, Tess, Chance, Justin and Ben Kirkholm and Kati and Keely Steffen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas; a sister, Mildren Nielsen; and a brother-in-law, Lyle Scheelhaase.

DARRICK E. LEWIS 27, of Bode, Iowa, and a former Anthon resident died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at his residence. Services:10:30 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Anthon. Burial:Fairfield Cemetery, Rock Branch, Iowa. Darrick E. Lewis, was born icon on October 28, 1977 to Rick and Barb (Hanson) Lewis, in Ida Grove, Iowa. As a child, his grandmother, Betty Hanson, helped raise him. He attended school in Correctionville, Iowa. Following his graduation in 1997, he attended college in Spencer, Iowa, until a fire destroyed his grandmother's home. He then left school to help financially. He met his wife Michelle Lawman in 1999, and the couple married icon on Oct. 20, 2001, in Moville, Iowa. He was a volunteer fireman and town policeman in Moville. In June 2003, they moved to Bode, Iowa where they resided until the time of his death. In 2003, the couple committed their life to foster children. To date, they have loved and cared for 13 children. Their foster children currently include three small boys and a teenage girl. Survivors include his wife, Michelle of Bode, Iowa; his parents, Barb and Rick Lewis of Cushing, Iowa; a stepsister, Candy Day of Columbus, Neb.; nieces, Teela, Dakota and Timber Rose Day; grandmothers, LaVonne Lewis of Sioux City and Betty Hanson of Anthon; aunts and uncles, Ronnie and Nancy Lewis, Randy Lewis, and Roxanne and Wes Baker, all of Correctionville, Iowa, and Rhonda and Mardel Buss and Robin Lewis, all of Sioux City; many cousins; his father-in-law and his wife, Lonnie and Lori Lawman of Livermore, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Janeen Trenary of Texas; and a sister-in-law, Katie Kline of Bode, Iowa.

DONALD W. KRUEGER, 82, of Kingsley, Iowa and formerly of the Anthon and Oto area passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Services: Friday June 3, 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial: in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Donald Wayne Krueger was born icon on December 28, 1922, rural Anthon, Iowa, to Augustuv P. and Clara (Davis) Krueger. He attended country school near his home and later transferred to school in Oto, Iowa. Following his education, he worked with his Dad, farming. On March 14, 1945, he married icon Helma Scheer of Anthon in services in Sioux City. The couple began farming in the Oto area and later near Correctionville, Iowa. In 1957, the family moved to a farm near Pierson, Iowa where they farmed until Don and Helma retired into Kingsley in 1983. In addition to farming, Don enjoyed many years as a school bus driver for the Kingsley-Pierson School District. During his retirement, he worked part-time as the groundskeeper for the school district and continued with his school bus driving. He also helped Helma take care of the Community Center and shared special times with their retired farm friends, Melvin and Phyllis Monke. He had a strong love for his family and was never afraid to show his emotions to those close to him. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kingsley where he served as an usher and a greeter. He was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Pierson and along with others, helped to start the Calf Club, which supported the church and their mission. He also enjoyed playing cards on Saturdays in Correctionville with his brothers-in-law. He will be remembered by his two daughters, Donna and her husband, Ronnie Christophersen of Climbing Hill, Iowa, and Brenda Sargisson and her special friend, Rod Olsen of Kingsley; a son and his wife, Randy and Nancy Krueger of Sioux City; two grandsons and their wives, Terry and Jenny Christophersen and Nathan and Kelly Sargisson; three granddaughters and their husbands, Kim and Steve Steffen, Jenny and Mark Vos and Nicole and Kirk Lindgren; 11 great-grandchildren, Matthew and Malakie Christophersen, Sidney and Jacob Steffen, Brooke, Hanna and Grace Vos, Grant and Jake Sargisson and Max and Dexter Lindgren; and a sister and her husband, Shirley and Fred Benedix of Correctionville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helma this past December 7, 2004; an infant daughter, Marcia; a great-grandson, Henry Sargisson; and a sister, Faye Krueger.

Dr. JACK L. GANZHORN, 74, of Mapleton died unexpectedly Sunday, May 29, 2005, at his residence in Mapleton, Iowa. Services: Thursday June, 2, 2005 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial: in Mount Hope Cemetery at Mapleton, Iowa with military rites conducted by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton is in charge of arrangements. Dr. Jack Lee Ganzhorn was born icon Feb. 17, 1931, in Logan, Iowa, to Dr. Harold and Surilda (Saulsbery) Ganzhorn. He was a lifelong Mapleton resident. He graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1949. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1961. He completed his internship in Ogden, Utah. Following his return to Iowa, he joined his father and practiced family medicine in Mapleton until his retirement in 1992. On June 28, 1961 he married icon Donna L. Sanford at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa. He served on the Mapleton School board for 14 years and on the Maple Heights Nursing Home board from its beginnings until resigning in 2005, as well as numerous other groups and organizations. Survivors include his wife Donna; one daughter and her husband, Suzanne Lee and Dr. Rudolf Kotula of Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren, Adam and Anna, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

ROXANN KOLLBAUM, 45, of rural Hornick, Iowa passed away at her residence, with her family at her side on Monday, May 23, 2005. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday May 26, 2005 at the Skien Lutheran Church, Albaton, Iowa (rural Sloan, Iowa). Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa. Roxann was the daughter of Jon and Beverly (Thomas) Roarson and was born icon on July 5, 1959, in Onawa, Iowa. She attended school at Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa, graduating with the class of '77. She attended Drake University and Iowa State University. On August 2, 1986, she was united in marriage to Kevin G. Kollbaum at the United Methodist Church in Anthon, Iowa. The couple made their home and raised their son on a farm near Anthon until they moved to an acreage near Holly Springs, Iowa in 2003. She was employed at R.G. Dickenson Brokerage Firm in Des Moines from 1978 to 1980 when she moved back to the Sloan area. She worked as bookkeeper at Consumer Supply Distributing in Sioux City for 18 years, until she accepted the position as school board secretary/treasurer for the Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Community School district six years ago. Declining health forced her retirement. Roxann was a member of Skien Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School and coordinated many music programs at the United Methodist Church in Anthon while the couple lived here. She enjoyed sewing, reading, quilting and attending son Kenton's sporting events. Her greatest passion was being a mother. Survivors include her husband, Kevin of Hornick; their son, Kenton J. at home; her parents, Jon and Bev Roarson of Sloan, Iowa; two sisters and their husbands, Rhonda and Mike Wilt of Sloan, Iowa, and Rachelle and Ed Scott of Salix, Iowa; five nieces and nephews, Katie (Wilt) Scott and Jon Wilt of Sloan and Kayla, Andy and Greg Scott of Salix; her father-in-law and mother-in-law; Merlin and Colleen Kollbaum of Anthon; two sisters-in-law, Renee Piper of Green River, Wyoming, and Sherrie and her husband, Quentin Bodholt of Newell, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Kenny Kollbaum and his wife, Patty and Brad Kollbaum, all of Anthon; nieces and nephews, Ryan and Brett Baldwin of Anthon, Candice (Baldwin) Jacobson of Correctionville, Iowa, Kyle, Joel and Kaci Bodholt of Newell, Iowa, Derrick and Dalton Kollbaum of Anthon and Bethany and Alexandria Kollbaum of Moville, Iowa, and many friends who will miss her very much.

MICHAEL W. NEPPER, 50 of Oto passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, May 12, 2005. Services: Sunday May 15 at the Oto United Church of Christ with his sister-in-law; Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial: Oto Cemetery, Oto, Iowa. Michael Warren Nepper was born icon on June 16, 1954 to Warren Charles and Evon Vera (Chandler) Nepper in Mapleton, Iowa. He grew up in Mapleton, graduating with the class of 1972. He farmed after graduation. On March 10, 1990 he married icon Linda Handke in services at Oto, Iowa. They made their home in Oto, Iowa. Mike continued to work in the farming industry as well as construction, custom work, logging and trucking. He was also employed by Saber Communications and Mapleton Grain. He enjoyed being with family and friends. Survivors include is wife Linda; one daughter Avery and one son, Keenan both still at home; his mother, Evon Blakely of Rodney, Iowa; his father and stepmother, Warren and Cindy Nepper of Ute, Iowa; two sisters and husbands, Linda and David Gosch of Charter Oak, Iowa and Donna and Ray Jacobs of Manhatten, New Hampshire; two stepsisters and husbands, Patti and Wade Miller of Schleswig, Iowa, and Lori and John Head of Ghant, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by an infant son; Quintin.

GERTRUDE M. YOCKEY, 89, of Anthon passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein, Iowa. Services: Monday, May 16, 2005 at the United Methodist Church, Rock Branch, rural Correctionville, Iowa. Burial: Fairfield Cemetery. Gertrude was born icon near Lawton, Iowa to James and Friedrieka (Runneau) Drossel on October 2, 1915. She graduated with the class of 1933 at Climbing Hill High School, Climbing Hill, Iowa. On December 19, 1936 she married icon Gerald Yockey in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed west of Anthon where they raised their two children; Gary and Joane. Gerald passed away on November 9, 1978. Gertrude continued to live on the farm until she moved into Anthon in 1981. She enjoyed her family and friends, farming, gardening, flowers and cooking. She was active in her church until she had to go into the nursing home in 1999. She is survived by her children; Gary and wife Judy Yockey of Holstein, Iowa, and Joane and husband Pat Cole of Huxley, Iowa; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one sister Margaret Schwartz of Anthon and two sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Drossel of Des Moines, Iowa and Dorothy Goodman of Sioux City, Iowa. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, two grandsons, and several brothers and sisters.
