Jordan Boyd

Jordan Daniel Boyd, 23, of West Burlington died at 7:08 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 28, 1983, in Lexington, Neb., he was the son of Merlin "Rocky" Jr. and Barbara D. Shaffer Boyd.

Mr. Boyd was attending Southeastern Community College in West Burlington.

He was a member of the 960th Quartermaster Company Army Reserves in Cedar Rapids. He was an avid sport bike enthusiast, loved sports of all kinds and liked to work on his car and hunt.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Barbara and David Kaminski of West Burlington; his father and stepmother, Merlin "Rocky" Jr. and Pam Boyd of Fort Madison; his fianceé, Stephanie Seager of Fort Madison; eight brothers and sisters, Dustin, Nicholas, Travis, Robert, Tianna, Joseph, Alexis and Susan; and his grandparents, Rusty Boyd and Maxine Boyd, Ken and Mary Keith, James Shea and Lowell and Arla Colclasure.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The celebration of life service for Mr. Boyd will be at 11 a.m. Monday at King–Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Christopher David officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.

A memorial has been established.

Miles Dawson

Miles F. Dawson, 85, of Keo–kuk, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born Sept. 14, 1919, in Croton, he was the son of James Jasper and Blanche Davis Dawson.

Mr. Dawson worked at Shellor–Globe for many years and also worked as a deliveryman for Tallarico Appliances.

He lived in Keokuk most of his life. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He attended church at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 41 of Keokuk and the Masons.

Survivors include one brother, Ernest Dawson of Quincy, Ill.; three sisters, Alberta Robinson and Frances Galbreath, both of Keokuk, and Marline Malcom of Fort Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of service Monday at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk.

The funeral for Mr. Dawson will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Greaves Mortuary, with the Rev. J.T. Brown officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Paul Good

Paul A. Good, 47, of rural Gladstone, Ill., died at 9:39 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Nov. 7, 1956, in LaHarpe, Ill., he was the son of Donald L. and JoAnn Lopp Good. On March 29, 1975, he married Catherine Brown in Aledo, Ill.

Mr. Good practiced dentistry for 18 years at the Henderson County Rural Health Center in Oquawka. In January, 2002, he opened Good Dental Care in rural Biggsville, Ill.

He was a 1975 graduate of Aledo High School, Aledo Ill., a 1979 graduate of Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill. and a 1983 graduate of SIU–E School of Dental Medicine.

He was a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society and a former member of the Young Dentists Committee. He was a former president of the Prairie Valley Dental Society, was active in the formation of and served on the board for the Carl Sandburg School of Dental Hygiene. He was a board member of the Henderson County Health Department and served as Health Care Advisor for the Henderson County branch of the American Cancer Society. He served four years on the Union School District Board Of Education, was a member of the Biggsville Lions Club, Hend–Co Hills Country Club, the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church and was coach of the Biggsville Girls Softball Team for many years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jennifer Benge of Stronghurst and Emily Good, at home; one son, Brian Good of Alton, Ill.; his mother, JoAnn Rice of Mount Clemens, Mich.; two grandchildren; one sister, Patrice Keil of Iowa City; and four brothers, Steven Good of Westchester, Pa., Mark Good and Eric Good, both of Galesburg, and Darrin Good of Rock Island.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church, where the family will receive friends between 5:30 and 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Good will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Union High School, near Biggsville, with the Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. Private burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery near Aledo.

A memorial has been established.

Ralph Jobe

Ralph Everett Jobe, 80, of Keo–kuk, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born Aug. 22, 1924, in Keo–kuk, he was the son of Warry and Daisy Frakes Jobe. On Nov. 1, 1942, he married Mildred "June" Stutes. She died March 24, 1985. In 1986, he married Helen Skinner. She died in September 1995. On Dec. 14, 1996, he married Dorothy Page Windler in Keokuk.

Mr. Jobe worked for Thomas Truck and Caster, Hoerner Box and retired from Morse Chain, all in Keokuk.

He was a World War II Army veteran and served in Italy and Germany. He was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk. He enjoyed hunting, watching TV game shows and tending to his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed renovating homes and doing mechanical and body work on cars. He was talented in poetry and artistic drawing besides being musically inclined. He played the piano, accordion and harmonica.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ronald Jobe and Warren "Butch" Jobe, both of Keokuk, and Max Jobe of Hamilton, Ill.; three daughters, Joy Jobe, Vicki Hendrickson and Connie Jobe, all of Keokuk; one stepdaughter, Melody Riter of Keokuk; several grandchildren and great–grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Jobe of Keokuk and Donald Jobe of Warsaw, Ill.; one sister, Berniece Gabel of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his first two wives, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Jobe will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Vigen Memorial Home, with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Carl W. Burger

The graveside funeral service and interment for Mr. Carl Walter Burger, 70, who died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, will be Friday, April 2nd, at 11:00 AM in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Pastor Charles Stevens will officiate. Friends may call from noon until 5:00 PM today in Lunning Chapel. The family will not be present. A memorial has been established in Carl's memory.

Rosemary A. Oetken

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Rosemary Ann Oetken, 63, who died Monday, April 4, 2005, will be Thursday, April 7th, at 10:30 AM in St. Mary's Catholic Church of Dodgeville. The Rev. Thomas J. Reilman will be the celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Kingston. Friends may call after noon today in Lunning Chapel. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 PM with the Christian Wake Service at 6:00 PM followed by family visitation until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established for Advanced Home Health Care.

Robert H. Cale

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Robert H. Cale, 58, who died Monday, April 4, 2005, are pending at Lunning Chapel.

Jeri L. Yoder

The visitation for Mrs. Jeri Lyn Yoder, 37, who died Monday, April 4, 2005, will be Friday, April 8th, in Lunning Chapel. Friends may call after noon and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established. According to Jeri's wishes, her body will be cremated following the visitation.

Raymond Cortum

Raymond Lloyd Cortum, 78, of Wellman, died following a lingering illness Monday, April 7, 2003, at Washington County Hospital in Washington.

Born May 13, 1924, at Wellman, he was the son of Bernie Glenn and Minnie Frances Hall Cortum. On April 12, 1952, he married Oriet Tesdahl in Albert Lea, Minn.

Mr. Cortum taught vocational agriculture to G.I. classes for a couple years then farmed in the Wellman community until retiring in 1988.

He was a 1942 graduate of Wellman High School and received a degree in agronomy from Iowa State University in 1952. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1942 to 1945. After retiring, he moved to Washington, then in 1998 to Wayland. He was a former member of the Charles Polton American Legion Post and was a member of Richmond AMVETS.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Cortum of Kalona and John Cortum of Mediapolis; six grandchildren; and seven great–grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman.

The funeral for Mr. Cortum will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wellman Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

MARJORIE PRUGH

Funeral Services for Mrs. Marjorie Mary Coulter Prugh, 90, who died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at the home of her daughter in Burlington following an extended illness will be held in Prugh's Chapel Friday, April 22, 2005, at 10:30 A.M. The Reverend Canon Patrick Genereux will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel Thursday evening, April 21, 2005, from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. The service has been delayed so that all of her grandchildren and great–grandchildren may attend the service. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice, The Ertz Group Home at Hope Haven and the Burlington Fine Arts Scholarship Fund.

Leonard Clark

Leonard Jay Clark, 77, of Leoti, Kan., died Friday, April 15, 2005, at Wichita County Medical Center in Leoti.

Born Dec. 7, 1927, in Milan, Mo., he was the son of George Walter and Myrtle Glidewell Clark. On Sept. 27, 1945, he married Marcellee Crow in Kingman, Kan.

Mr. Clark was a former foreman for Santa Fe Railroad, owner and operator of a television repair shop and was maintenance superintendent of Greeley County Schools in Tribune, Kan., retiring in 1990.

He was a resident of Tribune since 1959, moving to Leoti in 2004. He loved his garden and trains.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Twila Nickelson of Leoti; six grandchildren; 18 great–grandchildren; and three sisters, Lorene Fichtenkort and Marjorie Hampton, both of Burlington, and Georgie Spencer of Macon, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti.

The funeral for Mr. Clark will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Leoti, with the Revs. Rick Just and Mark Randolph officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Wichita County Medical Center and Leoti EMTs.

John Garnant

John Kervyn Garnant, 87, of Burlington, died at 9:58 AM, Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born January 14, 1918, in Hancock County, IA he was the son of Ralph J. and Hazel Wanda Bunting Garnant. He married Kathleen R. Brust on August 15, 1942, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Burlington.

Mr. Garnant graduated from Britt High School in 1936. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1937. He came to Burlington in 1941 as a recruiter. In 1944 he was activated for overseas duty in World War II just before the birth of his daughter. John returned home in October 1945 and was reactivated in August 1951 for the Korean conflict and was stationed at the Great Lakes until October 1952.

He worked for the Iowa State employment service for 13 years, Mason–Hanger–Silas Mason Co. for 7 years prior to retiring from Rockwell International North American Space Operations in Palmdale, CA.

He was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, Knights of Columbus #568 and was a past member of other various social and military organizations. He was an avid golfer, St. Louis Rams and Cardinals fan and enjoyed playing and watching basketball.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; one daughter, Judy (Wayne) Johnson of Burlington; six grandchildren, Joni (Mitch) Smith, Kim (Carlos) Capdevila, Jeff (Traci) Johnson, Ricky (Kelly) Johnson, Randy (Paulette) Johnson and Amy (Grant) Bonta; 15 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one great granddaughter, Alejandra Capdevila.

As per his request his body has been cremated.

Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Sunday, April 24, at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6:00 PM after which the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Garnant will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 25, at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, with Rev. Father Gerald E. Stouvenel as the celebrant and Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the concelebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard, VFW Posts 10102, 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton–Walters Marine Corps League, and AMVETS Post 29.

A memorial has been established for St. Vincent DePaul Society and his Church.
