Ethel Becka
Ethel Mae Becka, 90, of Coal Valley, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at her residence.

Private graveside services will be Thursday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. There will be no visitation. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ethel was born March 30, 1916, in Dundee, Ill., daughter of Robert and Clara Scheonhoven Howie. She married Ernest Becka Nov. 16, 1933, in Chicago. He preceded his wife in death Jan. 26, 1979.

Mrs. Becka worked for many years as a waitress at Tom Balla's Airport Restaurant. Ethel enjoyed going to the Quad-Cities area riverboats and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Robert E. Becka, Bagley, Wis.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Doug Bateman, Rock Island; grandchildren, Kim Becka, Tom Becka, Mesa, Ariz., Jeff Becka, Minnesota, Wes, Wyatt and Wade Clark, all of Des Moines, Iowa, Amy and her husband, Larry Kendall, Davenport; great-grandchildren, Andrea, Autumn, Lauren, Derek and Cheyenne.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Margerite Clark; a grandson, Wayne Clark; a granddaughter, Konni Mae Cook; and two brothers, Robert and Harold Howie.

Grover Ballard
Grover C. Ballard, 69, of Woodhull, passed away on Nov. 9, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island, where he was a member. Interment will follow in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Visiation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Grover was born April 13, 1937, in Shuqualak, Miss., son of Will and Minerva Turner Ballard. He was united in marriage to Cora B. Edgerson September 1980.

He was employed at Deere Harvester in East Moline for 30 years as a welder. He was a union steward and committeman of UAW Local 865. He retired in 1996.

He enjoyed organic gardening and loved fishing, especially bass fishing, which was his CB handle. He was also quite a handyman.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Cora B. Edgerson Ballard, Woodhull; his mother, Minerva Ballard, Pulaski, Ill.; his mother-in-law, Mattie Brazier, Rock Island; a son, Orlando (Agnes) Edgerson, Houston, Texas; one granddaughter, Aigner Edgerson, Houston. He is also survived by nine brothers (and spouses), George (Dellena) Ballard, Rock Island, Willie E. (Mary) Ballard, Port Byron, Clevland Ballard, Pulaski, the Rev. Edward (Odessa) Ballard, Pulaski, Robert (Flora) Ballard, Pulaski, Johnny (Sandra) Ballard, Joliet, Ill., David (Brenda) Ballard, Pulaski, Curtis (Debbra) Ballard, Atlanta, Ga., Donnie (Rudell) Blake, Pulaski; three sisters, Mary Richardson, Rock Island, Christine Leak, Pulaski, and Maxine (Manley) Ballard, Rock Island; and his brothers-in-law, Hilliard and Curtis Edgerson, Rock Island, and Booker Edgerson, Buffalo, N.Y. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and numberous friends. He was preceded in death by his father on Sept. 6, 2006; a sister, Betty Jean Ballard; his grandparents; nieces and nephews.

Frank Carlson
Frank H. Carlson, 86, of Aledo, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo.

Elizabeth Charleston
Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Charleston, 38, of Erie, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Erie, where she was a member. Burial will be in Erie cemetery . Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary at 6 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie.

Elizabeth was born July 12, 1968, in Harvey, Ill., daughter of Marvin T. Sr. and Helen S. Orzel Charleston. She enjoyed animals, crafts, computers and small children.

Survivors include her parents, Erie; a sister and brother-in-law, Constance Charleston and Roger Zupko, Bound Brook, N.J.; a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin Jr. and Nora Charleston, Payson, Ariz.; a niece, Adiana Rose Charleston; and a nephew, Tristan Charleston.

LaVerne Reiling
Funeral services for LaVerne S. Reiling, 61, of Port Byron, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will follow in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

Mr. Reiling died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

LaVerne Syrenus Reiling was born Sept. 21, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa, to George and Viola Timm Reiling. He was a graduate of Wheatland High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy in Vietnam.

He was employed for 43 years as a repairman at McLaughlin Body Co. in Moline. He was a member of UAW Local No. 1414, was an avid fisherman, and loved to play cards, especially euchre, and to shoot pool.

Survivors include his loving companion of many years, Phyllis Summers, Port Byron; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Bill Tanner, Davenport; grandchildren, Trent and Hilary Tanner; sisters (and spouses), Norma (Lyle) Sheldon, Elaine (Lawrence) McCormick and Gloria (Alan) Kagemann, all of DeWitt; brothers, Virtus (Joanne) Reiling, Clarence, Iowa, Kenneth (Pat) Reiling, Ocean Springs, Miss., Roland (Verlee) Reiling, Wheatland, Larry (Leah Rae) Reiling, Walcott, and Wayne (Mary) Reiling, Davenport.

Mr. Reiling was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Karen Reiling, Phyllis Weiland and Fern Reiling.

Mary Rosalie Swank
Mary Rosalie Swank, 82, of Aledo, formerly of Keithsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Keithsburg. Burial is in Greenmound cemetery , Keithsburg. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Keithsburg Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service. Arrangements are by Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. She was born May 23, 1924, in Keithsburg, a daughter of Harry and Mary Gaylor Clark. She attended Keithsburg schools. She married Henry B. Swank Dec. 18, 1939, in Wapello, Iowa.

Rosalie operated her own gift shop in Keithsburg for many years and also wrote a book on the history of Keithsburg in celebration of its bicentennial.

She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in Keithsburg, was an avid reader and loved to make quilts for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Swank, Aledo; a son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Pat Swank, Lake Warren, Monmouth, Ill.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Connie Doss; one sister; and two brothers.

Helen Blakely
Helen Blakely, 90, of Walla Walla, Wash., formerly of Davenport, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Walla Walla General Hospital.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary & Crematory, Davenport.

M. June Corwin
M. June Corwin, 79, of Davenport, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with an Order of Amaranth service at 7 p.m. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

She was born June 10, 1927, to John and Mildred DeJongh.

Survivors (and spouses) are her sons, Tim (Sandy) Laesch, Forsyth, Ill., Larry (Sue) Laesch, Villa Park, Ill.; stepson, Phil (Ginny) Corwin, Bettendorf; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Michael DeCock
Michael E. DeCock, 28, of Wilton, Iowa, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at his home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. The officiant will be the Rev. James Vrba of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton. Private inurnment will take place at the Roselawn Memorial Estates, Moline. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society, Muscatine, Iowa, in his memory.

Michael DeCock was born March 26, 1978, in Davenport to Robert and Lisa Schmitt DeCock.

Mike worked for Allied Material Handling, Des Moines, as a mechanic. Michael was a former member and Ranger with the Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Muscatine Boat Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating and dancing. He was a talented carpenter and woodworker. He loved his dogs, Lucky, who is a rescue dog, and Abby, who is a Hurricane Katrina survivor.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his parents, Robert and Lisa DeCock, Wilton; his grandmother, June Schmitt, Moline; his aunts, Patricia Bellmyer and her husband, Jeff, Moline, Jean Anderson and her husband, Derek, Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Elaine O'Hara and her husband, Jack, Seattle, Wash.; and cousins, Brandi, Jake, Scott, Todd, Mitch and Matt. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy Schmitt and Henry and Leona DeCock.

Gloria Evrard-Hoffmann
Gloria R. Evrard-Hoffmann, 62, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Pathway Hospice at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m., Monday. Burial is in Pine Hill cemetery , Davenport.

She married Bill Evrard in 1965. He died in 1973. She married Gary Hoffmann in 1998.

Surviving are her husband; daughters, Shelley Greene, Castle Rock, Colo., Kristin Harincar, Victoria, Minn., Tara Youngers, Long Grove, Robin Hoffmann, Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; and a sister.

Mary Lane
Mary Ann Miletich Lane, 92, a resident of Kahl Home, Davenport, died Friday, Nov. 10, at the home.

Services are 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Kahl Home Chapel. Burial is 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Peter's cemetery , Lovilia, Iowa. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with a rosary at 6 p.m.

Mary was born April 29, 1914.

Surviving are her daughter, Rose Mary Martin Lane, Waterloo, Iowa; sons, Dennis, San Diego, Calif., Richard, Denver, Colo., Gary, Eldridge, Nick Joe, Marion, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother.

Christine Ramirez-Cossin
Christine M. Ramirez-Cossin, 58, of Redford Township, Mich., formerly of Davenport, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at Angela Hospice, Lavonia, Mich.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

George Ridgway
George L. Ridgway, 88, of Eldridge, died Nov. 10, 2006, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

He was born Sept. 17, 1918, to Pearl and Lou Ridgway. He married Aleatha Waughop in 1946. She died in 1993.

Survivors (and spouses) are his children, Marlene (Wallace) Bloomer, Eldridge, Roberta (Ron) Roehlk, Davenport, Rosemary Carlyle, Port Byron, Donald (Bonita) Jurgensen, Urbandale, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Laura Ridgway, Davenport; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers.

Margaret Sulentic
Margaret M. Sulentic, 84, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at her home.

Evelyn Thornburg
Evelyn M. Thornburg, 77, of Davenport, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Gary Wadsworth
Gary W. Wadsworth, 63, of Davenport, died Nov. 9, 2006, at home.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Monday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 10:30 a.m. to services. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

He was born Feb. 28, 1944, in Rockford, Ill., to Paul and Emogene Wadsworth. He married Shirley Ruge April 6, 1968, in Davenport.

Survivors are his wife; daughter, Becky Wadsworth, Plano, Texas; son, Scott Wadsworth, Davenport; three grandchildren; sisters, Linda, Debbie, Lana, Carol, Andrea and Pat; brothers, Gregg and Brett; stepmother, Marie Wadsworth, Rockford, Ill.

William Wulf
William E. Wulf, 82, of Bettendorf, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at Runge Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Ashbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf or the Handicapped Development Center.

He was born March 23, 1924, in Davenport, son of Arthur and Ethel Carlson Wulf. He served in the Army during World War II, working in intellgence in London, England. Bill Wulf was united in marriage to Betty J. Jansen Aug. 5, 1948, in Los Angeles, Calif.

He was a medical salesman and later a purchasing administrator at the former Lutheran Hospital, Moline, retiring in 1989. Bill and Betty traveled extensively. He was a very creative artist and writer, frequently contributing his opinion in the Quad City Times editiorial page. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies. Bill was a member of Ashbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Betty J. Wulf, Bettendorf; son, Tom Wulf, Anaheim Hills, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Pete and Mary Wulf, Princeton, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Betty M. Wulf, Bradenton, Fla., and Richard and Ruth Wulf, Des Moines. Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bernice Napier.

Josie Franks
Josie K. Franks, 85, of Rock Island, died, Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island.
