Lucille “Lucy” Bunn, age 53 of Marengo, died Monday, March 5, 2007 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 8, 2007, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where there will be a Scripture Service held at 6:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her husband Gary; three sons, Chad McLeod (Deborah) of Toledo, and Leif Morris (Amanda) of Chelsea, and Gary Jr. (Sangao) of Edwards Air Force Base in California; two daughters, Sheri Thomas and husband Eric of Atkins and Andre’ Bunn of Davenport; 9 grandchildren, Zach, Jarret, and Kelsie Morris, Tony Werner, Gracie Thomas, Drake and Damian McLeod, and Anna and Noble Bunn. In addition, she is survived by her mother, Albie Behounek of Tama and two sisters, Monica Hoherz (Paul) of Iowa City and Elaine Behounek of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Bob and Larry Behounek.
Lucille Marian Behounek was born December 30, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Albie (Hala) Behounek. She attended Tama High School and graduated from Marshalltown Community College as a registered nurse. She married Gary Bunn on August 12, 1993 in Marengo. She was employed as a nurse at Marshalltown Intensive Care, the Marengo Hospital, and the Marengo Medical Clinic for a time. Lucy was a member of the Marengo Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed painting, playing Pepper and collecting lighthouses. She loved nature and the outdoors.

Rosemary Ebel, age 76, of Williamsburg, died Sunday, February 25, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 28, 2007, St. Mary’s Hall, Williamsburg, with Father Joseph Roost officiating. Inurnment will be at later date. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hall in Williamsburg. Memorials may be contributed to Iowa City Hospice in her name. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Lavern; a son Wayne R. Ebel and companion Debbie Brecht of Williamsburg; a daughter, Karen L. Goodell of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Candice Goodell and fiancé Michael Kennedy of Williamsburg, and Morgan Ebel of Kalona; and a step-granddaughter, Brittany Armstrong of Cedar Rapids. In addition she is survived by a brother Roger Herring and wife Sharon of Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Teresa Schwarting and a brother in infancy.
Rosemary Herring was born December 26, 1930 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Alexander William Herring and Minnie Louise Conklin Herring. She received her education in the West Liberty schools and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1949. Rosemary was united in marriage to Lavern Ebel on September 7, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. The couple farmed for many years. Besides being a homemaker, Rosemary was employed by Service Master, Colony Haus Motor Inn, and McDonald's. She enjoyed gardening, baking and canning, needlework, woodworking and playing cards.

Wilhelmine “Minnie” Werner, age 87, formerly of Williamsburg, Iowa, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at Colonial Manor of Amana following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 28, 2007, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg with Rev. Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be contributed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, Lakeview Village Staff Fund, Amana or Colonial Manor Staff Fund, Amana. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Kay Koester and husband John Koester III of Williamsburg; three granddaughters, Donna Patience and husband Donn of Cedar Rapids, Ruth KoesterCraig and husband Mike of Ankeny, and Julie Carrico and husband Jason of Williamsburg; six great grandchildren, Andrew and Bradley Patience, Susan and Nicholas KoesterCraig, and Katie and Laura Carrico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl in 1979, three brothers, Edwin Newkirk, Otto Newkirk and Arthur Newkirk and two sisters, Martha (Mrs. Louis) Iburg and Frieda (Mrs. Lothar) Huedepohl.
Wilhelmine Anna Rosine Newkirk was born January 26, 1920 in York Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Christian C. and Wilhelmine Ristedt Newkirk. She received her education at St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1938. She married Carl Gustav Werner on March 26, 1939 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Over the years, Minnie worked at Mereks Café as a waitress, H.F. Witte Department Store as a sales clerk, and the Woodman Accident Insurance Company in Williamsburg. She then was employed by Amana Refrigeration and the Amana Woolen Mills, and for 26 years she worked at the Owens Brush Company in Iowa City as a mold machine operator, retiring in 1984. Following retirement, Minnie did seasonal work for Holden Foundation Seeds. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, bingo and bowling. Minnie was the oldest lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg.

Irene L. Frimml, age 85, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 5, 2007, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Perpetual Care Fund for Calvary Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence; a son, Gerald (Mary) of Atkinson, IL; two daughters, Janet Mohead (Ernie) of Vicksburg, MS and Linda Steele (Leonard) of North English; five grandchildren Lisa Gildehaus (Allen) of Ames, Laura Hansen (Kris) of Redmond, WA, Sara Frimml of Bettendorf, Clancy Steele (Amy) of Huntsville, AL, and Cheyan Steele (Heather) of Hiawatha, and three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Eric Gildehaus and Maverick Steele. In addition she is survived by brothers, Leroy Ballard (Mildred) and Richard (Carol) Ballard and a sister, Helen Plotz (Parlyn) all of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Estelle Kensler, and four brothers, Harry, Edmond, Robert and James Ballard, Jr.
Irene Lillian Ballard was born July 9, 1921 in Troy Township of Iowa County, near Williamsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of James Adrian Ballard and J. Esther Whitfield Ballard. She received her education in the Iowa County schools and married Lawrence F. Frimml on October 10, 1939 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watkins. Besides being a homemaker, Irene assisted her husband on the farm. She also worked at the Ox Yoke Inn in the 1970’s. Irene enjoyed embroidering, collecting recipes, shopping, flowers, cooking for her family, especially baking pies, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Irene was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Charles Doyle Coulson, age 55, died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 26, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Pastor Jeff Tackaberry officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg with military honors. Friends may call from 6 to 9 P.M. Monday, June 25, 2007 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his wife Peggy; his children, Melissa Algrim and husband Dustin of Olathe, KS, and Tim Coulson of Marengo; his siblings, Sharon Parody of Ft. Meyer, FL, Sheryl Watkins (Harlan) of Latimer, IA and Dave Coulson of Biloxi, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Charles Doyle Coulson was born August 26, 1951 in Davenport, Iowa the son of Clell David and Pauline Cole Coulson. He received his education in the Williamsburg schools and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Charles married “Peggy” Martha Bohrn on September 20, 1975 at the Methodist Church in Williamsburg. He worked as a hair stylist following completion of barber college. He then was employed for 16 years at Williamsburg Manufacturing as a certified welder, painter and also was a supervisor. Charles worked at Pick Wick Manufacturing as a painter for 4 ½ years and then Kinze Manufacturing on large assembly for 2 years. He continued to work part-time during the 1 ½ years of chemo therapy until he resigned in October of 2006.
Charles enjoyed collecting trains and airplane models, guns, old ceramics and antiques. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed baseball, camping, flea markets and the vacations to Florida.

Neff J. Ritchie, age 93, formerly of Ladora, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 26, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Ladora Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, May 25, 2007 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by a son, Carroll Ritchie and wife Bonnie of Marion; a daughter, Marvelyn Wendel and husband Jim of Amana; six grandchildren, Denise Martin of Cedar Rapids, Lonny Witte and wife Sherry of Lisbon, Kevin Witte and wife Deb of Cedar Rapids, Scott Witte and wife Val of South Amana, Craig Ritchie of Marion and Christine Ritchie of Cedar Rapids; seven great-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and one step- great-great grandchild. Also surviving is a sister, Wilda Rotter of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, three sisters, Virginia Benge, Ruth Rotter, and Cathleen Sanchez, and three brothers, Charles, Freeman and Frederick, and a great-granddaughter, Jamie Waddilove.
Neff John Ritchie was born March 3, 1914 in Singers Glen, Virginia, the son of Fredrick and Flora Kline Ritchie. He attended country schools in Benton, Tama and Iowa County. Neff married Dorothy M. Lutz on May 9, 1934 at the Methodist Parsonage in Ladora, Iowa. Besides farming, Neff drove a milk truck, drove school bus and ran a chainsaw and lawnmower repair shop. Neff and Dorothy loved to travel. They had visited 46 of our 50 states. He was a member of the Ladora United Methodist Church.

Alice Stattler, age 88, of Conrad, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, Iowa while in the care of Amenity Hospice. She had been a resident of Oakview since February 5 th and had been in declining health for several months. Funeral Services: 10:30A.M. Friday, May 11, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Iowa County Hospice or Oakview Garden Project 511 E. Center St., Conrad, IA 50621, or Amenity Hospice, 211 1 st Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401
She is survived by her brother George Bean, Jr. (Eunice) rural Marengo, IA; son Gary (Mary) of Conrad; grandson David (Azucenna) of San Francisco, CA, ;three nephews; Larry Bean (Margo) of Casper, WY, Leslie Bean (Susan) of Williamsburg, IA, Don Bean (Tanya) of rural Marengo, IA; 7 great-nephews, 5 great nieces, and 8 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin and Steven, her husband, her parents and one nephew.
Alice Margaret Bean was born on April 11, 1919 to George Benjamin Lovell Bean and Anna F. Janssen Bean in rural Sumner Township, Iowa County, Iowa. She spent her early years in and around Sumner and Pilot townships and married Russell E. Stattler on October 6 th, 1939 at the Ohio Methodist Church of rural Ladora. To that union were born three sons, Gary, Edwin, and Steven.
She and her husband farmed in the Ladora area after having moved from rural Williamsburg where he had been a hired hand. When his health began to fail they quit farming, moved to Ladora and went into the house painting business, which she continued after his death on August 19, 1960.
In 1962 Alice moved to Bethany, Kentucky where she supervised the farming operation at the Bethany Children’s Home and served as principal driver for Marjorie Burt, the home’s founder. They attended many camp meetings throughout the eastern United States and made a tour of the western states and Canada to visit Miss Burt’s brother on Prince Edward Island.
In 1964 she left Kentucky and moved to Wisconsin where she served as a cook in a resort near Bolder Junction and later as the cook in a hospital at Phelps. She then moved to Milwaukee where she worked as a die maker in a short run metal stamping factory. When her father suffered a stroke, she returned to Williamsburg to help care for him. During this period she was the night cashier at the Landmark Filling Station. She continued to live in Williamsburg until February 2003 when she moved into the Senior Citizen Apartments in Conrad to be closer to her son and his wife.

Darwin Loren Huedepohl, age 72 of Victor, formerly of Marengo, died Monday, April 30, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 4, 2007 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. David MacKain and Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Marengo American Legion Post #76. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Victor; his daughter, Colleen Conrad and husband Michael of Marengo and a sister, Jasiel Timm of Victor. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Phyllis in 1999, a brother Clark and a sister, Phyllis Fiebelkorn.
Darwin Loren Huedepohl was born July 9, 1934 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Fremont and Irene Zimmerman Huedepohl. He attended the St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Hilton Consolidated High School, Conroy in 1952. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957. Darwin married Phyllis Gerner on April 15, 1961 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She died in 1999. He married Sharon Schmidt on January 5, 2001 at St. James Lutheran Church in Victor. He farmed in Iowa County for many years. Besides farming, in earlier years, Darwin had also worked as a meat cutter for Roehrkasse Meats and the Marengo Locker.
Darwin served on the board of the Iowa County Cattlemen Association, the ASCS Board, the REIC Board and the Iowa County Fair Board. Most recently he had been employed part-time with Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Darwin enjoyed his family and friends and his farming career.
