DEAN ARTHUR (SCOTTY) BONEBRAKE
Dean Arthur (Scotty) Bonebrake was born January 30, 1915 to John Wesley and Lucile Morgan at Missouri Valley, Iowa, and departed this life May 16, 2000.
Scotty graduated from Lacona high school in 1930 and attended college at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for three years before returning to Iowa.
Scotty and Vena Padgitt were united in marriage July 9, 1935 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. To this union were born three daughters and one son.
Leaving those to cherish his memory are: his wife Vena; son Sigmund Bonebrake and his wife Sue of Delhi, Iowa; daughters, Lanaya Cessna of Blue Springs, Missouri, Ladonna Harmon and her husband Rocky of Blue Springs and Olivia Ethington and her husband Jim of Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and a multitude of friends throughout the state of Iowa.
Scotty purchased a farm near Kellerton, Iowa June 4, 1966 where he resided until the time of his death. He started farming his land in 1970 and retired in 1987. Farming was something he had always wanted to do but knew absolutely nothing about. He often said his neighbors, some relatives and friends helped him learn and received a lot of entertainment in watching his efforts.
Before farming he contracted and constructed industrial, commercial and residentail buildings in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Besides his visits with his family and playing cribbage with them or anyone else who would, farming was the thing he enjoyed most in his life.
Scotty was a member of Topaz Masonic Lodge #438 in Kellerton, Kellerton Order of Eastern Star, York Rite Masonic bodies in Leon, South Central Shrine Club in Mount Ayr, Za Ga Zig Shrine in Des Moines and the International Order of Odd Fellows in Kellerton.
Arrangements were handled by Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr for cremation.
The family requests all donations in honor of Scotty be made to: Green Valley Hospice, c/o Greater Community Hospital, Creston.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2000 at 10 a.m. in the Kellerton Community Center (old Kellerton gymnasium).

MARJORIE I. PALMER
Marjorie I. Palmer, 77, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died May 22, 2000 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.
Marjorie, the eldest of eight children born to Roy and Pearl (Allen) Dady, was born at Kellerton, Iowa on June 30, 1922. She grew up at Kellerton and graduated high school from there in 1940. She was united in marriage to R. Archie Palmer in 1940 and they lived in Mount Ayr, Iowa where they raised three sons and two daughters.
Marjorie was a member of the First Christian Church of Mount Ayr where she served as elder, board chair and teacher. She was an active volunteer with the Red Cross for many years and a member of the local chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Organization.
After raising their children in Mount Ayr, Marjorie and Archie relocated to Des Moines where she worshipped and taught Sunday school at Highland Park Christian Church. Marjorie worked for many years in the retail sales business and contributed countless hours as a volunteer to the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines.
In 1985, Marjorie moved to Clear Lake. She was active in the Clear Lake Christian Church as a teacher and worked in retail sales until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Pearl Dady; her husband Archie; two sons, Richard and Martin; a sister Jan; and one brother Junior.
Marjorie is survived by her eldest son Robert Palmer of Decatur, Illinois; her two daughters, Louise Donald of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and Gerrie Palmer of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandsons, one granddaughter and five great-grandchildren; three brothers: Richard, Roger and Jerry; and three sisters: Arlene, Eunice and Joyce.
Funeral services were on Friday, May 26 at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr with Reverend Larry Squier and Reverend John Brillo officiating. Musicians were Ginny Eighmy and Dr. Collus Lawhead. Casket bearers were Mathew Donald, Adam Donald, Sidney Palmer, Brian Palmer, Wayne Copeland and Kelly Main.
Marjorie was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Mount Ayr.

BARBARA KAY (PUTNEY) WEAVER
Barbara K. Weaver was born in Kellerton, Iowa on October 30, 1937 to Olie and Mildred (Mosier) Putney. She had two brothers, Walter and John Putney, who welcomed her home. She died of cancer at age 62 on May 22, 2000 at her daughter's home in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was married to Dorman E. Weaver in 1956 and has lived in Carlisle, Iowa since 1971. She was a homemaker and a member of Evergreen Church of Christ.
She is survived by three daughters: Cynthia Knouf, Mary Ellen Gallentine and Penny Weaver; and one son Dorman E. Weaver, Jr., all of Des Moines; a brother Walter Marion Putney of Kellerton; nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She was preceeded in death by her two parents, Olie and Mildred Putney; her husband and two grandchildren; a sister Margaret; and brother John.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 26, 2000 in Des Moines and she was buried at Middle River Friends Cemetery in Carlisle.

WARNER E. ZERAN
Warner E. Zeran was born November 2, 1910 in Waterloo, Iowa to John and Nellie (Urie) Zeran. He was graduated from Newton high school in 1928. On March 18, 1935 he married Clarice Mowalt at Newton, Iowa; she preceded him in death. On May 10, 1991, he married Viola E. Richardson at Bedford, Iowa.
He was employed as a machinist for John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa for 38 years before retiring in 1973. Warner lived in Waterloo before moving to Bedford 27 years ago. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Waterloo and attended the Clearfield Christian Church. He was also a member of Noble Lodge #458 AF & AM and Eastern Star Cornelia Chapter 524, both in Clearfield. He served on the Grand Lodge of Iowa in 1985 and 1986.
Warner was preceded in death by his first wife Clarice; his parents, John and Nellie Zeran; and his brother Raymond Zeran.
Survivors include his wife Viola of Bedford; two daughters, Evonne (husband Dr. Kenneth) Jennett of Bedford and Joan (husband Richard) Bothun of Albert Lea, Minnesota; a stepson Kyle (wife Mary) Richardson of Austin, Texas; a stepdaughter-in-law Diane Richardson of Lena, Illinois; three sisters: Hermoine Kelson of Russellville, Missouri, Darlene Shotwell of Ogdon and Juanita Watson of Oak View, California; four grandchildren: David (wife Sandy) of Creston, Iowa, Gary (wife Cindy) of Ottumwa, Iowa, Ron (wife Terri) of Osceola, Iowa and Steve (wife Chantelle) of Blockton, Iowa; three stepgrandchildren: Chad of Lawrence, Kansas and Todd and Brent of Lena, Illinois.
Warner is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren: Tim, Andy, Sarah, Kyle, Jacob, Brian, Heidi, Kevin, Maggie and Mitchell.
Services were held on Friday, May 26, 2000 at the Christian Church in Clearfield with Reverend Eydie Stephens officiating. Musicians were Jean Huffman, Becky Nelson and Mary Ellen Spurrier. Casket bearers were Dave Jennett, Gary Jennett, Ron Jenett, Steve Jennett, Virgil Bolinger and Fred Wilson.
Masonic rites were given by Noble Lodge #458, Clearfield.
Warner was laid to rest in the Clearfield Cemetery , Clearfield.

HAROLD ROGER BLADES
Harold Roger Blades, son of Leroy and Catherine Pearl (Glazebrook) Blades, was born December 20, 1918 near Van Wert, Iowa. He departed this life May 30, 2000 at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa at the age of 81 years.
Sam and Bertha Palmer of Grand River took him into their home when he was one year old, after his mothers death. Harold became a baby brother to the Palmer children, Harry, Ralph and Lowell. All have preceded him in death.
He received his education in Brushwood Country School and worked for many farmers in the area until enlisting in the US Army on February 21, 1942. He served with the 147th Infantry Regiment at Guadalcanal, Northern Solomon's and the Western Pacific. Honors included a Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. He was discharged on October 21, 1945.
On November 15, 1945 he was united in marriage to Vera May Jimmerson. To this union four children were born; David Eugene, Dean Roger, Duane Allen and Connie Sue.
Harold farmed in the Grand River, Davis City, Decatur and Mount Ayr areas from 1945 - 1970. At that time he became a service station operator/owner until retiring in 1990. He enjoyed traveling, driving through the countryside, reading and visiting friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Ringgold Post #172 of the American Legion both in Mount Ayr.
His parents, two sisters, Monica Pope and Catherine Blades of Oregon, and one brother Paul Blades of Galveston, Texas preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vera, four children, David (wife Shirley), Dean, Duane and Connie, a family friend Kathryn Nelson, two grandchildren, Joshua (wife Angie) Blades and Justin (wife Cynthia) Blades, three great grandchildren, a brother Don Blades of Aumsville, Oregon and a sister Marjorie Doerfler as well as other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.
Services were held Friday, June 2, 2000 at the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa at 1:30 p.m. Officiating were Rev. Diana Holland and Rev. Ralph Johnson. Nancy Sackett, Mary Trullinger, and Margaret Bickers provided music. Casket bearers were Joshua Blades, Justin Blades, Ronald Jimmerson, Bob Jimmerson, Jim Luther and Merl Comer. Harold was laid to rest at Grand River Cemetery , Grand River, Iowa. Military Graveside rites were done by Ringgold Post #172 American Legion.

VINCENT W. HERROLD
Vincent W. Herrold was born October 21, 1922 at Chillicothe, Missouri, to John and Diana (Lang) Herrold. Vincent passed away at his home northwest of Diagonal on June 2, 2000 at the age of 77 years.
Vincent lived his life on a farm where he loved to work the land and tend to his cattle. He enjoyed his Allis Chalmers tractors and had recently gone to John Deere.
Vincent was united in marriage to Retha Conley on September 22, 1982 at his sister Ruth's home in Gravity, Iowa.
Vincent was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Homer, John Jr. and Leo, whom was killed in World War II; a sister Lula May Claybaker; a brother-in-law Cecil Smith; and a sister-in-law Margery Pruitt.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Retha; one brother, Hubert Herrold of Diagonal; one sister Ruth Dideriksen and her husband Chris of Gravity, Iowa; two brothers-in-law Don Conley and his wife Pauline of Kansas City, Missouri and Ron Conley and his wife Betty of Mount Ayr, Iowa; three sisters-in-law Helen Herrold of Oregon, Margaret Herrold of Tucson, Arizona and Vesta Smith of Mount Ayr, Iowa as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Services were held Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at the Christian Church in Clearfield, Iowa at 1:30 p.m. Officiating was Rev. Eydie Stephens. The music was provided by Judy Newton and Shelly Mason. Casket bearers were Jack Taylor, Jim Taylor, Chris Eaton, Richard Taylor, Shon Berry and Gary Sobotka. Honorary pall bearers included Roger McCay, Ed Fletcher, Delbert Routh, Ed Johnston, Trent Johnston, Hal Dean Veatch, Claire Newton and Charles Fletcher. Vincent was laid to rest at Knowlton Cemetery , Diagonal, Iowa.

MARK LESTER BEEDE
Mark L. Beede, 87, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Indianola, died June 5, 2000, at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
Mr. Beede was born October 7, 1912, at Kellerton to Alonzo Harvey and Jessie Ruth (McNeil) Beede. On August 25, 1934, he married Ella Lucile Roberts at Grant City, Missouri. He was a retired farmer and lived in Indianola, Carlisle and Kellerton before moving to Mount Ayr in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Lee (wife Carolyn) Beede of Carlisle; a daughter, Ruth Davis of Montevallo, Alabama; two brothers, Duane (wife Gertie) Beede of Climax Springs, Missouri and Ivan (wife Loni) Beede of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sisters-in-law, Vera Deemer of Mount Ayr, Donna Beede of American Fork, Utah, and Lou Greenman of St. Charles; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by is parents; wife; three sisters, Ruth Beede, Esther McNeil and Doris Corll, and eight brothers, Ralph, Alvin, Cloyde, Russell, Rex, Homer, Howard and Vaughn.
Services were held at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong F.H. in Mount Ayr Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at 1:00 p.m.
Officiating was Rev. Michael Druhl with musical selection of "Just a Closer Walk with Thee; and "The Old Rugged Cross." Casket bearers were Lyle Corll, Russell Corll, Marvin Woollums, Kenneth Beede, Gene Beede and Jim Clark.
Mark was laid to rest at Oliver Cemetery in Kellerton, Iowa.

DOROTHY KATHRYN JENSEN
Dorothy was born September 19, 1928 to Cliff and Ethel Jackson in their home near Mount Ayr, Iowa. She passed away May 20, 2000 at her home in Chula Vista, California after a long struggle with cancer.
Dorothy attended Rose Hill grade school and graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1947. Following graduation she worked for the F.B.I. in Washington D.C. While there she met Wayne Leroy Jensen and they were married in June of 1950 following his graduation from the Naval Academy in Annapolis. To their union were born three sons, Stephen Wayne and twins Mark Ewing and Merrill Glen.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three sister: Mary Faith, who died in infancy; Opal Fern Barnett; and Anna Evelyn James; a brother, James Clifford; a nephew Clarence Marlin Henderson; and son, Stephen Wayne Jensen.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; son Mark of Missoula, Montana, his wife Seanna and their three children twin sons Kincaid and Sean and daughter Olivia Riley; son Merrill and his wife Waldena of El Paso, Texas; brothers John Delbert of Grant City, Missouri and Joseph Andrew of Mount Ayr; and one sister Sally Sedgewick of Grand Haven, Michigan.
A memorial service was held in San Diego on May 25. She will be at rest in the Naval Academy Columbarium in Annapolis, Maryland.

JOSEPHINE MILDRED COLE
Josephine M. Cole was born at Sidney, Iowa on January 9, 1905 to William & Gertie (Kuhns) Kellison. She passed away at the Clearview Home, Clearfield, Iowa on June 15, 2000 at the age of 95 years.
She was educated in Fremont County schools and was married to Worley Cole in the home of his grandparents at Hamburg, Iowa on September 26, 1921. To this union were born 10 children, six of whom survive: Mildred (husband Bud) Beymer, Norma Howland, Nadine Schinagel, Buddy Cole, Karen Snedeker and Jacky Davenport. Also surviving are daughters-in-law Peggy and Pat Cole; three sisters and one brother, Stella Laughlin, Vera Smith, Leona Hildebrand and Francis (wife Betty) Kellison. Also brothers-in-law Ralph Lambert, Glen Thompson, Kyle (wife Nina) Cole, and sisters-in-law Opal Kellison, Esther Minter and Norma Kellison, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and children Shirley, Worley Jr., Dolores and Ronald; three grandchildren; sons-in-law John Schinagel, Robert Howland, Rene Kuonen; brothers Ed, Asa and Norman and sisters Marjorie and Elsie.
She was baptized in the Christian Church in Hamburg, Iowa and attended church as long as she was able.
She loved to raise a garden to share with her kids, was an avid reader all her life, liked crafts, making quilts and enjoyed traveling, making many trips to California, Florida and Texas to visit family members.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Graveside services were held at Mount Olive Cemetery in Hamburg, Iowa on Saturday, June 17, 2000. Officiating was Rev. Eydie Stephens and casket bearers were Josephine's grandsons. There is a memorial established to Clearfield Christian Church.

BERNARD BURDETTE HULL
Bernard Burdette Hull was born May 18, 1926 to Walter Eugene and Mary Louisa (Perr) Hull in Putnam County, Missouri. He passed from this life on June 11, 2000 at the age of 74 at the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa.
He graduated fromArispe High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He belonged to the American Legion Dewey Post #516 for 25 years and was a member of theTingley Christian Church.
Bernie was united in marriage to Margaret Troxell Bryan in 1963. A son, Eugene Earl was born to this marriage.
Survivors include his wife Margaret; son Eugene Earl (wife Jennifer) of Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Jan (husband Jerry) Jensen of Ogden and Candy (husband Steve) McCowan of Lincoln, NE; two stepdaughters, Kathy Jackson of Burlington and Ruthie (husband Mark) Schlapia of Diagonal; stepson Robert (wife Linda) Bryan of Georgia; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Layefette (wife Priscilla), Lyle (wife Arnolene) of Mount Ayr and Larry of Grand River; a sister, Verladene (husband Edwin) Mains of Des Moines; two brothers-in-law, Joe Harpin of Sedalia, Missouri and Lyle (wife Carol) Troxell of Marcellus, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Bernadine Harpin and Noma Byrd; a baby sister in infancy and his parents-in-law.
He will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at the Christian Church in Tingley with Rev. Eydie Stephens and Rev. Merlin Wilkins. Mrs. Harold Brown was the organist with "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset" as musical selections.
Casket bearers were Ron Willey, Donald Weeda, Harold Brown, Richard Hull, Greg Hull and Kevin Hull. Military graveside rites were provided by Dewey Post #516 and Ringgold Post #172 American Legion members.
Bernard was laid to rest in the Tingley Cemetery at Tingley, Iowa.
