Geraldine E. Main, 71, of 405 W. Willman, Hiawatha, died Sunday, September 22, 2002, in ST. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services at 1 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Clive Cook will officiate. Private inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include her husband Harold, two sons Gordon of Cedar Rapids, Tom and wife Valerie of Saginaw, Michigan, a daughter Laurie Whightsil and husband Lynn of Lampasas, Texas, two brothers George Liddle and wife Ardis of Sun City, California, and Arthur Liddle and wife Sharon of Costa Mesa, California, a sister Jennifer 'June' Liddle of Cedar Rapids, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew Jeffrey Liddle.
Geraldine was born April 26, 1931 in Estherville, Iowa, to Arthur Lee and Elmira McDonald Liddle. She married Harold L. Main on September 8, 1963 in Hiawatha. She worked as a accountant for Cherry Burrell prior to her marriage. She was an Avid cubs fan and dedicated her life to her family.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Milestone Adult Day Care Center.

Marion A. Dauenbaugh

Marion A. Dauenbaugh, 74, of 1950 McGowan Blvd, Marion, died Thursday, September 26, 2002, in his home following a sudden illness. Services with military rites at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Burial with masonic rites at 1:30 PM in the Campton cemetery , Lamont, Iowa. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie, a son Michael of Marion, and a sister Beverly Farnum of Fairbank, Iowa
Also survived by three grand children, Gary and Scott Kreutner and Dondee Corrigan, and his pet dog Dancer. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Sheryll Dauenbaugh.
Marion was born October 24, 1927 in Quasqueton, Iowa to Alvin and Wilma Boies Dauenbaugh. He married Marjorie Rule on August 12, 1946 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1949. He was a teacher and coach at Quasqueton and Center Point and at Linn Mar High School for 22 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of Solomon Masonic Lodge # 594 in Lamont, and a member of the El Kahir Shrine. He served with the US Army during WW II, and was a member of Marion American legion Post No 298. He enjoyed golfing and especially fishing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital or to Camp Courageous of Iowa.

R. Ray Weeks

R. Ray Weeks, 82, of 100 Thompson Drive S.E., died Monday at Mercy Hallmar following a lingering illness. There will be no memorial services but the family will greet friends at the Craig and Sue Byers residence, 1022 44th St. S.E. on Saturday, October 12, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Military services will take place at Arlington National cemetery at a future date, where his parents are also buried. Arrangements are with the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Surviving besides his wife Barbara, are two sons, Paul Weeks II and wife Pam of Arlington, Virginia and Peter Weeks and wife Michele Donato of Lavallette, New Jersey, a daughter, Nancy Payne and husband Bruce of Kankakee, Illinois, a sister, Paula Weeks Taylor and husband James from Pebble Beach, California and grandchildren, Catherine Wright and husband Geoff of Anchorage, Alaska, Thomas Cotrell Sammis IV of Chicago, Tyler Lee Sammis of Boston, Massachusetts, Jennifer Rose Donato-Weeks of Lavallette, New Jersey, Scott Payne of Florida, Brian Payne and Derek Payne of California, great grandchildren, Duncan Anthony Wright and Adeline Ruth Wright.
He was preceded in death by a sister Virginia Sturgis Weeks Weeks.
Mr. Weeks was born on January 13, 1920 in Stockton, California to Col. Paul and Inez (Ray) Weeks and was married to Barbara Weers on September 19, 1942 in Peoria, Illinois. A graduate of Peoria Central High School he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduated with a BSEE degree from the University of Wisconsin. He served in the United States Navy during World War 2.
He was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Honorary Engineering Fraternity, Eta Kappa Nu Honorary Engineering Fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Navy Military Affiliate Radio System for over 30 years, Tuesday Club, Cedar Rapids Country Club and was Treasurer of the Seminole Valley Farm, Inc. for many years.
He formerly was employed by the Collins Radio Company in their Research Division, beginning in 1948. He worked on the construction of Brookhaven National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory 60 inch Cyclotrons. He joined the staff at Argonne for three years and then returned to Collins Radio Company to work on the Dewline UHF radio system and Navy shipboard switched teletype system at Alpha Corp. in Dallas, Texas. For the 20 years before retirement at Grumman Aerospace, Bethpage, New York, work included Chief Test Conductor on Lunar Module Two and Four and two years in Isfahan, Iran on the F14 program.
After living on Long Island, New York for 25 years, he and his wife retired to join old friends in Cedar Rapids in 1987. An active amateur radio enthusiast with an X Class license since 1933 - present call sign W2 PL. He had been a volunteer tutor for Kirkwood Community College, English as a second language. Other interest included woodworking, gardening and sailing. In the Navy he advanced from Radioman Third Class to Chief Radioman (on active duty during WWII) and then to Lt. j.g. after the war before resigning his commission.
In lieu of flowers, the family request a memorial may be made to the Dialysis unit of Mercy Medical Center, Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation, or a Charity of your choice.

Edward J. Whisler, 83, 3237 Dalewood Ave SE died Monday October 7, 2002 at Mercy Hallmar of cancer. Services: 1:00 P.M. Friday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery with military rites by Marion American Legion Post #298. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Thursday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home where the Elks Lodge will have services at 6:00 PM and Crescent Masonic Lodge #25 will have services at 6:30 PM. The Rev. William Harnish and The Rev. Ted Bohr will officiate.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret 'Peggy' Bohr and husband Jim of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters, Kristin Collins of Cedar Rapids, Tasha Everman and husband Brian of Lincoln, NE, and Amy Bohr and fiancé Brooks West of Minneapolis, MN; two great grandchildren, Andy and Macie Collins of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Mary Gradwell and husband Max of Cedar Rapids; several nieces and nephews; an uncle, J.J. Taylor of California; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 47 years, Grace Curran.
Ed was born December 26, 1918 in Udell, Iowa the son of Edward L. and Belle A. Taylor Whisler. Ed lived most of his life in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Franklin High School. He married Ruth Philipp in 1940. They divorced. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1943, he served his country in WW II until 1945 in the European Theatre. He married Grace Curran in 1949. He was employed by Barnard and Leas Manufacturing Co, retiring as Vice President of Sales in 1985. Ed was actively involved in the American Legion (60 Years), the Elks Lodge (61 years) and the V.F.W. (60 Years). He was a member of Crescent Masonic Lodge #25, the Cedar Rapids Consistory, the El Kahir Shrine, and the Quiet Birdmen. He was a former Wing Commander for the Iowa Civil Air Patrol. He was also a colonel in the Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. He was a sustaining member of the Elk's National Foundation.
Ed enjoyed flying, fishing, cards, football, and gardening. Grace and Ed owned a cabin in the Ivanhoe area for many years where they enjoyed entertaining friends and family. He gave freely of his time and energy to many worthy causes, volunteering for the Special Olympics, several Veteran's organizations, and serving on numerous boards and commissions.
He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family including devoted friends Harold Hall and Jim Lorimer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ed's name to the Elk's National Foundation, the Shriners' Hospital for Children, or a memorial of donor's choice.

Jean Ellen Messenger, 72, a resident of Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, October 10, 2002, in Hallmark following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Monday in Noelridge Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Marsceau will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the church after 9 AM on Monday. Survivors include three daughters, Rosalee Lester and husband Donald of Lansing, Illinois, Peggy Jean Meeuwsen and husband Chuck of Cornelius, Oregon, and Ronda Duckett and husband Brian of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, a brother William Compton of Omaha, Nebraska, a sister Carol White of Elgin, Illinois, and 7 grandchildren, Andrew and EmmaLee Lester, Bretton, Bryant, and Brandon Gilgan-Meeuwsen, and Bryce and Brittany Duckett. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Kathryn Petersen.
Jean Ellen was born June 30, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska to Luther and Alice Davis Compton. She married Jack W. Messenger on June 5, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska. They divorced. She was a member of Noelridge Baptist Church, a volunteer for Aid To Women, and a volunteer and teacher for A.W.A.N.A. (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed). She liked to travel, do cross word puzzles, and listen to music. She collected Turtles and Angels, and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and listening to Christian Radio programs.
Jean Ellen loved her 'three beautiful daughters', family and friends, unconditionally, and touched all our lives with love and laughter.
Instead of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Alice Maye Pankey

Alice Maye Pankey, 81, formerly of 2905 Meadowbrook Dr. SE, died Wednesday, Feb 26, 2003, at Manor Care Health Services following a long illness. Services: 11:00 AM Friday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, by Rev. Linda Bibb of Salem United Methodist Church. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call from 4-7 PM Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after 10:00 am Friday at the Chapel of Memories.
Survivors include a son, Richard L. Pankey and wife Heidi, two daughters Diann Weininger and husband William, all of Cedar Rapids, and Frances Ealy of LaPorte City; a brother Richard Behlmer and wife Fern, a sister Martha Jensky, all of Illinois; seven grandchildren: Chris Weininger and wife Amy, Melissa Zachman and husband Jeff, Jason Weininger, Phillip Pankey and fiancé Lori Harju, Corey Ealy and wife Amy, Casey Ealy, Kendalyn Ealy and fiancé Nicholas Hindahl; great-granddaughters Breanna Zachman, Kaelyn Ealy, Paige Weininger and Raegan Zachman: great-grand sons Gavin Zachman, Cade Ealy and Riley Pankey.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Lee who died February 17, 1998.
Alice was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Chicago, Ill. to Harvey and Virginia Talbot Behlmer. After graduating from Proviso High School she attended the American Academy of Fine Arts to study dress design. She married Lee Pankey on September 1, 1945, in Maywood, Ill. During her career Alice worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, Younkers, and as a floral designer for Lewellen’s Florist and Four Seasons. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Anna Abigail Circle.
Alice dearly loved her family, always feeling fortunate that they lived close by and visited often. Alice was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a wonderful cook. Her care and compassion for her family and sense of humor will be missed by all.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association Iowa Affiliate or the charity of your choice.

Paul R. Jones, 91, of 1650 Koehler Dr. NW, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, in the Woodlands at Methwick Retirement Community, following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Tuesday in St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Survivors include his wife of 59 years Mildred, a daughter Elaine Fonken and husband John of Adel, Iowa, a son Robert and wife Nancy of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and six grandchildren, Angela Fonken, Jennifer Hall and husband Jason, grandson Paul L. Jones and grandson Michael Jones and wife Kelly. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Lloyd and Gail.
Paul was born August 24, 1911 in New Cambria, Missouri to Robert and Elizabeth Parry Jones. He married Mildred Ryan on October 2, 1943 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He received a B.S. Degree from North Missouri State University and a Masters Degree in Mathematics at the University of Iowa. He was a math instructor at Roosevelt and Jefferson High Schools for 35 years retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge, Retired Teachers Association, S.C.O.R.E, and had served on the board of Witwer Senior Center. He did volunteer income taxes for many elderly people. He served in the US Navy during WW II.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or to Methwick Retirement Community.
