LeCLAIRE, Iowa -- Services for Donald Lyle Youngers, of LeClaire, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery , LeClaire. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Youngers died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. He was LeClaire post master for more than 20 years. He was a wonderful husband and father who will be missed by his family and many friends. Mr. Youngers was a member of R.L.D.S. Church, Moline. He was very active in his community as a member of the LeClaire Chamber of Commerce, Civic Club and Levee Commission. He was also a member of Masonic Snow Lodge No. 44, Eastern Star Silver Creek Chapter, and the American Legion, all of LeClaire. He enjoyed arts and crafts such as leather working and wood burning. He was born Sept. 14, 1917, in LeClaire, the son of Charles Eugene and Ethel Bethia (Morey) Youngers. He married Bernice Belle Husset on April 2, 1939, in Davenport. During World War II he served in the Army. Memorials may be made to the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospitals. Survivors include his wife, Bernice; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Willis Miller, DeWitt, and Pam and Larry Marlier, LeClaire; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Connie Youngers, Long Grove, and Donald M., Davenport; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Kay Youngers, Princeton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dale, and a sister, Beulah.

Ronald Baker
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Ronald F. Baker, of Muscatine, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery . Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Baker died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Community Health Resources, Muscatine. He retired from Davenport Alcoa Works. He was born Feb. 20, 1941 in Reynolds, Ill. He married Mary Winkelpleck in 1965 in Reynolds. A memorial fund has been established for the Montpelier Fire Department. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Janine Schubick, and Mary Ellen Cunningham, both of Muscatine; a son, Sean, Muscatine; two grandchildren; a and a brother, Melvin, Reynolds.

Charles Morrison
ALEDO, Ill. -- Services for Charles Oliver Morrison, of Aledo, will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery , Hannibal, Mo. The Rev. Margie McDaniel Woods, of Broadway Methodist Church, will officiate. There will be no visitation. Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Morrison peacefully joined the Lord Saturday, April 24, 1999, at the Bettendorf Health Care Center. He received his education from the Eugene Fields schools. He was employed at the International Shoe Company, Hannibal, for 37 years, until retiring and moving to Aledo in 1965. He was then employed as a custodian for Community Unit District No. 201, retiring in 1975. He was a former member of Hannibal Broadway Methodist Church, later transferring membership to the Aledo Methodist Church. He enjoyed gold and gardening. He avidly fed the birds and had a small vegetable garden at the nursing home. He was delighted as the nursing home prepared his vegetable for the patients. Mr. Morrison was a true friend to all he knew. He loved the two family dogs and an adopted dog, Casey, in Nevada. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, and may he rest in peace. He was born Sept. 17, 1908, in Hannibal, the son of Benjamin and Harriet Janaway Morrison. He married Marie Pearson on Dec. 25, 1925, in Hannibal. She died in 1993. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Health Care Center. His life was his son, Bob, Davenport; three grandchildren, David Morrison, and Beth Ann Bierman, both of Davenport, and Janet Marie Allen, Menasha, Wis.; especially devoted to his eight great-grandchildren, Travis and Keeley Allen, Brooke and Blake Bierman, Ritchie and Joshua Morrison, and Brittany and Brandon Kuhrt; and a sister, Mildred Wilmoth, Kansas City, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jackie Stramer
FRUITLAND, Iowa -- Services for Jackie L. Stramer, of Fruitland, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Island Cemetery , Fruitland. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Stramer died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at University Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. She was a certified nurse's assistant at Muscatine Care Center. Jackie LaRue was born July 13, 1947, in Iowa City. She married Dennis Stramer in 1978 in Asbury. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Survivors include her husband; sons, George, Jack, Par and Arlo; three grandchildren; her mother, Evelyn LaRue, Muscatine; a sister, Rosemary Anderson, Letts; and brothers, Gary LaRue, Columbus Junction, and Larry LaRue, Fruitland.

Charles Henningsen
CLINTON, Iowa -- Charles Henningsen, of Clinton, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, and 9:30 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the church. He was employed as a lab technician at Clinton Corn Processing Company. Mr. Henningsen was born September 2, 1932, in Clinton. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church. Survivors include a brother, Russell, Clinton; nieces; and nephews.

Dewey Vale
VIOLA, Ill. -- Services for Dewey J. Vale, of Viola, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Cemetery , Viola, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1303 of Rock Island. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Family Funeral Services, Viola, Ill. Mr. Vale died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling. He worked as a machine operator for the International Harvester Farmall Works, Rock Island, until retiring. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved gardening. He was born Aug. 6, 1912, in Minnesota, the son of Raleigh and Mammie Vale. He married Harryetta Grace Rice on Oct. 6, 1945, in Chicago. She died March 5, 1993. During World War II he served in the Army. Memorials may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1303. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Gene Basala, Palm Bay, Fla., and Babette and Kevin Duncan, Erie; sons and daugher-in-laws, John and Rosalie Rice, Viola, and Michael Vale, Matherville; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Carl Marton, who helped raised him, a brother, a sister, and his wife.

Myrna Ripley
JOY, Ill. -- Services for Myrna M. Ripley, formerly of Joy, Illinois, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Joy United Methodist Church, Joy, Illinois. Burial will be in Peniel Cemetery , Joy. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo. Mrs. Ripley died Saturday, April 24, 1999, in Muscatine General Hospital. Myrna Mayhew was born July 4, 1907, in Perryton Township, in Mercer County. She married Lyle Ripley in 1932 in Marston. Memorials may be made to Joy United Methodist Church or Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include daughters, Carol Kiddoo, Joy, and Donna Kanagy, North Charleston, S.C.; sons, Charles Ripley, New Liberty, Iowa, David Ripley, Carol Stream, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Marion Pavlovic
BETTENDORF -- Services for Marion Haley Pavlovic, of Bettendorf, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Following the services the family will host a luncheon at the Bettendorf Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post No. 9128, 2902 State St., Bettendorf. A private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Pavlovic died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Kahl Home, Davenport, after a brief illness. In earlier years, she was employed as a nurses aide in several area health care facilities. She was a member of Eagle Auxiliary, a member and past commander of the Navy Mothers No. 47, the Bettendorf Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post No. 9128 Auxiliary, where she was the first president from 1950 to 1951, and a member of the Military Order of Cooties where she served as president from 1982 to 1983. She was also a member and past treasurer of the Bettendorf senior Citizens, the Independent Order of the Forresters, the Western Fraternal Life Association No. 201, Davenport, where she served as president and treasurer from 1983 to 1985, and a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of several card clubs and active in three bowling leagues. Memorials may be made to the family. Marion Matizak was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Bettendorf, the daughter of Micheal and Anna (Bidnick) Matizak. She married Ralph Haley on March 21, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death Sept. 21, 1977. She later married Art Pavlovic on Feb. 14, 1980, in Davenport. He preceded her in death June 28, 1991. Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy Wells, Bettendorf and Karen and Gary Beedle, Baldwin, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Hally Haley, Calamus, Iowa, and Micheal and Nancy Haley, Florissant, Mo., seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a brother, Charles Matizak, Charlotte, Iowa, and a sister-in-law, Josephine Matizak, Davenport. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Fosdyck, and a brother, Steve Matizak.

Marcella Swartout
CLINTON, Iowa -- Marcella M. Swartout, of Bluff Terrace Nursing Home, Clinton, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Samaritan South Hospital, Clinton. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, Mankato, Minn. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. He was employed as an assembler with Mid Tex Manufacturing in Mankato. Marcella Gillson was born March 6, 1922, in Mankato. She married Ernest Swartout in 1943 in DeCoria, Minn. He died in 1995. Survivors include daughters, Judy Diesch, Clinton, and Mary Kellett, Redding, Calif.; a son, Ernest Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Tudie Brandt, Highland, Calif.; and a brother, Howard Gillson, Mankato, Minn.

Arthur Foley
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Arthur V. Foley, of Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Foley died Saturday, April 24, 1999 at his home. He was a truck driver with Carstensen Freight Lines for 33 years, retiring in 1982. He was born April 14, 1925, in Clinton. He married Helen Leibert in 1950 in Clinton. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Dr. Christy Foley, Martin, Tenn., Lynn Luckritz, Shoreview, Minn., and Jane Sandholdt, Clinton; a son, Jim, Clinton; six grandchildren; a sister Ardelle Hertensen, Clinton; and brothers, Ray and Glenn, both of Clinton.

Earl Schaefer
BETTENDORF -- Services for Earl A. Schaefer, a life-long resident of Bettendorf, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, where a prayer vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Schaefer died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Being dedicated and hard-working, Earl was the fourth generation of the Schaefer family to farm the family's century farm in Bettendorf. He retired in 1986 after 50 years of farming. The property is known as "Schaefer Farms." He was a charter member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, a life-time member of the Scott County Farm Bureau, the Bettendorf Knights of Columbus, and the Quad-City Plus 60 Club. Memorials may be made to the church. Earl was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Bettendorf, the son of Ernest and Mary (DeWulf) Schaefer. He married Ruth Pokorny on Aug. 10, 1948, in Bettendorf. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and John Fitzgibbon, LeClaire, Iowa, and Karen and James "Tim" MacDade, Marco Island, Fla.; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Schaefer, Marco Island, Fla., and Mike and Kim Schaefer, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Scott, Sarah, Amy, Marianne, John, Shelley, and Ryan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathlyn and Alvin Schmidt, Stockton, Iowa, Jean and Harry Ralfs, Davenport, and Janet and Robert Carter, Park Ridge, Ill.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Eleanor Schaefer, Bettendorf.

August 'Pete' Kuehl
LONG GROVE, Iowa -- Services for August "Pete" Kuehl, of Long Grove, will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Mr. Kuehl died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Davenport. He and his wife owned and operated the Kuehl's Tavern, Long Grove, for 39 years. Pete was born June 3, 1910, in Germany, the son of Hans and Emma (Strahlendorf) Kuehl. He married Mildred Christiansen in October of 1940 in Manchester, Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 15, 1986. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or a favorite charity. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bernie Happ, Milan, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Carol Kuehl, Eldridge; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Doug and Jennifer Friedline, Moline; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Dawn and Ken Cochrane, Marion; grandsons, D.J. Friedline and Tyson Kuehl, both of Iowa City, and Chad Kuehl, Eldridge; a granddaughter, Dana Friedline, Moline; two great-granddaughters, Brittany and Tiffany Penney, both of Moline; a sister, Frieda Beenken, Grundy Center, Iowa; and a brother, Werner Kuehl, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Bill, Ernest, Richard, Hans, and Otto Kuehl.

James Wiggins
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for James R. Wiggins, of Rock Island, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. A Committal service will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Union Cemetery , Clinton County, where the burial will be. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Wiggins died Friday, April 23, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He received his bachelor's degree in science at Augustana College in1961. He was official-in-charge for the National Weather Service, Moline, retiring Feb. 2, 1990, after 34 years. He was a member of Memorial Heights United Methodist Church, Rock Island, and a Sunday school teacher. He also was a girls softball coach, in Rock Island. He enjoyed photography, genealogy, and traveling. He was born April 29, 1933, in Indianapolis, the son of Robert and Evelyn (Matney) Wiggins. He married Jeanette Miller on Sept. 17, 1955, in Delmar. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Air Force. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; daughters and son-in-law, Karla and Larry Harris, Walnut Creek, Calif., Kristi Wiggins, St. Ann, Mo.; sons and daughter-in-law, Randy and Sheila Wiggins, Casper, Wyo. and Scott Wiggins, Englewood, Colo.; grandchildren, Amelia, James and Charles Wiggins, all of Casper, Wyo., and Andrea Aragon, St. Ann, Mo.; and two sisters and one brother, including Roberta Cunningham, Muscatine, Iowa.

Harold Conrad
SARASOTA, Fla. -- Harold F. Conrad, of Sarasota, formerly of Rock Island, died Thursday, April 22, 1999. Memorial services and a gathering of friends will be in June in Rock Island. National Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements. He retired from Arvida Corp., Longboat Key, Ill. He was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Bryan, Texas. During World War II, he served as a pilot in the Navy. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Huss Conrad; Michael Alan, Silvis, Ill., David Lee, Crystal, Minn., Chris Stephan, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Mark Leonard, Sarasota; six grandchildren; and a brother, James, Cuero, Texas.

Cathie Meier
ROCK ISLAND -- Memorial services for M. Cathie Meier, of Phoenix, formerly of East Moline, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Mrs. Meier died Dec. 6, 1998, in Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Johnson, in 1969. She married Milo Meier in 1974. She retired in 1974 as a general communication equipment operator at Rock Island Arsenal Communications Office. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Linda Johnson, of California; sons, Larry Johnson, of Florida, and James Johnson, of California; stepdaughters, Mary Meier, Rock Island, Peggy Busch, Bettendorf, and Nancy Buchieri, Atlanta; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Beyer, Moline.
