Charles Stevens
Charles W. Stevens, 81, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Henry County Health Center.
Born Jan. 29, 1922, in rural Mount Union, he was the son of Horace Wilson and Daisy Belle Wickham Stevens. On June 20, 1943, he married Joan Esteleen Myers in Mount Union.
Mr. Stevens was a lifelong farmer in the Mount Union area until 1984. He also was a carpenter, working with Mayne Courter of Winfield, and he worked at the West Burlington Railroad Shops.
He was a 1940 graduate of Winfield High School. The Stevens' moved to Arkansas in 1987 and resided there until moving back to Mount Pleasant in 1989. They enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona for the last 25 years. He was a former member of Canaan Methodist Church and Mount Union United Methodist Church and a present member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of the Mount Union Booster Club, and a 50–year member of New London Masonic Lodge #28 and New London Chapter #440 Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the KAABA Shrine and the Consistory, both of Davenport. He was an active volunteer of Midwest Old Threshers for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Nancy Jo Stevens of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Robert Stevens of Winfield; one sister, Frances Seyb of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother–in–law.
Visitation will be from noon to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Stevens will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Kimberly Bowles officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church's Saturday evening church sound system and the Iowa Wesleyan College athletic training room.
Sterling "Scottie" Scott
The Memorial Service for Mr. Sterling "Scottie" Robert Scott, 63, will be 1:00 PM Monday, October 18, in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Gary L. Chapman officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8:00 AM Monday at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:00 PM. In Lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
Louis Hawes
Louis Clyde Hawes, 70, of Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis, formerly of Burlington, died at 7:14 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Oct. 26, 1934, in Indianola, he was the son of Loren Eldred and Dorothy Lorraine Sandy Hawes. On Oct. 21, 1962, he married Carolyn Neiswanger in Keokuk.
Mr. Hawes worked as a pipefitter for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Shops in West Burlington for 18 years, retiring in 2000.
He was a 1953 graduate of Keokuk High School and received his bachelor's degree from Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College in Kirksville, Mo. He was a Korean War Army veteran. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Keokuk Masonic Lodge No. 29 AF&AM in Keokuk. He was an outstanding tennis player, avid Hawkeyes fan and Civil War buff.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Andrew Hawes of Burlington; two daughters, Jennifer Hawes and Sarah Hawes, both of Burlington; two grandsons; and one sister, Lorna Sparrow of Hamilton, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Hawes will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by Veterans Honor Guard of VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League and AMVETS Post 29 will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Don Jones
Funeral services for Mr. Don Jones, 53, of New London, will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 28, 2005 at the New London Christian Church. Pastors Rod Cooper and Sam Reighard will officiate. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery
at a later date. Visitation will begin after 2:00 PM Sunday, November 27 at the New London Christian Church, with the family receiving friends from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Memorials have been established to Great River Home Health Care and Hospice and the New London Christian Church.

Donald Cole
Donald Cole, 83, of Algona, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at the Algona Manor.
Born July 29, 1921, in Varina, he was the son of Ralph Richardson and Abbie Cole. He was raised by his grandparents. He married Betty Dall on Dec. 13, 1941, in Kahoka Mo.
Mr. Cole attended country school and then completed two years at Varina High School. He worked for area farmers and also in an Albert City factory. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942, and was honorably discharged in 1947. He and his wife then made their home in Laurens until 1951, when they moved to Whittemore and he drove a truck for Tri–County Drying Plant. In 1969, they moved to Colo, where he was a custodian at Colo High School. In 1972, they moved to Manly, where he was a custodian at North Central High School. He retired in 1986, and they moved to Algona in 1994.
He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, the outdoors, and working on and polishing his cars.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Linda of Algona; three brothers, Robert Coon of Morning Sun, Clifford Coon of Sundance, Wyo., and Marvin Coon of Burlington; two sisters, Dorothy Swafford of Morning Sun and Pauline Stern of Marion; two grandchildren; and three great–grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter.
The funeral for Mr. Cole was Nov. 23 at Wilson Funeral Home in Algona, with the Rev. Cliff Isaacson officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery
in Algona, with military rites conducted by the Algona American Legion and VFW posts.
Eugene Boeding
Eugene (Gene) Boeding, 76, of West Point, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 14, 1926, in rural West Point, he was the son of Herman and Mayme Holtkamp Boeding. On Sept. 30, 1951, he married Doris Abolt in St. Paul.
Mr. Boeding was a farmer. He also worked at Bix Stripper and later drove a school bus.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point and West Point Senior Citizens. He was a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Stephen J. Boeding and Jerry Boeding, both of West Point, Bernard Wayne Boeding of Keokuk and Kenneth Boeding of Danville; one daughter, Sandra Klesener of West Point; nine grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette Costello of Galesburg, Ill.; and 12 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today at Link Funeral Home in West Point, with a rosary recited at 3 p.m. There will be a 7 p.m. Christian vigil service.
The funeral for Mr. Boeding will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery
in West Point.
Memorials have been established for St. Mary's Rectory and the West Point Rescue Squad.
Harry Stigge
Harry William Stigge, 95, of Danville Care Center, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at the care center. Arrangements are pending at Elliott Chapel in New London.
Eulalia Zumdome
Eulalia Eva Zumdome, 90, of Fort Madison, died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 20, 1914, in Harper, she was the daughter of Bernard and Caroline Conrad Pauly. In 1935 she married Joseph H. Zumdome in Harper. He died on Dec. 26, 1967. On July 1, 1972, she married Albert Zumdome in Harper. He died on Feb. 12, 1987.
Mrs. Zumdome was a homemaker.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Alter and Rosary Society. She was a former member of RSVP, Pen City Singer, and Sweet Adelines. She was an avid euchre and bingo player.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlene Head of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two sons, Kenneth Zumdome of Indianapolis and Daniel Zumdome of Bettendorf; eight grandchildren; 11 great–grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Pascha of Iowa City and Marian Miller of Fort Madison; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, three sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Zumdome will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Donna Peebler
Donna Rose Peebler, 74, of West Burlington, died at 10:43 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Sept. 18, 1930, in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Lewis and Bessie Nott Lunbeck. On June 6, 1948, she married Edward A. Peebler in Fairfield. He died April 6, 2002.
Mrs. Peebler was a registered nurse for Dr. Stoikovic in Burlington for seven years. She worked as Health Occupations Education Coordinator for Southeastern Community College, as well as on the legislative committee for continuing education of healthcare providers. She was a nurse until she retired in 1992.
She was a 1948 graduate of Fairfield High School. She earned a nursing degree from Burlington Junior College in 1967 and a bachelor's degree in health education at University of Iowa in 1984. She wrote the fourth paramedic program accepted by the Iowa Board of Medical Examiners. She was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Fairfield, Women of the Moose and Iowa State Federation of Women's Club, where she served as chairman of the first district legislative committee. She also was chairman of the Des Moines County Board of Health. She was Past Matron of E.C. Blackmar Chapter O.E.S. She was on the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter board. She collected wall pockets and black glass. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing cards and bingo.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Peebler of West Burlington and Bill Peebler of Danville; two daughters, Katherine Richenberger of Plano, Texas, and Ruth Asher of West Burlington; 11 grandchildren and 12 great–grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one grandson and one brother.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and an Eastern Star service at 6 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Peebler will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Alman Myers
Alman Myers, 82, of Carthage, Ill., died of natural causes Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at his home. Arrangements are pending at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
Clarice Scott
Clarice May Scott, 102, of Fort Madison, died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Fort Madison Health Center.
Born Jan. 4, 1902, in Mills County, she was the daughter of George and Emma Titterington Galbraith. She married Elmer Scott. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Scott lived on her family farm near Gladstone, Ill., where her primary job on the farm was raising chickens. She also was a homemaker.
She moved to Denmark in 1956 to live with her daughter. She attended Denmark Congregational Church and was a member of Denmark Senior Citizens. She loved going to horse shows to watch show horses. She also enjoyed watching WWF wrestling, the Dukes of Hazzard and listening to John Denver. She was a resident of Fort Madison Health Center for six years.
Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Seitz of Denmark; six grandchildren; eight great–grandchildren; four great–great–grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.
There will be a private family graveside service for Mrs. Scott in Denmark Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Lee County Hospice.
