Kailer Thomas McKeag, infant son of Christi Elise Baumeister and Shane Thomas McKeag, Ames, Iowa, died on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, Ames, with Tim Crawley officiating. Burial will follow in Ames Municipal cemetery .

Kailer's survivors are his parents; grandparents, Randy and Jerri Baumeister, Ames, and Tom and Chris McKeag, Milan; and a loving family.

Beverly Anderson
Beverly J. Anderson, 65, of Geneseo died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Douglas Love will officiate. Burial will be in North cemetery , Geneseo. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, Geneseo.

Beverly was born on June 9, 1940, in Morrison, the daughter of John and Jeanette Tenbore Norman. She married Charles M. Anderson July 11, 1959, in Morrison.

Bev had worked at Genesis West, Davenport, as an environmental aide until she retired. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Geneseo Emergency Unit. Bev enjoyed fishing and spending time with her friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; two daughters, Rhonda Munson, Princeton, Ill., Tammy Dixon and her fiance, Garry Shirrell, South Bend, Ind.; one son and spouse, Don and Wendy Anderson, Geneseo; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Helen Brokaw
Funeral services for Helen Lee Brokaw, 75, of Aledo are 2 p.m. Sunday at the Viola United Presbyterian Church, with Lay Pastor Sheila Sheer officiating. Burial will be in Aledo cemetery . Visitation is from 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the Viola United Presbyterian Church.

Helen Lee died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo.

Helen Lee was born on Jan. 16, 1930, in Viola, to Virgil and Margaret Brown Peterson. She was a graduate of Aledo High School and had attended Blackburn College in Carlinsville. Helen Lee and Robert Brokaw were married on Dec. 9, 1950, in Aledo.

Helen Lee was an active member of the Viola United Presbyterian Church where she was a trustee, deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and a member of the women's church group. She was also a 4-H leader and enjoyed decorating cakes, baking pies, gardening, canning, card club and especially spending time with her family.

Helen Lee was a dedicated homemaker who was very proud of all her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. She worked with her husband on the family farm in Greene Township. She had also been secretary for the States Attorney, a home care provider and was currently employed as a program assistant with the University of Illinois.

Helen Lee is survived by her husband, Robert; five children and their spouses, Sharon and Bill Zigmont, Stockton, Ill., Debby and Jeff Brandon, Dalton City, Ill., Mark Brokaw and partner, Andrew Farber, New York City, N.Y., Bradley and Susan Brokaw, and Christina and Brett Nelson, all of Aledo; a sister, Dorothy Roseboom, Aledo; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Rosca, the Mercer County Hospital and Mercer County Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Helen Lee.

LeRoy Brown
LeRoy Edwin Brown, 85, of Taylor Ridge, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at his home.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the family, to be designated later.

LeRoy was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Moline, a son of Walter Brown and Marie Whitmore Brown. He married Mildred "Billie" Scheuermann on Sept. 30, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him on death on April 11, 1979. He later married Etta M. Wolfe on April 17, 1980, in Mountain Home, Ark.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from American Air Filters, Moline. He also owned Breezy Hills Stables and was a horseshoer.

LeRoy was an avid horseman, outdoorsman and euchre player. He was a lifetime member of Illinois City Saddle Club, Illinois Stock Horse Association and Disabled Veterans of America. His interests included woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Etta Brown, Taylor Ridge; daughters (and spouses), Nikki (Don) Roberts, Milan, and Peggy (Eugene) Epping, Blue Grass; stepchildren (and spouses), Bill (Ginny) Wolfe, Des Moines, Iowa, Pam (Ron) Damewood, Davenport, Cheryl Wolfe, Iowa City, Iowa, Tina (Jim) Sheppard, Des Moines, and Nancy Petersen and Dennis Croegaert, Moline; 20 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Russ Brown, East Moline; and sister, Janet Kahlhamer, Waupin, Wis. Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife; brothers, Walter, Joseph and Wilbur Brown; a sister, Mabel West; and a stepson, Tim Wolfe.

Nicholas Caras
Nicholas P. Caras, 74, of Osprey, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Kewanee. Condolences may be paid to the family from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday evening at the home of Stanley and Kay Coin, 2229 31st Ave., Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island.

He was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Geneseo. He moved to Sarasota, Fla., in 1992 from Tucson, Ariz., and moved to Osprey, Fla., in 2003 from Sarasota. He worked in sales with Karmelkorn Shoppes and with Generations Salon Services for the past ten years in Florida. He was a member of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, Osprey, Fla.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Nancy L.; a daughter, Corrine Smith, Rock Island; a stepdaughter, Bridget Smith, Edwardsville, Ill.; a son, Peter, Rock Island; a stepson, Brian Bonne, Herscher, Ill.; sisters, Christina

Dorothy Engelkins
Dorothy Engelkens, 75, Fulton, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bosma-Renkes, Fulton. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Sunday. Burial is in Fulton Township cemetery .

She was born March 27, 1930. She married Bernard Engelkins Aug. 31, 1946.

Survivors are husband; children, Vicki Steward, Florida, Jerry, Morrison, Steve, Andrew, Iowa, Ricky, Clinton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Luella Good, Mary Woods, both Clinton, Paul and Clarence Geerts, both Elwood, Iowa.

LaVerne Freebeck
LaVerne R. Freebeck, 82, of Hampton, formerly of Chicago, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Pathway Hospice of Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Chapel, Chicago, where additional visitation will be 3-8 p.m. on Monday. Burial is in Oak Hill cemetery , Hammond, Ind. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

LaVerne Skinner was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Chicago, a daughter of George and Anna Stark Skinner. She married Conrad Freebeck, Oct. 11, 1941, in Indiana. He died Jan. 28, 1989.

Mrs. Freebeck worked for the American Correspondence School, Chicago.

She was a former member of Lebanon Lutheran Church, Pythian Sisters, Golden Agers and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Chicago. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rock Island.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and George Atkinson, East Moline; grandsons (and their wives), Jeffrey (Jolene) Atkinson, Lake Charles, La., MAC Scott (Elizabeth) Atkinson, serving with the U.S. Navy stationed at SantaRita, Guam, Gerrold (Carol) Atkinson, Moline; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jacob, Emma, Garrett, Katelyn, Victoria and Maxwell Atkinson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and a grandson, Gregory.

Berniece Kuykendall
Berniece Kuykendall, 98, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly Fulton, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility, Clinton.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Bosma-Renkes, Fulton. Interment is in Fulton Township cemetery . Visitation is 1 p.m. to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian, Fulton.

She was born May 30, 1907, in Pisgah, Iowa, to John and Bertha Small Erway. She married Charles Kuykendall Jan. 10, 1932, in Omaha, Neb. He died May 28, 1993.

Survivors are son, Paul (spouse, Jane) Kuykendall, Fulton; and two nieces of Bellevue, Neb. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Bonnie in infancy; and three brothers, John, Benjamin and Max Erway.

Jefferson Lawson
Jefferson B. Lawson, 78, of New Windsor, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley.

Edith Spahnie
Edith A. Spahnie, 82, of Viola, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Trinity West, Rock Island.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, in Cable cemetery . Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Memorials may be made to the family.

She was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Rock Island County, the daughter of Joseph and Eveline Moody Hill. She married Roy J. Spahnie on Sept. 13, 1945, in Davenport. He preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1991.

She was a homemaker. Edith was an avid gardener. She loved flowers and birds. She enjoyed their farm. She also enjoyed being with her children, friends and also her home health nurses.

Survivors include her two daughters, Nancy Jo Palmer, Bison, Kan., Kathy Kersey, Viola; three sons, James Spahnie, North Henderson, Jerry Spahnie and Amos J. Spahnie, both of Viola; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Dasso, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, four sisters, a grandson, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.

Henry `Todd' Filseth
Henry "Todd" Filseth, 69, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center West Campus, Davenport.

Beatrice Geifman
Beatrice B. Geifman, 87, of Davenport, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Tri City Jewish Center, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Hebrew cemetery . There is no visitation. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Tri City Jewish Center.

Beatrice Packer was born Jan. 1, 1918, in Chicago, a daughter of Samuel and Bessie Schoenfeld Packer. She married Sam Geifman, Aug. 15, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wis. He died Jan. 18, 1999.

Mrs. Geifman was a member of the Tri City Jewish Center, Temple Emanuel, Davenport, the Sisterhood, B'nai B'rith, ORT and a life member of Hadassah. She enjoyed painting and sculpting.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard G. and Joannie Geifman, Bettendorf; daughters and a son-in-law, Diana and Dr. Robert Barkin, Deerfield, Ill., Beverly Ungar, Santa Fe, N.M.; grandchildren and their spouses, David and Liz Geifman, Jeff and Nicki Geifman, Steve and Joni Geifman, Deborah Ungar, Elizabeth Ungar, Stacie Barkin, Stephanie (Barkin) and Matthew Colrain; great-grandchildren, Max, Talia, Sophie, Isaac, Sydney, Jack and Ethan Geifman.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the friendship and care provided by Virginia, Reese, Kim and Marlese, and also to the special people from Genesis Hospice.

Clifford Kaufman
Clifford Dale Kaufman, 66, of Washington, Ill., died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at his home.

Service are 10 a.m. Monday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Private burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

He was born May 7, 1939.

Survivors are children, Kevin, Pekin, Ill., Kenny, Dixon, Iowa, Debbie Wells, Wilton, Iowa; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; mother, Sarah, Moline; siblings, Roger, Kansas City, Mo., William, Fern, both Moline, Georgia Null, Camanche, Iowa, Mary Campbell, Davenport, Jean Souser, Sterling, Bonnie Jensen, Colona.

Lilly Marsh
Lilly R. Marsh, 60, of Bettendorf, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Trinity Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the family. The Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is assisting the family.

Lilly was born Feb. 14, 1945, in Grandview, Iowa, the daughter of Orland and Rosyie Harris Preston. On Nov. 15, 1966, she was united in marriage to Melvin L. Marsh in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1998.

Lilly had been a private duty registered nurse for many years prior to her retirement.

Survivors are children, Sharon, Bettendorf, Lilly Maher, Clinton, Iowa, Diane Galloway, Denver, Colo., Melvin Jr., Kansas City, Mo., Rodney, Austin, Texas, Robert, Davenport, Roger, Muscatine, Iowa; and numerous grandchildren.

Mary Peters
Mary A. Peters, 64, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at her home.

Margaret `Peggy' Porter
Margaret "Peggy" Porter, 87, of Bettendorf, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at the Bettendorf Health Care Center.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

She was born Feb. 11, 1918, to Carl and Ethel Schiebel. She married Donald Clay. He preceded her in death. She then married James Porter Sr. June 16, 1962. He died May 22, 1999.

Survivors are daughter, Donna Mead, Bettendorf; six grandsons; six great-grandchildren; brother, Myron Schiebel, Rock Island.

Robert Schooler
Services for Robert Schooler, 78, of Davenport, 1 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic, Davenport. Inurnment is at a later date in St. Mary's cemetery , Fort Mitchell, Ky. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with prayers at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

He was born July 18, 1927, to Leonard and Mary Alice Schooler. He married Mary Ebel May 27, 1961. She preceded her in death June 10, 2000.

Survivors (and spouses) are children, Susan (Dr. Stephen) Weiss, Debary, Fla., Robert, San Francisco, Calif.; one granddaughter, Tessa Weiss; two sisters-in-law, Carol Reit and Shirley Schooler; nieces, Karen and Victoria; nephews, Rick and Ken. His wife; parents; and brother, Leonard Schooler preceded him in death.
