Services: The Memorial service will be held 2:00pm on Sunday at Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Visitation: The family will greet friends Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 325 Mormon Trek, Iowa City.
Marcelle Ruth Williams, 53 of 1232 Duck Creek Dr. and formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska died Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a battle with breast cancer.
Marcelle was born icon September 21, 1950 the daughter of Jerome and Angela (Cabrera) Christensen. She attended Ruskin High School and received her B.A. in Mathematics and Education from University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating Summa Cum Laude. On August 22, 1970 she married Jerry L.Williams. For twenty one years she worked as a systems analyst for the state of Nebraska, Dept. of Revenue. Since 1991 she has worked as a secretary for the University Of Iowa College Of Law Library. Marcelle was a very active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school and Confirmation classes. She also served on the Building Committee on the Congregational Counsel and chairperson of the Education Committee, usher and a member of the women of ELCA. Marcelle enjoyed reading and spending time with her loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Williams of Iowa City; her children, Sonya Miller and her husband Rustin of Iowa City, Iowa; her son, Blake Williams Iowa City and his fiancée Becky Deutmeyer of Dyersville, Iowa; her sister, Alana Stirn and her husband Kenneth of Kearney, Nebraska; and her brother, Rick Garcia and his wife Gale of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She is also survived by one grandchild, Dallas Miller.
Her parents preceded her death.
Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics Breast Cancer Research Fund.

Mary Adelaide McGinnis
Born: July 31, 1915
Died: December 16, 2003
Services: Services will be held Friday, December 19 at 1:00 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City with Reverend Peter Sanderson officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Iowa City.
Visitation: The family will greet friends Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mary Adelaide McGinnis, 88, of 117 3rd Street in Hills and formerly of Iowa City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Mary was born icon July 31, 1915 in Sharon Center, Iowa, the daughter of Elza M. & Mary E. (Winborn) Means. Mary graduated from Iowa City High School.
She worked for more than 20 years at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in the Ophthalmology Records Department, retiring in 1980. Mary was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City. She was a former member of the American Business Women’s Association and she very much enjoyed being an Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially Hawkeye basketball.
Survivors include her daughter, Kay Flannery & her husband Dale of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Patrick Flannery, Michael Flannery, Joelle Miller Kingdom and Chad Miller; eight great-grandchildren, Cory, Liam, Brendon & Aidan Flannery, Zachary & Nicholas Kingdom and Nathan & Trinity Miller;
a son in law, Joel Miller of Loveland, Colorado; two nephews and one niece.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Patricia Miller in November of this year and a brother Bud Means.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Atrium Village.

Eleanora Charlene Betsy Ross
Born: January 03, 1932
Died: December 15, 2003
Services: Funeral Services to celebrate Eleanora’s life will be Sunday, December 21, 2003 at 1:00PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Rev. David Aanonson officiating. A reception at the church will follow services. Family Graveside Services will be Monday at Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, Iowa.
Visitation: Friends may call Saturday from 4-7PM at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville.
Eleanora “Betsy” Ross, 71, of 508 – 5th Street, Coralville, died peacefully Monday, December 15, 2003 at her home following a long illness.
Eleanora Charlene Miller was born icon January 3, 1932 in Washington, Iowa; the daughter of Roy and Erna Spera Miller. She was married to Robert Anderson from 1951-71 and married Bill Ross in 1973, who then gave her the nickname “Betsy.” Eleanora received her BGS Degree in 1979 from the University of Iowa in religion, journalism and psychology and had done graduate studies in counseling. She received her certification in grief counseling and death education in 1990.
Betsy was the Founder (1976) and Executive Director of Ray of Hope, Inc., the first support group in the country for the survivors of suicide. She was a nationally known speaker, consultant and writer in the area of suicide survivorship. Betsy was the publisher and editor for Lynn Publications, which developed seminars on loss, grief, bereavement, broken relationships, and suicide prevention. She published many books, pamphlets, and articles on suicide, including: Life After Suicide: A Ray of Hope for Those Left Behind, in 1979 with revisions in 1981 and 1997; and a booklet “After Suicide: A Unique Grief Process” in 1979, selling thousands of copies. Betsy had appeared on numerous radio and television programs including the Today Show and Donahue. She presented over 100 seminars and workshops and had received numerous honors and awards including; the first recipient of the David Braverman Award (1980), the Survivor Recognition Award (1999) and was in the Who’s Who of American Women(1986-2000).
Her memberships include; the Association for Death Education and Counseling, American Association of Suicidology, Omicron Delta Kappa, National Association for Female Executives, and Association for Christian Counselors and Therapists.
Betsy was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and had been involved in the Humane Society’s Foster Program for pets. She loved her cats and enjoyed dancing, traveling and horseback riding.
She will be deeply missed by her two sons; Daryl Anderson of Ainsworth and David Anderson of Columbus Junction; one daughter Rebecca Anderson of Ocala, Florida; one granddaughter Kimberly of Casselberry, Florida; two brothers Norman Miller of Davenport and Mervin Miller and his wife Mary of Rockford, Illinois.
Eleanora was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Robert and Bill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ray of Hope, Inc., the Johnson County Humane Society or Christ The King Lutheran Church.

Gwyrneth Gwen Coulter

Died: November 29, 2003
Services: 10:00 AM Tuesday St. Mary's Catholic Church
Visitation: Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Lensing Funeral Service 605 Kirkwood Ave.
Gwyrneth “Gwen” Coulter, 101 formerly of 2106 Muscatine Avenue and a resident of Crestview Care Center died Saturday, November 29, 2003 in West Branch.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Kenneth Kuntz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Crestview Care Center.
Gwen was born icon June 25, 1902 in Thornburg, Iowa the daughter of John Thomas and Whilmet H. Dansdill Morton. She married Ward Marion Coulter on June 7, 1921 in Sigourney, Iowa.
Gwen was a long-time Iowa City beautician who had worked at Blackstone’s and other downtown hair salons prior to operating her own salon in her home. She retired in 1963.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was the oldest living member of the church. She was also a member of NAIM Club, the Rag Rollers at St. Mary’s and a former member of the National Hairdressers Association.
Gwen had a special love for roses and violets and enjoyed many springs and summers at their cottage on Lake MacBride.
She is survived by her son Wendell Coulter and his wife Nona of Iowa City, Iowa and by three grandchildren, Tom Coulter and his wife Marilyn and Connie Zahradnek and her husband Larry, both of Iowa City and Michael Coulter and his wife Ruth of Aledo, Illinois; nine great-grandchildren; Dawn, Kelley, Kimberley, Elizabeth, Wayne, Thomas, Aaron, Debby and Bob; five great-great grandchildren, Sawyer, Victoria, Samantha, Alexandra and Dalton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ward, one sister Ruth Reynolds, two brothers, Leo and Howard, one great great granddaughter Kassie

Robert L. Speed Dahnke
Born: August 11, 1923
Died: December 13, 2003
Services: Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 10:30 AM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Speed’s name.
Robert L. ‘Speed” Dahnke, 80, of 1 Apollo Place, died Saturday, December 13, 2003 at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Oxford, Iowa on August 11, 1923 he was the son of George and Beulah Henderson Dahnke. He was married to the late Edith Evans. In September 1975 he married Rosemary Roskup.
Speed and his family moved to Iowa City from Oxford in 1951. He owned and operated Speed’s Tavern in Iowa City for many years. His business was first located at the corner of Dubuque and Burlington Streets, then moved to Gilbert Street where the Sanctuary is now located. Later the business moved to the present sight of Fitzpatrick’s.
Speed was a longtime member of the Iowa City Moose Lodge, where he had bartended for 20 years. He had also worked at Sears and as the Coralville K Mart as a greeter.. Presently he was working at Cub Foods.
Speed was a people person who never forgot a face. He was well known for his pleasant smile and cheerful disposition. Dancing, antiques, antique cars and fishing were some of his favorite pastimes. During the 1950’s Speed and his family enjoyed weekends at their cabin on Lake Delhi.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary of Iowa City
One Son; Bob Dahnke and his wife Cindi of North Liberty; Eight stepchildren including John Jones and his wife Carole of Coralville, Sandy Stephenson and her husband Daryl, and Dale Jones and his wife Shiloh, both of Iowa City;
Three grandchildren; Rob, Ron and Rachelle.
Six great grandchildren, Four Brothers; Doc Dahnke of Coralville, Lyle Dahnke and his wife Joann, Kenny Dahnke and his wife Grace, Jack Dahnke and his wife Susan, all of Muscatine. Five Sisters; Betty Bartholomew and Virginia Poggenpohl, both of Iowa City, Delores Curtis and her husband Gene and Diane Littrel and her husband John, both of Muscatine, Ramona McCleary and her husband Richard of Milan, Illinois.
Speed was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Rita Hobbs Williams and two brothers Dale and Bill.

Mary Pusateri Rocca
Born: July 25, 1904
Died: November 27, 2003
Services: Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 1, 2003 at 10AM at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. A luncheon at the parish hall will follow committal services.
Visitation: Friends may call from 3-7:30PM, Sunday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where the Catholic Daughters of America will recite a rosary at 4PM and a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 6:30PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Catholic Community Foundation or the Congregation of Humility of Mary, Davenport.
Mary Pusateri Rocca, 99, of Iowa City died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 27, 2003 at Mercy Hospital following a short illness.
Mary was born icon on July 25, 1904 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Geraci Pusateri. Her parents were of Italian descent and moved from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City. They ran a fruit market in downtown Iowa City. At that time many children, including Mary and her brother Gus, were raised in the downtown area. Mary was the last surviving child of those children raised downtown. Mary was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She married Peter A. Rocca at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City on June 24, 1926. They celebrated 58 years of marriage. Peter died in 1984.
Mary stayed at home to raise her children and later was a pastry baker at St. Mary’s and Horace Mann School. She enjoyed baking, especially pizza and sweet rolls, gardening, sewing, puzzles and playing the piano.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who was deeply religious and prayerful. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Altar and Rosary, a 75 year member of Catholic Daughters of America and the NAIM Club.
Mary is survived by her children, 24 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren,
Edward Rocca and his wife, Linda of Muscatine and their daughters Mary and Tina; Phil Rocca and his wife Shirley of Iowa City and their sons Andy, Gerry and Phil; Sister Mary Rocca CHM OF Iowa City; Mike Rocca and his wife Beryl of Rochester, Iowa and their daughters Michelle and Stephanie; Jim Rocca and his wife Mary Jo of Ellisville, Missouri and their sons Jon, Steve and Doug; Loretta Clark and her husband Jim of Iowa City and their children Margret, Angela, Bryan, Jeff and Joe.
Two daughter-in-laws, Trudy Rocca (Joe) of Rochester. Minnesota and their children David, Craig, Lisa, Darcy, Kevin and Denice; Ellen Rocca (John) of Lone Tree, Iowa and their children Dawn, Matt and Liz
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Josephine, two sons Joe and John, a great granddaughter, Mary Ellen and her brother Gus Pusateri

Ethel E. Nelson
Born: July 15, 1912
Died: December 08, 2003
Services: A Memorial service will be held 4:00 pm Wednesday, December 10 at Lensing Funeral Service 605 Kirkwood Ave.
Visitation: The family will greet friends one hour before the service at Lensing’s.
Ethel E. Nelson, 91 of 425 N. Dubuque Street, North Liberty, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.
Ethel was born icon July 15, 1912 near Wapello, Iowa the daughter of Melvin and Myrtle Shipman Main. She graduated from City High School in Iowa City, Iowa in 1930. She graduated from the Irish Business College in Iowa City and before marriage worked for the Telephone Co. She married John A. Nelson in Kahoka Missouri in 1935. They farmed south of Iowa City for a number of years before moving to Colorado. In Iowa Ethel worked for Eicher flowers and the University of Iowa. While living in Boulder she worked for the University of Colorado in the Psychology Department. In 1977 she retired from the A.C. Nielsons Neodata Service Company in Boulder, Colorado. After the death of her husband, Ethel lived in Ft. Collins, Colorado where she enjoyed babysitting, gardening and her many friends. In 1994 she moved back to Iowa and lived in North Liberty to be near her family and friends.
She is survived by her one son, Robert Nelson of Oregon; two daughters Patricia Harvey and her husband Robert of Belle Fourch, South Dakota and Gayle J. Nelson of North Liberty. Six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by a special family in Fort Collins, Dennis and Nancy Marion and their daughters Kelly and Kristi. And also a special adopted daughter Pam Ferguson of North Liberty, Iowa.
Her parents, her husband, one half brothers, Charles Fisher, three half sisters, Lillian Lenz, Beulah Johnson and Gayle Pieper all preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
