Berniece L. Mohr, age 81, of Marengo, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral Services: 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at New Covenant Parish/ United Methodist Church, 306 Washington St., Victor, Iowa with Rev. James Davis officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Ladora First Responders.
Berniece is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ronald; a son Barry and wife Marna of Ladora, a daughter Sally Cronbaugh and husband Rodney J. of Belle Plaine; five grandchildren, Scott (Tina) Cronbaugh, Molly (Tim) Weesner, Emily (Noah) Schmelzer, Alan (Sara) Mohr, Stacy (Chris) Montross; and four great grandchildren, Ellie Weesner, Cecilia Weesner, Tyson Mohr, and Easton Mohr. Also surviving are a brother Fred Madison (Regina) of Eagle Grove, and four sisters, Margaret Risdon of Marengo, Marian Freeman of Plattsburg, MO, Joann Gillespie of Chatfield, MN and Donna Rae Cranston of Grundy Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jim Madison and a sister Arleen Danskin.
Berniece Lucille Madison was born April 30, 1930 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Lucille Farmer Madison. She attended the Iowa County and Marengo schools and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1948. Berniece married Ronald Mohr on September 7, 1952 in Marengo. The couple farmed for many years. Berniece also was employed at Amana Refrigeration and Koehn Motors in Victor. She was a member of the Ohio Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and served as treasurer for the church.

Vernon Dale Reihmann, age 79 of Amana, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Lakeview Village in Amana. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 23, 2011, Middle Amana Community Church with Elder Peter Hoehnle officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Joyce; a son Timothy and wife Anita of Marengo and a daughter Debra Balhorn and husband John of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Tyler Reihmann and wife Sarah of Clive, Katie Reihmann of Fort Scott, KS and Chase Reihmann and wife Anna of Cape Coral, FL. Also surviving is his brother Jimmy Reihmann and wife Judy of High Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Vernon Dale Reihmann was born March 12, 1932 in Middle Amana, Iowa, the son of Herman and Anna Seifert Reihmann. He graduated from Amana High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Japan and Korea. Vernon was united in marriage to Joyce Annalea Klaner on April 16, 1955 at the Middle Amana Church in Middle Amana. He was employed by the Amana Farms and also worked for Amana Refrigeration for over 30 years.
Vernon was a lifelong resident of Middle Amana, a member of the Amana Church Society, and the American Legion Post 298 in Marion. He enjoyed woodworking and making handcrafted wooden games. He liked fishing and turtle hunting, picking up walnuts and hickory nuts and finding those elusive mushrooms. Vernon spent many hours canning, gardening and cooking. He especially cherished the time he spent with his three grandchildren.

Jonathan C. “Cory” Ward, age 47 of Tipton, formerly of Marengo, died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 21, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, Marengo, with Rev. Paul Frederickson and Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Jonathan Courtney Ward was born June 21, 1964 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Orrin and Marilyn Watts Ward. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School with the Class of 1983. Cory served in the U.S. Army Reserves and obtained his LPN nursing degree at Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, WA. Cory was united in marriage to Rhonda Smith, and to this union his daughter Alexis was born. The couple divorced. He then married Kelly Mayfield and a son Jerry and a daughter Stephanie were born. The couple later divorced.
Cory worked at the Belle Plaine and Tipton nursing homes and also did respite care. Most recently he was a mail handler and letter carrier in Iowa City and then Tipton. Cory was one of those who never met a stranger, would give the shirt off his back to those in need, and no matter what time of day or night, no matter what you needed, he would be there to help.
Survivors include his son, Jerry Ward and fiancee’ Jess of Iowa City; two daughters, Alexis Wagner and husband Jason of Tipton, and Stephanie Ward of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Kaden and Madi Wagner; his parents, Orrin and Marilyn Watts Ward of Cedar Rapids, and a brother Chris Ward and wife Dawn of Fulton IL. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Mabel Ward and Harold and Gale Watts.

Pamela Mary Morton, age 55 of Marengo, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 18, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Randolph McHone officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the church. Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 19 at High Gate Cemetery, St. James, MO. Memorials may be contributed to the ALS Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, IA is in charge of arrangements.
Pamela is survived by her husband Rev. Douglas Morton; sons, Jeffery Steelman (Ida) of Belton, MO, and Aaron Morton of Marengo; daughters, Rebecca Klinge (Bradley) of Columbus, IN, Melinda Flick (Seth) of Riverside, CA, and Rachel Denny (Christopher) of Walker, IA; 11 grandchildren, Grace, Madalynn, Alyssa and Savannah Steelman, Olivia and Laina Klinge, Noah, Micah and Elijah Flick, and Isiah and Izabella Denny; her mother Reva Winkle of St. James, MO; a brother Byron Bauer (Jessica) of Osage Beach, MO; and a sister Sharon Sisson (Vaughn) of Cuba, MO. She was preceded in death by her father.
Pamela Mary Hance was born May 26, 1956 in Rolla, Missouri, the daughter of Roy Hance and Reva Bock. She attended St. James High School, then attended Rolla Vocational Technical School receiving her LPN degree. She continued her education at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, receiving her RN degree. Pam worked at various hospitals and nursing homes, and most recently was the Associate Director of Patient Care at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. She married Rev. Douglas Morton on July 5, 1980 at St. James, MO. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo and the Ladies Aide. Pam was devoted to her children, grandchildren and Jesus.

Lorena K. Jacobs, age 89, of Marengo, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 8, 2012, First Lutheran Church, Conroy with Pastor Don Dovre officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to First Lutheran Church, Conroy.
Lorena is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Stursa (Jim) of Owatonna, MN; her son, Jim Jacobs of Conroy; sisters, Ethel Baker (Ray) of Cedar Rapids, and Norma Silhanek (Richard) of Keystone; sisters-in-law Helen Folkmann of Keystone and Betty Jacobs of Iowa City; two granddaughters, Jamie Tech (John) of Owatonna, MN, and Kelli Sackett (Greg) also of Owatonna; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene in 2004, a brother Herbert Folkmann, a sister Dorthea Boog, sisters-in-law Caryl Haack and Ruth Underberg and a brother-in-law Dean Jacobs.
Lorena Katherine was born July 18, 1922 near Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph T. Folkmann and Anna H. Witte Folkmann. She moved with her family to Keystone in 1936, was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Keystone and graduated from Keystone High School in 1940. Lorena was united in marriage to Eugene A. Jacobs on February 14, 1950 at St. John’s in Keystone. She was a homemaker, 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher and active in WELCA at First Lutheran Church in Conroy. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, and dancing. She liked spending winters in Arizona and cherished her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Emaline Louise (Bryson) Ruff, age 74 of Middle Amana, died Friday, January 27, 2012 at Mercy Hallmar in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, Iowa, with Elder Eleanor Hoehnle officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Middle Amana Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Emaline is survived by her husband, Henry Ruff; her children, Deborah Vande Voort (John) of Shawnee, KS, Dianne Schlesselman (Robert) of Williamsburg, Douglas Bryson (Angelika) of Middle Amana, Jamie Bryson (Susie) of Middle Amana and Ida Bryson of Iowa City; a stepson, Eric Ruff (Sherry) of Redding, CA; eight grandchildren, James Schlesselman (Stefani), Erica Vande Voort, Erin Nichols (Austin), Carissa Bryson, Reese Bryson, Renata Bryson, Gina Bryson, and Levi Bryson; a step-grandson, Austin Ruff; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Schlesselman and Samantha Schlesselman. Also surviving are her sister, Norine Magee (Larry) of Middle Amana, with daughter Melissa Mills, and son Greg Mills; Emaline's brother, Dennis Dietrich of Iowa City; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson of Belle Plaine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lina (Geyer) Dietrich, and her first husband Jim Bryson.
Emaline Louise Dietrich was born May 29, 1937 in Middle Amana, the daughter of Raymond and Lina Geyer Dietrich. She received her education in the Amana Schools. Emaline worked as a clerk for the Amana Society retail stores for many years. She married Jim Bryson on October 3, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. He passed away in 1981. Emaline married Henry Ruff on November 4, 1983 in South Amana. She was a member of the Amana Church and was a lifelong resident of the Amana Colonies.
Emaline loved order-- absolute order-- in everything. This suited her military-oriented husband perfectly. Everything was always in its place, and she knew exactly where that place was, even from her hospital bed when her help was needed in finding something. She took great pleasure in decorating her home, discreetly, tastefully, observing the seasons, holidays and special occasions. This and many other memories will make Emaline sorely missed.

Dennis Van Tomme, age 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, January 27, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 30, 2012, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, IA with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 12:00 noon until service time Monday, January 30, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
Friends are also invited to “Celebrate Dennis’ Life” at Just Jules, 835 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA, on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M.
Dennis is survived by five daughters, Kelli Kelchen (John) of Marion, Heather Burkart (Terry) of West Des Moines, Rachel Van Tomme (Ed) of Cedar Rapids, Nicole Wagner (Jim) of Cedar Rapids, and Tiffany Van Tomme of Cedar Rapids; a son Dennis Kramer of Kentucky; six grandchildren, Justin, Wyatt and Reagan Burt and Caleb, Abbe and Ellie Wagner; his mother Mervin Rachel Van Tomme of Brooklyn, and a sister Colette Pfetzing of Sacramento, CA. He was preceded in death by his father Rene Van Tomme.
Dennis Van Tomme was born June 26, 1942 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Rene and Mervin Rachel West Van Tomme. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1960 and attended the University of Iowa for 3 years, studying Aeronautical Engineering. Dennis was an entrepreneur. He pursued a successful career in investment sales and small business ownership. He sold kitchenware for many years and was top salesman for many of those years. His proudest moments were feeding the homeless on Thanksgiving at his restaurant Denny’s Green Square. He operated several restaurants over the years, including The Flamingo, The King Tutt Lounge, Denny’s Green Square and The Flame Room. He was a member of SaPaDaPaSo. Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, gardening and playing euchre. But he especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Evelyn J. Misel, age 84 of Chelsea, formerly of Marengo, died Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Visitation: 3 to 7 P.M. Monday, January 23, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Private Family Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Marengo Memorial Hospital.
Evelyn is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Hrabak (Ron Hrabak) of Chelsea, Connie Keating and husband D.J. of Fairfax, and Rita Hobbs and husband Tracy of Cape Fair, MO; three grandchildren, Kira Doyle, Kyle Hrabak and Marissa Hobbs; and four great-grandchildren, Brandon and Mahala Doyle, Taylor Hrabak and Emmarie Lyons. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, including a special nephew whom she loved and cared for like a son, Ronald Rumple of Wilmington, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl in 2004, a brother Dean Rumple, and a grandson Thaddeus Logan Griess.
Evelyn Joye Rumple was born July 12, 1927 in Wayne County, Iowa, the daughter of Lawren and Clarice Stoner Rumple. She attended country schools and graduated from Ladora High School in 1945. Evelyn married Earl L. Misel on September 18, 1947 at the Ladora Methodist Parsonage. The couple farmed their entire married life in Iowa County. Evelyn was a member of the Ladora Methodist Church.
Evelyn enjoyed music and played guitar and accordion at the senior centers and nursing homes. She crocheted afghans and gave them to family members and charities. Most of all, Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and her beloved cat Lovey.

Jean V. Henry, age 89 of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Grinnell Regional Hospital. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 14, 2012, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, January 13, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Inurnment will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Grace United Methodist Church or the Grinnell Regional Hospice.
Jean is survived by her children, Jane Cline and husband George of Brooklyn, and Steven Henry (Shelley) of Gilman, Iowa; four grandchildren, Greg and Seth Cline of Brooklyn, Eric Henry of Marengo and Brittany Henry of Cedar Rapids; four great-grandchildren, McKinnah Mitchell, and Dylan, Bryce and Ryan Henry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul in 1993, three brothers, Delbert, Kenneth, and Wayne, and a sister Frances.
Jean Viola Smith was born July 31, 1922 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of James and Susan Goff Smith. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1941 and continued with her education to receive her teaching certificate. Jean was united in marriage to Paul William Henry on June 27, 1946. The couple farmed near Guernsey and moved to Brooklyn in 1964. Jean taught school in the Poweshiek country schools and assisted her husband on the farm. Later she was employed as a cook at the BGM schools and was self-employed as a cake decorator and candy and cookie maker. She also was a receptionist at Reida Insurance in Brooklyn for a few years. She enjoyed children and she ran a daycare in her home for awhile.
Jean was a member of the South Side Circle, the Pythian Sisters, the Grace United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She volunteered at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center and the Grinnell Regional Hospice. Jean cooked breakfast for the Kiwanis Club for several years and handed out samples at local retail stores. Jean loved spending her time in the kitchen and with her family. She especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of her grandchildren.
