KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Lillian D. Pate, Kewanee, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Pate died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee. She was a homemaker. Lillian Girkin was born Oct. 23, 1924 in Burn Township, Ill. She married Durrell Pate in 1946 in Kewanee. He died in 1971. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Peter's Evangelical Church, Kewanee. Survivors include a daughter, Pam Pate, and a son, Robert, both of Kewanee; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a brother, Ray Girkin, Kewanee.

Edna Martin
TIPTON, Iowa -- Services for Edna A. Martin, formerly of Tipton, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church, Tipton. Burial will be in South Bethel Cemetery , rural Tipton. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Mrs. Martin died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after an extended illness. She was employed as a school cook from 1951 to 1980 and also worked at HiWay Gardens, Meet & Eat and Tipton Country Club. Edna McAfee was born July 18, 1910, in rural Tipton. She married Maynard Martin in 1932 in Rock Island. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include daughters, Mary Vrooman, Mission Viejo, Calif., Roberta Hamdorf, Hiawatha, Priscilla Highland, Fremont, Calif., and Marilyn Smith, Clinton; a son, Franklin M., Inverness, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Cora Nestle, Davenport, and Ruth Cronkhite, Yuma, Ariz.; and a brother, Elmer McAfee, LaVerne, Calif.

Mayme Kedley
MAQUOKETA, Iowa -- Services for Mayme Kedley, New Glarus, Wis., formerly of Maquoketa, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery , Maquoketa. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Haylock-O'Hara & Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, with a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters of America. A vigil service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Mrs. Kedley died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at New Glarus Nursing Home, after a brief illness. Mayme O'Connell was born March 5, 1904, in Jackson County. She married Edward Kedley in 1926 in South Garryowen. They farmed in South Garryowen and on the family farm in Zwingle. He died in 1965. Survivors include nieces and nephews, including Hazel Kleeman, New Glarus.

Jennie Geerts
MORRISON, Ill. -- Services for Jennie Geerts, a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery , Morrison. Visitation is 6-89 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Geerts died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at the nursing home. Jennie Vos was born June 5, 1904, in Muskegon, Mich. She married Louis "Lou" Geerts in 1930 in Morrison. They farmed in the rural Morrison area until 1973. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include her husband, Lou; a daughter, Mary Pierce, Williamsburg, Va.; sons, Robert and Alan, both of Morrison; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Robert Buser
COLUMBUS CITY, Iowa -- Robert G. Buser, Columbus City, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery , with military services conducted. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Buser was employed as a machine operator at Frank's Foundry Machine Division, Moline. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Conesville. He married Arlene Boulton in 1950 in Memphis, Mo. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; daughters, Rachel Buser, Wasilla, Alaska, Myra Fuller, Columbus Junction, Susan Kallman, Moline, and Debra Moon, Moline; a son, Robert, Colona, Ill.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ellen Baker, Winfield, and Betty Mason, Lebanon, Mo.

Keith Spears
ANNAWAN, Ill. -- Services for Keith A. Spears, Chandler, Ariz., formerly of rural Annawan, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairview United Methodist Church, rural Annawan. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery , with military services conducted. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Annawan Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Mr. Spears died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Chandler Regional Hospital. He had farmed in the rural Annawan area until 1989. He also sold insurance for Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. He was born Jan. 20, 1933, in Sheffield. He married Janet Downey in 1952 in Annawan. During the Korean War, he served in the Air Force. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife, Janet; a daughter, Darci Spears, Chandler; sons, Bruce A., LaSalle, and Roger A. and Paul A., both of Chandler; four grandchildren; and a sister, LaVonne Keim, Annawan.

Edna Lamm
MOUNT MORRIS, Ill. -- Services for Edna Muriel Jones Lamm, of 414 S. Wesley, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oregon, Ill. The Rev. William Budden will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery , Oregon. Visitation is one hour before the service Wednesday at Finch Funeral Home, Mount Morris. Mrs. Lamm died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mount Morris. She had taught school in Lightsville and was employed as a clerk at Kable New Co., Mount Morris. She lived in Mount Morris for more than 65 years. Edna Jones was born Jan. 6, 1906, in Cherry, to George W. and Jennie O. (Schelling) Jones. She married Gerald Lamm on Aug. 17, 1928, in Oregon. He died July 1, 1974. She was a graduate of Leaf River High School class of 1924. She attended Illinois State University and received her teacher's certificate. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oregon; and Typographical Union Auxiliary, Ogle County Home Extension and Women of the Moose Chapter 485. Memorials may be made to Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home or Ogle County Hospice. Survivors include a son, Donald (Linda) Lamm, Rockford; daughters, Geraldine LeVar, Mount Morris, Sharon (David) Cinotto, Blue Grass, Iowa, and Susan (Michael) Klaas, DeWitt, Iowa; grandchildren, Cynthia (Greg) Yocum, Fairbanks, Alaska, Kenneth C. (Tracy) LeVar, Plano, Texas, Mary LeVar, Mesa, Ariz., David (Brenda) Cinotto, Fort Worth, Texas, Laurie Cinotto, Seattle, Wendy S. Miller, Iowa City, Christine (Chad) Good, Marion, Iowa, Amy (Jared) Crapp, Egan, Minn., Brian Lamm, Rockford, and Lisa Lamm, Rockford; great-grandchildren, Gregory Yocum, Cleveland, Joseph Yocum, Fairbanks, Ashley LeVar, Plano, and Daniel and Haley Cinotto, Fort Worth; and sister, Iva Dodson, Hot Springs, Ark. She also was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lola, Frances and Alta; brother, Harold; sons, Dennis and David Lamm; son-in-law, Kenneth LeVar; and grandchildren, Cathy and Christopher LeVar.

Donald Camp
GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. -- Donald Dean Camp, of 4173 S. Via de Febrero, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Mo. Private memorial services will be later in Green Valley. Mr. Camp was born April 15, 1927, in Hartley, Iowa. He had lived in Davenport for 30 years before moving to Arizona. He was employed as a building engineer at First Federal Savings and Loan before retiring in 1987. He was an Army veteran of World War II and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Davenport. He is survived by his wife, Arline; son, Dean Camp, Boynton Beach, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Keith Rock, Blue Grass, Iowa; grandson, Airman 1st Class Brad TeBrake, Glendale, Ariz.; and sister, Lauraine Hirt, El Dora, Iowa.

John Kane
MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Services for John J. Kane, of 1207 Lincoln Road, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery , Raritan. Visitation is today at Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth, with a rosary at 6:45 p.m. The family will be present 7-8:30 p.m. today. Mr. Kane died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home. He had managed the Interstate Dealer Service, Bettendorf, and later was employed as a machinist at Rockingham Manufacturing, Bettendorf, until his retirement. After that, he owned and operated Vac Signs in Bettendorf for five years. In earlier years, he was yard manager at McCullough Lumber Co., Monmouth, and farmed in Smithshire in Warren County. He was born May 7, 1916, in Raritan. He married Ruth Norville in 1937 in Raritan. She died in 1993. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Reeves, San Diego; sons, Jim, Monmouth, and Larry, Zanesville, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Lester, Monmouth; and a brother, Bill, Alta Loma, Calif.

Cicely Kane
BOULDER, Colo. -- Cicely Getz Kane, Boulder, died April 27, 2000, at Hospice Care Center, Louisville. Memorial services were May 3 at Mountain View United Methodist Church, Boulder. Additional memorial services will later in Michigan, where she and her family spent many summers. Cicely Getz was born Jan. 19, 1923 in Moline. She married George Clark in 1944. She married Harry Kane in 1960. He died in 1985. She had studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. She used her skills in calligraphy for several years to inscribe the names on ribbons for the annual Tree of Remembrance, sponsored by Hospice. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Boulder County, 2825 Marine St., Boulder, Colo., 80303; or the Humane Society of Boulder County, 2323 55th St., Boulder, Colo., 80303. Survivors include brothers, William, John and Thomas Getz; and sisters, Carol Bartholomew and Sara Winwood.

Bruce Mercer
ISSAQUAH, Wash. -- Bruce H. Mercer, of Issaquah, formerly of Rock Island, passed away May 5, 2000, at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, Kirkland, Wash. A family service was held at Tahoma National Cemetery , Kent. Mr. Mercer was born July 21, 1915, in Canton, Ill., to George and Blanche Mercer. He was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Special Forces. On Oct. 22, 1968, he married Jane L. Dorion in Moline. During the Big Band Era, he traveled with major bands playing trumpet. He owned and operated Acme Auto Agency Inc., Rock Island. In 1998, he moved to Issaquah to be near his family. He was a member of Rock Island Masonic Lodge 658, A.F.& A.M., Rock Island. He lived in Rock Island from 1932 to 1980. Survivors include his loving wife, Jane; a daughter, Dana A. Ahn, Issaquah; a son, Dale H. Mercer, Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren; a sister, Jeanne Mercer, Venice, Fla.; and a brother, Neil Mercer, Evansville, Ind. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Evergreen Hospice, 12822 124th Lane NE, Kirkland, Wash., 98034. Flintofts Issaquah Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Lipovac
ROCK ISLAND -- Services for Helen E. Lipovac, Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Farrell Hall, St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. The Rev. Tom Mizeur will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a wake service at 5 p.m. Mrs. Lipovac died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at her home. She was employed as a secretary and receptionist in the office of the late S.P. Durr, M.D., in Rock Island. Helen was employed by Dr. Durr for 15 years. She retired in 1983. In earlier years, she worked in the accounting department at Royal Neighbors of America. She was born Dec. 3, 1913, in Burlington, Iowa, to Albert and Minnie (Merte) Wedertz. Helen married Philip J. Lipovac on Nov. 22, 1947, in Rock Island. He died May 31, 1992. Helen was a member of St. Pius X Church, was secretary of the former St. Pius Mothers' Club and had been active with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of Jordan School. She enjoyed playing golf, playing cards with family and friends and spending many hours working in her vegetable and flower garden. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Church or Humility of Mary Housing in Davenport. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Arthur Cowles, St. Paul, Minn.; son, John "Chris" Lipovac, North Wilkesboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Misty Lee and Christopher Green; five great-grandchildren; sister, Juanita Turner, Rock Island; niece, Sandra Walters, Rock Island, nephew, Robert Turner, West Milford, N.J., and also several other nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Rita Murray, Rock Island.

Lucille Edgerton
WEST BRANCH, Iowa -- Services for Lucille Edgerton, West Branch, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, West Branch. Burial will be in West Branch Cemetery . Visitation is 5-7:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home, West Branch, with a rosary at 5 p.m. and a wake at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Edgerton died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Crestview Care and Rehabilitation Center, West Branch, after an extended illness. She taught in country schools in Cedar County for several years and worked at J. C. Penney Co. Inc. and worked 20 years in the admissions department at University Hospitals, Iowa City. Lucille Lynch was born July 2, 1913, near Cedar Valley. She married William Edgerton in 1940 in Cedar Valley. During World War II, she worked in a munitions plant in Ankeny. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include her husband, William; a daughter, Mary Ernst, Charleston, S.C.; a granddaughter; and a sister, Maxine McCalley, Cedar Rapids.

Paul Sweitzer
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Paul W. Sweitzer, of 3224 Mulberry Ave., will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery . Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Mr. Sweitzer died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home. He was employed 50 years as a life underwriter for Bankers Life. He was born June 29, 1910, in Grandview. He married Irene Minor in 1934 in Mount Vernon. She died in 1976. He married Lucille Zimmerman Worst in 1977 in Muscatine. Memorials may be made to the church or Rotary Foundation. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; daughters, Nancy Griffith, Glendora, Calif., Sondra Andersen, Muscatine, and Diane Yeager, Bradenton, Fla.; stepdaughters, Jo Ann Allbee, Muscatine, and Carol Bendle, Naples, Fla.; a son, P. William, Orlando, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
