Anna G. Potter

Funeral service for Anna Gertrude Potter was held Saturday morning, June 3, at the United Methodist Church, Buffalo Center. Rev. Lois Abel officiated.

Comfort music was provided by Rosalind Swanson, pianist, and Debby Baillie, soloist. She sang "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and "On Eagle’s Wings." Congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "Old Rugged Cross."

Casket bearers were Randy Brown, Steven Potter, Julius Severson, Doug Potter, Tom Julius, Rick Potter, Ron Ricks, Thomas Potter, Juern Akkermann and Michael Potter.

Honorary casket bearers included Dr. Larry Johanson, Melvin Ricks, Col. Roy B. Johnson and Charles Bronson.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery , Buffalo Center, with Winter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Anna Gertrude Potter was born January 6, 1924, near Titonka to Simon and Henrietta (Wagner) Ricks. She graduated from Titonka High School.

On November 4, 1945, she was married to Tom Potter. Five children were born to this union. She was a member of the Methodist Church and belonged to the circle and the Christian Women. She was also a member of the Neighborhood Birthday Club and the VFW Auxiliary.

Anna enjoyed needlework, gardening and cooking as well as working crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Potter died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

She is survived by her children: Sue and husband Jim Smith of Brownsville, Tex., Roy Potter and wife Karolyn of Little Falls, Minn., Kathy and husband Ken Miller of Holstein, Dennis Potter and his friend Gail Swalve of Thompson, Helen and her husband Juern Akkermann of Woden; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Ricks and his wife Norma of Titonka; one sister, Linda Bronson and husband Charles of Wesley; one sister-in-law, Elaine Ricks of Titonka; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom Potter on February 11, 1999; one brother, Elmer Ricks; and one nephews, Steven Bronson.

Genevieve 'Gib' I. Bargman

Memorial service for Genevieve 'Gib' I. Bargman, 60, of Buffalo Center was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center. She died June 9, 2000, at Muse Norris Hospice inpatient Unit in Mason City. Rev. Lois Abel will officiate. Burial of cremains will be in Olena Mound Cemetery , Buffalo Center.

Genevieve Irene Bargman, the daughter of Ervin and Genevieve (Lawman) Bargman, was born Aug. 6, 1939, at Whittemore.

She worked for many years in a nursing home in Estherville, and later at Burkley's in Spirit Lake and Winnebago Industries in Forest City. She also owned and operated Bargman Family Restaurant for seven years. After selling the Drive-In she went to work at Fleetguard in Lake Mills.

Bargman was a member of the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center and served on the pastor parish committee. She loved sports and coached softball for a time at North Iowa School.

Survivors include her brothers and sisters, Bill Bargman of Buffalo Center, Tubby Beauman and her husband, Lee, of Palmer, Alaska, Paul Bargman and his wife, Marti, of Dike, Terry Blomster and her husband, Larry, of Buffalo Center, and Michael Bargman and his wife, Nena, of Ogden; 19 nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Jenny Bargman, and sisters, Laura Lee Hansen and Susan O'Harra.

Grace Meyering

Last rites for Grace Meyering were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Gerald Dyste officiating. Casket bearers were Joel Price, Justin Meyering, Michael Meyering, Paul Meyering, Jim Korsa, and Eric Doty. Honorary casket bearers were Ellie Rippentrop, Sandy Armstrong, Glenda Kramer, and Sue Armstrong. Burial was held at Olena Mound Cemetery , Buffalo Center.

Grace Meyering, daughter of Everett and Bena (Burma) Wessels, was born March 19, 1914, near Buffalo Center. Her grandparents John and Gretje Wessels immigrated to the United States from Bellingwolde, Holland. Upon the death of her mother, Grace was raised by her grandparents. Her brother, John, and sister, Pearl, were each raised by other relatives.

On Feb. 17, 1937, Grace married Heiko Meyering at the Reformed Church Parsonage in Buffalo Center. To this union seven children were born. Grace spent her years on the farm and when she and Heiko retired in 1972, they moved to Buffalo Center. She was fortunate to be able to lead a very active life. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, fishing and traveling. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Literary Club, Grace Circle and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Grace passed away Thursday March 30, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

She is survived by her seven children, James and Karen Meyering of Woden, Jeriene and Gary Sleper of Titonka, Russell and Thelma Meyering of Woden, Leroy and Ruth Meyering of Bloomington, Minn., Henry and Janet Meyering of Garner, Marsha and Dan Saybolt of Miami, Fla., and Elaine and Dale Price of Lakota; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Pearl Wessels, Mason City; and a half sister, Mae Sheldon of Pequot Lakes, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, John, two half brothers, Everett Jr., and Suite, a half sister, Lena Wessels, a step sister, Paulina Waldo, and two grandchildren, Sandra Sleper and Brandon Price.

Grace Yahnke

Funeral service for Grace Yahnke, 93, of Buffalo Center was held Friday afternoon, November 13, 1998, at First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center.

Officiating clergy was Pastor Gary Bergman.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery , Buffalo Center.

Grace Yahnke, daughter of Harry and Etta (Hippen) Harms, was born January 24, 1905, near Buffalo Center. She married Alfred Yahnke in Minneapolis, Minn., September 25, 1925. She was a cook for several years at Buffalo Center Community School and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Yahnke died November 9, 1998, at Timely Mission Nursing Home.

She is survived by children: Murial and her husband Don Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA.; Ron and his wife Opal of Sherburn, MN.; Harold and his wife Jean of St. Charles, MO.; and Larry and his wife Orean of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, four brothers and two infant grandsons.

Donald W. J. Ostermann

Donald W. J. Ostermann, 68, of Buffalo Center died October 14, 1998, at Timely Mission Nursing Home, Buffalo Center.

His funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, October 17, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Buffalo Center, with Pastor James Cherry officiating.

Private family committal service was held earlier that morning at Olena Mound Cemetery , Buffalo Center, with Winter Funeral Home in charge.

The son of Walter and Emma (Stohr) Ostermann, Donald was born June 15, 1930, in Hancock County. He started his farming venture when he was a sophomore in high school after the death of his dad. Farming and farm-related activities were his life.

He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1948. He married Frances Barkman at Lake Mills August 17, 1952. They farmed south of Buffalo Center where they raised their family until his health became a problem. He served many years on the board of Farmer’s Coop Elevator and was president of the board for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife Frances of Buffalo Center; one daughter, Glenda and her husband Mike Cahalan of Mason City; two sons, Doug and his wife Kim Ostermann and Mark and his wife Kim Ostermann, all of Buffalo Center; eight grandchildren: Tony, Marc, Rob, Lyndsay, Jeff, Dustin, Alison and Taylor; two brothers, Eugene and his wife Shirl Ostermann of Buffalo Center and Wayne and his wife Anna Ostermann of Westminister, Colo; one sister-in-law and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Bradley.

Pauline Wilson

Funeral service for Pauline M. Wilson, 89, of Buffalo Center was held May 12 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Buffalo Center. Father Craig Steimel was the celebrant.

Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery , Whittemore, with Winter Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Mrs. Wilson died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Timely Mission Nursing Home, Buffalo Center.

She is survived by her husband Vincent Wilson of Buffalo Center.

Raemon Wubben

Raemon D. Wubben, 73, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at United Hospital in Blue Earth, Minn.

His funeral service was held the afternoon of April 21 at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. Pastor Bill Peake officiated with comfort music provided by organist Vera Bronleewe. Mary Behrends and Neil Wubben sang "Amazing Grace" and "Old Rugged Cross."

Casket bearers were Doug Aukes, Ron Aukes, Jon Jacobson, Pete Van Gerpen, Rodney Wubben and Bruce Wubben.

Honorary pall bearers included Curt Bashans, Cecil Steffensen, Vernon Jacobson, Carl Badje, Joe Wubben, Fred Hofmann and Sid Wubben.

Burial was in West Cemetery , Rake, with Winter Funeral Home handling arrangements.

The son of John and Anna (Schutjer) Wubben, Raemon was born January 7, 1925. He grew up in the Buffalo Center area.

August 30, 1947, he married Annabel A. Russ in Rake. Together they made their home on a farm near Rake and farmed for many years. Mrs. Wubben died March 11, 1989.

He enjoyed wood carving and following various activities of his grandchildren.

Survivors included three sons, Donald Wubben of Colorado, James Wubben and his wife Sue of Buffalo Center and Leslie Wubben and his wife Jodi also of Buffalo Center; and 10 grandchildren: Jodi, Jenyfer, Jedydiah, Jeremyah, Justynn, Amanda, Melissa, Jessica, Anthony and Jonathan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother; one sister; and two half brothers.

Nellie Fredericks

Nellie Fredericks of Buffalo Center died March 29, 1998, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. She was 93.

Her funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center with Rev Gary Bergman officiating.

Casket bearers were Joseph Larson, Daniel Larson, Joshua King, Patrick Coomes, Matt Coomes and Scott Coomes.

Burial was in Graceland Cemetery , Buffalo Center, with Winter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was born October 21, 1904, in Zearing and was married to Frank Fredericks.

She is survived by one daughter, Lois Hughes of Thompson; one son, Lloyd and his wife Joanne Coomes of Foley, Minn., seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Frank Fredericks on September 27,1965; two infant children: Lillian and Wayne; one grandson, William Coomes; three sisters, Irene Buckley, Inez Teague and Florene Abbott; and three brothers, Merle Abbott, Howard Abbott and Loren Abbot.

Gloriann Brue

Funeral service for Gloriann Tena Brue, 61, was held Saturday afternoon, March 7, at First Baptist Church in Forest City with Rev. George Kalb officiating.

Music was provided by Carol J. Tweeten as organist, a men’s trio consisting of Kirk Jefson, Doug Tweeten and Dick Tweeten; soloist, Tom Kingland; and a duet by Tara Kingland and Tom Kingland.

Casket bearers were Roger Missman, Mick Berg, Phil Carson, Carold Dahl, Irv Wirtjes and Ray Hagen.

Interment was at Madison Township Cemetery , Forest City, with Winter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gloriann Tena Brue, daughter of Herman and Bernice (Isebrands) Tjarks, was born February 4, 1937, on a farm near Titonka. She was baptized and confirmed at Ramsey Reformed Church near Titonka.

She attended country school near Titonka and graduated from Titonka High School. She received a teaching degree from Waldorf College in Forest City and taught elementary school in the Thompson School system for several years.

February 8, 1957, she married LaVerne Brue at Ramsey Reformed Church. Together they farmed near Buffalo Center. She worked for years as a hospice volunteer. In recent years, the Brues enjoyed part of the winter in Arizona.

Mrs. Brue died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at her home.

Gloriann is survived by her husband, LaVerne, of Buffalo Center; four children: David and his wife Barbara Brue of Buffalo Center, Carolyn and her husband Brian Legried of Plymouth, Minn.; Mary Beth and her husband Joe McEuen of Chesterfield, Missouri, and Diane and her husband Brent Matson of Buffalo Center; and 11 grandchildren: Jeremy and Jonathan Brue, Erik and Sarah Legried, Tena and Missy Arnevik, Tra McEuen, Brad, Bryan, Halie and Ben Matson; one great-grandson, Tyler Arnevik; one sister, Shirley, and her husband Jack Meyer of El Paso, Tex.; one brother, Roger, and his wife Linda Tjarks of Titonka; three sisters-in-law: Joan and her husband Dean Sunde of Buffalo Center, Mavis and her husband Delbert Johnson of Thompson and Elaine and her husband Art Hetland of Deering, N. Dak; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Scott Arnevik.
