Marian Loete
Services for Marian C. Loete, 82, East Moline, are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with a rosary recited at 6:15 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church, where she was a member.

Ms. Loete died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Marian was born Jan. 10, 1920, in East Moline, daughter of Peter and Emma Roman Loete. She worked for Baecke Dry Goods and Carson Pirie Scott and retired from Millard & Co., where she was employed in maintenance at Deere & Co. Marian enjoyed sewing and loved cats.

Survivors include a sister, Lorraine Mose, East Moline; and brothers, Charles Loete, Moline, and Peter Loete, East Moline. She was a loving aunt to her many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lorretta DeCapp, and brothers, Alfred Claeys and Lenard, Constant and Andrew Loete.

Marie Nafe
Marie B. Nafe, 107, of 1403 9th Ave., Silvis, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Aspenwood Care Center, Silvis.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, with visitation 1 p.m. to service time. The Rev. Tom Peterson will officate. Burial is in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, where she was a member.

Marie B. was born April 5, 1895, in Rock Island, to John and Louise Kuehl Bertelsen. She married Clarence Lucas Dean in June 1916 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death in 1931. She married Schulze 'Bill' Nafe Oct. 23, 1933, in Rock Island. He died June 18, 1980.

Marie had a fun-loving personality and will be fondly remembered by those who knew her.

Survivors include nieces, Betty Hendricks and Janet Meyer, both of Moline, and Debbie Reep, Bettendorf; foster son, James Bradshaw, Pinckney, Mich.; and other nieces and nephews throughout the United States. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and son, Clarence Dean Jr.

Robert Gunter
Robert H. Gunter, 66, of Milan, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan.

Jessie Stevenson
Jessie Stevenson, 93, of 1403 9th Ave., Silvis, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Aspenwood Care Center, Silvis.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, with the Rev. Beckie Sherwood officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, Silvis. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, where she was a member.

Jessie M. Brent was born Feb. 10, 1909, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Harry and Francis Peterson Brent. She married Lamoine C. Stevenson Feb. 17, 1927, in Monmouth. He preceded her in death in 1983.

She retired as a librarian for East Moline Public Library.

She was a member of the women's group at the church and King's Daughters and had been a member of PTA.

Survivors (and spouses) include sons, Le Roy (Arline) Stevenson, Mesa, Ariz., Robert (Marty) Stevenson, Newark, Del., John (Lynnette) Stevenson, Branson, Mo., and James Stevenson and Charles (Judy) Stevenson, both of Silvis; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Virgina Wild, Tampa, Fla. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Roy Pankey
Roy Pankey, 72, of Carbon Cliff, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline.

Dale Sholl
Dale E. Sholl, 86, of New Windsor, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Windsor Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Joyce Basler officiating. Burial is in New Windsor cemetery . Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. Memorials may be made to the church.

Dale E. Sholl was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Avon, Ill., son of Jess L. and Verna M. Morris Sholl. He married Marion R. Brown Sept. 8, 1935, in Alexis. She died Sept. 15, 2002.

He was a graduate of Galesburg High School. He was a lathe operator at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, retiring in 1978 after 43 years of service.

He was a member of New Windsor Presbyterian Church and United Auto Workers 865, East Moline, and former member of the New Windsor Village Board and George Norris American Legion 484, New Windsor.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors (and spouses) include daughters, Ann (Marvin) Enstrom, Alpha, and Joyce Sholl, Moline; son, Robert (Vicki) Sholl, Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Allen and Adah Stick, both of Galesburg; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marion; sons, Fred, Ralph and Paul, and a brother, Arnold.

Carole Skeel
Carole L. Skeel, 65, of Colona, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Services will be 2 p.m., Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., 6601 38th Ave., Moline, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Dayton Corners cemetery , Colona. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice, VNHA of Rock Island.

Carole L. McKeever was born March 10, 1937, in rural Stark County, daughter of Lesley and Gladys Hanchett McKeever. She married Jerold Skeel Dec. 17, 1961, at Kewanee Baptist Church.

Carole was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed camping and traveling and being with her grandkids.

Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, Jerold Skeel, Colona; daughter, Gwedolyn (David) Schnurr, Alabama; son, Douglas (Pamela) Skeel, Elmhurst, Ill.; grandchildren, Alyssa Schnurr, Brianna Schnurr, Caleb Schnurr, Bret Skeel and Jaden Skeel; sisters, Lauretta (Murt) Holton, Florida, and Collene (Earl) Lomelino, Crystal Lake, Ill.; and brothers, William (Sherrill) McKeever, Peoria, Ill., and Bruce (Sandy) McKeever, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary Kepka

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Kepka, 105, of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport, where she was a member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 9 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the church.

Mrs. Kepka died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Mary Vidmar was born Feb. 2, 1897, in Zagreb, Austria-Hungary, a daughter of Milo 'Michael' and Rose Vucovic Vidmar. She came to America at the age of 11 and lived in Chicago. She married Albert George Kepka Oct. 23, 1921, in Chicago. He preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1976.

Mary was an advocate of laughter, healthy food and exercise. She loved her family and church. She also enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers.

Survivors include daughters, Edna Quinn, Davenport, and Helen Doehler, Moline; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Lorentzen, and sons-in-law, Thomas Lorentzen, Jack Edward Doehler and Henry L. Quinn. May they rest in peace.

Velma Jane
Pfitzenmaier

Velma Jane Pfitzenmaier, 82, of Davenport, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport.

Private services are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Juanita Ramirez
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Juanita C. Ramirez, 72, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Holy Family cemetery , Davenport.

Visitation will be 4 to 10 p.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, where a prayer service will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Mrs. Ramirez died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the Davenport Lutheran Home.

Juanita Connie Pacheco was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Galesburg, a daughter of Jose and Teodora Gomez Pacheco. She married Frank Ramirez May 15, 1948, in Davenport.

Juanita retired from the former J.I. Case Co., Bettendorf. She also worked in earlier years at the Rock Island Arsenal.

She was a member of the Eagles Club and LULAC Club.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Ramirez Sr., Davenport, and children and their spouses and their children and their grandchildren: Henry Ramirez and Diane Spoon, Seneca, S.C., children, Michelle, Marcia, Kathy and Nicole, grandchildren, Maria Ashley, Gabrielle Edwina and Matthew Richard; Frank Ramirez Jr. and Kristi, Davenport, children, Michael, Angela and Kevin, grandchildren, Devon and Justin; Alex Ramirez and Gloria, Davenport, children, Shanna, Mendy and Ashley, grandchildren, Bradley Alexander Marshall and Cassidy Rose Juanita; Stephen J. Ramirez, Davenport, children, Stephen Cory, Kendra and Austin; and Tim Ramirez and Valerie, Alpha, children, Taylor, Timothy and Madison. She has 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren included in their individual families.

Also surviving are sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Gonzales, Davenport, and Adelphina Molinero, Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Wilma Pacheco, Galesburg; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jacinto and Judy Pacheco, Louis and Carolina Pacheco, Jesse and Diane Pacheco and Joe Pacheco, all of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Adelphino Pacheco and Manuel Pacheco; and grandchildren, Mark and Mario Ramirez. May they rest in peace.

Mary Kepka, 105, a resident of Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the center.

Visitation will be 9 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport.

Arthur Lawrence
Arthur D. Lawrence, 83, of Moline, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.

Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline.

Rachel Marhem
Services for Rachel Marhem, 92, of Moline, are 9:30 a.m. Monday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, where she was a member. Entombment is in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline.

Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a rosary recited at 3 p.m. by Sacred Heart Altar and Rosary Society. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church.

Mrs. Marhem died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

She was born Aug. 1, 1910, in Moline, daughter of August and Marie DeGesquiere DeWindt. She married Raymond V. Marhem Aug. 24, 1940, in Moline.

She was employed at the former Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as a telephone operator, retiring in 1941. She was a member of Sacred Heart Altar and Rosary Society and Sacred Heart Retirees.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond, Moline.

Dalton Block
Services for Dalton Irene Block, 86, of East Moline, are 10 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in St. John's cemetery , Rapids City.

Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Church, where she was a member, or to Alleman High School, Rock Island.

Dalton died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Dalton Larkin was born Jan. 19, 1916, in Rock Island, daughter of Harry J. and Bridget Dalton Bugee Larkin. She was a graduate of the Villa De Chantal, Rock Island. She married Conrad S. Block June 29, 1940, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. He died May 9, 1990.

Mrs. Block had worked as a secretary for her father and uncles at Rock Island Sand and Gravel until 1941. Dalton had served as a Girl Scout Leader in Moline.

Survivors include children and spouses, Conrad and Cheryl Block, Enon, Ohio, David and Diane Block, Rock Island, Phebe and Jim Aubry, East Moline, Phillip and Cindy Block, Woodridge, Ill., and Bridget and Gary Wilson, Moline; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Scapini, Pebble Beach, Calif., and Hattie Dussliere, East Moline; and brothers, Harry Larkin Jr., Madison, Wis., Louis Larkin, Davenport, and Dick Larkin, West Des Moines. Dalton was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Michael, who died Sept. 24, 1984; sisters, Bobbe Demorest, Betty Jane Fox, Rita Freeman and Mary Louise Crist; and a brother, Jack Larkin.

William Gibson
William 'Bill' Irwin Gibson, 94, died Sept. 20, 2002, at Knapp Medical Center, Weslaco, Texas.

A memorial service was held Sept. 26 in Donna, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 228 S. Main St., Donna. Virgil Wilson Mortuary, Mission, Texas, handled arrangements.

He was born Aug. 11, 1908, in Seaton, Ill., to William Alexander and Mary Anna Jackson Gibson.

He was a retired farmer and had worked for Deere & Co. He had been a member of Odd Fellows since 1927.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; sons, Donald Gibson, Des Moines, Iowa, and James Gibson, Salisbury, Md.; and daughter, Lucinda Haschke, California. He was preceded in death by his son, Melvin Gibson, and his parents.
