William Joslin
Services were Dec. 27, 1999 for William Edward Joslin, 83, of Holstein at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Revs. Michael Saylor and John Schauer officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Joslin died Dec. 24 at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek.
Mr. Joslin was born Nov. 1, 1916, in Holstein, the son of Allen and Ida (Kurtz) Joslin. He was raised and attended school in Holstein. He assisted his father in Joslin Hybrid Seed Company for 40 years.
He married Lela Anderson Sept. 17, 1944, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1944. He dissolved Joslin Hybrid Seed Company after the death of his father, but continued to farm and raise Angus cattle. He was a lifelong resident of Holstein until eight years ago when he moved to Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Kim Joslin of Holstein; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Kayla.

Russell Wood
Services were Dec. 28, 1999 for Russell Lee Wood, 84, of Ida Grove at Church of God in Ida Grove. Dr. Herbert K. Johnson officiated with burial in Kiron Cemetery in Kiron under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Wood died Dec. 25 at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.
Mr. Wood was born June 22, 1915, on a farm near Arthur, the son of Harry and Augusta (Johnson) Wood. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Arthur country schools. As a young man, he farmed and worked for different farmers.
He married Eleanor Marie Bergin Sept. 15, 1943, in Kiron. The couple farmed in Hayes Township, Ida County. They retired from farming in 1990, but continued to make their home on the farm.
He was a member of the Church of God where he served on the church council. He also was a school direc-tor, served on the Farm Bureau board and was a member of the 4-H committee.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Eugene and Mary Wood of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters and their husbands, Grace and Gerald Langholdt of Denison and Nancy and Robert Krueger of Battle Creek; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Marlene Riese of California; two sisters-in-law, LuElla and her hus-band, Bud Nepper, and Vera Iversen, all of Ida Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl Neumann
Services were Dec. 22, 1999 for Carl William Neumann, 84, of Ida Grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Revs. John Schauer and Michael Saylor officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Neumann died Dec. 20 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Mr. Neumann was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Spencer, the son of William and Mathilda (Erne) Neumann. He graduated from Kiron High School.
He married Elvira Schwenk Oct. 31, 1937, in Ida Grove. The couple resided in Ida Grove where he operated the Sinclair Service Station and later worked for the City of Ida Grove.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marian Stevenson of Lake City; a son and his wife, Leonard and Miriam Neumann of Vincennes, Ind.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Wissink of Ida Grove.

Carl Neumann
Services were Dec. 22, 1999 for Carl Neumann, 84, of Ida Grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. Burial was in the Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Neumann died Dec. 20 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Florence Petersen
Florence F. Petersen, 90, of Ida Grove died Dec. 16, 1999, at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
Mrs. Petersen was born July 29, 1909, in Ida Grove, the daughter of John and Fredricka (LaFrantz) Colshan.
She married Peter J. Petersen Feb. 18, 1930. She worked as a clerk at Wilkens Hardware Store and Johnson Hardware in Ida Grove for many years.
She was a member of Church of God of Ida Grove.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Gladys and Leland Page of Sandy, Utah; two grandchildren, Leann and her husband, Michael McFalls of West Jordan, Utah and James Page of Sandy, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Loren Kuhrts
Services were Dec. 22, 1999 for Loren J. Kuhrts, 75, of Quimby at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby. The Revs. Don Meyer and Rich Keyser officiated with burial in Sunset View Cemetery in Washta, with military rites conducted by L.A. Westcost Post 2253 of the V.F.W. and the Washta American Legion, under the direction of Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Mr. Kuhrts died Dec. 18 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.
Mr. Kuhrts was born March 30, 1924, in Holstein, the son of Ernest and Hilda (Schlinz) Kuhrts. He graduated from Quimby High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart, the Silver Star and Bronze Star.
He married Mary Lue Regennitter Nov. 1, 1984, at New Sharon. He had farmed and did grain bin construction for 32 years. He then went into the carpentry business. He had lived in Quimby the past five years. Before Quimby, he lived in Washta for eight years and prior to that he lived on a farm east of Washta in Willow Township for many years.
He was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Quimby, L.A. Westcott Post 2253 of the V.F.W., the American Legion at Washta, the Quimby Golf Course and the Quimby Town and Country Club. He was a former Boy Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen Kuhrts of Colorado and Marty Bumann of Washta; three daughters, Linda Kuhrts of Colorado, Tammy and her husband, Rodger Renken of Cherokee and Cindy and her husband, Lyle Hanner of Quimby; eight grandchildren, Harlan Baumann, Christi, Wesly and Toby Grohe, Heather and Beth Hanner and Eric and Christian Kuhrts; a brother and his wife, Earl and Gloria Kuhrts of Alta; and a sister and her husband, Gladys and Robert Rupp of Cherokee.

Hazel Kleespies
Services were Dec. 20, 1999 for Hazel Irene Kleespies, 73, of Storm Lake at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. The Rev. Clair L. Boes officiated with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Mrs. Kleespies died Dec. 17 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.
Mrs. Kleespies was born June 13, 1926, in Galva, the daughter of Ellen C. and Cecil L. (Mills) Nelson. She graduated from Galva High School. She moved to Storm Lake, where she worked at Julius Cleaners for 14 years.
She married Louis H. Kleespies Feb. 11, 1948, in Jackson, Minn. The couple lived in Storm Lake, where she worked for First Federal Savings and Loan for 19 1/2 years, retiring in 1988. Her husband died in 1989.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Mary's Guild, WA-TAN-YE, Buena Vista Hospital Auxiliary and the Business and Professional Women.
Survivors include a brother and his wife, Carl and Dorothy Nelson of Barnum; four sisters-in-law, Edna Nelson of Alta, Rose Ann Nelson of Storm Lake, Virginia Nelson of Tucson, Ariz., and Helen Nelson of Correctionville.

Grace Forbes
Memorial services were Dec. 18, 1999 for Grace N. Forbes, 92, of Holstein, formerly of Goldfield, at the United Methodist Church in Holstein under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield at a later date.
She died Dec. 14 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.

William "Bill" Voge
Galva's mayor, William "Bill" Voge, died suddenly at his home Thursday, Dec. 9. He was 63.

He served as Galva's mayor from January 1998 until the time of his death.

Voge was instrumental in leading Galva back into the countywide law program during the past year.

At last month's Ida County Safety and Communications Commission meeting he said, "I'm very glad for the town and that I was able to convince many of them (to rejoin countywide law). I think it will be good for the town."

Mayor Pro-tem John Higgins will fill the remaining two weeks of Voge's term.

Services for William "Bill" W. Voge were Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 at Galva United Methodist Church. The Rev. Doris Lindley officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Voge was born April 11, 1936, in Holstein, the son of Walter E. and Geneva M. (Leonard) Voge. He attended rural schools in Cherokee County and graduated from Galva Community School. He attended the University of Iowa and received his BA and DDS de-grees. While attending the Univer-sity of Iowa, he lettered in gymnas-tics four years. He was in private practice in Alta and Laurens before becoming employed by the state at Glenwood and by the state hospital. He was a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He later moved to Galva.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his father, Walter Voge of Holstein; four brothers and their wives, Gerald and Laura Voge of Cherokee, Allen and Jyl Voge of Lincoln, Neb., Patrick and Anne Voge of Iowa Falls and Paul and Lois Voge of Galva; a sister, Karen Rush and her special friend, Carroll Perkins of Riverside, Calif.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ervin Schoer
Services were Dec. 10, 1999 for Ervin Carl Schoer, 72, of Holstein at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein. The Rev. Curtis Benson officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery , with mili-tary rites conducted by American Legion Dessel- Schmidt Post 225 of Holstein.

Mr. Schoer died Dec. 3 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mr. Schoer was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Silver Creek Town-ship, Cherokee, the son of William and Augusta (Klefe) Schoer. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in Galva.

He married L. Jannette Schoer Dec. 25, 1957. They farmed in the Holstein area, retiring in 1991.

He served in the army from 1950-52, was a member of AmVets and American Legion Dessel- Schmidt Post 225.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bruce Schoer and Carl and his wife, Paulene Schoer, all of Holstein; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Kenneth Schoer; three sisters, Ina Bennett of Hol-stein, Hilda Wiese of Cherokee and Alma and her husband, Jettie Sheperd of Julian, Calif.; a sis-ter-in-law, Gladis Schoer of Galva; and several nieces and nephews.

Lars Ludvigson
Services were Dec. 13, 1999 for Lars Henry Ludvigson, 73, of Holstein at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cushing. The Rev. Joelle Coville Hansen officiated with burial in Cushing Cemetery , with military rites conducted by American Legion F. Roger Baumann Post 624, under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Ludvigson died Dec. 9 at his home.

Mr. Ludvigson was born Sept. 19, 1926, in rural Holstein, the son of Ed and Ruby (Madsen) Ludvigson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Holstein. He received his education at Griggs Country School. He served in the Army in Korea and Japan from 1951 to 1953.

He married Joan Ehlert March 14, 1954. The couple resided south of Cushing where they farmed and raised livestock, most recently focusing on purebred cattle. The couple moved to Holstein in 1993, but continued daily trips to the farm.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council. He was a 45- year member and Past Commander of the American Legion F. Roger Baumann Post 624. He served on the Ida County Fair Board, the Farmers Co-op Board, belonged to the Simmental, Red Angus and Black Angus Associations and served on the Iowa Simmental Board for six years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Park and his wife, Darla Ludvigson of Cushing and Ryan Ludvigson of Billings, Mon.; three grandchildren, Kellen, Keisha and Kari Ludvigson; three sisters, Evelyn Weaver of McAlester, Okla., LaVinna Wiese of Cushing and Maybelle and her husband, Arthur Glick of Seminole, Fla.; a brother, Don Ludvigson of Holstein; a brother-in-law, Gene and his wife Sally of West Des Moines; an aunt; an uncle; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Karen Irlbeck
Services were Dec. 7, 1999 for Karen Irlbeck, 48, of Kiron at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. The Rev. Edward Murray officiated with burial in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison un-der the direction of Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.

Ms. Irlbeck died Dec. 4 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Ode-bolt.

Ms. Irlbeck was born July 18, 1951, in Sac City, the daughter of Everett and Phyllis (Werkmeister) Kluver. Her early years were spent on a farm in Marathon until the family purchased a farm near Kiron, where she was raised. She graduated from Denison Community School in 1969 and from Storm Lake School of Hairstyling and Cosmetology in 1970. While in high school, she worked at Colonial Manor in Odebolt and Claudia's Nursing Home in Denison.

From 1971-74 she was employed as a hairdresser for Hannasch Beauty Shop in Carroll, where she resided. in 1974 she moved to Dedham where she established, owned and operated Karen's Beauty Shop until 1993.

She continued furthering her education receiving a business administration degree at DMACC in Carroll and an associate degree in health care administration at DMACC in Ankeny in 1993. She obtained experience in health care administration serving practicum hours at Bayard Care Center in Bayard, Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids and Manilla Manor in Manilla.

In 1994, she moved to Kiron and continued her education at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake receiving her bachelor's degree in May 1999. She became a patient at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt Nov. 16, 1999.

She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. She was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron on June 6, 1965 and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham on March 23, 1976. While residing in Dedham she was active at St. Joseph's serving as president of the guild and helping with various other circles. She was a member of the Hairdressers Association.

Survivors include a son, Eric Irlbeck of Dunlap; her mother, Phyllis Kluver of Kiron; five brothers and sisters, Eddie Kluver and Marcia Pope, both of Odebolt, Bonnie and her husband, Bill Harper of Denison, and Donna and her husband, Mike Shelp and Donald and his wife, Tammy Kluver, all of Kiron; nieces; nephews and other relatives.

Luverne Bumann
Services were Dec. 8, 1999 for Luverne Fred Bumann, 75, of Storm Lake at Storm Lake United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Swinton officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Mr. Bumann died Dec. 4 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Mr. Bumann was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Holstein, the son of Richard and Bertha (Weber) Bumann. He attended Ida County and Schaller schools and graduated from Hayes Consolidated School in Storm Lake. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He married Annetta M. Meyer Jan. 21, 1953, at Holstein. The couple lived in Storm Lake where he worked for Hygrade Food Products.

He was a member of Alta V.F.W. Post 6172 and the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen Bumann of Storm Lake and Janet and her husband, Ray Schneider, of Longview, Texas; two sons, Steve and his wife, Deb Bumann of Pierre, S.D. and Kevin Bumann and his fiancee, Dana Krenzel of Brookings, S.D.; four grandchildren, Aaron, Michael, Brian and Elizabeth Bumann of Pierre, S.D.; four brothers and their wives, Lloyd and Margaret Bumann and Marvin and Laura Bumann, all of Storm Lake, Robert and Beverly Bumann of Ankeny and Wendell and Marcella Bumann of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Ferne and her husband, Lloyd Combes of Sioux City, Lois Kass of Omaha, Neb. and Gladys and her husband, Dennis Johnson of Storm Lake; a sister-in-law, DeEthel Bumann of Sioux City; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A memorial fund has been established.

Emmet Dublinske
Services were Dec. 3, 1999 for Emmet B. Dublinske, 78, of Odebolt at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. The Rev. Al Milligan officiated with burial in Odebolt Cemetery under the direc-tion of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.
Mr. Dublinske died Nov. 30 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Mr. Dublinske was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Wall Lake, the son of Carl and Alma (Schroeder) Dublin-ske.
He married Pauline Blum in 1942, in Dakota City, Neb. The couple lived in Odebolt and then in Yankton, S.D. before moving back to Odebolt in 1984. He worked for the Odebolt Creamery and as a metal fabricator while in Yankton.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Odebolt.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Stanley and Leslie Dublinske of Montgomery Village, Md., Neil and Patricia Dublinske of Odebolt and Lance and Judy Dublinske of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter and her husband, Roxie and Ron Hirsch of South Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ina Kaus
Services were Dec. 6, 1999 for Ina Mae Kaus, 92, of Holstein at the United Methodist Church in Holstein. The Rev. Judith A. Piper officiated with burial in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mrs. Kaus died Nov. 30 at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.
Mrs. Kaus was born March 21, 1907, in Avoca, the daughter of Ferdinand and Clara (Mueller) Dethlefs. She attended country school to the eighth grade.
She married Solomon Earnest in May of 1931. She married Harvey Kaus June 21, 1964. Following her first marriage she resided in the Avoca and Oakland areas. She later moved to the Holstein area, where she was employed at the Stormking Hatchery for 10 years.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Holstein.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Dean and Ruth Earnest of Gilman City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Francis Earnest of Holstein.

Matthew Hamann
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 9, 1999 for Matthew Christopher Hamann, 24, of Battle Creek at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Gerald M. Fisch will officiate with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Ida Grove. Visitation will be after noon Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a scripture service at 8 p.m. at Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mr. Hamann died Dec. 6 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Mr. Hamann was born June 7, 1975, in Ida Grove, the son of Donald J. and Jane (Whitver) Hamann. He received his education at Battle Creek-Ida Grove Schools, graduating in 1994.
He enjoyed his family and friends, and especially appreciated keeping in touch using E-mail on his computer. He loved his lighthouse collection and spent many happy hours cruising around town visiting with people.
Survivors include his parents, Donald and Jane Hamann of Battle Creek; a brother, Nicholas Hamann of Battle Creek and his special friend, Lori Wilson; a sister, Kimberly Hamann of Brookings, S.D. and her fiancee Daniel Edsen; paternal grandmother, Cecelia Hamann of Ida Grove; maternal grandmother, Verda Whitver of Ida Grove; and many aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Karen Kluver Irlbeck
Services were Dec. 7, 1999 for Karen Kluver Irlbeck, 48, of Kiron at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Burial was in Crawford heights Memory Gardens in Denison un-der the direction of Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison. She died Dec. 4 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.

Della M. Gerht
Services were Dec. 6, 1999 for Della M. Gerht, 78, of Ida Grove at Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial was in Merle Hay Mausoleum. She died Dec. 3 at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.

Luverne Bumann
Services were Dec. 8, 1999 for Luverne F. Bumann, 75, of Storm Lake at Storm Lake United Methodist Church. Burial was in Holstein Cemetery under the direction of Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
She died Dec. 4 at a Sioux City hospital.

Phyllis VanBuskirk
Services were Dec. 6, 1999 for Phyllis Ann VanBuskirk, 63, of Schaller at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. Burial was in the Schaller Cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otte-man Funeral Home in Schaller.
She died Dec. 2 at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt.
