NORA LORENE COMBS
Nora Lorene Wimer Combs, a resident of the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, Iowa passed away at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on July 24, 2001.
Lorene was born the daughter of Albert Mitchell Wimer and Helen Maude Agler Wimer on July 27, 1913 near Mount Ayr, Iowa.
On July 29, 1933 she was married to Arnold Raymond Combs in Maryville, Missouri. He died on August 29, 1988 in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Lorene graduated from Mount Ayr high school and had advanced college work through Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri. Lorene was a teacher during World War II and then went on to be a salesperson for the Anthony's Department Store in Mount Ayr for some 25 years. Later Lorene managed a furniture store in Mount Ayr for nearly 10 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge, Royal Neighbors of America and the Gray Lady Volunteers. Lorene was an avid bridge player, loved crocheting, quilting and ceramics. Her memory will be loved and cherished by her family, her friends, students and customers.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Marilyn Ann Combs Giles; her mother and father; and a brother and sister, John Welma Wimer and Velma J. Wimer Kimball.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Helen Shelden and husband Ray of Marion, Iowa; her son, John Combs of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Andrea Schindler and husband John and Caprice Shelden, all of Marion, Iowa; Jerry Combs and wife Shayne and Terri Strong and husband Don, all of Houston, Texas; John Giles and wife Cindy of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Dena Kothe and husband Jim of Denver, Colorado; one niece, JoAnn Kraly and husband Frank of Denver, Colorado; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 27, 2001 at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa with Rev. Mike Eighmy officiating. Musicians were Ginny Eighmy and Ed and Kathy Shields.
Casket bearers were Jerry Combs, John Giles, Meghan Redd, John Schindler, Malcolm Eighmy and Dustin Eighmy. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Kothe, Dalton Schindler, Jarred Combs, Bailey Schindler, Don Strong, Max McGehee and Bernard Crawford.
Lorene was laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.

GLENDA JOYCE DEBOARD
Glenda Joyce DeBoard, daughter of Glen "Red" and Lorene (Warner) Hale was born April 28, 1942 at Mount Ayr, Iowa, and passed away at her home in Mount Ayr on July 26, 2001 at the age of 59 years, two months and 28 days.
Joyce was united in marriage to Frank DeBoard on September 10, 1958 at Grant City, Missouri. They had four children together: Gary Gene, Debbie Ellen, who preceded her in death on April 14, 1962, Frankie Kay and Michael Ray.
She worked as a nurses' aide for many years until she had to retire because of ill health in 1996. She lived most of her life in Mount Ayr. She enjoyed watching TV and going to yard sales.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Debbie.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband Frank of Mount Ayr; three children, Gary and wife Judy of Urbandale, Iowa, Frankie Johnson and Mike DeBoard, both of Mount Ayr; four grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Johnson, Christopher Edward, Andy James and Jennifer Fay DeBoard; one sister Phyllis and husband Bob Thurman of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and brother Jim Hale of Orlando, Florida.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 30, 2001 at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Reverends Ward Campbell and Phil Campbell officiating. Musical selections were "Somebody Bigger Than You and I" and "Crying in the Chapel" by Elvis Presley. Casket bearers were Carolyn Michael, Judy Johnson, Paula Webb, Judy DeBoard, Phyllis Thurman and Kim Schar-fenkamp.
Joyce was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Mount Ayr.

LUCIUS DALE EIGHME
Lucius Dale Eighme, 86, of Mount Ayr, Iowa, formerly of Tingley, Iowa, died July 28, 2001, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.
Mr. Eighme, son of Lucius Franklin (Lute) Eighme and Clara Joyce (Teen) Elder Eighme was born January 28, 1915, in rural Tingley. He was graduated from the Tingley high school in 1934.
On May 16, 1941 he married Georgia Lee Lutz at Princeton, Missouri. Two daughters, twins Doris Elaine and Mary Lynn, were born to them.
L.D. was a farmer and a licensed jeweler. He stripped blue grass, seeded lawns and was involved in soil erosion control. He also had his own company, E & G Landscaping.
In 1956 L.D. and Georgia moved into Tingley. Lucius loved to hunt, trap, repair clocks and watches and be with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rex and Frank.
He is survived by his wife Georgia of Mount Ayr; his daughters, Mary Lynn (husband Dennis) Miller of Ankeny, Iowa and Doris (husband Roger) Herington of Tracy, Iowa; five grandchildren: Troy Miller, Lori Greene, Kevin Greene, John Herington and Nicole Abernathy; 14 great-grandchildren: Chris, Tosha and Teah Miller, Zach, Nick and Tori Greene, Dustin and Jeremy Richards, Nichol Vander Veer, T.J. Latcham, Alex Herington, Zach Stout, Jered and Jaydin Abernathy; and one great-great-grandchild Noa Vander Veer.
He is also survived by his sister Alice Marie Scott of Yankton, South Dakota, other devoted relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Reverend Eydie Stephens officiating. Ginny Eighmy was the organist. Casket bearers were Kenny Schaefer, Gary Petersohn, Joe Dukes, Mike Schaefer, Frank Pollock and Jerry McAlexander.
L.D. was laid to rest in the Tingley Cemetery , Tingley.

IRVING DOYLE TRULLINGER
Irving Doyle Trullinger, youngest son of Irving and Pearl (Brown) Trullinger, was born June 16, 1925, on a farm east of Watterson, Ringgold county, Iowa. He passed away in his sleep at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on July 25, 2001.
Doyle lived all his life in Ringgold county other than four months when he lived in Oregon. He received his education in the Ringgold county school system, graduating from Delphos high school in 1945.
Doyle and Roxie Jean Ward were married on June 17, 1946, at Atchison, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Linda, Stephen, Ellen and John.
Doyle was a farmer most of his life and had farmed near Delphos as a young man and had then owned farms south of Mount Ayr until he retired. He served as Ringgold county supervisor for eight years. He thoroughly enjoyed his family. His greatest pleasures in life were watching sporting events, plays or musical productions or anything kids or grandchildren were involved in and just being at family events. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making homemade ice cream and being with friends. He never knew a stranger.
Doyle was a member of First Christian Church of Mount Ayr where he had served as co-chair of the building committee and as a deacon until his health no longer allowed him to serve.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harold and John; and sisters Izola Tull and Gladys Bonjour.
Doyle is survived by his wife Roxie and children Linda Konnath and husband Bill of Ankeny, Iowa, Stephen and wife Gail of Mount Ayr, Ellen Brand and husband David of Audubon, Iowa and John and wife Cindy of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren, Julie Crawford and husband Chris of Rogers, Minnesota, Ted Zimmerly and wife April of Omaha, Nebraska, Karen Murphy and husband Ryan of Eudora, Kansas, Jennifer Brand of Overland Park, Kansas, Shelli and Scott Brand of Audubon, Jared Trullinger of Fort Worth, TX, Mark and Kevin Trullinger of Mount Ayr, Ashley and David Trullinger of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Constance and Joey Beltran of Shenandoah, Steve Konnath and wife Jane of Omaha, Nebraska, Scott Konnath and wife Anne of Honolulu, Hawaii, Judy Fisher and husband Dennis of Aberdeen, New Jersey and Joan Allison and husband Mike of Alexandria, Virginia.
Great-grandchildren are Dalton Crawford, Hailey, Erik, A.J. and Austin Konnath, Kevin and Jessica Fisher and Craig Allison. Doyle is also survived by his sister Mona Sovereign of Mount Ayr, brother Paul Trullinger of Redding, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the First Christian Church of Mount Ayr with Pastor John Brillo and Reverend Gwen Trullinger conducting the services. Musicians were Mary Trullinger, Margaret Bickers and Ginny Eighmy. Casket bearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Elon (Shorty) Swanson, Bob Richardson, Bob Gardner, Gene Huntsman, Cal Hamann and Clarence Wilson.
Doyle was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Mount Ayr.
Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.

ELVA ELIZABETH FLETCHALL
Elva Elizabeth Fletchall was born February 25, 1903 in southern Ringgold county, Iowa to George and Fannie (Bell) Richardson.
Elva graduated from Mount Ayr high school and taught rural school until her marriage on April 30, 1924 to Cordie Jennings Fletchall. Together they lived and farmed near Eagleville, Missouri until retiring in 1974. At this time they moved into Mount Ayr and shortly thereafter Cordie passed away.
Elva continued to live in Mount Ayr where she attended the United Methodist Church and belonged to a garden club. In 1986, Elva moved to Altoona, Iowa and lived at the Briarcliff Assisted Living in Altoona from 1994 to 1998. Elva moved into C.L.C. of Polk City, a nursing home in Polk City, Iowa, in 1998 and continued to make this her home.
Elva passed away on July 29, 2001 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 98 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son Duain C. Fletchall at the age of three; her twin sister Ethel Eckard in addition to sisters Lena Anderson and Gladys Foltz; and two brothers, Cecil and Mark Richardson.
She is survived by her daughter Jean Evans and her husband Roger of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Gregg Evans of Ankeny, Diane Evans and her husband Jim Clover of Thornton, Colorado and Stephanie Evans of Chicago, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Brian and Erin Evans; three sisters, Genevieve Greimann of Rochester, Minnesota, Ada Rogers of Mount Ayr and Crystal Narin of Sun City, Arizona; a brother Wayne Richardson of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Graveside services were held Thursday, August 2, 2001 at Weaver Chapel Cemetery , Hatfield, Missouri with pastor Sue Thomas officiating.
A memorial fund has been established for the United Methodist Church, Mount Ayr.
Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.

ELIZABETH McGREGOR
Elizabeth McGregor was born December 1, 1908 at Mount Ayr, Iowa to Frank and Jennie (Bell) German. She graduated from Mount Ayr high school and attended Maryville Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri. Elizabeth taught school in one room country schools in Ringgold county, Iowa.
On April 8, 1931, she was united in marriage to David D. McGregor in Corydon, Wayne county, Iowa. They lived on a farm near Tingley, Iowa where their two daughters were born, later living on farms at Alta, Sexton, Algona and Burt, Iowa.
The family rented farms that were in need of repair and after all the work was completed, the owner would sell the farm and they would move on to the next farm that needed to be fixed up. While living in Alta, they joined the Baptist church where they became Christians.
In 1946, they moved to Oregon and lived in the Philomath area for three years. In 1949, after moving to Corvallis, Oregon, Elizabeth got a job for a short time at the Dinette restaurant. She then began her career in retail department stores first working at McGregor's Five and Ten Cent Store (no relation). After several years at McGregor's, she worked at Nolan's Department Store which later became Robert's Bros., retiring from there. Elizabeth also managed the apartments where they lived.
She attended the Corvallis First Baptist Church where she helped with the monthly newsletter and the weekly bulletin. For 20 years, she helped at the polls with Benton county elections.
David passed away in 1982. Elizabeth continued to live there until 1990, when she moved to Albany, Oregon. In 1996, after her health had failed, Elizabeth moved to Salem, Oregon to live with her daughter Anna Mae. In 1998, she returned to Albany to live in adult foster care.
Elizabeth died on July 18, 2001 in Albany, Oregon at the age of 92 years.
Elizabeth's hobbies included gardening, animals, reading, cooking and keeping a good house.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two great-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Mae Poli and husband Raymond of Salem, Oregon and Delene McGregor Haake and husband Dan of Albany, Oregon; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, July 26, 2001 at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Reverend Diana Holland officiating, Debbie Cannon the organist and John Allen the soloist. Casket bearers were Dan Haake, Eric Walter, Harold Bowers, Donald Weeda, Edward Shields and Ronnie Shields.
Elizabeth was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Mount Ayr.

EDNA LOUISE PERLENFEIN
Edna Louise Perlenfein was born June 19, 1910 at Wolbach, Nebraska to Mervin and Emma (Hoffman) Killinger. She grew up at Wolbach and was united in marriage to Theodore O. Perlenfein on December 30, 1931, at Fullerton, Nebraska. The marriage was blessed with four children: twins, Twila A. and Leila E., Larry G. and Connie K. They farmed in the Wolbach area after their marriage.
The family moved to a farm south of Mount Ayr, Iowa, in Middle Fork township, on March 1, 1944. This was their home for several years. Edna was a devoted farm wife and loving mother. She taught her girls how to sew, cook and can produce. She always had a big garden that fed the family throughout the year.
Edna was a girls 4-H leader. She enjoyed being around people, going to the neighborhood clubs, had a great sense of humor and loved to play cards and she played to win.
Edna was always involved in clubs and organizations. She belonged to book and gardening clubs and was active in leadership roles on local, district and state levels with the Rebekkah Lodge. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, helping and donating whenever needed such as for funeral dinners and the Iowa State Fair concession stand. She will be remembered for telling those funny stories.
In March of 1966, Edna and Ted moved to Tarkio, Missouri to operate a small business. They retired back to Mount Ayr in 1970 and Ted died on April 7, 1974. Edna continued to live in her own home. She passed away on August 6, 2001, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ted; her daughter Leila E. Civitate, twin to Twila, in 1996; and her five brothers, Merle, Ray, Elmer, Woodrow and Earl Killinger.
Those left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life include her children, Twila A. Simon and her husband Walter of Walker, Iowa, Larry G. Perlenfein and his wife Melba of Moline, Illinois, and Connie K. Kretchmer and her husband Ronald of Omaha, Nebraska; her son-in-law Donald Civitate of Des Moines, Iowa; her three grandchildren, James L. Simon, Kevin K. Simon and Stacy A. Kretchmer; her four great-grandchildren, Steven J., Sara A., Heather M. and Kyle J. Simon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may stop for a visitation after 9:00 a.m., Thursday, August 9, with a family visitation Thursday evening from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2001, at First Christian Church in Mount Ayr. Services will be led by Edward Shields with the message given by Reverend John Brillo. Music is provided by Nancy Sackett, organist, and Madeleine Widstrom, vocalist.
Casket bearers are Kevin Simon, James Simon, Kyle Simon, Steven Simon, Gerald Killinger, Gene Killinger, Kenneth Killinger and Bill Harris. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Killinger, Dean Frost, Harold "Tom" Golliday, Frank Higgins, Homer Rinehart and Roy Warner.
Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery , Mount Ayr.

GRACE ARLENE WILSON
Grace Arlene Wilson was born September 14, 1908 at Pleasantville, Iowa to Frederick and Minnie (Bull) Schroeder. Grace graduated from Milo high school in 1926 and lived in Warren and Marion counties until 1949. On July 1, 1949, she married Cullen Wilson and they moved to Blockton, Iowa.
Grace enjoyed being a farm wife and tending to her flowers and caring for the birds. She liked to keep up on news and politics. Cullen passed away in 1965 and Grace continued to live at Blockton until 1996 when she moved to Carlisle, Iowa so as to be near her grandchildren.
Grace was a member of the Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star.
Grace passed away at the Westview Care Center in Indianola, Iowa on August 1, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Cullen; a son Roger W. Summy in 1993; and two brothers, Earl and Leland Schroeder.
Survivors include her two grandchildren, Leland Summy and his wife Deanna and Roberta Summy, and two great-grandchildren, Allison and Kelsey Summy, all of Des Moines, Iowa; two nieces, Dorothy Tucker and Darlene Lyda; and two nephews, Donald and Mark Schroeder.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 4, 2001 at the Christian Church in Blockton with Reverend Scott Marcum officiating and Jodie Lawrence the pianist. Casket bearers were Terry Green, Jerry Kemery, Charles Gillum, Leo Dillon, Eldon Stroburg and Don Marker.
Grace was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Blockton.
Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
