Bonnie J. Hertel, age 70 of Middle Amana, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 28, 2015, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Tony Berger officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the church. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Heritage Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
She is survived by her husband Stan; a brother Larry (Wilma) Rettig of South Amana; and a sister Rosemary (David) Houser of Moatsville, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Bonnie Jean Rettig was born June 1, 1945 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Lina Leonhardt Rettig. She received her education in the Amana schools and graduated from Amana High School. Bonnie and Stan Hertel were married June 18, 1966 at the Amana Church. Bonnie continued her education at Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, and then went on to the University of Minnesota, receiving her bachelor degree in home economics. She worked for the Department of Human Services in Louisville and Frankfort, KY. The couple returned to Amana fifteen years ago, following their retirements. Bonnie was an outstanding seamstress and a wonderful cook. She especially loved to shop. She was fond of animals, especially cats.

Joan Heyesen, age 78 of Marengo, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Marengo Memorial Hospital. Visitation: 10 to 1 P.M., Wednesday, September 23, 2015., at the American Legion Hall, Marengo, Iowa. Graveside Services: 2:00 P.M Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Yankee Point Cemetery, Parnell, Iowa.
She is survived by two sons; Randy Ritchie of Ladora and Terry Ritchie of Marengo, eight grandchildren; Robert Ritchie of Cedar Rapids, Roger Ritchie (Brook) of Williamsburg, Tami VonAhsen (Kevin) Groves, Sara Whitler (Kenny) of Marengo, Ricky Ritchie (Jennie) of Cedar Rapids, Ryan Ritchie (Jessica) of Marion, Kevin Ritchie (Kyla) of Marengo, and Tricia Wetjen (Ashley) of Marengo;17 grandchildren, Kay, William, Sabrina, Shana, Shea, Hannah, Elaina, Rashelle, Kendalynn, Pipa, Piper, Makale, Pitabell, Autumn, Ailea, Eleri and Porter; and one great-great-grandchild, Braelyn Barton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Herman and Donald.
Joan Elaine Woodward was born October 13, 1936, in rural Parnell, Iowa, the daughter of Lyle and Leora Claypool Woodward. She received her education in the Marengo Schools and graduated from Iowa Valley High School. Joan was employed by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for several years and retired from there.

James K. Dye, age 81, of Marengo, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, Iowa, with Rev. Anni Mingin officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Kloster Funeral Home Marengo, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, Iowa.
James is survived by his wife Betty; a son David (Diana) of Newhall; five grandchildren, Adam Dye, Nick Dye, Holly Ethier (Eric), Emily Dye, and Travis Schulte; a great-grandchild, Ryleigh Jo Ethier; and a brother William of Lineville, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Danny, a sister Connie Rae in infancy and a brother Ronald.
James was born May 3, 1934 in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Rachael Royal Dye. He received his education in the Iowa County Schools and graduated from Marengo High School in 1952. Jim married Betty Jean Bell on July 26, 1953, and the couple made their homes in Norway and Marengo, Iowa. He was a technician at Rockwell Collins for 39 years. Jim loved spending time with his family and friends and we will miss him.

Ivan W. Reihmann, age 83 of Middle Amana, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his home. Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 22, 2015, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Mike Shoup officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Middle Amana Church and also after 12:30 until service time on Tuesday, September 22. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society or Essence of Life Hospice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ivan is survived by his wife Darlene, children, Bob (Mary Lou) and Ronald of Denver, CO; Randy (Jeanne) of Middle, and Denise Reihmann Brown (Brian) of Robins, IA; and eight grandchildren, William Reihmann, Karlton Reihmann, Kurt Reihmann (Ann), April Brown Nelson (Nick), Anna Reihmann, Caitlin Brown, Alexa Aronow, and Brooke Aronow. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Henrietta Dickel Reihmann and a sister Elaine in infancy.
Ivan William Reihmann was born June 24, 1932 in Middle Amana, Iowa, the son of William and Henrietta Dickel Reihmann. He attended the Amana schools and graduated from Amana High School in 1950. He continued his education at Iowa State College receiving a bachelor degree in Farm Operations and Agricultural Economics. Ivan married Darlene Blasi at the Mennonite Country Church, Pulaski, Iowa on July 17, 1954. Ivan served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 -57, stationed in Texas, California, and Georgia. Upon his return to Iowa, Ivan worked for the Amana Society doing general farm work and as a farm manager trainee. He was employed for a year with the USDA Conservation Service, moving on to Amana Refrigeration, and Merchants National Bank in Cedar Rapids as a farm management officer. In 1979 Ivan worked with Cedar Valley Farm Business Associates, Swisher, in recordkeeping and tax consulting. In 1981 he joined Principal Financial Group, Des Moines.
Ivan was a member of the Amana Society Board of Directors, the Finance and Compensation Committee, Heritage Agency on Aging, Iowa County Veterans Commission, American and Iowa Society of Farm Managers, Iowa County Selective Service Board, Treasurer of the Amana Community Chest, Cloud Nine Flying Club and the Amana Young Men’s Bureau, and a member of Amana Sangerbund (Men’s chorus). He was an elder and trustee of the Amana Church, director of Meals on Wheels, and worked with many other community services. He was also a member of the Marengo American Legion Post 76.
He enjoyed mowing his lawn, maintaining Reinhardt Park, and the Amana bike trail. He also enjoyed all things relating to aviation, as well as singing. He liked Amana history translation, conducting digestor tours and constantly checking the weather.

Judith Ann Stonebraker, age 71 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Friday, September 18, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, Iowa, with Rev. Brent de Silva officiating. Visitation will Monday, September 21, 2015 from 4 to 6 p.m., at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa. Burial will in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be contributed to the BGM Citizens Scholarship Fund or Grace United Methodist Church.
Judy is survived by her husband Ron, two sons; Chad (Kayce) of Ely, Ryan (Melinda) of Tipton, five grandchildren; Avrie, Zoie, Kenedie, Zoe and Lea, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Judy was born December 3, 1943, in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Fannie Leach Vollbracht. She graduated from Quincy High School in 1962 and attended Gem City Business College. She married Ronald Stonebraker August 20, 1966, at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Quincy, IL. Judy was a secretary by profession, where she worked at a real-estate office and for Taylor Insurance. She then became a homemaker and wrote for the Brooklyn Chronicle, Grinnell Herald Register and also sold Avon. She was a cub scout leader, a member of the Kiwanis, Grace United Methodist Church, UMW Circle Bible Study, Order of Eastern Star and Emanon. Judy did volunteer work for Capital Resources and numerous church and community activities. Judy enjoyed playing and watching baseball, knitting, quilting, crocheting, and crafting. She especially enjoyed making cookies with her grandchildren, spending time with the dogs, and loved the family get-togethers.

Mark A. Peska, age 48 of Marengo, died Tuesday, September 15, 2015, following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 21, 2015, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial: Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with a Rosary recited at 7 P.M. A general memorial fund has been established.
Mark is survived by his wife Marina Peska of Moscow, Russia; his son Marcus (Britani) of Cabot, AR, a granddaughter, Isabella Davies of Cabot; his mother Cynthia Peska of Marengo, a brother Mike (Robin) of Marengo, 13 nieces and nephews, and his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Dawn Erger Peska of Cedar Rapids.
Mark was preceded in death by his father Delbert, two daughters, Jillian and Justine, and two nephews, Christopher and Jared.
Mark Albert Peska was born October 7, 1966 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Delbert and Cynthia Albert Peska. He attended the Iowa Valley of Marengo schools and later received his GED from Kirkwood.
Mark was owner and operator of Peska Salvage, Marengo. He spent most of his time working on cars whether it be business or pleasure. He frequented swap meets and flea markets. He collected die cast cars and enjoyed constructing model cars. He enjoyed helping Mike and family with the demo derby cars. He especially liked to spend his free time exploring Iowa with his family. Mark had a sentimental side, a giving heart, and was always surprising someone with a memento from one of his excursions. He always has his family and friends in his thoughts.

Keith W. Young, age 80, of Marengo, Iowa, died Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Rose Haven Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 17, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev.Anni Mingin and Rev. Diane Vohries officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by a daughter Vicki (Don) Schafbuch of Marengo; two sons, Douglas (Andrea) Young, and Dennis (LeeAnn) Young, both of Platteville, CO; eight grandchildren, Travis (Allison) Schlabach, Shannon (Luke) Slockett, Tiffany (Jeff) Simonsen, Chad (Lindsey) Young, Brianne (Shaun) Roberts, Lindsay (Jake) Niebes, Brandon (Katie) Young, and Amanda Young; twelve great-grandchildren, Ashlea and Austin Schlabach, Brynlee and Bryar Slockett, Livia, Levi, and Myla Roberts, Jack and Hallie Niebes and Jordan, Jaylynn, and Madison Young. He is also survived by three sisters; Cleo Tuttle of Marengo, Carole (Richard) Ballard of Marengo, and Sherri (Virgil) Head of Story City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janice K. Young on July 23, 2015, a son Vance in 1984, a grandson Darin Schlabach in 1980, and a brother Garth in infancy.
Keith William Young was born December 6, 1934 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Leo and Norma Patterson Young. He received his education in the Conroy Elementary and Marengo schools. Keith married Janice Kay Hartz on December 31, 1952 in Cedar Rapids. He was employed at Amana Refrigeration, Parks Construction, and the Marengo Ready Mix for 21 years. He then started his own business, Keith Young and Sons Construction, which he later expanded to include Linn County Ready Mix, Johnson County Ready Mix and Iowa County Ready Mix. Keith was also a lifelong farmer, and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Marengo. Keith and Jan enjoyed wintering in McAllen, Texas.
He was a loving husband, father and grandpa and will be missed by all.

Donald Eugene "Starky" Starkweather age 85, of Marengo, Iowa, died, Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Rose Haven Nursing Home. Graveside Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.M. Friday, September 18, 2015 at Bishop Cemetery, rural Marengo with Rev. Anni Mingin officiating. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established.
Donald is survived by four sisters; Violet (Marvin) Anderson, June Schwertfeger, Rose Frondle, and Lovell (Donald) Slaymaker, all of Marengo, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Velma Birch, and Margaret in infancy, and three brothers, Robert, Alfred, and Jerry.
Donald E. Starkweather was born August 10, 1930, in Genoa Bluff, the son of Roy and Nora Stanton Starkweather. He attended the Amana country schools. Donald worked for the City of Marengo for several years. He also did seasonal work for Pioneer, sorting corn. Donald enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, planting numerous trees, harvesting firewood, whittling wood and making crafts. He loved his old time music.

Marilyn E. Brannian, age 66, of Amana, formerly of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 12, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Rev. Brent de Silva officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. The family will receive friends after 10:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Marilyn is survived by cousins, including Laurel Seeley of Huntsville, MO, Roger Brannian (Deb) of Ankeny, and John Brannian (Anita) of Sioux Falls, SD.
She was preceded in death by her father Daryl Brannian in 1970, her mother Valda Connell in 2006, and a dear friend Ed Kline in 2006.
Marilyn Elaine Brannian was born July 21, 1949 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Daryl and Valda Fullerton Brannian. She was raised in the Brooklyn area and graduated from BGM High School with the Class of 1967. Marilyn attended Paris Academy of Beauty in Cedar Rapids, receiving her cosmetology license. She worked for several years in Grinnell fixing hair. She also worked at Brookhaven Nursing Home for 12 years as a nurses aide. She received training as an activity coordinator at DMACC and Kirkwood. While residing at Hillside Estates, Marilyn also took classes through Kirkwood. She had been a member of the Methodist Church in Grinnell. Most recently Marilyn lived at Lakeview Village in Amana, and enjoyed helping out at Colonial Manor, reading and interacting with the residents. She was always intrigued by the medical field and loved reading medical journals.
