Mr. Daniel "Dan R. Carson, 57, of Burlington, Iowa died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, may 19, 2007, at his residence.

Born June 12, 1949 in Macomb, Illinois, he was the son of Robert Nolan and Hazel Irene Grimm Carson. He married Tina Lundeen Smith on June 21, 2003 in Burlington.

He was a graduate of Colchester High School and attended Gem City Business College. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent for 29 years, and loved taking care of his customers. Because of this he was one of the top five State Farm Agents in the company region of Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota for several years.

He was a long time contributor and had been active in the Steamboat Days Committee. He served as past president during the time of the largest crowd in the history of Steamboat Days. Dan was a founding member and served on the Executive Board Management Committee of Catfish Bend Casino, he was also a founding member of the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort and served on the Executive Board. In addition he was one of the Board of Directors for the Ryan Bowen Family Foundation. He was past president and long time member of Burlington Golf Club. His passion for the community showed in his relentless service and giving to various charitable causes.

He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Carson of Burlington; a daughter, Erin Carson of Macomb, Illinois; four grandchildren, Brayton, Elijah, Ashtin, and Brentin; his mother, Hazel Carson of Burlington; six siblings, Deborah Shelor of Rock Island, Illinois, Ronald Carson of Coralville, Iowa, Randall Carson of Greensboro, North Carolina, Rebecca Egerton of Burlington, Scott Carson of Wichita, Kansas, and Polly Heitmeier of West Burlington.

His father preceded him in death.

Alice G. "Jeri" Carter
September 10, 1931 - December 10, 2005

Alice G. “Jeri” Carter, 74, of Burlington, died at 9:35 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Great River Medical Center Klein Center.

“Jeri” was born September 10, 1931 in Richland, Iowa, the daughter of Willard V. and Gail True Mills Ward. She was a 1948 graduate of Burlington High School where she was involved in many extracurricular activities.

On January 21, 1950 “Jeri” and John F. Carter were married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington.

“Jeri” was a homemaker most of her life and had previously worked at Northwestern Bell, National Research, Winegard, Montgomery Wards in the Fashion Department, Burlington Medical Center and Fanny Farmers during the Christmas season. She was a very talented artist, especially with watercolor painting. She enjoyed bird watching, sewing of all kinds, fishing, traveling, craftwork, listening to music, and dancing.

She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church. “Jeri” loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

“Jeri” is survived by her husband, John Carter of Burlington; one daughter, Debra (Randy) Wehrle; three sons, Daniel (Lynne) Carter of Burlington, Steve Carter of Blandinsville, Illinois, and Thomas (Gina) Carter of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one sister, Betty Smith of Burlington; nine grandchildren, David Carter; Amanda, Monica and Andrew Carter; Ryan and Chris Carter; and Paul, Tim, and Betsy Wehrle; eight great grandchildren, Dorian and Preston Strom; Kyle and Zoe Wehrle; Tyler Dickinson; Brendan Carter; and Josh and Steven Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bob Ward; two sisters, Marilyn Nebergall and Arlene Stewart; and granddaughter, Crystal Carter.

Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13th, in Lunning Chapel. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and the family will receive friends following the Wake Service until 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14th, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Reverend Patrick Hilgendorf as Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Alzheimer’s Association and SS John and Paul Catholic Church.

Sandra S. Cary
February 6, 1945 - October 8, 2007

-Family will receive friends: Wednesday, October 10th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in
Lunning Chapel
-Funeral Service: Thursday, October 11th at 10:30 AM in Grace United Methodist
Church.
The Reverend Charles Downing will officiate
-Inurnment: Kossuth Cemetery , Rural Mediapolis at a later date.
Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church and the American
Cancer Society.
According to her wishes, the body of Mrs. Cary will be cremated following the funeral
service.

Mrs. Sandra S. Cary, 62, of Danville, Iowa went to be with the Lord at 4:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2007, at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

Born February 6, 1945 in Davenport, Iowa she was the daughter of Raymond and Darlene Schroeder Bang. On September 8, 1962 she married James M. Cary at the Methodist parsonage in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Mrs. Cary attended Morning Sun High School and received her Licensed Practical Nurse degree at John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois. She worked at Washington Heights in Burlington and Park Place Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant, retiring in 2006 due to health reasons.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, mentor through Young House Family Services, very active in Toys for Tots Program, and committee member for Miss Burlington Scholarship Program. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, shopping, sports and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, James M. Cary of Danville; two sons, Brad (Amy) Cary of Edwardsville, Illinois and J. Todd (Laura) Cary of Burlington; one daughter, Suzanne (Tobias) Lunsford of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Brock and Chad of Edwardsville, Kyle of Crocker, Missouri, Alison and J. Blake of Burlington and Mariah and Adryonna also of Burlington; three great granddaughters, Cadence and Autumn both of Burlington and Ellianna of Crocker, Missouri; three brothers, Ronnie (Blanca) Bang of Alameda, California, Raymond “Skip” (Peggy) Bang of Peoria, Arizona, and Robert (Becky) Bang of Reno, Nevada; two sisters, Beverly (Dennis) Petersen of Mediapolis and Betty (Fred) Kube of DeWitt, Iowa; 18 nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Betty McWhortor and special friends, Dee Green and Elaine Green.
She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Christopher Cary, and her parents.

Donald E. Cavins
June 11, 1923 - April 18, 2006

Donald E. Cavins, 82, of Burlington died at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at his residence.

Born June 11, 1923 in Media, Illinois, he was the son of Emory Alonzo and Mary Elizabeth Staley Cavins. On November 29, 1942 he married Doris Lillian Dixon in Monmouth, Illinois.

Mr. Cavins was a 1941 graduate of Media High School and attended Western Illinois State Teachers College for one year. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was discharged in 1945 as a 1st Lieutenant. He served in the 12th Combat Cargo Squadron supplying British and Indian troops in Burma and India. He was awarded the Air Medal plus four Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross plus three Oak Leaf Clusters. Through the G.I. Bill he went on to become a flight instructor in Monmouth and was a crop duster. He then became a civilian flight instructor for the Air Force and retired in 1985 after 24 years of service as corporate pilot for Bonewitz Chemicals.

Mr. Cavins was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Mariners, Men’s Fellowship, sang in the choir over 30 years, and was an elder, deacon and trustee. He was a member of Des Moines Lodge No. 1 AF&AM, United Commercial Travelers, A.O.P.A. and A.A.R.P.

Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Doris Cavins of Burlington; one son, Dr. James A. Cavins of Santa Barbara, California; one grandson, James “J.J.” Jordan Cavins; and one step granddaughter, Michelle McCutchan.

His son, Rev. Duane Cavins, and his parents preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established for First Presbyterian Church and Great River Hospice.

Bess Chubb
October 19, 1929 - November 17, 2005

Bess Ellen Chubb, 76, of Burlington died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2005, at her home.

Born October 19, 1929 in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Lloyd A. and Faye E. Burns Dalrymple. On April 20, 1952 she married David H. Chubb in Fort Madison.

Mrs. Chubb was a regional manager for Bee Line Fashions for 10 years and was a homemaker.

She was a 1947 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church, Ladies of the Moose, Jazz Club, Lady of a Shriner and a past member of Great River Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, David H. Chubb of Burlington; two daughters, Valerie Bohlen and Janet Parris, both of Burlington; one son, Kenneth Chubb of Olathe, Kansas; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two step grandchildren; and one sister, Jane Wismer of Burlington.

An infant daughter and her parents preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established for West Hill United Methodist Church.

Merril Thomas Cline
September 28, 1918 - March 16, 2007

Merril Thomas Cline, 88, of West Burlington, Iowa, died Friday, March 16, 2007 at his home. Born September 28, 1918, in Jefferson County, Iowa, he was the son of Arlo William Hanson Cline and Blanche McWilliams Cline. On May 8, 1941 he married Agnes B. Mohler in Seattle, Washington.

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1936.

Mr. Cline was in the Navy Reserves from 1938 until 1942 and a WW II Veteran of the Army from 1943 until 1945. He was a Master Tool and Die Maker for TRW and several other companies until his retirement in 1985.

He was a life member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge #579. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and helping others. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita M. (Keith) Howard of Middletown, Iowa and Karen K. (Jerry) Von Behren of Burlington, Iowa; two sons, Thomas W. (Shirley) Cline of Arvada, CO and Michael C. (Barbara Work) Cline of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kristina Vance, Beth (Matt) Trexel, Brandon Howard, Sean Tansey, Cody and Cory Cline; two step grandchildren, Amber Rego and Jamie (Jason) Humphrey; three great grandchildren, Steven, Autumn and Mitchell Trexel; and eight step great grandchildren, Michael and Israel Villareal and Tyler Rodriguez, Ariel Voit, Zach and Tyler Akau, Kaylee and Riley Humphrey; one brother Arlo W. (Winifred) Cline of Bettendorf, Iowa; two half brothers, Robert (Ronna) Cline of Sheboygan, Wisconsin and James Cline of Mason City, Iowa and one half sister, Connie (Gary) Smith of Rochester, Minnesota; stepmother, Marjorie Rush of Rochester, Minnesota; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

His wife, parents and two grandchildren, Lisa and Scott Howard preceded him in death.
