Gladys Baldridge

Gladys C. Baldridge, 89, of Burlington, died at 7:25 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at Great River Medical Center, Klein Center.

Born February 24, 1916, in Wilton, IA, she was the daughter of Oscar and Lela Hauck Lamb. She married Earl T. Baldridge on January 4, 1935, in Memphis, MO. He died November 14, 1986.

Mrs. Baldridge was a homemaker and then worked at the Burlington Golf Club for 20 years.

She was a 1934 graduate of Wilton High School. She was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and taking care of her home.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley (Curtis) Coppes of Yarmouth, IA, Judy (Gary) Wagner of Le Claire, IA, and Cathy (Tim) Brown of Burlington; three grandchildren; six great–grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will begin at noon, Wednesday, April 6, at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM Thursday.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Baldridge will be 1:30 PM Thursday, April 7, in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Katherine Lauer

Katherine Louise Lauer, 91, of Danville, died at 6:13 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 22, 1914, in Booneville, Mo., she was the daughter of Jacob and Clara Kiel Schilb. On Sept. 22, 1940, she married Harold Carl Lauer in Columbia, Mo. He died Sept. 22, 1972.

Mrs. Lauer was a homemaker and an Avon representative for 30 years.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in West Burlington. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include three sons, James Lauer of Danville, Jack Lauer of St. Louis and Harold Lauer of Denver; six grandchildren; five great–grandchildren; and one sister, Lucille Johnmeyer of Booneville.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Lauer will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel, with Pastor Dean Moberg officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for St. Paul's United Church of Christ in West Burlington.

Jerry W. Smith

Jerry W. Smith, 73, of Cantril died at 5:10 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Born Dec. 22, 1932, near Cantril, he was the son of Raymond M. and Charlotte Kisling Smith. He married Karol Dillon. They later divorced. On Feb. 23, 1956, he married Maxine Hughes Mairet in Cantril.

Mr. Smith was a farmer and raised livestock until retiring to Cantril in 1999. He also was a weighmaster at Keosauqua Sale Barn for 27 years and was a licensed real estate agent.

He was a graduate of Cantril High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Cantril United Methodist Church and served on various church boards. He was a 50–year mason in Keosauqua Lodge 10. He served on the Van Buren County Board of Review for 17 years and was the Des Moines Township clerk for a number of years. He was a member of Cantril Improvement Association and the former Cantril Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Douglas Smith of Winwick, England, and R.L. Smith of Cantril; three daughters, Judi Davis of Mesa, Ariz., Sherri VanLaningham of Milton and Kathi Huff of Cantril; 15 grandchildren; seven great–grandchildren; his stepfather, George Kyl of Bloomfield; one sister, Joni Maxwell of Mount Pleasant; and one brother, Martin Smith of Minocqua, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family meeting friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Smith will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cantril United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Rekward officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.

Memorials have been established for Cantril United Methodist Church, Maple Grove Cemetery and Cantril Waubonsie Park.

Floyd Fischer

Floyd Fischer, 82, of River Hills Nursing Home in Keokuk died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, at River Hills. Arrangements are pending at Schmitz–Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson.

Helen Stigge

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Helen Marie VanTuyl Stigge, 91, will be held concurrent with a memorial service for her daughter, Marla Stigge Morgan at 1:30 PM, Friday, March 18, in the Chapel of the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Parker officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery . Visitation will begin after noon today at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM Friday. A memorial has been established for Burlington Seventh–Day Adventist Church.

Gail White

Gail M. White, 53, of Burlington died at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at her home.

Born May 12, 1951, in Evergreen Park, Ill., she was the daughter of Malcolm and Mary Schulte Palmer. On July 28, 1973, she married Bill R. White in Oak Lawn, Ill.

Mrs. White was an associate for J.C. Penney's in West Burlington for seven years and was a homemaker.

She was a 1969 graduate of Reavis High School in Burbank, Ill. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Jennifer Weiss of Ogden, Ill., and Lisa White of Lisle, Ill.; one son, Tom White of Burlington; four grandchildren; many brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. White will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Donald Hoornstra officiating.

A memorial has been established for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Eileen M. Moser

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Eileen M. Moser, 84, will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 11, at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Visitation will begin after 8:00 AM, Thursday, March 10, at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6:30 PM after which the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM. Tony Mohler

The Funeral Service for Mr. Anthony Joseph "Tony" Mohler, 96, will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 12, at Concordia Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Roepke officiating. Interment will be on Monday, March 14, in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will begin after noon, Friday, March 11, at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. The Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, Saturday, at the Church.

Laura Gibbs

Laura Robbie Gibbs, 39, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Burlington, died after a nine–month battle with lung cancer at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Born Jan. 8, 1966, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Donald R. and Larita Haffner Gibbs. In September 1987, she married Al Alleman.

Ms. Gibbs was an account executive for two years for Ameritrade Accounts in Omaha.

She was a 1984 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1990 graduate of Southeastern Community College. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She was an animal lover, enjoyed gardening and making home crafts and was an Elvis Presley fan.

Survivors include one son, Tyler Alleman at home; her parents of Burlington; two sisters, Shelly Strawhacker of Burlington and Angela Abbott of Omaha; two brothers, Rusty Gibbs and Randy Gibbs, both of Fort Dodge; nine nieces and nephews; and her significant other, Rick Dyer of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Ms. Gibbs will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with Pastor Maurice Moore officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Sharon Cemetery on County Road J48 in rural Farmington.

A memorial has been established for her son's education.

Gerald Woerdeman

Gerald Woerdeman, 56, of Houghton, died Sunday afternoon, Feb. 27, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospital at Iowa City.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Link Funeral Home at West Point.

Edith Pond

Edith Marie Crow Pond, 85, of Carthage, Ill., formerly of South Holland in Chicago, died at 7:25 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, in the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.

Born Aug. 25, 1916, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Grover and Hilda Johnson Crow. She married Edwin Pond Aug. 12, 1939, in Chicago.

She was a member of the Sutter Salem Bible Church in Sutter, Ill.

Survivors include her husband of the Hancock County Nursing Home; two daughters, Susan Rothert of Basco, Ill., and Carolyn Thompson of Rockwall, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service for Mrs. Pond will be at 1 p.m. today at the Sutter Salem Bible Church in Sutter, with the Rev. Shawn Dejong officiating.

A memorial has been established for the Hancock County Young Life. Contributions may be dropped off or mailed to the Lamporte Funeral Home, 405 Cherry St., Carthage, Ill. 62321.

D. Eugene Shaw

D. Eugene Shaw, 79, of Burlington died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born April 30, 1925, in Barnett, Mo., he was the son of Thomas Alva and Molly Forrest Callison Shaw. On Aug. 28, 1947, he married Shirley C. Becht in Osco, Ill.

Mr. Shaw was a controller for J.I. Case Co. for 37 years, retiring from there in 1983. He then sold real estate at Mosley Real Estate until 1989 when he retired.

He was a graduate of Barnett High School and attended MIC Business College in Moline, Ill., and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater and becoming quarter master while in Japan. He was a past master of Masonic Lodge AF&AM in Milan. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen Neff and Beverly Strickland, both of Burlington; two grandchildren; nine great–grandchildren; and one sister, Yupha Lewis of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Shaw will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Cancer Care Center of Great River Medical Center.
