George Allen Shaw

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. George Allen Shaw, 87, will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 18, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the Celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Full military honors will be rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard, VFW Posts 10102, 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League, and AMVETS Post 29. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . Visitation will begin after noon today at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home until 7:00 PM. There will be no family visitation. A memorial has been established for West Burlington Christian Church Primetime.

Mary Lohman

Mary Ella Lohman, 78, of West Point, died at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to the time of service Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point and again following the service at the American Legion in West Point.

The memorial Mass for Mrs. Lohman will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, with the Rev. Apo Mpanda as celebrant.

Link Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Phillip Roe

Phillip Eugene Roe, 70, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at Galesburg Terrace.

Born March 27, 1934, in Herman, Ill., he was the son of Delwin and Edna Stegall Roe. He married Greta Dunn and they later divorced.

Mr. Roe worked at Abingdon Brass Factory as a grinder for a couple of years and then worked for more than 29 years for OMC, retiring in 1984.

He attended schools in the Abingdon School System. He enjoyed traveling, drag racing and detailed classic cars and car shows.

Survivors include one daughter, Monica Lienhausen of London Mills, Ill.; one son, Michael Roe of Streator, Ill.; five grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Rountree of Monmouth, Ill.; four brothers, his twin, Donald Roe and Gerald Roe, both of London Mills, Walt Roe of Galesburg, Ill., and James "Ed" Roe of Monmouth; caregiver, Mike Burgess of Galesburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be today and Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

The funeral for Mr. Roe will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Adams officiating. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Warren County cancer fund.

Larry Grice

Larry Michael Grice, 58, of Keokuk, died at 6:15 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born Aug. 29, 1945, in Keokuk, he was the son of Charles Richard and Olivia Rosencrans Grice.

Mr. Grice worked at Keokuk Country Club as golf assistant, then owned Southeast Iowa Golf Cart store.

He moved to Keokuk from Florida in 1995. He was a member of Keokuk Elks Lodge No. 106. He loved golf and was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, University of Miami Hurricanes and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Minter of Keokuk; twin sons, Keith Grice and Kevin Grice, both of Florida; four grandchildren; his mother of Keokuk; one brother, Gary Grice of Keokuk; one sister, Becky Overton of Mount Pleasant; three nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his father and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a public Elks memorial service at 6:30 p.m.

A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Sunset Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dale Thomas officiating.

A memorial has been established for Elks Fairview Golf Course.

James Smith

James D. Smith, 61, of Eudora, Miss., died Monday, April 4, 2005, at his home.

Mr. Smith was a retired engineer with the Merchant Marine. He was chief engineer aboard Catfish Bend Riverboat Casino II from 1997 to 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith of Eudora; one daughter, Melessa Smith of Christmas, Fla.; one son, Castle Smith of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one sister, Karen Armstrong of Christmas; and three brothers, Kenneth Smith of Oak Grove, Wash., and Kurt Smith and William Smith, both of Christmas, Fla.

The body has been cremated.

Hernando Funeral Home, 264A Church St., Hernando, Miss. 38632, is in charge of arrangements.

Marian L. Krekel

The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Marian Lucille Krekel, 87, who died Saturday, April 5, 2003, will be Friday, April 11th at 11:00 AM in Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Donald Hoornstra will officiate. There will be no visitation time. A memorial has been established for Messiah Lutheran Church.

Ruth Petersen

The funeral service for Mrs. Ruth Petersen, 88, who died Saturday, April 5, 2003, will be Wednesday, April 9th at 11:00 AM in Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Trevor Davis will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial has been established for Grace United Methodist Church.

Dr. Mary Ann Good

The funeral service for Dr. Mary Ann Good, 51, who died Sunday, April 6, 2003, will be Wednesday, April 9th at 2:00 PM in Asbury United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Purcell will officiate. Interment will be in Carman Cemetery , Carman, IL. Friends may call after 8:00 AM today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Memorials have been established for the Central Lee Education Foundation, Asbury United Methodist Church and the Great River Medical Center's Hospice program.

Elton B. Long

The funeral service for Mr. Elton Blackburn Long, 81, who died Sunday, April 6, 2003, will be Saturday, April 12th at 1:30 PM in First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Dennis Tevis will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8:00 AM on Friday, April 11th in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and First United Methodist Church.

John Bartz

John Bartz, 77, of Keosauqua, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Van Buren Samaritan Center in Keosauqua. Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Spc. John Miller

Spc. John Wayne Miller, 21, of West Burlington died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Ramadi, Iraq.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel.

The funeral for Spc. Miller will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Burlington Memorial Auditorium, with Chaplain Murray Phillips officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison. He will be posthumously promoted to sergeant in a private ceremony Tuesday.

A memorial has been established for the Alpha Company 224th Engineer Battalion Support Group, 2500 Summer St., Burlington, Iowa 52601.

Gladys Schwalbach

Gladys I. Schwalbach, 84, of Muscatine died Friday morning, April 22, 2005, at Muscatine Care Center.

Born Sept. 21, 1920, in Omaha, Neb., she was the daughter of John Clarkson and Nelle Beaumont. She first married Glen H. Krantz. He preceded her in death. She then married Virgil Riegel, who also preceded her in death. She married Max Schwalbach. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Schwalbach worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant and at Thatcher Plastics.

She loved to bowl and visit the riverboats.

Survivors include one son, Clifford Riegel of Muscatine; one daughter, Glenna Stark of Milan, Ill.; two grandchildren; and three great–grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Ralph J. Wittich–Riley–Freers Funeral Home in Muscatine.

The funeral for Mrs. Schwalbach will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ralph J. Wittich–Riley–Freers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Ostrem of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Muscatine Humane Society.

Louis Faber

Louis Faber, 84, of Keokuk, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born July 18, 1920, in Keokuk, he was the son of Louis Joseph and Helen Marie Weeks Faber.

Mr. Faber worked at Sheller Globe in Keokuk for 37 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Liberation of Dachau and in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Keokuk, American Legion Post No. 42 and United Rubber Workers. He looked forward to the annual reunions of the Headquarters Battery 189th Field Artillery Battalion.

Survivors include one nephew, Robert Faber of Keokuk; great–nieces and great–nephews; and great–great–nieces and great–great–nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service Thursday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.

The funeral for Mr. Faber will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Vigen Memorial Home, with the Rev. Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial will military rites will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

Joanne Yager

Joanne Beth Yager, 66, of Nauvoo, Ill., died Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Lamporte Funeral Home in Nauvoo.

Jody Piper

Jody Gayle Piper, 46, of Burlington, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at her home.

Born Aug. 20, 1957, in Bur–lington, she was the daughter of Cecil Edward and Leonora Ottilia Taulman Lee.

Ms. Piper was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Church of the Open Bible. She was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include four daughters, Jennifer Andrews of Oquawka, Ill., Kristin Steingraber of Cedar Rapids, Nina Burrell of Marian and Jessie Burrell of Burlington; one son, Damion Piper of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; her mother of Burlington; four sisters, Riche Rahn of New York, Terry Callahan and Sheri Huntington, both of Burlington, and Deanna Burke of Denmark; several nieces and nephews, many aunts and uncles and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, stepfather and one sister.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Ms. Piper will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel, with Pastor Ken Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established.
