Patricia Hubby
Patty Hubby, 45, died at her home Friday, January 11, 2008. Per her request, her body has been cremated and no services are planned.
Patty is survived by her husband, Robert Hubby; son, Rob (Jessica) Hubby; mother, Betty Landers; and one granddaughter, Brianna.
Patty was a very loving daughter, mother, wife and animal lover and best friend to all who knew her. She never took life for granted and always made the best of any situation. To anyone who did not get a chance to meet her, we’re sorry, you missed a wonderful person.

Arthur Catherwood
Arthur Dudley Adams Catherwood, 60, passed away at his home on February 9, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Royal View Manor, 1101 Crocker.
Jeffrey McFadden
Jeffery McFadden, 43, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Mercy Hospital from cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Jeffrey was born
July 26, 1964 in Des Moines and was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond, Patricia, and stepmother, Norma McFadden. He was known for his robust sense of humor, generosity, and dedication to hard work.
Jeffrey is survived by his 11 children; many grandchildren; two sisters; seven brothers; and numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and beloved friends.
Dr. Carroll Childs
Dr. Carroll Arthur Childs, 82, died February 10, 2008 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Ashworth Road Baptist Church, 5300 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines.
Dr. Childs was born
February 9, 1926 in Keokuk, Iowa, to Arthur and Herschel Childs. He and his family moved about the Midwest, where he developed his love for music, mastering the trumpet and French horn.
He served with distinction in the European Theater during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge.
After the war, Carroll attended Drury College in Springfield, MO, completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education in 1948. He then completed his Masters of Education in Music at Northwestern University in 1952 and in 1963, he completed his Doctorate in Music at Colorado State College.
Dr. Childs began his teaching career in 1950 at Pleasant Hill, MO and subsequently taught at Mountain Grove, MO until 1953. That same year, he began teaching in the Wichita (KS) Public Schools and in 1954 became the Director of Instrumental Music. In 1966, Dr. Childs was selected as the Supervisor of Music for the Des Moines (IA) Public Schools. He retired from that position in 1989.
Throughout his career, Dr. Childs was active in the Iowa Music Educators Association (serving as President) National Music Educators, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and his church, as Choir Director, Education Director, and Sunday School Teacher.
Dr. Childs was preceded in death by both parents and is survived by Jo, his wife of 53 years, two sons, Scott (Carole) of Goddard, KS and Quentin (Tracy) of Indianola, IA, and eight grandchildren, Crista, Lisa, Nathan, Michael, Cameron, Amanda, Riley, and Rebecca.
Dr. Childs will have a private burial at the Waukee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ashworth Road Baptist Church, 5300 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines, IA, the Dr. Carroll A. Childs Endowment Fund for music students at Drury College, 900 N. Benton, Springfield, MO 65802 or Hospice of Central Iowa-Kavanagh House, 900 56th St, Des Moines, IA 50312.
Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway is handling arrangements.
Betty Kingery
Betty J. Kingery joined her Lord and Savior on February 11, 2008 after battling a long illness at Kavanagh House on 56th in Des Moines. Betty was born
in Des Moines on June 13, 1928. Her life was dedicated to sharing her love with her family and friends and bringing grace to all who knew her. Betty graduated from East High in 1946. An accomplished pianist and organist, Betty enjoyed sharing her music throughout her life.
Betty is survived by her husband, Marion Kingery of Monroe; sons, Wayne Hodges and wife, Linda of Leonard, MI, Donald Hodges and wife, Helen of League City, TX; daughters, Betsy Hulen of Kansas City, MO and Nancy Newman and husband, Dean of West Des Moines; stepsons, David Kingery and wife, Betty and Jim Kingery and wife,Cathy; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lloyd and Violet Speck of Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines; burial following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, The American Cancer Society or Kavanagh House on 56th.
Esther Boylan
Esther Louise Boylan, 76, died Thursday, February 7, 2008. Per her wishes, her body has been cremated and no services are planned.
Esther was born
December 22, 1931 to Henry and Esther Myer in Des Moines. She was a life long Des Moines resident. Along with her husband, William, they owned and operated Boylan Lock and Locksmith. She also worked at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Broadlawns in the laundry area. She enjoyed playing majong, watching Disney movies, dancing and playing solitaire on the computer. She loved Pepsi and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups.
Esther is survived by her sons, George Sanders, Jr. and Rick Boylan; daughter, Linda Sanders; step-sons, Steve and Keith Boylan; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William H. Boylan and George Sanders.
Mary Hall Long
Mary Hall Walker, 64, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at Union Park Care Center. Per her wishes, her body has been cremated and no services are planned.
Mary was born
September 24, 1943 in Des Moines to Charles and Marion Hall. She worked as an executive secretary for the majority of her life, retiring in 2000. Mary was a talented artist who enjoyed taking walks, the outdoors, animals but especially spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her sons, Todd Walker and Paul (Natalie) Walker; granddaughter, Roxanne Reynolds and grandson, Joshua Rogers. She was preceded in death by her parents and three aunts.
She will be missed dearly.
Robert F Bailey
Bob Bailey, 78, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lula ; son Ron (Zhanetta) Bailey; daughters, Kathy (Bob) Toom and Sandy (David) Suplee ; grandchildren, Justin, Natalia, Eric, Brian, Michael and Ryan and great grandchildren, Leah, Camden and Tanner; and his sisters, Betty (Wilbert) Nelson and Evelene Corbin.
A private memorial service will be held with Hamilton’s Funeral Home handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family for a memorial bench and tree in his favorite park next to his home.
Marjorie Terrell
Marjorie M. Terrell, 93, died Monday, February 11, 2008 at Trinity Center at Luther Park. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Simpson United Methodist Church, E. 26th & Capitol with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Marjorie was born
August 29, 1914 in Agency, IA. She did clerical work for Des Moines General Hospital and Iowa Lutheran Hospital before her retirement in 1980. Marjorie was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church where she enjoyed quilting and served in numerous capacities.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Cowlen, Maureen (Fran) Nalevanko, Ellen (Tom Conner) Terrell and Linda (Larry) Klostermann; sister, Betty Kroeger; brother, Arnold Burton; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Terrell; her parents, Elton and Reva Cassidy; her son, Arnold Terrell; twin sister, Margaret Elwell; and siblings, Geneva Plaisted, Edward J. Burton, Lucille Poole, Veda Gerst and Zona Levy.

Mary E. Flaherty
Mary Elizabeth Flaherty, 87, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Trinity Center at Luther Park. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mary was born
August 13, 1920 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Dale and Elizabeth Knowlton. She lived in Des Moines since 1935 and worked as a cashier for Walgreens Pharmacy. Mary loved to garden and go to Prairie Meadows.
Mary is survived by her children, William (Janice) Flaherty, James (Dianne) Flaherty, Cathy Warner, Mary Ann Flaherty, Michael Flaherty and Patrick (Lil) Flaherty; sister, Jeanne Newman; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Florence Priebe
Florence Elizabeth Priebe, 84, died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center on Saturday, February 9, 2008.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Thursday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Burial will follow at Berwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Florence was born
in Menlo, Iowa but lived in the Des Moines area all of her life. She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting many things. Her largest collection was her salt and pepper shakers, a collection of chickens and a collection of Santa Clauses. She enjoyed taking trips with the Senior Groups. She was an active member of Simpson United Methodist Church, where she quilted one day a week. She also loved and enjoyed all of her nephews and nieces taking part in their activities, including weddings and new babies.
She is survived by two sisters, Mildred “Millie” Heston and Mary Whitaker both of Des Moines. One niece and four nephews, seven great nieces and nephews, six great great nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Ralph Priebe.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Simpson United Methodist Church.
Glen Howard
Glen “Bud” Howard, 88, died at his home Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Berwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Glen was born
August 20, 1919 in Runnells, IA to Lee and Ida Howard. Glen installed hardwood flooring for many years.
Glen was taken from the family he loved so much to be with God. He was a great husband and father. He enjoyed playing BINGO with wife Doris, deer hunting with sons and friends, fishing and visiting his daughter, Linda in Texas. Glen was a member of Our Own Van Club with his brother-in-law, Mel Slaybough
Glen was preceded in death by his parents and many brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife loving wife of 58 years, Doris of Des Moines; his children, Tim (Mary) Howard of Murry, IA and Linda (Joe) Howard Ward of Texas; stepsons, Forest (Carolyn) of St. Mary, IA and Ron (Jackie) of Woodburn, IA; granddaughter, Stephanie (Adam Cowling) Howard; great-granddaughter, Samantha Cowling, all of Osceola, IA; brother, Harold (Ruth) Howard of Perry, IA; several nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and many friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to their dear friend and neighbor, Meg Huxford.
Glen will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
