True Brainard
True L. Brainard, 95, formerly of Davenport, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Liberty Commons of Alamance, Burlington, N.C.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Weerts, Davenport. Visitation is 9 a.m. to services.

True was born Dec. 17, 1908, in Brookport, Ill. She married Walter Bennett Jan. 29, 1932. He died July 5, 1939. She married Cedric Brainard March 22, 1942. He died March 1, 1977.

Surviving are her daughters, Lucinda Jones, Burlington, and Roberta Petersen, Brea, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mae Christian
Services for Mae Christian, 85, Carrollton, Texas, formerly Bettendorf, are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cunnick-Collins, Davenport. Burial with military honors is in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery . Visitation is 9:30 a.m. to services.

She died Monday, July 26, 2004 in Carrollton.

She was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Chicago, to Aloyzy and Tekla Sroka. She married Camiel Christian Oct. 16, 1946, in Victor, Iowa. He died September 1993.

Surviving are daughters, Cindy Carman, Carrollton, Diane Holdiman, St. Louis, Mo.; and grandchildren: Chelsey Carman, Chris Holdiman and Cory Holdiman.

Louis Horvath
Louis 'Louie' Horvath, 70, a resident of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Manor Care Health Center, Davenport, following an extended illness.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery , Davenport. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home at 5 p.m. Memorials can be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Louis was born July 2, 1934, in Hungary, a son of Joseph and Catherine Horvath. He was united in marriage to Odeena Johnson on May 27, 1961, in Geneseo.

He was very proud of his heritage. He and his wife traveled back to his homeland on several occasions. He left Hungary in the 1950s and became a naturalized citizen of the United States.

Louie worked for many years and retired from International Harvester, East Moline, where he had been a machinist.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Odeena, Bettendorf; a brother, Joseph Horvath, Hungary; a brother-in-law, Bernhard (Violet) Johnson, Erie; and nieces, Becky Jo and David Duax, Moline, Becky Lynn and David Tuttle, Iowa City, Iowa, and Liz Johnson, Daytona Beach, Fla.; nephews, David (Laurie) Johnson, East Moline, and Jeff Johnson, Erie.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Manor Care for the wonderful care and special attention shown to Louie.

Ivadelle Coyne
Ivadelle G. Coyne, 97, formerly of Rock Island, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island. There is no visitation.

Ivadelle was born Oct. 22, 1906, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, daughter of George and Ona Smith Gaver. She was a 1929 graduate of the Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

In 1930, Ivadelle was united in marriage to Ernest C. Coyne. He preceded her in death in June 1958.

Ivadelle volunteered as a nurse in local hospitals during World War II. She enjoyed helping others.

Ivadelle is survived by her son, Robert L. Coyne, Davenport; a granddaughter, Julie McFarland, Rock Island; great-grandchildren, Alex and Camille McFarland; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ivadelle was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Gaver and Hazell Bovee.

Arthur Foster
Arthur B. Foster, 56, of Rock Island, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall, Rock Island. Alan Gustafson will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.

Arthur was born Jan. 1, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa, son of Clarence and Florence Rethmeier Foster. He married Georgia Van Zandbergen Jan. 18, 1969, in Rock Island.

Arthur was a truck driver for Black Hawk Freight. Prior to that, he was the yard master with The Rock Island Lines for 12 years.

Arthur belonged to the Rock Island Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, where he was an elder for 30 years. Arthur enjoyed model railroading, helping others and performing his Christian ministry.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Georgia; sons, Mathew Foster and Andrew (Ellahe) Foster, Albuquerque, N.M.; granddaughter, Savannah Foster; mother, Florence Foster, Corydon, Iowa; sisters, Barbara (Richard) Ruark, Allerton, Iowa, Marguerite (Robert) Moore, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Joyce (Fred) Snedeker, Encinitas, Calif.; brothers, James C. (Darcy) Foster, Rock Island, and Terry (Cindy) Foster, Corydon; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his father, Arthur was preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Foster.

Joseph Behrens
Joseph H. Behrens, 70, of Moline, died July 26, 2004, at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, Ill., after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Joseph was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Moline, to Joseph T. and Margaret Miller Behrens. He married Gretchen Burgis on Dec. 7, 1957, in Kitzingen, Germany. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1991.

Joseph was a tractor repairman working for Farmall, Rock Island. He later worked at Marley Pump Co., retiring in 1999.

Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the East End Bolders Club, Moline Vikings, Svithiod Club and Friends Circle. He enjoyed playing cribbage and shuffle board. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, watching football and NASCAR.

Survivors include his son, Karl Behrens, Moline; special friend, Virgina 'Ginny' Porter, Moline; and brothers, Marvin Behrens, East Moline, Fred Gruss, Peoria. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Miller.

Jesus Gutierrez
Jesus J. Gutierrez, 86, of Moline, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at home.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is handling arrangements.

He was born March 8, 1918, in Jalisco, Mexico. He married Maria Rosario in 1952.

He worked most of his life as a farmhand. He enjoyed going for walks and spending time with children, especially his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Maria; children, Guadalupe, Irma Cruz and Roberto; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four brothers and sisters in Mexico.

Albert Johnson
Albert W. Johnson, 73, of Moline, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Izaak Walton League.

Al was born Dec. 2, 1930, in Rockford, Ill., son of Ernest and Leona Wilson Johnson. He married Jacolyn Ippen Aug. 26, 1950, in Rockford. He married Marsha Wycoff Jan. 9, 1972, in Rockford.

Albert was in the U.S. Air Force stationed on the Marshall Islands during the Korean War.

Al was a self-employed commercial artist. He was with D.R. Light Co. and co-owner and later sole owner of B.J. Studio in Moline.

He was a life member of Izaak Walton League of America, a member of the 16th Iowa Regiment Reactivated Civil War and belonged to the Air Weather Squadron.

Albert loved the outdoors: camping, hiking, canoeing and bird watching. He sang in the church choir and gospel quartet at First Methodist Church where he was a member. He also played trombone in a dance band called the Latitudes.

Al is survived by his wife, Marsha Johnson; daughter (and spouse), Jami (John) Melcher, Geneseo; grandchildren, Mathew and Megan Melcher; niece, Pat Wasmund; and nephew, Gary Nailor. In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Johnson; and sisters, Ada May Johnson and Ernestine Nailor.

Nellie Baux
Nellie May Baux, 94, of East Moline, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline. Services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Toni Ross officiating. Additional visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Gilbert-Boman Funeral Home, Albia, Iowa. Graveside services will follow at noon in Oak View cemetery , Albia, with the Rev. Robert Fitts officiating. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Chruch, East Moline.

She was born May 8, 1910, in Hiteman, Iowa, to Robert Johnston and Christina 'Babe' Lane Johnston Anderson. She married Irvin Alexander Baux in 1930 in Marshaltown, Iowa. He preceded her in death Dec. 30, 1988.

She was employed at Iowa Bell Telephone Co. in Des Moines until the dial system in 1929. She retired from the Rock Island Arsenal after 20 years as a machine operator.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, East Moline, for 50 years, and UMW. She loved her church and church family. She was also a member of N.A.R.F.E. Federal Employees. She loved to attend John Deere Local 79 Retirees' dinners.

She enjoyed writing letters, reading, and was a homebody. She loved animals, especially dogs and birds.

Survivors include cousins, nieces and nephews, especially Mary Jo Staton; special friends, Mary Lou Land, Bob Graham, John and Nancy Clouse, Albia, and Robert Fitts. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Robert Johnston; and stepbrother, Charles Edward Anderson.

Leona Hakeman
Leona 'Lee' Hakeman, 88, of Silvis, died July 28, 2004, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, for an 11 a.m. service at St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline.

She was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Joslin, Ill., to Reene and Frieda Laethem Landuit. She married Medie Hakeman Nov. 25, 1939, in Davenport. He died July 22, 1994.

She was a homemaker. She belonged to Our lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and she also enjoyed bingo.

Survivors include her son, Ken, Moline; grandchildren, Matt and Curt, Iowa City; sister, Mary Stewart, Tampa, Fla.; brother, Wallace Landuit, East Moline; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Donald Enyeart
Donald E. 'Don' Enyeart, 74, of Atkinson, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. Monsignor Don Fitzpatrick will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anthony's cemetery , Atkinson, where military honors will be accorded by Atkinson American Legion Post. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to Atkinson Rescue Squad.

Don was born March 9, 1930, in Mendon, Mo., son of Ernest J. and Bertha A. Cox Enyeart. He married Shirley Taets Nov. 17, 1951, in Atkinson.

He served his country in the Korean War as an Army tech sergeant. Don worked at International Harvester Works, East Moline, for 30 years, from which he retired from in 1980. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Atkinson, Atkinson American Legion Post and 40 & 8, Annawan. He enjoyed working on cars.

Survivors include his four sons and spouses, Tom and Vicky Enyeart, Atkinson, Jerry and Darcy Enyeart, Atkinson, John and Cindy Enyeart, Erie, Larry and Jo Enyeart, Normal, Ill.; three daughters and spouses, Vicki and Joe VanHerzeele, Atkinson, Conni and Steve Bristol, Geneseo, Kay and Ed McCoy, Seely Lake, Mont.; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Enyeart, Brookfield, Mo.; brother-in-law, Roy Daughtery, Camden, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Velma Enyeart, Lees Summit, Mo., Ann Enyeart, Riverside, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cliff and Earl; and a sister, Ruth.

Allen Hutt
Allen W. Hutt, 80, of Harlingen, Texas, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Harlingen.

Arrangements are pending at Family Funeral Services, Reynolds.

Rachel Mueller
Rachel Mueller, 76, of Urbana, Ill., died July 27, 2004, in Urbana.

Memorial services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge. Further arrangements are pending at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo.

Rosemary Phillips
Rosemary J. Phillips, 84, formerly of Cambridge, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo.

Services are pending at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge.
