Donald Meyers
Donald J. Meyers, 73, of Bourbonnais, Ill., died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, Ill.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Maternity BVM Church, Bourbonnais, where he was a member. Burial is in Maternity cemetery , Bourbonnais. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.

He was born July 1, 1931, in East Moline, to Charles L. and Lois Gager Meyers. He married Joan E. Lindenmeyer Feb. 10, 1968, in Kankakee. She died Dec. 14, 1992.

He graduated from St. Ambrose University with a bachelors degree. He received an M.A. from DePaul University and M.S. in German from the University of New Hampshire. He was a member of the Bradley Bourbonnais School Board.

He retired as a teacher at Bradley Bourbonnais High School for 27 years, and had been employed by the school for 32 years.

He was a member and acting secretary of the Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow Award recipient. He hosted many foreign exchange students and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Barbara Meyers, East Moline, and John and Pamela Meyers, Rock Island; seven nephews; four nieces including special niece, Laura Meyers DePaepe; great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles L. Meyers Jr.

Genevieve Edwards
Genevieve Mary Edwards, 83, of Oneida, Ill., died of natural causes Monday, July 26, 2004, at Marigold Health Care Center in Galesburg.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Woodhull, with the Rev. Eugene Radosevich officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull cemetery . Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home, Oneida, and 9 a.m. to services Friday at St. John's Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a memorial fund for ROWVA and AlWood schools.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1920, in Woodhull, the daughter of Daniel J. and Gertrude Martha Falloon May. She married Lester John Edwards on May 3, 1944, in Galesburg, He preceded her in death on May 28, 1976.

She was a graduate of Woodhull High School in Woodhull. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in rural Altona. She worked at several places in Woodhull, including for Nona Palm, at the grocery store as a clerk, cared for several families, was a waitress at two restaurants and clerked at the Cully Holmes Grocery Store. She lived at Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home, Oneida, for 28 years working as a receptionist.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Woodhull, and its Altar and Rosary Society

Survivors (and spouses) are her sister, Virginia Zurlo, Akron, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews, including Mary (Oliver 'Bud') Cruce, Altona, Patty (Marion) Hay, Aledo, Maryann (Richard) Maynard, Aledo, Barbara (John) Waugh, Aledo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, James May and Robert May; and a sister, Helena May.

Donald Enyeart
Donald E. 'Don' Enyeart, 74, of Atkinson died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo.

Arrangements are pending at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson.

Jean Morrison
Jean M. Morrison, 72, rural Prophetstown, died July 26, 2004.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday at McDonald, Prophetstown. Visitation is 10 a.m. to services Thursday. Jean was born Feb 7, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married Francis Corl. They later divorced.

Surviving are her children, Debbie Graves, Prophetstown, Jeannie Lewis and Kevin Corl, both Morrison, Francis Corl Jr., Sterling; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Patty Darringer, Dixie Gilson and Kenny Myers, all Cedar Rapids, Bonnie Kirklin and Jack Myers, both Moline, Jerry Myers, Colona.

John Albrecht
John David Albrecht, 64, Davenport, died July 26, 2004, at his home.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services Thursday. A reception will be held at Club Mokan in Davenport following services.

He was born June 25, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Harold and Irene Meumann Albrecht. He married Maryann Reineke in 1965.

Surviving are former wife, Maryann Albrecht, Hedrick, Iowa; and daughter, Sue Albrecht, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thomas Britt
Thomas E. Britt, 43, Manhattan Beach, Calif., formerly of Davenport died unexpectedly Monday in California.

Arrangements are pending at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home.

Mae Christian
Mae J. Christian, 85, of Carrollton, Texas, formerly Davenport, died Monday, July 26, 2004, in Carrollton.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service, Davenport.

Ellis Collins III
Ellis Collins III, 56, Davenport, died July 26, 2004, at home.

Services are 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Weerts, Davenport, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

He was born July 26, 1948, in Memphis, Tenn., to Ellis Jr. and Mary Ethel Collins. He married Gloria Long Aug. 14, 1971.

Surviving are his wife; daughter, Melonie, Tuskeegee, Ala.; mother, Memphis; brother, Ronald Collins, Memphis; cousins, nieces, nephews and dear life-long friends.

William Collins
Services for William Collins, 72, of Davenport are 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart, Davenport. Burial is in Mt. Calvary cemetery . Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport.

He died July 26, 2004, at Davenport Good Samaritan.

He was born in Davenport. He married Dorella Hodson in 1985. She died in 1998.

Survivors are children, Kimberly Bergthold and Thomas, St. Paul, Minn., Michael, Minneapolis, Joseph, Weston, Fla., Patrick, Enterprise, Ala.; three stepdaughters; 23 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and sister, Mary Gripp, Davenport.

Burrell Davidson
Burrell H. Davidson, 68, of Bettendorf died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Dorothy Gill
Dorothy M. Gill, 95, of Bettendorf died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

John `Jack' Hughes
Services for John 'Jack' Hughes, 90, Largo, Fla., formerly Davenport, are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic, Long Grove. Private burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church with 7 p.m. prayer services.

He died July 23, 2004, at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, Fla.

He married Lillian Zamastil in 1948. She died in 1978. He married Leota Winchester in 1981.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, including Sheryl Empke, Park View; a stepdaughter; four grandsons; two stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Donald Martens
Donald L. Martens, 71, a resident of Davenport, died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be 4 to 7 tonight at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children or to a favorite charity.

He was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Davenport, the son of Claus Herman and Aileen A. Pirschel Martens. He married Virginia K. Walter in 1955. He later married Doris Siemens Jasper in Davenport on May 15, 1993.

Don retired as a Chief Warrant Officer, 2nd Class from the U. S. Army on Nov. 30, 1972, after a 24-year military career. He received numerous citations and awards and served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

He received his B.A. degree in political science from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Davenport.

Don was also a member of Trinity Lodge No. 208 A.F. & A.M. of Davenport, Davenport Chapter 16 R.A.M., Scott Council 53 R. & S.M., St. Simon of Cyrene Commandry 9, the Knight's Templar. In addition he was a member of the Davenport Scottish Rite Bodies, Kaaba Shrine Temple, the Davenport Hi-12 Club, C.A.S.I. and the Quad-Cities Plus-60 Club.

In his leisure time, he took great pleasure in gardening, loved big-band music, was fond of ballroom dancing and enjoyed traveling throughout the world. Don was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan and had an avid interest in history and geography. He prided himself in his ability to recall facts, information and other bits of trivia from many years ago.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Doris; his sons, Donald L. Martens Jr., Pensacola, Fla., David C. Martens and his wife, Marsha, Papillion, Neb., and Daniel W. Martens, Bellevue, Neb.; his stepdaughters, Christine Leemans and her husband, Tony, LeClaire, Iowa, and Megan Jasper, Palm Springs, Calif.; his stepson, Joshua C. Jasper of Davenport; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Geraldine Tabor and her husband, Winston and Penelope Flatman, all of Davenport; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Martens, Davenport. Don was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Claus H. Martens Jr.

Charles Nemecek
Charles J. 'Chuck' Nemecek, 47, of Bettendorf, died July 24, 2004, in Bettendorf.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Runge, Davenport. Burial is in Pine Hill cemetery . Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. today and two hours prior to service at the mortuary.

Chuck was born Sept. 29, 1956, in Oak Park, Ill. to Charles A. and Helen Bazata Nemecek.

He had been a maintenance mechanic at Oscar Mayer.

Survivors include his mother, Helen, Bettendorf; sister, Christine Nemecek, Wayne, Ill.; brother, Craig, Bettendorf; uncles, aunts and cousins.

Georgia Parker
Georgia May Parker, 81, Davenport, died July 25, 2004, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

She was born April 3, 1923, in Taylor County, Iowa, to George and Maggie Scroggie. She married William Parker Jan. 25, 1943. He died in 1978.

Surviving are daughters, Donna Skinner, Janet McKittrick, Carol Warmuth, Karen Ruddy, Davenport; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Jenny Webb, Phoenix, Ariz., Jessica and Robert Scroggie.

Kirk Ullrich
Kirk A. Ullrich, 49, Davenport, died Monday July 26, 2004, in a bicycle accident while participating in RAGBRI, in Sioux City, Iowa.

Services are noon Friday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where further arrangements are pending.

Jack Battin
Jack W. Battin, 78, of Monmouth, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. Cremation will take place following services. Burial in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery , Joliet, Ill., will be at a later date.

Jack was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Guy E. and Ruth Elisabeth Parks Battin. He married Mary R. Labor in 1950.

Survivors (and spouses) are his wife, Mary, Monmouth; daughter, Deborah (Rick) Fox, Medford, Wis.; sons, J. Greg (Laurie), Country Club Hills, Ill., Mark E. (Karen), Chicago; seven grandchildren; brother, Bobby, Rock Island; sisters, Helen Angstead, Fairfield, Betty Lekos, Rock Island; several nieces and nephews.
