M.L. "Stub" Gray
Services were March 22, 2000 for M.L. "Stub" Gray, 79, of Sioux City at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. The Rev. Doug Klein officiated with burial in Danbury Catholic Cemetery in Danbury, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 336 of Danbury, under the direction of Larkin Northside Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Mr. Gray died March 17 in Sioux City.

Mr. Gray was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Danbury, the son of Millard and Alma (Iddings) Gray. He was raised in Danbury and graduated from Danbury Public High School in 1936.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 517th Parachute Combat Team, during World War II. His awards and decorations include five Campaign Stars, Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart Medal.

He married M. Denice Fitzpatrick June 30, 1947, in Sioux City. She died in Sioux City in 1991. He was employed as an engineer with Chicago and North Western Railroad for 35 years. He retired in 1981.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, American Legion Post 336 of Danbury, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 580 of Sioux City and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, where he was a former secretary and treasurer. He served on the Woodbury County Conservation Board.

Survivors include Donna Turner of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Frank and Cindy Gray of Sioux City and Bill and Cheryl Gray of Ida Grove; three daughters, Joanne and her husband, Phil Ballard of Lakewood, Colo., Genny Ulven of Fremont, Neb., and Carol and her husband, Dick Ellis of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Angela, Brandon and Sarah Gray, Travis Gray Koenig and Eric, Mark, Ingrid and Evan Ulven; a great-grandson; a brother and his wife, Frank and Venesta Gray of Lincoln, Neb.; and a sister, Nell Jensen of Denver.

A memorial has been established in his name for the Woodbury County Conservation Foundation.

Alice Heezen
Services were March 18, 2000 for Alice Heezen, 86, of Miller, S.D., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller. The Rev. Gary Anderson officiated with burial in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller under the direction of Reck Funeral Home in Miller, S.D.

Mrs. Heezen died March 15 at Hand County Hospital in Miller, S.D.

Elise Berg was born Oct. 15, 1913, south of Watford City, N.D., the daughter of Otto and Anna (Sjkermo) Berg. Her name was later changed to Alice. She learned English after starting school.

She married John Heezen May 14, 1934, at Sidney, Mont. The couple lived most of their married life in south Hand County, near her husband's family. He died in August 1994.

Survivors include four sons, Arthur "Sonny" Heezen of Miller, S.D., Jack Heezen of Ree Heights, S.D., Denny and his wife, Valores Heezen of Wessington Springs, S.D., and Gary and his wife, Kathy Heezen of Highmore, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Betty and Tom Stewart of Ida Grove; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Cessman of Florence, Ore., and Charlotte VanWagner of Aurora, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Baggenstos of Chehalis, Wash.

Alice Seehusen
Services were March 27, 2000 for Alice Seehusen, 86, of Ida Grove, formerly of Battle Creek, at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. The Rev. Ben-jamin Ray officiated with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Seehusen died March 23 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Seehusen was born April 19, 1913, in Mapleton, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Bartels) Tay-lor. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1931.

She married Marvin Seehusen Sept. 1, 1932, in Dakota City, Neb. The couple farmed near Battle Creek for many years. Af-ter his death in 1970, she made her home in Ida Grove. For the past nine years, she was a resi-dent of Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Norman "Keith" and Martha Seehusen of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Joyce and Roger Davis of Ida Grove; two grandchildren and their spouses, Lanette and Mark Nielsen and Ann and Ron Derochie; four great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Floyd and Carol Taylor of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Elsie Carstensen
Services were March 27, 2000 for Elsie Irene Carstensen, 84, of Ida Grove at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Mrs. Carstensen died March 23 at a Sioux City hospital.

Mrs. Carstensen was born Oct. 26, 1915, in Hanover Township, Schleswig, the daughter of Peter W. and Hulda (Brockman) Petersen. She was baptized on Feb. 8, 1916, at her parents' home, and was confirmed in 1928 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.

She married Freddie Schroeder Dec. 19, 1935. He died in 1944.

She married Friedrich Carstensen Feb. 25, 1949, at Schleswig.

She was a member of Im-manuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne and his wife, Carolyn Sch-roeder of Ida Grove, and Jens Cars-tensen of Sioux City; a daugh-ter and her husband, Janice and David Nemitz of Denison; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchil-dren; two brothers, Emil and his wife, Lillie Petersen of Schleswig, and Jurgen Petersen of Denison; a sister-in-law, Inge Carstensen of Ida Grove; and other relatives.

Velma Parrish
Services were March 27, 2000 for Velma D. (Schultz) Parrish, 81, of Correctionville at Grace Lutheran Church in Correctionville. The Rev. Michael Harman officiated with burial at Midway Cemetery in rural Battle Creek under the direction of Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Mrs. Parrish died March 23 at her home.

Mrs. Parrish was born July 18, 1918, in rural Battle Creek, the daughter of William D. and Bertha (Eichhorn) Bottjen. She lived in the Anthon, Battle Creek and Correctionville areas.

She married Edward Schultz in 1938 at Midway. He died in 1975.

She married Elzy Parrish Jan. 29, 1982, at Cherokee. After their marriage, the couple lived in Correctionville. He died in 1998. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Correctionville Nursing Home for 10 years.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, LWML and Card Club.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Earl and Deb Schultz of Sioux City and DuWayne and MaryAnn Schultz of Ceresco, Neb.; three stepsons and their wives, Richard and Carol Parrish of Westfield, Francis and Betty Parrish of Milford, and Doyle and Patty Parrish of Dakota City, Neb.; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Heye of Platts-mouth, Neb.; 16 grandchil-dren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four sis-ters, Evaline Schultz of Battle Creek, Helen Nelson of Correc-tionville, Lavonne Loof of Holstein and Myrtle Han-sen of Remsen; and two broth-ers, Ed Bottjen of Correc-tionville, and Richard Bottjen of Modesto, Calif.

Corrie "CB" Pilcher
Services were March 27, 2000 for Corrie Burdette "CB" Pilcher, 91, of Sioux City at Community Presby-terian Church. Lola Haskins offi-ci-ated with burial in Banner Town-ship Cemetery under the direction of Christy Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Mr. Pilcher died March 30 in Sioux City.

Mr. Pilcher was born Nov. 28, 1908, in Ida Grove, the son of Frank and Nellie (Corrie) Pilcher. At the age of two, he moved to Lawton with his parents. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1926 and continued his education at Iowa State University receiving a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry in 1931.

He married Dorothea Brown June 14, 1936, at Lincoln, Neb. The couple lived in Sioux City for eight years before moving back to the family farm near Lawton. He worked as a farm manager for John Hancock Mutual Life until 1944 when he returned to farming, retiring in 1978. She died in 1967.

He was a member of the school board, FHA Committee, Extension Council and Siouxland Health Council.

Survivors include three daughters, Jane and her husband, David Wirth of Midlund, Mich., Judith and her husband, Kent Frank of Des Moines and Pam Pilcher of Des Moines; a sister, Florence Tool of West Des Moines; and five grandchildren.

Roberta "Bobbi" Ernst
Services were March 22, 2000 for Roberta "Bobbi" Ione Ernest, 87, of Ida Grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Revs. John Schauer, Michael Saylor and Eugene Ernst officiated with burial in Grant Township Cemetery in rural Schleswig under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Ernst died March 19 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Ernst was born Nov. 29, 1912, in Charter Oak, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Lind) Weed. She graduated from Charter Oak Public Schools in 1930 and taught in a one-room schoolhouse east of town.
She married Ray C. Ernst Feb. 8, 1935, at Redeemer Lutheran Morningside Church in Sioux City. In the same year, she was confirmed at Redeemer by Pastor Otten. The couple farmed near Hornick for eight years. In 1943, they moved to their farm south of Ida Grove. They retired from farming in 1975. He died in 1997 and she moved into an apartment in Ida Grove.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove since 1943. She held several offices in the Ladies Aid and was a member of the Anna Circle. She was past president of the Mapleton Zone LWML. For many years she was a member of the Grant Homemakers.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Duane and Ellen Ernst of Ida Grove; two grandsons, Erich of Des Moines and Gregor of Des Plaines, Ill.; and many nephews and nieces.

Dr. Stephen Fymbo
Services were March 17, 2000 for Storm Lake orthodon-tist Dr. Stephen Lloyd Fymbo, 50, at Storm Lake United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ken Bell officiated with burial in Whiting Cemetery in Whiting under the direction of Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Memorial contributions may be made to Storm Lake Area Hospice, the United Methodist Church or to the Storm Lake Lighthouse Gateway Project.
Dr. Fymbo died March 14 at his home in Storm Lake.
Dr. Fymbo was born July 15, 1949, in Sergeant Bluff, the son of Dr. Lloyd H. and Frances M. (Hood) Fymbo. He graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School and attended Iowa State University, University of Iowa and the University of Minnesota.
He married Teysa Tanner June 9, 1984, at Sergeant Bluff. The couple then moved to Storm Lake.
He was an active member of Storm Lake United Methodist Church and held memberships in several professional groups.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dustin Fymbo of Sioux City and Nels Fymbo at home; three sisters, Connie and her husband, Dr. Clement O'Meara of Ankeny, Anne and her husband, Bruce Morrison of Sergeant Bluff and Linda Terry of Greenfield; his parents-in-law, Phyllis and Tom Mitchell of LeMars; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Diane Miller
Services were March 18, 2000 for Diane M. Miller, 54, of Ida Grove at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Gerald M. Fisch officiated with burial in Ida Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Miller died March 13 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 13, 1945, in Dubuque, the daughter of Melvin "Pie" and Rita (Mauer) Hennings Sr. She attended school in Dubuque, Johnston and Cedar Falls, and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1963.
She married Murel Miller Nov. 30, 1963, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. The couple moved to Ida Grove in 1971. She served as a volunteer EMT for several years, and was most recently employed part-time as a certified nurses assistant at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein. She worked full-time on the custodial staff at Battle Creek-Ida Grove High School.
Survivors include her husband; two children, Robin and her husband, Jeff Mason of Holstein, and Steven Miller of Iowa City; her mother, Rita Hennings of Dubuque; three brothers, Ronald Hennings of Dubuque, Melvin "Red" Hennings Jr. of Waterloo and Wayne and his wife, Jeneene Hennings of Dubuque; five sisters, Karyn Gilpatric of Harlan, Sandy Kingery and Joanne and her husband, James Johnson, all of Des Moines, Linda and her husband, Gary Noble of Aplington, and Debbie and her husband, Steve Andariese of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Sharon Miller of Cedar Falls; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ray and Tina Jacobsen of Meridan; and many nieces and nephews.
