Goldie May Albright
December 14, 1913 - January 10, 2008

-Memorial Funeral Service: Saturday, January 19th, at 1:00 PM in the
Danville Baptist Church.
Pastor Rod Cooper will officiate.
According to Mrs. Albright's wishes, her body has been deeded to science.
Memorials have been established for Danville Care Center and Great River Hospice.

Goldie May Albright, 94, of Danville died at 1:48 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Danville Care Center.

Born December 14, 1913 in Winfield, she was the daughter of William Henry and Alta Pearl Lathrop Eilers. On May 26, 1933 she married Wyatt Cresap Albright in Monmouth, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 14, 1961.

Mrs. Albright was a graduate of Danville High School. She was of the Christian faith.

Mrs. Albright and her husband owned and operated the Conoco Station in Danville for many years; they also owned the Danville Mobile Home Park, and she also worked in the Des Moines County Auditors Office. Mrs. Albright was the first and only female mayor of Danville.

She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, King’s Daughters and several card clubs in Danville and Burlington. She loved traveling, playing cards and family reunions.

Survivors include one sister, Faith (Richard) Cole of New London, several nieces and nephews and one niece who was her special caregiver, Sala Marlin of Burlington.

Her husband, parents and five sisters preceded her in death.

Memorials have been established for Danville Care Center and Great River Hospice.

Stephanie A. Albright
December 21, 1943 - January 31, 2008

-Family will receive friends: Sunday, February 3rd from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM
in Lunning Chapel.
- Funeral Service: Monday, February 4th, at 10:00 AM in Lunning Chapel
The Pastor Maurice Moore will officiate.
-Interment: Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and Hope Haven Area
Development Center.

Stephanie A. Dupy Albright, 64, of Burlington died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born December 21, 1943 in Ottumwa, she was the daughter of Lafayette and Alice Louise Nelson Dupy. On June 28, 1985 she married Bill Albright in Burlington.

Mrs. Albright was a graduate of Ottumwa High School and Indian Hills Community College. She was the bookkeeper and office manager for Dan Carson Insurance for 13 years.

Mrs. Albright was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church. She enjoyed bingo, flowers, quilting and NASCAR.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Albright of Burlington; one step- daughter, Kim (Dennis) Duke of Dodgeville; one step-son, Jeff (Diane) Albright of Danville; one step grandson, Dylan Duke; sister, Marcia (John) Doyle of Roanoke, Texas; niece, Molly Girard of Fort Worth, Texas; and nephew, Sean Doyle of Roanoke, Texas.

Her parents and brother Tim Dupy preceded her in death.

Virginia Eileene Aller
April 24, 1929 ~ April 10, 2008

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Virginia Eileene Aller, 78 of Burlington passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 24, 1929 in Washington County, Iowa, she was the daughter of John Wesley and Myrtle May Young Meyer.

On December 30, 1950 she married Kenneth Aller at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keota, Iowa. He passed away April 22, 1999.

Mrs. Aller graduated from Keota High School and University of Northern Iowa. She taught schools in rural Keota and LaPorte City, Iowa. After her husband’s discharge from the Air Force, they established their home in Burlington where he was a math teacher and coach. Virginia did substitute teaching, worked for 12 years at Sears and 16 years at Grimes Elementary School.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church where she belonged to the St. Teresa’s Circle. She did a lot of volunteering – Phelps House, Port of Burlington Welcome Center and 13 years in the gift shop at Great River Medical Center. She was a member of Burlington Women’s Club where she held numerous offices and was voted Burlington Junior Women’s Club Mother of the Year in 1958. She also served on the Advisory Counsel of Area Agency on Aging.

Her interests were crafts, gardening, bridge and doing things with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her hobby was making and collecting Santas.

Mrs. Aller is survived by five children, Kathryn (Bob) Zurmuehlen, Linda (Cliff) Parrish, Lori (Larry) Staggs, all of Burlington, Karen Aller of Euless, Texas, and Michael (Susan) Aller of Fort Collins, Colorado; ten grandchildren, Kyla (Doug), Matt (Kristin), and Tony Zurmuehlen, Heather (Erik) Smith and Brandon Parrish, Kinsey and Michelle Diewold, Erica Staggs, Justin (Megan) and Scott Aller; six great grandchildren, Cody, Ella, Dalton, Kaitlyn, Travis and Cameron; one sister, Mildred Houseal of Washington; one brother-in-law, Merlin Aller; and several nieces and nephews.

Her smile, kindness, and generosity will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memories of her will be with us always.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Nancy and three brothers.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.

Harold Baker, Jr.

Flint River Township.

Howard Baker Jr., 86, of Sperry died at 9:38 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Great River Medical Center.

Born March 1, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, he was the son of Howard Sr. and Anna Berry Baker. In 1934 Howard moved to Sperry. On June 19, 1948 he married Erma Lucas in Burlington.

Mr. Baker attended Burlington Elementary Schools and was a graduate of Sperry Consolidated High School. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran serving from November 20, 1942 until December 15, 1945. He spent 35 months serving in the South Pacific. He did carpentry work and drove trucks. He worked at Sperry School as the custodian from 1954 until 1977. He then worked at Schrock Lumber Co. for three years before retiring in 1987.

Mr. Baker was a member of St. John’s Church of Flint River Township. He enjoyed playing golf every Thursday with his son-in-law, Warren Loper. He loved carpentry work, building two of his daughter’s homes and his home in Sperry. He was an avid gardener, and loved reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include his wife of over 59 years, Erma Baker of Sperry and three daughters, Barbara (Warren) Loper and Lynne (Rick) Evans both of Sperry and Karen (Curt) Nichols of Mediapolis; three grandsons, Chad and Kyle Evans and Justin Loper all of Sperry; one granddaughter, Melissa Loper of San Antonio, Texas; three step-grandchildren, Kathy (Loper) Franklin Espanto of San Antonio, Beth (Loper) Mike Moehle of Mediapolis, and Mark (Becka) Loper of Richland, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren, Breena, Brian and Brody Espanto of San Antonia, Matthew, Russell Ben and Brooklyn Moehle of Mediapolis, Wyatt and Hollie Loper of Richland; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fred, one sister, Eunice and one nephew, Ed Heitmeier.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. John’s Church of Flint River Township.

Mary Charlotte "Char" McDonald Beeman
April 4, 1922 ~ May 4, 2008

-Interment: Kossuth Cemetery , rural Mediapolis, Iowa
A memorial has been established for the Music Ministry at West Burlington Christian
Church.

Mary Charlotte (McDonald) “Char” Beeman of West Burlington died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Danville Care Center.

Born April 4, 1922 in Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Andrew and Matilda Orr Wilson. On September 30, 1950 she married Delbert W. McDonald. On July 27, 1985 she married Ellis B. Beeman in Monmouth, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2005.

Mrs. Beeman attended Mediapolis Community School until her family moved to Enid Oklahoma, where she graduated from high school in 1940. She attended Minnesota Bible College from 1940-1941, then attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma and graduated in 1946. She also did graduate study at Maryville College in St. Louis, Missouri, Southeastern University of Missouri and Western Illinois University at Macomb, Illinois.

While in St. Louis, she was very active with the Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Beeman was an elementary teacher in the Mediapolis School District for 13 years until she retired in June of 1988.

She was an active member of the Christian Church wherever she lived, and the last 14 years in West Burlington Christian Church and she was especially active in the missions programs. She was a member of Beth Dodge King’s Daughters and Des Moines County Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her daughter Lisa Rivas and grandson Andrew Rivas.

An infant son, infant daughter, her parents, sister Naomi Dotson and husband Ellis Beeman preceded her in death.
